There's no substance, just an announcement:
The Times’s coverage of the president’s remarks will include stories, newsletters and videos over the coming days, as well as an episode of The Daily on Friday. A transcript of the interview will be published.
Very bold of Trump to give all that access — and right in the middle of a week packed with quickly unfolding action and with only the full transcript to protect him. I like that the Times is breaking out the material in separate bits.
The first bit is: "We Pressed Trump on His Conclusion About the ICE Shooting. Here’s What He Said. The exchange was a glimpse into the president’s reflexive defense of his federal crackdown on immigration." It could have been a much more reflexive defense of the ICE agents. His first take was balanced: "I want to see nobody get shot. I want to see nobody screaming and trying to run over policemen either." And later, he says: "She behaved horribly. And then she ran him over. She didn’t try to run him over" — I would say that's a reflexive defense of the woman. How does he know she didn't try to run the agent over?
Also, the NYT writes "When we pressed Mr. Trump on his conclusion that the victim, Renee Nicole Good, tried to run over the agent," but technically, the first quote is not a statement that she tried to run anyone over. It's a distanced, abstract statement: "I want to see nobody get shot. I want to see nobody screaming and trying to run over policemen either." I'm not seeing the follow-up question quoted, but I think it shouldn't have been "Why are you concluding that Good tried to run over the agent?" but "Are you saying you've determined that Good tried to run over the agent?" [Or better, to avoid ambiguity: "Are you saying you've determined that Good intended to run over the agent?"]
The second article based on the interview is "Trump Says U.S. Oversight of Venezuela Could Last for Years/In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times on Wednesday, President Trump said 'only time will tell' when it comes to how long the United States aims to control the country" (NYT).
“Only time will tell,” he said, when asked how long the administration will demand direct oversight of the South American nation, with the hovering threat of American military action from an armada just off shore....
“We will rebuild it in a very profitable way,” Mr. Trump said during a nearly two-hour interview. “We’re going to be using oil, and we’re going to be taking oil. We’re getting oil prices down, and we’re going to be giving money to Venezuela, which they desperately need.”...
The president said that as the operation unfolded, he was worried it could end up being a “Jimmy Carter disaster. That destroyed his entire administration.”...
He contrasted the success of the seizure of Mr. Maduro.... “You know you didn’t have a Jimmy Carter crashing helicopters all over the place, that you didn’t have a Biden Afghanistan disaster where they couldn’t do the simplest maneuver,” he said, referring to the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan....
He reiterated that Mr. Maduro’s allies are cooperating with the United States, despite their hostile public statements. “They’re giving us everything that we feel is necessary,” he said. “Don’t forget, they took the oil from us years ago.”ADDED: I'm just reading the comments on the Venezuela article. The top-rated one is from AT of Kankakee:
It's difficult to believe Mr. Trump was as coherent as he sounds in this article.
I think the Times could do Americans - and democracy - a huge favor by releasing the voice recordings or actual transcripts of this interview.
We're staring into an abyss with a monster at the helm. Please curtail the sane-washing. Be patriots and help save democracy.
It's rough when you believe the NYT is out to help the other side, so now you know how Trump supporters usually feel, AT from Kankakee.
And let me just add for the sake of serenity: All along the southbound odyssey/The train pulls out at Kankakee...

Noem and her 2000 new officers were part of a drama play to show Trump is going to stamp out Somali fraud in our state. They travel in packs of 10 to 20, harassing whoever looks weak.
South Minneapolis is full of white liberals, like Madison Wisconsin, which is likely why they all were deployed to stand out there scratching their asses, getting their trucks stuck in the snow on residential streets.
The admin and their backers don't understand questions now will be asked. US citizens in the North have constitutionally protected rights.
An autopsy is being performed as we speak, and leadership has promised a local investigation.
"She ran him over and deserved her death" won't make this go away, as much as ann will try to distract you with a pretty musical song video from her past.
"my quotes of the law " - Ronald J. Ward
As far as I can see, you quoted the law as it would apply to a different set of facts than seem to be on the table here. But I guess it would require you to think for a moment to see that.
For instance, you said "if I’m standing in front of an approaching car with a gun in my hand..."
But that is plainly not what happened, there are two different angles that show that she started the car moving and accelerated rapidly while he was already standing in front of her and she had been ordered to exit the vehicle, she was stopped at the point where she was ordered to exit the vehicle.
This is why I say that you are not very bright. Nothing you say makes any sense given all that we know.
I am betting that Ward only trusts carefully edited video from people who are guaranteed to support Ward's foregone conclusion.
Is there good audio? I've only watched a few videos from different angles and hear screaming and not much else.
@jaq: Chinese oil imports are 11M/day. Venezuela exports are 0.5M/day. Sorry, but WWIII will have to start for some other reason.
Well, it's true that he was standing in front of an approaching car, but when did the car start its approach? Was he standing in front of it then too?
Or is that too much thinking for you.
"Venezuela exports are 0.5M/day. Sorry, but WWIII will have to start for some other reason."
China has the capital and the economic might to greatly enhance Venezuela's oil production. Not going to happen now, that's for sure. Venezuela more oil than the Arabs.
Everybody stops thinking when they find the first fact that supports there cherished POV.
"Iranian protesters rename Tehran street after Trump"
People in multiple countries who know first hand what a real dictator is want Trump instead, so...
As a few commenters above have noted, we know nothing about WHY ICE was there, other than speculation about detaining or arresting an illegal immigrant (who may or may not have been a criminal in other ways). We also do not know WHY there was a crowd there determined to imepede ICE's efforts. How did they know what was happening? How did they know to be THERE at that time? Were they notified by the app that exists to notify folks like Antifa, et.al. as to when and where ICE is operating? If that is/was the case, then Ms. Good was guilty of obstructing a federal officer
ON PURPOSE, and deserving of arrest, if nothing else.
I don't have a cherished point of view. I actually wish the facts were different than what I see. I wish this woman wasn't there breaking multiple laws, or this officer didn't pull the trigger. Either way and nobody would be hurt and the left would not have their martyr.
’Beast @ 9:47, have you actually researched the state’s laws and policies or are you afraid of what it says and could apply?’
You argued the law/policy, Ronnie - you back it up.
"People in multiple countries who know first hand what a real dictator is want Trump instead, so.."
Looks like now that Rubio is in control of that untraceable tax funded USAID slush fund, he is putting it to use funding mobs in Iran. Same as we once funded mobs in Kiev, and as we have funded mobs across the world, then there will be a provocation, and then we will reluctantly be forced to go to war to protect those protesters.
Rinse. Repeat. The Democrats even tried this domestically against Trump in Minneapolis, and it worked. The idea is to create a sense of chaos and violence around your target regime. That's why Hitler sent his brownshirts to create violence at opposition rallies.
About Venezuela... that's yesterday's news. Although Althouse did kindly provide another post to talk about the ICE shooting previously. I'm glad some are trying.
I think related to Venezuela and more current is the two stateless tankers arrested yesterday while flying the flag of Russia.
"ICE agent who opened fire on Renee Good was dragged, hospitalized by illegal migrant driver last year"
Venezuela is part of the post. Funny how that one tanker had several Russian nationals on it, who have been arrested, I understand, and Russia claims it as its own. So how that particular tanker is "stateless" is a mystery to me.
People just lap up propaganda, because it's designed to make them feel good. The facts are always messy, and not nearly so much fun.
"China has the capital and the economic might to greatly enhance Venezuela's oil production."
They could have. But the claim that "China depends heavily on Venezuelan oil", (present tense) isn't true.
"China depends heavily on Venezuelan oil", (present tense) isn't true."
That's true, I don't have an editor, and I make mistakes and you guys helpfully correct them.
Reporting is that the tanker was flagged as Russian only in the last few days. The crew painted a sloppy Russian flag on it.
Disobey order by masked Gestapo and you deserve to die.
Ashley Babbit was peacefully breaking a window to gain access to lawmakers with a violent mob behind her and her portrait should be put on the one dollar bill.

"ICE agent who opened fire on Renee Good was dragged, hospitalized by illegal migrant driver last year"
Yeah, that's an interesting fact, isn't it?
I think the bottom line is these "protesters" are seeking confrontation with ICE. They shouldn't be (and probably aren't) shocked at the consequences.
"Alleged JD Vance home vandal is son of wealthy doctor, Dem donor — who recently changed name to Julia"
News that got skipped - for narrative reasons.
"Reporting is that the tanker was flagged as Russian only in the last few days. The crew painted a sloppy Russian flag on it."
Last couple of weeks. Somehow there were Russian nationals on board. Russia says it's their tanker. Russian citizens have been arrested by the US.
Original Mike said...
"China depends heavily on Venezuelan oil, "
I saw a report recently (wish I could remember where) that Venezuela's share of Chinese imports is just a few percent.
Venezuelan oil isn’t used anywhere. It is usually mixed with other lighter crudes before being sent to refining.
I am certain you could make Venezuelan crude show as much or as little of China’s oil supply as you wanted to.
The point is that the Chinese have been running on discount oil from Venezuela and Russia for years and if you analyze why it all points to actions taken by the US government levying sanctions.
If Joe Biden was a Chinese spy I would challenge you to say what he would have done differently than he did.
The more I think of it, we have been in a five act conflict, not that the stuff that happened prior to WWI wasn't important, but it was prologue, the real conflict started with WWI, continued with WWII, and then the Cold War (Act III) and now we are in the endgame, maybe, where the US goes for all of the marbles, every fucking one. And that struggle is a a wrestling match, where the chokehold is the main weapon of choice. With luck, there will be no nuclear finale.
But right now China is growing in power, and may reach a tipping point, China is the number one trading partner with all of South America, supposedly, and the point is to prevent it from growing any further.
Taiwan? Japan claims that if China gains control of Taiwan, it would be an existential threat to Japan, and China claims that if the West gains control of Taiwan, it is an existential threat to China.
If we continue to let China grown stronger, they will certainly regain control of their province, and our opportunity to "put China in its place" will be lost.
Russia is not a threat to Europe, the main threat from Russia is its value as an ally to China in a hot war. The endgame of this century of war, now, has been an exercise in frog boiling. And the trick will be to keep both Russia and China from hopping out of the pot before they are cooked.
I remember when Inga and PedoFredo said it was not a big deal when Laken Riley died. PedoFredo, in fact suggested shw deserved it. Groomer gadfly and Robert Kook blamed Trump for...reasons.

But we're not there yet. If we were, I'd focus on the second and third shots. (Also: on the way the first shot was not an effective way to stop the car.)
What would you propose as an "effective way to stop the car?" Keeping in mind that the driver has already demonstrated her intent to either injure police officers, escape arrest, or both, and that pointing guns at her and yelling "stop" were not effective means of stopping the car.

@Jaq, The 2nd European 100 Year's War
Interesting factoid: .45 caliber has been a universally adopted cartridge loading in the USA for 125+ years because the primary rational of the ordnance and war departments was that a sidearm must be capable of stopping a horse with one shot.
Since we drive cars now I guess we're just gonna have to start arming officers with RPGs.
I'm willing to accept she was backing out of her driveway and got caught up in the situation.
Uh, no.
This woman, who would have been her neighbor doesn't know her, and points out her active blocking of the street.
""BREAKING: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and AG Keith Ellison were just CRIMINALLY REFERRED to the Department of Justice for investigation and potential prosecution"
Is This the Smoking Gun That Could Land Tim Walz in Prison?
"Mere days ago, Gov. Tim Walz dropped his reelection bid amid the ongoing fraud scandal in his state, but his troubles may have only begun. A damning legislative audit released the following day revealed that his Department of Human Services (DHS) fabricated records, backdated documents, and failed to verify recipients of taxpayer-funded grants worth hundreds of millions of dollars. It not only undermines Walz’s rhetoric about fighting fraud but could also prove to be the smoking gun that leads to criminal charges."
IDK if you can implicate Walz, but it sounds like investigators have evidence of far more than lax oversight of these programs by the Minnesota government.
It appears increasingly clear this woman Steve-Irwin'ed herself.
Sounds like Walz might have other reasons to want federal law enforcement out of his state.
If I’m driving and a person steps in front of my car my first reaction is to hit the brake. It’s an automatic reaction. It’s very simple. She saw the officer right in front of her and her immediate reaction was to hit the accelerator! I’d say that was complete. disregard for another human being. I wouldn’t say that she Intended to run him over, but her automatic reaction was extremely flawed.
Hombre: so if you had been a DC AUSA a few years ago, would you have supported an arrest warrant for Byrd? Would you have ethically and with a straight face presented the case to a grand jury? Would you have tried the case? How would you have dealt with his affirmative defenses, which would probably have been somewhere along the lines of my reasoning?
(and yes, I know no one in the DC DOJ community was ever going to prosecute Byrd, for reasons. But suppose Ashley Babbitt had been the tip of a BLM penetration, coming thru that window with her braids streaming behind? Beautiful black basic-training graduation photos all over the MSM? Funeral with full military honors at Arlington, with SecDef Austin presiding and Al Sharpton giving the eulogy? In other words, the whole establishment pushing for Byrd to get byrnt? [and his race would be no barrier - see Chauvin's biracial partner, the Baltimore paddy-wagon crew, etc] I went on too long, but basically I would like to eliminate the political climate from the Byrd hypo and focus on the facts and law, so reversing the politics is a handy way to do it) - CC, JSM
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final ,most essential command."George Orwell 1984 ,he knew of people like Noem, trump, levitt,Rubio etc.and could see this coming from a mile away.
Well, well, well.
It appears, according to Sec Noem, that this woman was leading a caravan of vehicles trying to disrupt ICE operations. She had been involved for some time that day in the protests. Moreover using vehicles against ICE agents had become a favorite tactic of the protesters across the country, and especially in MN. And the officer who was struck by her car ended up briefly in the hospital as a result, and had done so this summer after having been dragged by a protester.
So, no, the woman was not an innocent bystander who inadvertently got stuck in protest, but was one of the leaders.
With this being the second vehicle attack by protesters on this ICE agent, I am curious whether the agency has switched out their normal SD (hollow point) ammunition for stuff that better penetrates vehicles. The solid cast bear loads I carry in MT are decently expensive. Maybe just ordinary target ammo?
Since we are talking guns - discharging three shots doesn’t sound bad to me. No doubt he was trained to do at least two. I was. It’s called a “double tap”. Triple is two center mass and one to the head. Training, of course, is irrelevant in MN - turns out the technique that officer Chavin used on George Floyd, that supposedly killed him (ignoring his fentanyl OD), turns out to have been taught at the police academy and was SOP with the Minneapolis PD at the time.
“I'm willing to accept she was backing out of her driveway and got caught up in the situation. But while the stories of "what we know" pretend to tell us about her; they don't explain why she was there. Why was this Poet, Wife, and Mother at that location and why was ICE ther?. Who was the third person (the immigrant ICE was there to detain) that nobody wants to mention and where was that person?”
Turns out, she was there to protest, and the protesters were there because ICE was there picking up criminal aliens. She had apparently been there for some time, and was driving the lead vehicle in the protest, in order to box the ICE agents in. This added information is curtesy of HHS Sec Noem.
The Obama Administration, which included Tom Homan, deported more people than the Trump Administration has. With 1/10th the budget and nearly none of the publicity.
You may thrive on this bullshit, Kakistophage, but we're having none of it. Obama's count cannot be considered comparable or trustworthy. These "deportations" were almost entirely people who were turned back at the border. No doubt 95 percent of them crossed a few miles down the road, or crossed another day. Obama deported almost no one from the interior.
Having mastered large language models, epidemiology, narco terrorism, and international alliances, I would like to tell you the difference between scalar quantity (speed) and vector quantity (velocity, direction of car movements). ~ Achilles
I've read so much crap out there today about this shooting. People on both sides of the issue saying completely untrue stuff. Not different opinions, different facts. Humans are ridiculous animals. The relationship to chimpanzees is really evident.
I ask this every now and then and I’ve yet to get a good answer.
How long does it take for people to realize they’re on the wrong side of history?
A follow up: how many on the wrong side ever do realize it?
" Obama deported almost no one from the interior."
Is that supposed to be a good thing?
Of course you kick out the guy coming through your front, but hey, that stranger secretly living in the basement is like family now.
"A follow up: how many on the wrong side ever do realize it?"
I assume you have a mirror, so ask him.
Bruce, I know she wasn't backing out of her drive. However, if that was the story, then I too would have significant concern with what ICE did. Yet while the video was cut to make it look like she was just caught up, no one is saying she was accidentally there. If she's not there accidentally, then discussions of "her intentions" should begin with her intentions to be in the way of ICE. At that point, the "but the ICE agent put himself in front of her car" means a lot less to me than she put her car in the way of the ICE agents.
Jaq (11:30am) on the Marinera, née Bella 1:
"Somehow there were Russian nationals on board. Russia says it's their tanker. Russian citizens have been arrested by the US."
The question is whether Russia can legally claim ownership. It appears that the answer is no. Here's what Maritime Executive (link) has to say about it:
"Being stateless, or acting in a way that gives warships on the high seas a valid basis for treating it as though it were stateless, is a position that any ship would be recommended to avoid if at all possible. A ship that is stateless has by definition no flag state to assert the protective exclusive jurisdiction over it on the high seas.
"UNCLOS also provides that a ship which sails under the flags of two or more States, and swaps them depending on the circumstances, 'may not claim any of the nationalities in question with respect to any other State.' This means it can be regarded legally as stateless.
"Thus, until the change of flag reported on December 31, not just the US but any State was entitled to treat the Marinera/Bella 1 as stateless. This made it vulnerable to interception on the high seas and the exercise of domestic law enforcement jurisdiction over it by the State of the interdicting warship or coastguard vessel."
And here's Wikipedia (no friend of the Trump administration) on the specific vessel seized: "The US had a seizure warrant for Bella 1, which had a history of spoofing its location, was sailing without a valid flag, and did not submit to boarding."
Finally, it's not just the US that is holding a Russian-owned ship and its Russian crew members: Finland seized the small freighter Fitburg and its crew of 14 on New Year's Eve after the ship dragged its anchor for miles, destroying a data cable. I believe they're still holding them. Russian or Russian-owned ships have done that at least half a dozen times over the last few years. It's clearly intentional, and arguably an act of war.
I'd like to know the smoking gun behind the hired killer known at Boelter.
Police have the public right to that assumption that normal people do not, in other words.
Ordinary people also have a perfect right to shoot someone who is accelerating a car towards them with no provocation.
I should note that this is a different situation than what we saw in 2000, when leftist mobs made it a common practice to surround the vehicles of terrified passers-by, and break the windows and beat the occupants. In that case it is the mob who initiated the violence, not the drivers, and if they are run over in self-defense, no criminal liability attaches to the driver.
I assume the WH records all the Prez's interviews themselves. Does anyone know for sure?
“Also, placing oneself in the path of a moving vehicle constitutes officer-created jeopardy and undermines any claim that deadly force was necessary.”
My God, Ward, what a lying heap of filth you are. Anyone who has seen the clips has seen the officer standing still in front of the stationary vehicle with the gun in his holster, right before she floors it. What incredible bad faith and mendacity. You are contemptible.
’How long does it take for people to realize they’re on the wrong side of history?’
The hubris of dullards rises yet again.
So if a protester walks out in the street in front of my car and sits down there to impede me, and I slowly drive my car forward to force him to move, can he shoot me in self-defense?
Self defense requires that you are not committing a crime or instigating the incident so it would be an interesting case. In a state without "Stand your ground" protections the protestor would be required to move out of the way.
I am not saying she did anything wrong. But she did do things that I would expect to be shot for doing.
Achilles point about Babbitt is correct, and also applies to people who throw snowballs at armed law enforcement officers.
And people who use their SUV's to obstruct law enforcement operations.
Yancey & Jaq, my quotes of the law doesn’t mean I’m making a case of this incident, it’s simply quoting the law.
LOL! What a weasel you are!
My first take is that the shooting was justified but it would have been better for everyone if the officer had made a different decision.
As to the dead woman's reasons, it's very possible that she was as propagandized and deluded as the Times commenter that Althouse quoted and was convinced that they were going to shoot her as soon as they approached.
So she panicked, punched it, hit the officer and her fantasy became reality.
Timmy Timmy TimTim is really looking like he is under the gun.
Moron that he is…
"I assume the WH records all the Prez's interviews themselves. Does anyone know for sure?"
Check with Alexander Butterfield.
Babbit should have been restrained, not aborted in a prone position.
I skipped to the bottom so I hope I'm not repeating.... Point of pedantry here.
Obama "deported" millions because he changed the definition. Before, persons "turned away" included anyone who was apprehended within the 100-mile wide border zone [where my late parents lived]. "Deported" then meant those who had gotten further into the country.
Obama wanted at the time to appear like a border tough guy without actually doing anything so presto-chango a person could get caught 1000 yards into the U.S. and be considered a deportee.
I want to know more about what she was doing that day and why. If she was leading a group of protestors who were planning on blocking, harassing and impeding ICE agents - that is very relevant.
Beasts of England said, "The hubris of dullards rises yet again."
It's official...he's a smuggie.
And going back up, I see Jamie covered it better than I did. Oh well. I've got to learn to plow through since the commenters here are so well informed.
most people surrounded by a mob only have their car to protect them. The mob assumes they can harass you into not moving - so the mob can pull you out of the car or smash your windows. (or worse) Panic in the car can cause all sorts of reactions due to survival mode.
(If reports are factual) She was the mob and she wasn't facing a protestor - she was the protestor facing Federal law enforcement.
She made some bad decisions. had she stopped and obeyed orders - she would be alive, under arrest, and probably already back home.
Rabel--she thought it was a game to interfere with ICE (a very exciting and soul-affirming game). She thought that she would play "catch me if you can" and the hapless ICE agents, at whose expense she had been carrying on the game, wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Of course, she thought, "What are they going to do, shoot me?"
That's my take.
That this woman has a young child at home makes her behavior even more disgusting.
Milwaukie guy, no harm no foul. You are good to give your opinion. Hearing more voices that come to the same conclusion is a good thing.
Bruce @ 12:20 said; “ It appears, according to Sec Noem, that this woman was leading a caravan of vehicles trying to disrupt ICE operations.”
Again, I’m not arguing the guilt or innocence of anyone but only the most gullible of the goobers, only the most indoctrinated, I mean, you’d have to scrape the bottom of the rabbit hole to find someone who’d make a conclusion based on “according to Sec Noem”.
Trump's "She didn't try to run her over" was presumably in the Yoda sense of "There is no try."
"...who’d make a conclusion based on “according to Sec Noem”.
If we only had the likes of "The border is closed" Mayorkas. You know, the guy who actually caused this nationwide mess in the first place.
Yeah, that's an interesting fact, isn't it?
If it is a fact. Just because Peachy asserts something and puts it in quote marks does not mean it is a "fact".
As far as I know the identity of the agent has not been revealed, and of course he was wearing a mask, no badge and no name tag or indication of rank or unit. Yet we are supposed to believe he was hit by an illegal immigrant last year. How fucking gullible are you?
Freder - If it's in the record - are you still going to deny it?
why yes.
Best to rely on MSNBC and reddit for your answers. Dear leftists.
btw- if it turns out this woman was innocent and not an anti-ICE harasser - I'm all ears.
I remember when Inga and PedoFredo said it was not a big deal when Laken Riley died. PedoFredo, in fact suggested shw deserved it.
Fuck you! I never even commented on Laken Riley. Show me the post where I suggested any such thing.
And fuck you for calling me a pedo. How old are you? 12? Isn't your middle school's Christmas Break over? I bet your mom will be pissed when she finds out.
Freder - If it's in the record - are you still going to deny it?
You provided no link or even where the quote came from. You make shit up or believe internet rumors and republish them all the time and I don't think you have ever provided any proof of your assertions.
You are either stupid or full of shit. Provide me a link with the agent's name and a report of the original incident and I will apologize. But I know I don't have to worry about that.
’…this woman was leading a caravan of vehicles trying to disrupt ICE operations.’
That was also recorded in an eyewitness statement. I guess MSNBC (or whatever it’s called now - MSNow?) failed to share that with their audience.
I heard the 82nd Airborne is outside of Minnesota…
If she had done the smart thing and simply been arrested, I'm sure Judge Steinbergman would have acquitted her with damages. Now her only judge will be God.
President Trump is backing ICE to the hilt, and Timmy Walz will be lucky to merely get black bagged like Maduro. Much easier to have him shot.
One thing about people taking to the streets, they’re back, and Trump’s back. The four year pause was nice while it lasted.
I didn't read everything to see if someone else mentioned this, but here's how I interpret this on first read:
" "She behaved horribly. And then she ran him over. She didn’t try to run him over" — I would say that's a reflexive defense of the woman. How does he know she didn't try to run the agent over?"
I think he meant she didn't *merely* try to run him over, she actually succeeded and did run him over.

Sounds like a bold plan, Cotton. lol
I think he meant she didn't *merely* try to run him over, she actually succeeded and did run him over.
That is simply untrue. He was not "run over" under any reasonable meaning of the term. She might have grazed him or bumped into him, but he didn't even fall down and walked away after he shot her.
90% of comments are opinion. Facts are obvious. She intentionally drove forward. Her car made contact at one point. He shot through the windshield. Then he fired twice more through open drivers window from close range.
They both f'd up. But she created the situation.
My opinion is, although legal, was not necessary to kill her.
The second and third shots while he was out of harms way were unfortunate.
Would rather see some of the brick throwers suffer consequences.

The New York Post is not a reliable source. And they are withholding his name? Until I have a name, it is bullshit as far as I am concerned. And if it was the same agent, he apparently didn't learn his lesson the first time.
Leftist sites are not reliable, Freder. Everyone knows.

Trump created the situation. And I suspect it will get much worse.

I'm not a Rubio fan, but there is a certain logic to what Rubio is doing. e.g. you have to work with the opposition you have, not the opposition you want. A full-blown regime decapitation would almost certainly kick off a civil war that will potentially destabilize "friendly" regimes in the region. It would also require a substantial commitment of U.S. military forces on the ground in order to provide any kind of security/legitimacy to our hand-picked successor government. Odds are we would be creating a scenario more along the lines of our puppet governments in Vietnam or Iraq with control of some major urban areas, but no control outside these areas. A full blown ground invasion would also probably lose the population. It's easy to see how things might slide along an escalation ladder too in a conflict that has almost no public support inside the U.S. and would likely become politically toxic inside the U.S.
Any kind of future operation to install a leader more pliable to U.S.-business interests would also benefit greatly from re-opening the U.S. embassy and an attempt to co-opt the political opposition and create more fissures. I think this is more the medium term Rubio strategy.
Almost certainly they will attempt to assassinate Cabellos at some point. The question is whether they can keep the lid on top of the country at that point and co-opt the fragments of state security to a sufficient degree. My guess is probably "no", but I really don't know. As far as the junior levels of gangs and officers are concerned, after 20+ years, how many of these remain ideologically committed anti-imperialists, and how many are just opportunistic gangsters who can be persuaded to change sides? However, I would never underestimate the Trump administration's ability to do something monumentally stupid.
The info from the D-side of the media is all "Mom says she was a nice person."
OK.
Fox 9 local MN:
"Ice officer identified
The Ice officer who fatally shot Good has been identified as Jonathan Ross. The Dept of Homeland Security confirmed to FOX 9 Minnesota that the officer who fire his weapon on Wednesday is the same officer who was dragged 50 yards by a suspect in a vehicle back in June.
The man who dragged Ross was indicted on one count of assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous or deadly weapon, and a federal jury found him guilty in December 2025. "
Ron Ward- you're not even trying. Biden and Myorkas broke the law when they allowed millions of illegals to enter our nation - illegally.
Leftist sites are not reliable, Freder. Everyone knows.
Even if "everyone knows" this (which of course is a nonsensical statement), what does it have to do with whether or not the NY Post is reliable?
’Trump created the situation. And I suspect it will get much worse.’
Biden created this situation, and it may get much worse. Especially for the Dems in November. Enjoy the wilderness.
How about - stop interfering with and harassing Immigration and customs Federal Agents. You want to stand there with a sign? - fine. As others have stated - this is not a game.
“ Leftist sites are not reliable, Freder. Everyone knows.”
Cultist talk. It’s part of the “isolation” process of the cult phenomenon. It’s been going on for years in selective ways.
Freder - the NY Post is fine. It's you.
"Biden created this situation"
Yep.
Biden created a masked Gestapo which kidnaps people and deports them to random nations, with no due process and then he shot a lady.
Yes, MAGAts are totally rational and reasonable about the facts.

Beast says; “Biden created this situation, and it may get much worse. Especially for the Dems in November. Enjoy the wilderness.”
Biden isn’t president.
November? My favorite argument. I don’t think people outside of the rabbit hole care much for the chaos. Going after the “worse of the worse” is becoming less obvious, boots in Venezuela to go for the oil isn’t going to help, they’ll still be hiding the Epstein files while providing a daily shitshow distraction, the ugly in the ugly bill will be front and center, those historic midterm blues, and say it with me a-f-f-o-r-d-a-b-l-l-I-ty.
I don’t think so.

Howard said, "The Colt 1911 was designed to stop crazed Moro Warriors in the Philippines who would tie off their extremities so they wouldn't bleed out and could absorb several shots from a 38 without slowing down"
Not .45ACP Howard...45 'caliber' in general. The caliber goes back further than Browning to pre-Civil War times when .44 (actually .45 caliber if measured in the lands, not the grooves) was standard for cap-and-ball revolvers. The requirement to "stop a horse" was specific to the .45 Long Colt the 'peacemaker'.
During and prior to the Spanish-American War and before the invention of hollow-point ammunition, a big heavy slug making a large hole was paramount.
If you want to feel deeply disillusioned, read the comments on the New York Post's Facebook page about the shooting of the woman.
The standout comment was: “The stay-at-home mom should have stayed home.”
That remark echoes many of the sentiments expressed by the regular commenters on Althouse's blog.
It leaves me thinking we'll never fully remove the stain that Trump and his sycophants have left on America.
I keep seeing the 82 airborne comments, but I do want to note it appears 160th SOAR was involved in the Venezuela operation and the arrest of the two tankers, one in the North Atlantic between Iceland and UK.

Stopped frames of the videos indicate that the murdered lady did not aim her car at the shooter. She backed up to be able get around the car blocking her and by the time she turned her wheels to go forward and around the blocker, the shooter had drawn his gun and before the car swung forward and right, he had aimed and shot her through the front window only to continue to shoot an aimed second shot through her lowered window point blank. Her wheels were locked in their rightward aim. He was never in any danger of being run over because he was several feet to the right - but she was always was because of two screaming ICE agents who attacked the vehicle immediately after arriving on scene, despite the fact that a female ICE officer was already beside the car. Agent one attemped to enter the vehicle which caused a panic and agent two was always going to fire his weapon. Jonathan Ross, the same officer who was dragged and injured by a fleeing driver in a separate incident last year was the shooter.
Minnesota police are forbidden to take either action when a substantial number of people could be endangered. But the real problem is that Federal prosecuters will not indict the shooter. Previous shootings by ICE have never been sent to trial despite laws that permit the action.
So it is time to make public the ICE body cams which most likely were not turned on - unless the female officer was obeying the law. Three children lost their mom for no logical reason, a fact that displays the lack of training for ICE agents who cover their faces just like the Nazi brownshirts did.

Wtf? No European street fighting units of any side - black, brown, red, chartreuse - ever covered their faces. The whole point of units like the SA or their commie opponents was to take to the streets proudly, to show that this was the way their country was inevitably going. But in the 30s there wasn't a camera every three feet and facial-recognition software to match every face to a name.
Your BLM/Antifa blackshirts wore and continue to wear masks so they don't lose their phoney-baloney jobs.

LOL. Yeah, you can stop the video at various points and see, "in this frame, she wasn't aiming the car, in fact she was in reverse". The problem is the other frames show her striking the ICE agent with her vehicle and her behind the wheel.
What we don't see in any of the shooting videos is why she was there? Eyewitnesses claim she put her vehicle in the way of ICE, so the argument that ICE got in her way is pointless when it seems she wanted to get ICE's way. She has no legal authority to interfere with federal authorities. And I think there is an argument to be made that she was aiding a fugitive from justice.

Everybody, including you, has seen the three videos. She was attempting to flee an officer who had ordered her to exit her vehicle. You know that and intentionally lie, hoping to inflame the situation.
People like you are partially responsible for these volatile situations.

There’s another component of becoming a cult- convince the Gullibles of an outside threat, a perceived enemy, someone or something out to destroy them.
I mentioned earlier of “isolation”. Hitler accomplished it by commandeering public radio. Jim Jones kept his cult isolated from the outside world in his camps. Trump convinced his only to listen to propaganda outlets and dismiss others as fake.
On the enemy, Hitler convinced the Jews were the culprit, Jones that the government couldn’t be trusted, and Trump had his “deep state”, the corrupt Democrats, and even echoed Hitler’s “enemy of the people”.
All 3 by the way held a 3rd component as they were all charismatic.
This is why so many here can find no wrong with their Mango God, regardless of how hideous his actions or policies are.
Hag: "Yes, John bootlicker Mosby, proclaiming that Black Lives Matter is the moral equivilance of killing 8 million Jews, gypsies, gays and commies."
All the violent extremists gave their movements uncontroversial names. Who can say there's anything wrong with National Socialist German Workers? Or the Workers and Peasants Party? Or Black Lives Matter? All just meant to distract the casual observer from the really dirty stuff those movements were doing.

I reluctantly voted for Trump, because as I have repeatedly said before, I believe that all politicians are corrupt, Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, capitalist or socialist.
They are all in it for gaining power, money, and fame. So a pox on all of them. I just vote for the lesser of two evils. So I voted for Trump. But things are getting out of control in MAGA land. They are now branding any American citizen they want to kill as a domestic terrorist, even if they are just driving their van away from a protest. I spent 20 years as a criminal prosecutor, and I have watched all of the videos from all of the angles multiple times, and if I were still a prosecutor I would charge the ICE agent with at least involuntary manslaughter, if not something more. He was in no imminent danger when he shot and killed her. No jury would say this was self defense. None of the ICE agents have had training as Certified Peace Officers. They are rogue partisans hired with bonuses to do the bidding of the Trump administration, even if it entails killing innocent American civilians. If MAGA doesn't stop this, they are begging for a civil war. Which may be what they wanted all along.

It's a sad thing when a LEO shoots and kills a civilian.

Will leftists and illegals stop their campaigns of direct interference with ICE activities? I put the likelihood of that at 0%.

It’s interesting that today I’d still vote for Reagan and his policies. And I imagine almost all MAGA voters would, as well. How many Dems would vote for Clinton and his policies today? Very few, I’m guessing, as his signed legislation would be labeled as right wing extremism. The left has truly become untethered.
And fuck you, pussy, for calling me a threat to democracy. You’ve lost your pitiful mind, little boy…

I really don’t know or remember enough about Nixon to say with certainty, although 49 states thought he was okay. Would you vote for Clinton’s policies?
And none of my supported policies are out of the mainstream of politics for my entire life. So, please, specify which of my advocated policies you think are headed down the wrong path. I am genuinely curious. Although I am soon headed out for a cocktail or three, so it’ll be later before I can read your reply. And I am literally shaking with anticipation!! ;)
It is strange to me that Stephen Miller has decided to leave the crooks in charge in Caracas. The daily beatings have increased and the petrol side has no buyers anymore. Oil freighters are now being used to store crude. The VP was not elected by the people, so the opposition, headed by Venezuelan opposition leader MarÃa Corina Machado, actually won the last election. She has said her coalition should "absolutely" be in charge as the country's election winner in 2025 when she also won the Nobel Peace Prize for attempting to install a democratic government.
Perhaps on another thread Beast. But yes, policy and legislation are key and I’m certainly up for that discussion.
RJW: "But Beast, would you still vote for Nixon?"
Not trying to answer for Beast, but riffing on his thing about today's Dems not voting for Clinton: I think today's Dems, in a blind policy taste test, would love Nixon:
Wage and Price Controls: Yeah, man! Fat checks and low prices for the people!
Defending a far-away country from a Russian ally, but doing it fast so we can get the hell out of there: Yaaas, queen! Russia evil!
Reaching out to China for peace: Of course! What are you, some kind of racist?
Establishing the EPA: Must save planet!
Spying on dangerous seditionists: Like the Trumptards, right? Oh yes, By Any Means Necessary!
Universal Basic Income: Oh yes! Not my fault I don't have a job. Do I still get an Obamaphone, or do I have to pay for it out of this? Will the amount reflect that?
Healthcare reform: That's right! Get those damn insurers!
School desegregation: Um, yeah, I think so. Do I have to desegregate, or is it optional? I mean I've been doing all these bake sales for my neighborhood school....

Let’s pause the incessant Hindsight Instant Replay momentarily.
The officer is not a mind-reader: he can only make a split-second judgement on her intentions.
What can he know about her intentions at the relevant moment?
• An officer has been given lawful orders on what he is to do — legally apprehend a criminal;
• A civilian has decided that she can righteously obstruct this, and by doing so is committing a crime;
• The civilian refuses legal orders to stop and desist;
• the civilian sets her car in motion.
A lot of people are saying that, no, she didn’t intend to run into the officer, she was attempting to flee.
Using those very same powers of omniscient insight, I have determined that the officer looked into her eyes and, in a moment of intense and brilliant clarity, he saw deep into her diseased soul and recognized hatred, zeal and chaotic threat.
And, from above, God saw the angry lesbian who wrote…
“i’ve donated bibles to thrift stores
(mashed them in plastic trash bags with an acidic himalayan salt lamp—
the post-baptism bibles, the ones plucked from street corners from the meaty hands of zealots, the
dumbed-down, easy-to-read, parasitic kind)”
… and let the ruling on the field stand.
John, I think this actually proves the opposite point you’re aiming for.
Democrats can acknowledge that Nixon supported or enacted policies we’d still favor while also saying we wouldn’t vote for Nixon, because conduct, legality, and abuse of power matter.
Liking a policy outcome isn’t the same as endorsing a leader who spied on political opponents, sabotaged peace talks, and resigned to avoid impeachment.
That distinction—separating policy from personal loyalty—is precisely what’s missing in today’s politics.
History lets us say: “Good policy, wrong man.” Cults don’t allow that kind of separation.
"just driving their van away from a protest."
Protesting and actively interfering with police are not the same thing.
Oh Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie:
"conduct, legality, and abuse of power matter." Really? I guess your lot eventually forced Biden out, but I think the motivation was to keep the grift and oppression going.
"endorsing a leader who spied on political opponents, sabotaged peace talks, and resigned to avoid impeachment." - yeah, that's our Biden!
"History lets us say: “Good policy, wrong man.” Cults don’t allow that kind of separation." - But MAGA does. Lots of redhats don't really approve of Trump on a personal level. I would have liked us to see a real VN combat infantryman in the Oval at some point, but it's not going to happen. But when we say good policy/wrong man, we vote for the policy, because you go to an election with the leader you have. CC, JSM
The video is out. He was struck with a deadly weapon.
☝️is that the front end of a Honda Pilot? Doesn’t look like one to me, but I could be wrong.☝️
I'm not sure why the left is so upset about this.
This is what they wanted. This is what they've been pushing for. They should be celebrating they finally got their bloody shirt to wave around and blame Trump.
The first shot through the windshield as she was coming toward him seems justified. He had to make a split-second decision. He didn't have the liberty of looking frame by frame at a video, or trying to figure out if her wheels were turning away from him.
The second and third shots through the passenger window are more questionable. The only justification I can see is that he thought she was a danger to others (again in a split-second decision). More likely he just overreacted.
I'd be open to at least an investigation, if not prosecution, on those last two shots, just as soon as Michael Byrd is prosecuted for shooting unarmed Ashli Babbitt in the back.
JM, not quite. The difference is evidence and accountability.
Nixon’s abuses weren’t opinions — they were established by bipartisan investigations, sworn testimony, court rulings, and ultimately his own resignation.
If Biden had done any of what you’re alleging, I wouldn’t defend him — and neither would most Democrats. That’s not hypothetical; we’ve already pushed our own leaders out when they crossed ethical or political lines.
Saying “we vote for the policy, not the man” only works if the man is still bound by law. When supporters excuse or minimize illegal acts because they help their side, that’s no longer policy-first nor is it America first— that’s loyalty-first.
History allows “good policy, wrong man.” It does not allow “wrong man, but we’ll ignore it.” That’s where the line is.
Ronald Reagan once said that the scariest sentence in the English language was “I’m from the government and I am here to help you.” This laugh line was meant to destabilize the basic social contract between a government and its people around social services and safety nets. The Trump administration has turned this neoliberal chuckle into a Orwellian nightmare: “I’m from the government and I’m here to harm you.” And then, if that wasn’t enough, attempt to convince you that the harm isn’t real.
If MAGA doesn't stop this, they are begging for a civil war. Which may be what they wanted all along.
Oh, go fuck yourself. If we wanted a civil war, we'd already be in one.
It's the left - and sniveling simps like you - who keep pushing it.
’Perhaps on another thread Beast. But yes, policy and legislation are key and I’m certainly up for that discussion.’
Fair enough, Ronald. Time for the semi-finals…
Put your big boy pants on, kak. Stop the whining.
And if it was the same agent, he apparently didn't learn his lesson the first time.
I can't believe he said this out loud. (And also that no one has called it out before now.)
Democrats can acknowledge that Nixon supported or enacted policies we’d still favor while also saying we wouldn’t vote for Nixon, because conduct, legality, and abuse of power matter.
And this, from the party of "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," "Turns out I'm really good at killing people," and just about everything "Biden" ever "did," beggars belief.
Info coming out this women was trained to harass ICE agents?
Primo - need more info. That video is short and hard to see.
James K: "The second and third shots through the passenger window are more questionable. "
Many commenters have mentioned that cops are trained to shoot until the threat stops, and that all police range courses of fire consists of multi-shot strings each time. e.g. "first stage of fire - from the holster - 3 rounds, 8 seconds."
Unfortunately, unlike the targets on the range, people keep moving after you have made the decision to shoot them, while you are squeezing the trigger, and even while the bullet is flying to them. So the ICE guy could have had a nice clean head-on sight picture and squeezed the trigger three times out of muscle memory - during which time the car moved away.
Does any of that (if true - notice I had a bunch of weasel words supra) make it a bad shoot? No. It makes it a real-world shoot. CC, JSM
Also, and this is not a legal issue, but a policy one: you know how back in the 70s, Archie Bunker and Clint Eastwood types would complain about bad guys getting off on a technicality? Well the only thing worse than that is good guys getting convicted on a technicality. At some point justice is more important than input-output legal calculus. And from a strategic perspective, we can't let the lawbreakers attrit the law enforcers with stuff like this. All reasons for the pardon power and the Supremacy Clause. CC, JSM
Beast @ 7:24, yes and by all means, I’m up for that challenge. I don’t follow every thread and I don’t always read every response to long winded threads that don’t appeal to me but sure, just call me out. Let’s see what we’ve got.
LAPD Sergeant Stacey Koon and his guys were convicted for the final 3 or 4 baton blows on Rodney King. GHWB just let the legal process play out. Is that the kind of law enforcement climate we want? CC, JSM
For all of his foibles and negatives, Trump truly is the Man in the Arena.
After observing events since Butler PA, I'm currently sticking with my original assessment. What we are seeing is the BEST CASE SCENARIO downstream of the policies of the Obama and Biden administrations. With the LEAST possible amount of violence and social turmoil.

Is Jonathan Ross a jew?
I have no insight into what she intended to do. But the result of her voluntary actions resulted in her trying to run him over. If you are resisting arrest, and the results of your actions result in putting one of the officers in danger, then you are quite likely to get hurt or killed. Sorry, I have watched the video. The officer was crossing in front of the vehicle from passenger side to driver's side, and she floored it while he was in front of the vehicle. It sure looks like a deliberate attempt at vehicular homicide.
