I'm reading "After Renee Good Killing, Derisive Term for White Women Spreads on the Far Right/Vocal Trump supporters are demonizing Renee Good, her partner and their allies, with some even using an acronym: AWFUL, or Affluent White Female Urban Liberal" by Clyde McGrady.
I hadn't seen this term, and I read all sorts of things every day, so that makes me think this term isn't really a thing... though I've certainly noticed that people of the right are passing around a lot of videos of highly emotional left-wing white women.
But then I asked Meade, and he had heard the term and it seems to be catching on.
Needless to say, I don't like the term. I don't like expressions of contempt and I don't like commentators trading on the idea that women are over-emotional. I also don't like freaking out and yelling in public (or at home), but you can say just that, without contributing to sex-based hatred.
Despite that NYT headline, McGrady's column isn't really about the term AWFUL. It's more about the phenomenon of going after activist liberal white women:

So, there are things like that. But, interestingly, Trump himself is not going after women:

I have seen the AWFL word used extensively and I only look at Althouse, Instapundit, Lileks and people I follow on X who are mostly people referenced on those sites.

Women are becoming the backbone of the anti-ICE protests and are assuming that they can do anything they want without repercussions.
I've seen it pointed out that a tenet of chivalry was that men did not harm women and women did not use that tenet to harass men. If a man acted like some of these women to another man, he would start a fight. Knowing this, men avoid these self escalating confrontations. These women are depending on the tenet to protect them without understanding the need for self restraint. Hence, AWFLs cross boundaries that men will not cross.
What is contemptuous and what isn't? Was there ever politics without disparagement of the other side? Looking back on the Michelle Goldberg article from the other day, one of the points that was made by commenters here is that AWF(U)L doesn't refer to all women or all white women but to a subgroup that's primarily defined not by race or gender but by behavior. Does being female make them above reproach?
How does noting that women may be emotional differ from noting that men may be violent? And "AWFUL" doesn't say that women are over-emotional. You can be affluent, white, female, urban, and liberal and still be as cold as ice.
I'll bet if our Blog Hostess searched her comments covering the past several years, the term AWFL would appear hundreds of times. AWFUL, not so much. AWFLs are not necessarily Urban. They are suburban too. Rural, rarely.

It does seem possible that the female and male slices of life predispose women and men toward different political opinions. It also seems possible that ubiquitous social media has accelerated the process and hardened the resulting opinions.

AWFUL's are definitely a thing that has been around for at least several years. I strongly disagree with your dislike based on the term being a characterization of "all women" - by its very terms, it refers to a discreet group of rich, liberal white women who insert themselves into every leftist cause in this country, seemingly in search of something to fill a void in their lives. There are plenty of rich white liberal women who do not do this, and the term therefore does not apply to them. There certainly seems to be, however, a surplus of women in this country for whom the term applies quite aptly.

ICE operates as a federal agency that works with local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws.
In most states they go to the courthouse or to the local county jail and pick up illegals.
In Minnesota they go to houses to pick up illegals because the State of Minnesota lets criminals out of jail.
People who support welfare fraud and illegal immigration call them Gestapo because they are stupid and they only say what their masters feed them.

Then people were saying that she was an AWFL as if to say: "Well, you knew one of them was going to get shot." But Rebecca was much more of an AWFL than Renee in the clips I saw. Is WEIRD any better? "Western, educated, industrialized, rich, democratic"? I think it's pretty similar in that each individual word is semantically neutral, but the intent of the acronym is to cause offense. (The difference is that with AWFL, the people using the acronym don't apply it to themselves but intend to offend the targets, whereas with WEIRD, those using the acronym do apply it to themselves and use it in self-flagellation. But either way, the intent is to offend.)

I think people are overlooking one of the major factors in the radicalization of women.
Women go to college FAR more than men these days. Title IX was passed when the "problem" of female underrepresentation in college was far lower than male underrepresentation in college is.
Colleges are nothing more than radicalization centers these days. It is why most people have seen girls who were nice and kind going to college coming home as raving lunatics.
I'd also argue that a lot of these bored women view all of this as just a game. They do not seem to realize what the world REALLY is like. Good's wife crying about the police having "real bullets" is telling there. She seemed to think the police would only use non-lethal munitions which is simply not reality. Women seldom have to deal with the consequences of actions (which is why women feel free to hit men with little provocation, knowing men cannot really hit them back without significant blowback), so they feel free to be, well, insanely obnoxious.
Dudes know where the line is, roughly, before a guy will knock the crap out of him. Some women, hate to say it, might need some harsh lessons on the real world and that their female privilege is not all-encompassing.
