NYC Mayor Mamdani's Tenant Director, Cea Weaver:

"I think the reality is that for centuries we really treated property as an individualized good and not a collective good and..."
"... in transitioning into treating it as a collective good and towards the model of shared equity will require that we think about it differently, and it will mean that families — especially white families, but some POC families as well — are going to have a different relationship to property than the one that we currently have.”
See also "Zohran Mamdani’s new NYC tenant advocate called to ‘seize private property,’ blasted home ownership as ‘white supremacy’" (NY Post). Excerpt: "Cea Weaver, Mamdani’s new director of the city Office to Protect Tenants, made the statements and urged her followers to elect more communists in several lecturing posts on her now-deleted X account that were unearthed by internet sleuths. 'Seize private property!' she said on June 13, 2018.... 'Private property including any kind of ESPECIALLY homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy,' she said [in August 2019]."

To think that this came even before the collective insanity of the 2020 Summer of Floyd.
The Joker in the pack is that we are now in the Age of Abundance prophesied by Musk, Andreessen, Diamandis and Kurzweil. So, the morons still arguing that it’s a zero sum pie are being left behind by the new paradigm. As Musk says, everybody will be wealthy. Everybody will have whatever they want. Tech will be determinative, not ideology.
Who could have guessed that the "warmth" of collectivism meant throwing the work of a lifetime, the deed to your home, on a bonfire.
I saw this at Instapundit...how anyone could ever take someone that talks like that seriously is way beyond me.
Communists drawn to tyrannical policies like flies to stinking piles of merde.
I am glad that nobody will have to drag his ass to work every morning laying bricks, and still all will be able to live in lovely brick homes! This is like the total pendulum swing of the 2008 crisis, where it was the fund managers who said "why didn't anybody think of this before?"
At least Musk has a remotely plausible way to accomplish it, through his humanoid robots, who could presumably lay the bricks. At least Musk has an idea that hasn't been tried before.
Well...this person got her B.A. in Growth and Structure of Cities at Bryn Mawr College in 2010 and an M.A. in Urban Planning from New York University.
Apparently no where in those curricula were they required to study any history or economics. A simple summay of the 20th century in the Soviet Union could have rid her of these sophomoric notions. What is it with leftists and their clamoring for other people's stuff?
And what is it with urban planners and their insistence that everyone live in dense, high level cities, owning little or no property, and living in small units, piled on top of each other? How did this become the thing?
Most people in America past the age of 26 want nothing of the sort.
Anyway- New Yorkers are going to be getting it, good and hard. These people Mamdani is surrounding himself with are comical stereotypes of Marxist young people- even though they are no longer young people (which makes it all the more pathetic).
New Yorkers in general are leftist. But I suspect many of them didn't realize how bad it can get when you let it get too far left. Let them swim in their own crap. When they've had enough, they'll let us know.
Even the Russians are making fun of him.
Drive a full self-driving Tesla, and you’ll begin to understand where we are headed.
""I think the reality is that for centuries we really treated property as an individualized good and not a collective good and..."
Let me complete this for him, "and those were some pretty good centuries for the progress of mankind, except for a couple of exceptions where this principle was abandoned for a while."
They make it sound like slavery, for example, was a product of capitalism when slavery pre-dates all written history, since it is taken for granted in the earliest documents that we have, and only came to an end under capitalism.
Look at this woman’s face. She’s a demon driven mad by gender ideology. Her face is featureless and dull.No makeup. Deliberate ugliness. A completely psychotic demon.
1. The property owners will have to receive just compensation.
2. She can’t just seize the property of Whites.
3. She’s a communist.
I'll have to go talk to the black homeowners down the street about their white supremacy.
Leftist doublespeak is so entertaining. Unless of course you are living under their reign of terror. Then it is decidedly no bueno. Gooder and harder NYC, gooder and harder.
Much as I admire Musk he still retains an optimism about human nature that creates a fatal flaw in his utopian vision, likely a leftover feature from his many years supporting so-called democrats. There is no path to the future that doesn’t involve the majority of people earning a living by the sweat of their brow. Man has a need to work, to create in order to grow and thrive. The BS “no need to work” prediction is belied by every society that has existed in world history.
Paraphrasing Musk: What we once thought were social problems are actually engineering problems.
Arguing ideology and politics on this site is not going to determined the future economy. Tech will. The intellectual notion that essay wars and political debate are determinative is a rearguard action based solely on intellectual vanity. It excites you and gives you a feeling of being in a contest, but it’s utter bullshit.
The result of eight years of "you didn't build that".
The DSA didn't take over the Democrats, the rest of them just dropped the mask.
She now has a position of power and influence. That's really scary. She looks civilized in a vapid, ineffectual way, but there's a good chance she will wreak havoc........Robespierre entered public life by winning an essay contest where argued for the abolition of capital punishment. When he achieved full power. he demanded the execution of all those in the assembly who had opposed the death penalty to Louis XVI......She's the kind of bigot who considers her bigotry the highest form of morality.
American Exceptionalism is based on our Constitutional Republic’s foundation of Rights granted by God that government has a duty to protect. Every other government is based on old fashioned spoils system or envy. The woman in this post is certain that envy will overcome New Yorker’s natural tendency to be free. And it can, briefly, but the problem with other people’s property is the finite resources at issue. Because envy doesn’t build new things: things simply change hands.
Sounds like a prescription for success. Chase all the white people out of New York.
I think Chavez actually won the first few elections. That didn't work out well......When at long last will people realize that private property is a human right and perhaps the most basic and fundamental human right.
Tech won’t change the eternal truths of Human Nature. Builders like Musk will always be targets of the Envy Cult like this woman who creates nothing but strife. There’s a very good reason her ideology only flourishes in shithole countries or advanced dictatorships.
It's going to be weird, watching NYC burn to the ground.
If Musk is banking on AI, he must have knowledge of some AI that nobody has seen publicly. I have used AI a lot, and it is very useful, but you have to be on your toes because it makes all kinds of logical errors, and you have to point them out to it to get past them. It also has a difficulty making leaps between narrow problem domains (I think that this is why they want larger and larger training networks, to overcome this) but for now, you have to provide those leaps.
AI will never learn logic, it will have to be supplemented by logic engines the same way that it refers to calculators, rather than its training, when you ask it a question requiring a numerical answer. That sounds fine and dandy, but how does it determine when it has encountered a problem with logic?
The whole use of the term "suspect" in AI generated news stories is a logic failure. Are we. just going to put in a patch for that word, or are we going to fix the underlying logic shortcoming?
I don't think we are that close. But maybe specialized domain AIs can do things like make bricks, and others can build houses, so maybe it's possible. But AGI? Not sure it's ever going to happen.
What Shouting Thomas said at 6:12am.
"watching NYC burn to the ground."
The warmth of collectivism!
When the early Christians were living off the sale of their individual properties, and living communally, financed collectively, they became very poor. They needed Paul to make collections from the Gentiles to help keep them going. Their "shared equity" had apparently dwindled to barely subsistence levels. There are no successful models from communism.
She’s a piece of work. Someone needs to take all of her possessions post haste. See if she changes her mind.
Paul himself was a rugged individualist who was proud that he had always earned his living with his own hands. Although he did accept some help from other congregations in furtherance of his amazing evangelizing journeys.
Isn't feudalism essentislly treating property as a collective good? Twain noted on occasion his strong dislike of Walter Scott and his renewal of themes that excited southern aristocrats into trying to mimic feudal conditions thus deepening slavery as a cultural pursuit
--- the new paradigm. As Musk says, everybody will be wealthy. Everybody will have whatever they want. Tech will be determinative, not ideology.
ST, please save your comment and look at it again in two, three, and four years. This is the talk made possible by a major peak in the financial cycle. MSFT and much other tech has already turned lower. TSLA has a triple top that usually means trouble. We are probably not living in a permanently new higher level of economics, but more likely an extraordinary bubble enabled by the Federal Reserve and the endless spending of future tax revenues due from younger generations. If they agree to those terms.

Indicating a trend, she perfected the "AOC eye-roll" contemporaneous with the latter's arrival on the political scene.
You know, the eye-roll that says, "hey, look at me while I pause to draw upon my vast reservoir of knowledge that was inculcated in me by my 'back-up" college's most left-wing professors."
Recent decades I have seen increase in housing projects built and run by NGOs. NGOs obscure increasing portion of housing controlled by government; also add level of organizational bloat and opportunity for grift.
Recent decades, quality of tenants has markedly decreased; fewer stable families, more uncommitted couples or single mothers with mixed bag of kids.
And - gratuitous torture of language; the euphemism "affordable" housing.
John Galt is getting out of the housing market.
Anecdote. RV park in our small South Texas town, 300 rental spots, occupant owned "mobile home" or RV, mix of local retired residents and retired "winter Texans."
Changed ownership 6 years ago. Over next 4 years converted to fleet of park owned housing units (probably surplus FEMA trailers). Motorized wheel chairs and golf carts out; tricycles and kiddy bicycles in.

Private property isn't a right. You aren't born with it.
You earn the right to private property by killing or exiling all of the socialists and communists.

that would self proclaim their Marxism..
no, wait; that's Not Weird..
what's Wierd is that Americans would support them.
No WAIT! what's Really wierd is that the Governor of New York would proclaim that she was bathing the new Trade Center building in green lights to show "the superiority if Islam over the cursed infidels"
private property is a human right
If it isn’t, wait until the collective has control of her body. In her ideal society, that day will come soon.

The irony is Cea Weaver's salary will allow her to buy a nice upper-middle income home anywhere in the booming Southeast before Mamdani's regime collapses under the weight of lawsuits and court injunctions sometime late next year. Weaver will be fired in a cost-cutting move as the NYC taxbase shrivels like a french--fried orange. My crystal ball foresees substantial real estate investments in Ms. Weaver's future.
Democatic socialist, communist, collectivist, current day Democrats are evil. Every legal means must be employed to stop evil.
No one ever taught her about “the tragedy of the commons.” She will learn about it the hard way.
In the end Mamdani will blame her for not doing Democratic Socialism the right way, and she will blame the kulaks, er, white supremacists. Especially the black and brown-skinned white supremacists.
Oh, and the Jews. Of course she’ll blame the Jews.
See dr zhivago kulaks
The US Supreme Court agrees with Mamdani. Stealing private property is legal in the United States.
Go read Kelo v. City of New London
Yep. True communism is about to not have been tried yet again.
If any of this is shocking to you, where the hell have you been for the last 50 years.
The 'perfect society' types are the intellectual heirs of Lenin and the rest. It always ends in misery and death.
Oh, and you ain't voting your way out of this.
What could go wrong?
Oh yea of little faith. These extremists have to overcome our incredible system of checks and balances in order to achieve their lofty goals. Testing the limits of the envelope of the system is engineering 101. What they perceive as the extremist Trump, they see his success in expanding the Overton window and now believe that they have the capability of expanding the Overton window and their direction.
No reason to get hysterical. But I get it, the creep Factor vibes of that crazy cat lady or off the charts. She reminds me of an environmental regulator I had to deal with for almost 20 years in Santa Rosa.
There are certain sections of New York, Cea, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade
So none of these people have heard of "The Tragedy of the Commons" or the past 100 years of the outcome of these kinds of policies.

9sigh) Dave, Dave , Dave you naive midwesterner. Because she's a communist those other things don't matter. She has the courts to back her up. It's NY. If the landlords complain they get the gulag. With any luck they'll get a double ration of black bread.
More like the opening scene in q's star chamber
First Mamdani. Now Maduro. Can New York City handle this much communism in one city? Will Mamdani be able to keep hold over his socialist New York fanbase when International socialist star Maduro announces his arrival to the city?
Property rights are taught on the first day of microeconomics for good reason- civilization disintegrates without. Confiscation is game over, not a beginning. Like kids with a stolen credit card the new guys have fun for a little while then everyone is murdered or starves to death…

Once he arrived in NYC I bet Maduro breathed a huge sigh of relief.
she looks white to me.
She needs to give up all her property - first. set the example.
all dedicated cultist white leftists need to give away their property.

Jamie Dimon’s JPMorganChase just moved into a new $3 billion world headquarters in Manhattan. I wonder how he feels today about that multi-billion bet on NYC
It's unlikely these creeps and goons will be able to realize much of their utopian fantasy bullshit, but they'll try. Knowing that your neighbors voted for this is one more step on the road to a zero-trust society.
Turning "white" into just another competing tribe isn't going to work out too well for them I think.
They lust for POWER! They know that socialism, communism, collectivism always bring tremendous poverty and suffering. But the "democratic socialists" don"t care about human suffering. They are the smartest people and have the highest moral judgement. So the collective leadership will decide.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, Make us your slaves, but feed us. Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Grand Inquisitor.

New York is full of people born outside the United States.
They were imported here to elect international socialists.
Democrats took money from Americans and is giving it to these illegal immigrants to vote for international socialists.
The people on this board that want New York City to burn are cowards that want to surrender US territory to foreign invaders.

No. Our government imported most of Mamdani's voters.
This is a foreign invasion.

All your stuff are belong to us.

So what happens if Maduro gets off. Do we need to reinstall him by force upon the Venezuelan people. You know leftists will say yes. Sometimes they can be very black and white about an issue.
Yeah we dont much care what they think
Some people who voted for Mamdani expected this crap, and some didn't. I can't decide which group is dumb and which is dumber.
They probably have space in the NYC Metropolitan Correctional Center where he can hang out.
I vote that we take all her stuff.
The inconvenient truth spoken by a genuine communist. Let the property seizures begin.
Who's going to take care of them hogs?
No matter how much you hated or feared Mandami, you could not have imagined or invented this woman -- uptalking, eye-rolling, fidgety.
Exposed bra strap under a t-shirt certainly doesn't telegraph professionalism or executive competency.
Oh wait. New NYC administration can't insist upon experience and credentials, because its own mayor lacks both. Only LGBTQX social justice warriors need apply, vocal fry helpful, slothful appearance desired.
Maybe Mamdani will prevail upon NYC swat team cops to rescue kidnap victims Maduro and his wife.
She doesn't have intelligent eyes. I'm thinking AI could estimate IQ from a picture of the eyes.
Watching conservatives get all het up about Mamdani is a bit like watching Tipper Gore in hysterics over her daughter's Prince album. Sure, kids shouldn't have access to songs about nymphos masturbating in a hotel lobby, but all you're doing is making Prince (or in this case, Mamdani) more cool.
I'd suggest two strategies: Firstly wait until Mamdani actually does something bad. And secondly, point out that communism, like Darling Nikki, just isn't a very good song.
Maybe we should nuke Bryn Mawr just to be safe.
New York will become the city Comrade Bob always wanted it to be.
White people gonna be slaves! White people gonna be slaves!
One problem with this madness in NYC is that it cannot stay in NYC because the same fools who voted it in will have to migrate somewhere new after the destruction of NYC is completed. The second problem is a somewhat trite truism that goes "you can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out," and the shooting may start a lot sooner than the new commissars expect.
"Democratic socialism" cannot exist in a free society because the population must be forced into the warm embrace of collectivism, and the collective jackboots must remain firmly placed on the necks of the citizenry to keep them there. Specifically, the "democratic" modifier on the term "democratic socialism" is a cruel fantasy. Consequently, the commissars' first order of business is to outlaw private property so that the populace has nothing to fight for; the second must be disarming the populace so that they have nothing with which to fight. The disarming has already partly occurred in NY state in the form of draconian, unconstitutional gun control laws so comrades Zohran and Cea are already a step ahead on the socialist timeline and apparently feel comfortable in proceeding to the confiscation phase. The Democrat Party's designation of NYC as a sanctuary city also helps to smooth the transition via the importation of hordes of uneducated third world migrants who do not necessarily understand why the US capitalist system is so important to the standard of living that attracted them in the first place. They will likely find out after it's too late.
All in all, Mamdani is as much of a threat to US security as was Maduro, and I fear he will eventually have to be dealt with in a similar fashion. God help us all, but just in case He's not paying attention it would be prudent for US property owners everywhere to increase the size of their armories. I already have.
When I start adding up the things that Wokies decry as white supremacist it begins to sound like a good idea. (Remember, calling COVID 19 “kung flu” is racist, while believing that actual Asian students should be admitted to schools based on merit is white supremacist.)
Seize private property - didn't that Maduro fellow do just that?
Well said, jaydub.
“So what happens if Maduro gets off. Do we need to reinstall him by force upon the Venezuelan people. You know leftists will say yes. Sometimes they can be very black and white about an issue.”
They can insist all they want. It’s another 80/20 issue to make them look even sillier. About the only place he can go is Russia, and join the former First Family of Syria. That’s where the Grand Ayatollah running Iran is planning to flee, with all his wives and children if/when he is deposed. The difference is that Maduro appears to have skimmed off a lot more money than either of these other two worthies.
I think a more likely scenario is a reformed Venezuela requests his extradiction, and we grant it. The 92 year old Carter era judge who has the case with scream and moan, but will be told that it’s well above his pay grade (and is i
n the strongest portion of a President’s Article II power)
Given that Mamdani's "free subways" immediately became a fare increase, maybe we don't need to be too concerned.
72pt Oy.
80/20 issues didn't help NYC avoid this stupidity. Native New Yorkers had the numbers to override any newcomers. The 80% need to get off their asses and vote. Now they will pay for their lazy apathy.
Elinor Ostrom, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Economics, challenged the inevitability of the "tragedy of the commons." She argued that communities can successfully self-govern shared resources like fisheries or forests through local rules, monitoring and sanctions. This is a third way beyond privatization or state control.
This woman is going to be popular again.
I get the feeling that American "socialists" just want to consume the wealth that capitalism creates.
"Given that Mamdani's "free subways" immediately became a fare increase, maybe we don't need to be too concerned."
I don't expect much from the same people who thought Biden was sharp as a tack, and Harris would make a good President.
"I get the feeling that American "socialists" just want to consume the wealth that capitalism creates."
They aren't gonna make their own.
Wow...this is a bold move, Cotton. Something this bad, this early, makes me think Mamdani not lasting his first term is actually on the table.

Bitch, bitch, bitch.
Only about 32% of NYC residents own their home and that's heavily weighted to Staten Island where home ownership is higher than the 65% national rate at 69% and Queens with a rate of 44%. Bronx is 18%, Brooklyn 28% and Manhattan 25%. Less than 2% of Manhattan housing stock and less than 5% of Brooklyn's is single family homes. They already have a different relationship to private property than the country with most people renting or owning coops or condos.
About 30% of the housing in NYC is 2 to 4 unit housing which is largely middle class owners who rent out part of their home.
80/20 issues didn't help NYC avoid this stupidity. Native New Yorkers had the numbers to override any newcomers. The 80% need to get off their asses and vote. Now they will pay for their lazy apathy.
I think a lot of NYers think that the city will survive just fine under almost any leadership. That's why the vote turnout was so light.
Does that reflect arrogance? Yes. If you can't be arrogant in NYC where can you be arrogant?
It’s NYC. They are stupid. Let it burn
Oh, great. Another AWFL.
Just proof that not all redheads are hot.
Going around and seizing people's property is a good way to get shot.
"She argued that communities can successfully self-govern shared resources like fisheries or forests through local rules, monitoring and sanctions."
The guy from Top Gear left the car gig and bought a farm, and a Lamborghini tractor, of course, and makes a show, and most of the drama comes from his fights with the local council, who are constantly throwing obstacles in the way of him seeing a profit, arbitrarily reclassifying buildings, changing rules. It''s very instructive, and maybe the "Nobel Prize winning economist" should give it a watch.

Why? He can ask for a jury trial, and walk out the courthouse steps an ovation and a shower of flowers after his acquittal, irregardless of the evidence!
I threw that 'irregardless" in to make Cook happy. Hay, it spellchecks!
Of course Letitia James is part of the nomenklatura so I imagine Cea won't be hastening over to Big Tish's home to explain her new relationship to all her (former) rental properties and the income therefrom, but I'd love to see it happen. Don't see ZoBoy explaining to his parents how their NYC condo suddenly turned into immigrant housing, either. Some animals are just more equal than others.
I could be mistaken in this, but didn't New Yorkers freely adopt ranked-choice voting (ie, intitutionalized fraud)? The rule is that vampires have no power over you unless you invite them in...and r-c-v is the vampire of the electoral system, so they get zero sympathy from me.
I am really looking forward to all the misery Mamdani’s Mayorship is going to bring to NYC and New Yorkers. I am going to LMAO every time he and his thugs makes things worse for the complete fucking morons who voted for him, or who didn't vote at all
