"Ziz became increasingly disillusioned and began trying to assemble 'a cabal' of 'abnormally intrinsically good people' and turn them into..."

"... 'Gervais-sociopaths' who would, like those at the top of the organizational hierarchy in 'The Office,' the sitcom co-written by Ricky Gervais, be ruthless in achieving their goals. She referred to herself as 'Darth Ziz, interim de facto leader of the vegan Sith,' a reference to a Star Wars sect that uses the dark side of the Force. In 2019, Ziz and four friends were arrested after staging a protest at a Rationalist gathering, where they accused two of the movement’s key institutions of betraying their mission to protect humanity from A.I. and of covering up pedophilia and sexual abuse.... Some Rationalists denounced the Zizians as dangerous, noting among other things that two people who had engaged with their 'mental tech,' including a method of trying to put half of their brains to sleep at a time, had killed themselves. But others in the community were sympathetic.... [Ophelia] Bauckholt was in the latter camp.... She frequently discussed the Zizians, but as far as Dr. Kolomatskaia knew, the subject was little more than a conjectural pastime. 'We’re like, "The Zizians are dropping like flies. Why don’t we prevent them from dying?"' she recalled. 'It’s a curiosity. It’s a very fun thing to talk about every week.'"

From "Ophelia Disappeared: A Wall Street Analyst and a Deadly Shootout/The group was passionately vegan, mostly transgender and highly educated. Seven of them are now in jail. This is the story of one who did not survive" (NYT). I'd give you a gift link, but I've already done 2 gift links today, and the Times only gives me 10 per month. So you're on your own, extrapolating the story or finding your own way in.

Bisexual? Intellectual. And transsocial.

RCOCEAN II చెప్పారు...

Are the "She's" really she or males who became transgendered females?

I look forward to this discussion! The Based Camp couple talk about the Zizians but I've been cobbling together a picture by inference.

One of my inferences: there seem to be significant comorbidities on the far left. Veganism, transgenderism, not sure whether to go with New Atheism or New Age (where, o where is Crack?) but in any event a religion-substitute that leans heavily on how the individual feels, communism or socialism, elitism...

Simulants? Amending, carving, chemical castration, and intellectual lobotomies are tres chic in the modern family.

I thought at first it had something to do with Slavoj Zizek.

What a relief. That guy's a complete wackjob.

Here is the article.

I didn't read the article. It's good we have the internet. How would people like this have ever found each other before the internet. They would have spent lonely lives, thinking that they were the only vegan Siths in their neighborhood.

Is "Ziz" a movement or a new trans-pronoun?

They're 'rationalists', they say, and the NYT seems inclined as always to play along, but I have a question: Why is it these rationalists steadfastly refuse to define their sexuality? It's a methodical, intentional effort to render it completely ambiguous, so that the reader doesn't know if this creature started as a male, started as a female, what. They're violent, psychopathic phonies who approximate their sex and pretend to games about gender. Psychos in a death cult - That's what they are.

Wow. Where to start? If you were in any doubt that cognitively gifted people are quite capable of horrible life destroying decisions, this article will put those doubts to rest. But what are we supposed to do with these characters? I hate putting people in cages, but it's hard to see a better plan.

This is a perfect example of toxic masculinity under the female guise.

"Highly educated". Educated to the point of imbecility.

A comment I made in a previous post:

"The world will always be a troubling place.

To successfully navigate this complicated world in a time-efficient manner, I group people by their actions into one of three categories in which they seem to best fit along:

• the folks of Mayberry
• the Mafia
• cannibal head-hunters.

I then proceed from there.

Feel free to apply this in regard to this discussion."

This post is a nice example of why "cannibal head-hunters" is part of the choices.

I am Laslo.

Ricky Gervais in "The Office" was ruthless in achieving his goals? No, I guess that refers to a minor character in the US version of the series. It's weird and misleading to name a form of sociopathy after Ricky.

Put this story together with the last one and you've got a science fiction novel. Or maybe a ballad or comic song about "Vivian the Zizian."

That was a very confusing story.

That reads like a post-mortem on a bunch of lunatics.

They're "highly educated". Of course. That's why they're insane.

This sounds like an excerpt from some dystopian sci-fi novella or short story.
