So what was the "lesson in embarrassment and humiliation"? I see at least 2: 1. Be more skeptical next time so you're not embarrassed and humiliated again, and 2. Don't cry out about the deceptions and manipulations of the past because you'll only advertise you are an untrustworthy dupe.
Those are not completely incompatible messages. Those who were embarrassed and humiliated could keep quiet about their own past mistakes — being too gullible and deferential to seeming authority — but also resolve not to repeat the mistake.

All those people who tested positive but had no symptoms? Type 1 error (false positive) from the test. Large population, rare disease (not that rare) and the false positives completely overwhelm the actual cases. Often doctors don't order the test until there are symptoms to avoid the problem.
Total scam. Massive testing often multiple times for the same people? I think it was deliberate disinformation.

Yes Duty, and even other flu viruses could trigger the test for COVID. It was a well executed scam, I admit. What I cannot determine with available evidence is if they expected the virus to be as deadly as they said and it simply wasn't or if they knew it was just a cold/flu variant with a less than 1% fatality rate but hyped it anyway.
The "bad" tests tend to support the latter. I'm rooting for that theory because I don't want to believe they really were expecting 5/1000 fatality rate (0.5%), which would have justified some of the cautionary moves, if it had been a truly "novel" virus like they said it was. It is in fact just a bad cold and far less deadly than the Spanish Flu of 2018-2019 or even Hong Kong flu of 1968-1969 that had a fatality rate very close to 0.5%.

However, the ‘experts’ can’t admit they were wrong or risk ever being taken seriously again. They destroyed their credibility and there’s very little they can do to ever regain it. Those at the top of the expert pyramid need to be purged from their positions of authority and perhaps punished legally. As Thomas Sowell pointed out, it’s disastrous to be ruled by people who pay no penalty for being wrong.

1. First clause - unequivocally true. Second clause, the "why" - I'm still not sure. The other obvious possibility is that they were not about to let that crisis go to waste, and saw it as an opportunity further to condition the public to do what they're told - maybe at first because, just as with a giant meteor strike, we know that another Black Death is waiting in the wings, and we need to be prepared.
It's occurred to me that when we all (you know, many of us, myself included) went along so readily with the early requests, "they," almost in disbelief, kept adding things and making them requirements just to see how far they could take it. Taking down Trump might not have been the initial intent, just a potential side benefit - but if my musing were to be correct, it would have been a necessary step by the end.
2. Again, first part unequivocally true, but the "and to allow the cabal" part remains an open question for me - at least until the summer. I absolutely think that cabal was working toward Trump's political and personal, if not actually fatal, demise from 2016 onward - but I'm not sure they hit on using COVID as part of the strategy until the Summer of [spit] Love.
3. Most things they (the bureaucracy and the Democrats) have done - absolutely. Nancy Pelosi's weird advice to go hug a Chinaman? Please - that could ONLY have been to hurt Trump. But the beginnings of COVID response on the part of the Science - I'm still willing to believe their intentions were good.

The 'shame' isn't the problem. The problem is, the shame is kept private, but isn't internalized toward self-improvement, situational awareness. It's kept private to avoid the future inevitable confrontations where proof is demanded, or one is forced to show their reasoning. All of that was jettisoned during COVID, and 'Muh Authoritah' was trotted out instead.
If there's no shame, then there is no outrage allowed, and with no outrage, no reckoning. We have been relentlessly conditioned to accept what we're told, and it really shows. I think at the beginning they were legitimately scared. This was brand new, apparently very infectious, and possibly deadly. The Chinese didn't help.

I think that part of it was inertia. They had determined that putting everyone on ventilators was the way to go, and we didn’t have near enough of them. Turns out that venting people killed many of them. But by that point they had everyone in a major panic. Well, just vax everyone. Power to the politicians and esp the bureaucrats. Has China admitted it? No, they have not. But facts and logic both point heavily in that direction and the various fact-finding bodies, including congress, agree: the evidence is overwhelming that COVID originated in a Chinese biolab.
As for demanding proof, the wet market theory had no facts whatsoever supporting it. It was spin.
There was. C. L. Moore novels from the '40s called Vintage Season, the crux* of which was a truly terrible, Black Death-plus-level global pandemic. Government response to it, ultimately, was firebombing their own people, block by block, to try to destroy the virus and stop its deadly progress. I gather it was very popular and acclaimed when it came out.

Most of those people with positive results did not actually have COVID after all. Can't wait to hear more about this as it unfolds.
We heard that the test was unreliable at the time, but they used it anyway because there was nothing better. I'm still jarred when I think back to my reactions in real time during this societal madness event. I couldn't understand people's reactions. The desperate scrambles for toilet paper, shelves ripped bare, people grabbing it off the pallets as they were wheeled out from the back. Meat displays emptied. It was, and still is, a sobering reminder that society is a useful thing, a benefit to mankind - but, not to be trusted or depended upon without clear eyes.

1) The Kung Flu shot is a real "vaccine" but only because they changed the legal definition of the word vaccine. Prior to August 2020, a vaccine was defined as creating immunity. The MRNA did not do that. In 2020 the definition was changed to "creates and immune response" It did not need to actually cause immunity, only an immune response.
Normal vaccines create immunity by causing an immune response. Creating an immune response does not necessarily cause immunity. As is the case with mrna.

Kirn, who never heard a sound more mellifluous than his own voice, it seems, but who either has an insight or draws a conclusion that surprises me often enough that I keep listening to him yammer on, thinks that the whole point is to insert a particular narrative (or many particular narratives) believed by elitists* into the minds of the non-elite classes, so that the elitists can have their way with society. What they didn't get into was whether they all meet in an underground lair somewhere or what - basically how they decide which narrative(s) to privilege and forward.
No groundbreaking insight there. The interesting part to me was that he apparently doesn't see the "get Trump" effort as a goal in itself so much as a consequence of or tactic in the effort to control the minds of the lowly; Trump, who cannot reasonably be accused of not thinking and speaking for himself, is an avatar of the masses and therefore needs to be put definitively in his place.

Would it be more or less beneficial in the event of a future pandemic for them to apologize for their errors, or more correctly for their doubling down on their early errors of ignorance once they - and we! - knew more? I think that's what the debate is here.
I think it is at least possible that the COVID vaccine may reduce severity of infection though of course there's no definitive way to prove that that I've heard. So why would I fault people in vulnerable groups for continuing to get boosted? It's up to them, now. We who are not virologists have to believe some research is valid. One benefit of having Trump in office is that he's put skeptics - skeptics who were punished for their mere skepticism but have been shown to be correct in whole or in part - in positions to challenge the Scientific Consensus (which should not be a thing, at least not in the way it's been used). If the skeptics keep bringing more and more information to light, how is that bad?
The only lesson the left seems to have learned is that they need better messaging and more censorship of counter-messaging. Whether they were right or wrong and whether they will be right or wrong next time don't seem to matter at all.

First of all: We didn't believe a bit of the Covid Hoax. The government lies all the time.
1. We are fortunate to live in a rural area. Most of the people in area also ignored the whole thing. Other than being forced to wear a mask when we went for medical appointments where there are legit sick people.... and in some stores that made it mandatory....we ignored that too. Costco wouldn't let us in without a mask. So..what..wear the mask then drop it around your neck until you need to check out.
3. Our local doctor would prescribe Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine until the clinic stopped him. So..we went to the local Farm Supply and bought some of the "horse paste" if we felt we needed it.
I did a sort of "cost benefit analysis", as I would do when advising clients on what investment strategies to take. Weighed the risks of becoming infection against the probability of that happening.
1.) We are in a low density population area.
2.) Self employed and our work outdoors and is not around people. (Domestic and agricultural wells) Plus our work is essential with no one else nearby to do it. Want water for you or your livestock.... who ya gonna call?? Us.
3.) Don't normally go to big public functions or crowded areas. The 6ft rule in stores locally is a joke. If we have more than 10 people in a store at a time it is amazing.
4.) Never had a flu shot in our lives and never had the flu.
5.) Local mom & pop restaurants didn't enforce masks. That rule is stupid anyway. Walk into the building with a mask...take it off for the time you are eating....then put it on to walk out. /facepalm
I had two major surgeries during that time and the hospital didn't require a Covid shot and I had told them I wasn't getting one anyway. They did the test on me and my husband when he wanted to visit me in the hospital. QTip into the brain.. always negative

The sequencing of the key furin cleavage site, with its improbable coding sequence, sealed it as close to 100% as to unreasonable to even further argue the point- the viruse emerged from the institute and it was engineered in the lab. Of course, since that point in 2020, we have learned that U.S. researchers literally proposed exactly these changes to coronaviruses in the labs and sought funding for it from the U.S. government and we know these same researchers were collaborating with scientists at Wuhan on similar work. Fauci knew all of this which is why he took early steps to squash the theory- he knew he was culpable in it even if, perhaps, he didn't know exactly what kind of research was being funded there.

I thought what Kirn was getting at, is that the 'elite' are not overly concerned with the peasant class, in their mind, because they can be mostly persuaded to follow instructions - go off to fight wars, obey fads, behave predictably, for instance.
What the 'elite' are really worried about, according to Kirn, are the middle classes, coming to the realization that their betters are really just self-involved hollow people that feel entitled to use others, if for no other reason than to preserve their preferred spots at the top of the social hierarchy. The middle classes are educated enough, sophisticated enough, and independent enough to see through the flim-flam. They can defer gratification. I got the two original Covid shots and three boosters. I never got Covid. My daughter got a Covid booster and got the Omicron Covid a week later. I was with a different daughter for hours one day and the next day she texted she had symptoms and tested positive for Covid. I didn’t catch Covid from her.

Actually it does. That is why OSHA has rules about how long you can wear a mask in the workplace.
A n-95 mask, without the vent, as recommended, traps exhaled breath. You wind up breathing about 4% CO2 vs 0.04% ambient and correspondingly less oxygen
Doing so for extended periods rots the brain and makes one silly. (See, for example the people who wore n-95 masks religiously)

And unless every news outlet on earth coordinated a global CGI project, we all saw the same things: parking garages turned into makeshift ERs, nurses wearing trash bags, freezer trucks lining hospital lots as temporary morgues, families in India searching for firewood to cremate loved ones.
That didn’t come from “hysteria.” That came from a real virus hitting an unprepared system.
Meanwhile, look who came out on top: billionaires doubled and tripled their wealth during the pandemic.

As soon as the word "pangolin" was used, I know the zoonotic thing was bullshit, because it was obvious that somebody thought it would be a great distracting element: "Hey! Nobody in the US is going to know what a pangolin is, and they'll accept an exotic virus from an exotic animal." They had to lead with "bat" because that's what Covid was engineered from.

Finally, the "Wet Market" was a deliberately bad translation for the Chinese SEAFOOD MARKET at Wuhan. Yes, the character can also mean "wet," but the implication in context is food that comes from animals that live in water, whereas "Wet Market" in English has a creepy, exotic feel.
(Also, one of my former students is from Wuhan, knew the market in question, and told me they didn't sell ANYTHING there BUT seafood).
When there's this much obvious bullshit and manipulation, and you add in the Furin cleavage site in the genome having an amino acid sequence that have never been found in bats, but IS an exact match of the one used for recombinant research in humans, well, you don't even need to add in the matches between gene sequences and restriction enzymes used in editing to know that the virus that killed millions of people both directly and through the disruptions it was used as an excuse for was created in that laboratory in Wuhan.
And the reason this was covered up so totally is that for this one time the interests of the two most powerful countries in the world, the U.S. and China, were totally aligned because both were violating the biological weapons research ban in one of the most obvious "too clever by half" harebrained schemes that national intelligences agencies come up with ("We'll pay them to do dangerous biowarfare research IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY and our people will snag all the results." I actually did my own research and sampled numerous sources and the sources that said this was a lab generated virus with DNA that could not be naturally formed were much more convincing than your hero "Dr." Fauci.
