I'm reading "Louvre Museum Robbery: Priceless crown of Empress Eugénie with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds found broken in Paris" (Economic Times). Here in America, on the same day, we were disparaging royalty at our "No Kings" rallies. Many of the home-made signs relied on crown iconography....
So how do we feel about royalty these days? If you accept your little daughter in a getup like this....
... is it like letting your little son sport a swastika armband?

Good luck getting little girls to forgo princess outfits!
Curse you, Althouse, for starting the No Princesses movement!
The left would love to have a queen, which is why they sought to install Kamala without a vote
Remember, the left isn't against kings or dictator, they only oppose being ruled by a non-leftist.
No thrones? Remove all the port-o-potties - stat.
Rather stunning gap in security. Sadly, everyone should think like an assassin, an antifa-thug leftist or a thief- if you want to cover all the bases to stay safe and unmolested.
Mrs. Maynard and I are flying to Paris tomorrow morning and staying across the street from the Louvre. I read that they closed it for security reasons. Not good.
I loved visiting France in the past, but the French have become a pain in the ass when it comes to their bureaucracy.
They make it purposefully difficult for Americans to make arrangements, such as museum passes. Mrs. Maynard spent hours finding a work around because their computer system asked for your country, but the US was not listed.
C'est la vie!
Maybe, to be sure there are no kings, we could get everyone in the country to elect a ruler, maybe for a limited period of time, after which they can decide how he did and then have a new election to pick who will rule them. You know, and maybe then respect the results and wait until next time...
"Here in America, on the same day, we were disparaging royalty at our "No Kings" rallies."
Sure. That's what "we" were doing.
Why do leftists always do this business-organized ineffectual protesting? I'm not even sure what specifically this 'no kings' thing is. I'm sure they all thought Game of Thrones was pretty cool, though.
The left loves royalty. They just hate Trump (and anyone else that opposes their agenda). In fact, the overseas part of the Democratic Party changed the name of the protest from “No Kings” to “No Tyrants” “so as to not to mix messages in a country with a monarchy.”
Amy Farrah Fowler with a tiara is about as funny as funny can get.
Even though their Mom and Dad are in the doghouse, Beatrice and Eugenie still get to be princesses.
On the other hand, if you accept your teenage son in a getup like this....
So they literally found the French crown in a gutter. CC, JSM
The French are letting wogs steal their whole country. What’s a few jewels? CC, JSM
If you want to understand what the Progressive Left really likes, you just have to consider their actions, as a group, over the past 2 decades or so. They hit on the idea of announcing they don't like 'Kings' recently, although I'm sure plenty are scratching their head over what that is supposed to mean, in the context of a duly elected President in a representative republic. Trump is neither regal nor authoritarian. He's been working completely within the law, it's just that he's enforcing laws that the Progressive Left would prefer to remain unenforced, or even actively flouted, as they themselves have been doing.
No. The Progressive Left doesn't want Kings, and they don't really want Democracy, either - since their last Presidential candidate was put into place by an unnamed committee, with no vote whatsoever. What they really want is license to do whatever they damn well please, whenever they damn well want to. It might included democratic procedures, when it benefits them, or at least the appearance of them. It might include anarchy, mayhem, murder, riots and looting, too. It's completely their call - and if you object, you'll be the target of group wrath, you'll become a projection screen onto which they'll call out everything they're doing themselves.
It might included democratic procedures, when it benefits them, or at least the appearance of them.
I think they often say "democracy" when they mean "consensus." "Consensus" implies "everyone is on the same page, or at least those who disagree aren't saying so."
That Great Feminization essay someone referenced on Substack last night seems relevant.
"No Kings" brings out silver pony tails on SSRIs and wine. "Trump is Hitler" brings out purple half-shaves on SSRIs and meth.
Where were George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon at the time of the robbery?
"Many of the home-made signs relied on crown iconography ...." But then none of the signs you display after that intro are, in fact, "home-made." They are all obviously professionally printed, with some impressive art-work at the planning end. Leading to the conclusion that this "grass-roots" movement is in fact nothing of the sort. It is typical leftie astro-turf, with millions of dollars undergirding the somewhat underwhelming turnout. They'll get loving write-ups from their left-wing media supporters, but really, is that the best they can do?
You drop one priceless, crown...
I think they often say "democracy" when they mean "consensus."
Democracy means sometimes not getting your way.
I haven't found a single photo or painting of Eugénie de Montijo wearing that crown. This woman loved bling. Most women love enormously costly and useless things, but Napoleon III's wifey loved shit like that to a degree that would have embarrassed Liz Taylor. Since she evidently never posed wearing it, I'm inclined to think it was ordered but still incomplete when the Second Empire fell in 1870. Haven't looked, but that's my inkling. She ended as a tragic figure, madly mourning her only child's death at the hands of the Zulu for nearly forty years.
What repulsed me were the displays of the hammer and sickle at the demonstrations yesterday.
“I think they often say "democracy" when they mean "consensus." "Consensus" implies "everyone is on the same page, or at least those who disagree aren't saying so."

They aren’t looking for consensus. Look at how many issues they take 30-20% side.
They value subjugation and submission.
So where was the antifa -led violence yesterday as promised by MAGA? Esp in towns like Madison which is about as left-wing as it gets. No one seems able to answer this question. I guess they all stayed home to watch football.

Gotta keep the base stirred up and interested, otherwise they might find something else to focus their attention on.
Princesses are the perfect example of the kind of "rulers" the Left want (with a nod to Aggie) - quiet figureheads devoid of any real authority manipulated by largely unseen handlers. Kinda like Joe Biden.
The closest thing to a "king" that we presently have in this country are single individuals - Schumer, Pelosi, etc. - who I (and 95% of the rest of America) didn't get a chance to vote for or against, setting the legislative agenda of this country. Right now we have a significant majority of senators and congressmen who are in favor of a clean funding bill (which Trump would sign) to end the shutdown, but it is being held up by Schumer (75 years old, 26 years in the Senate) unless the taxpayers yet again pay the ransom demanded to reopen the government, while an unelected, unfireable Judge (77 years old, nominated by Clinton 30 years ago, took senior status 12 years ago) telling the head of the Executive Branch that he cannot exercise executive power over hiring and firing decisions.
What's wrong with young girls dressing like princesses?
"Many of the home-made signs relied on crown iconography ...." But then none of the signs you display after that intro are, in fact, "home-made." They are all obviously professionally printed, with some impressive art-work at the planning end.”
Humorous video out overnight of a long string of white heads, coming out of what could be a senior center or housing facility, with almost all of them sporting the gold crown (top row, middle). About every 4th or so participant was using a walker, and there was even a motorized cart or two. Many had their crowns on top of their real hats. Expect that there was a bus waiting to transport them to the protest right outside the door.
Nothing says spontaneous protest like uniform preprinted signs (or hats/crowns here).
Leftists love royalty around the world. And if the right person was elected (looking at you Obama), they'd gladly make that person King or Queen.
But not a Republican. God no. They find their Federalism when a Republican is in office. (more power to the states!).
As for that theft....wow. If that did not have inside help, I don't know what does.
Can you imagine wearing that crown?
I did not attend the Louisville protest, but I did look at photos from it on reddit. There was a "No kings, but yaaas queens" poster with "drag" and "and drag kings" written in smaller black letters before and after "queens".
There were other pictures in that post of people dressed as bananas. Based on the redditor's username, I'm assuming it's a crass, old woman who took the photos. If so, she would fit right in with the protesters in this set. With lots of them in several sets of photos, actually. Class was not the theme most were going for.
I wonder what age group they are trying to talk to with the protest. One person who couldn't attend painted a picture of Elmo and wrote on her car rear window instead:
#No Kings on the road
Elmo says the letters of the day are PBS, not ICE.
Someone else was dressed as a woopie cushion and had a sign that "drumpf is a stinky old fart". Lots of very childish signs. I understand wanting to have fun with it, but the juvenile nature of some of it feels very odd.
There was also an 86 47 sign and guillotines. Just some peaceful protesters advocating murder.
Tommyesq - A little primer on the budget process:
Congress is supposed to complete actions on budget by June 30. See https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/2/631
The House failed to do this. A bill was never even brought to the floor for a vote. Stuck in committees controlled by Republicans.
Same with the Senate - no budget bill was ever brought to a vote.
Hence the need for a CR - because the republican-controlled Congress failed to follow the law.
Even now, the republican controlled senate has the power to get rid of the filibuster and do whatever it wants without needing any democrat support.
But go ahead and blame the democrats and take no responsibility.
Street theater used to be a guitarist accepting tips, playing folk songs on a subway platform. This embiggening of mass performance art by the Left, with inchoate messaging and null purpose, will be viewed by future anthropoligy PhD thesis writers with amazement. I, for one, look to the brave soul who ties together the Obama campaign (the first blank slate / empty suit candidate to win the presidency) with the utterly useless pink pussy hat protests of 2016 and this hugely popular but completely pointless funtime weekend into a Thorsten-Veblenesque "conspicuous but empty consumption of political protest" analysis. The Left now has only yearning for power, without any rational thought or actual meaning remaining.
’So where was the antifa -led violence yesterday as promised by MAGA?’
I predicted no violence here yesterday. Do you have a source for that ‘promise’, or is this another lame strawman?
That is quite the heist. There had to be inside help to do that.
Those signs are hardly "hand-made." They were printed to look that way, though.
I found it extremely funny that the rally name was changed to "No Tyrants" in countries that actually had royalty.
Let me add - the Republicans have been on recess for weeks when they could be working on the budget they were supposed to finish over 3 months ago.
In today’s Europe, the kings aren’t actually kings.
’Hence the need for a CR - because the republican-controlled Congress failed to follow the law.’
Please identify the year in which Congress last completed the proscribed budget process. lol
A massive theft at the Louvre and no mention of Inspector Jacques Clouseau?
"Many of the home-made signs relied on crown iconography ...." But then none of the signs you display after that intro are, in fact, "home-made." They are all obviously professionally printed, with some impressive art-work at the planning end.”
The three signs that say "NO KINGS" with an "X" through a crown are identical except for the colors used. They are absolutely NOT home-made.

You are making my point for me, except you blame it on Republicans in congress/senate that you were not given the opportunity to vote for or against.

Some of the ones in Louisville had "ACLU" on them.
At heart Trump is more Queen than King.
Re: The Louvre
How did they just allow someone to pull up with a ladder and climb onto a balcony?
Since September of last year, a woman has been in charge of the museum's security. I hope she has a good explanation that does not make her look incompetent.

I am laughing because my wife does not know much French. After she figured out how to make the reservations, I suggested that she might have considered "Etats Unis" instead of USA. She gave me a look and said that she found a way in under the letter "E".

The question was asked of you, jimmy numbers--where did you see or hear the promises of Antifa-led violence by "MAGA?" Can you answer that question?
“The treasures included the Eugénie Crown, adorned with thousands of diamonds and emeralds and worn by Napoleon III's empress consort Eugénie, which was later found tossed below a window of the Louvre and broken into pieces.”
Imagine walking by, spotting the crown, and taking it home for your kids to play with. Too gaudy for me to think it was real.
Here’s a minute by minute replay of the robbery:

You say that like there is no message coordination on the left, and that Antifa is entirely rogue.
This is my favorite story about a couple of art thieves who weren’t discovered till after their deaths. My favorite added bit of info - Rita Alter died at 81. Her nephew said that her car had a little note above the steering wheel: left brake right gas

Now there's a question to throw at AI. And "No Thrones"? I bet next week Trump will put gold ones in the bathrooms of the White House.
We were in Paris in 2017 and decided that we didn't have the time and stamina to see the Louvre on that trip. Fingers crossed that someday we will get back there.
"Let me add - the Republicans have been on recess for weeks when they could be working on the budget they were supposed to finish over 3 months ago. "
Yes, when Congress is on recess, all of the Congressmen are locked away in cold storage and strictly instructed not to be doing anything that might have to do with governance. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Do you really believe that when Congress is out of session, that Congressmen are sitting around doing nothing, no meetings, no work sessions, no aides preparing things, so forth? Can you provide some evidence of this please. PS: I have pictures of Joe Biden snoring away at the beach to provide a helpful prompt of what 'doing nothing' looks like.
“So where was the antifa -led violence yesterday as promised by MAGA?”
AntiqueFA just ran their pieholes, walked around with obscene signage and blew their O-rings.

That's what you want the republicans to do?
What repulsed me were the displays of the hammer and sickle at the demonstrations yesterday.
Why? This is who they are. It's who they've always been.
Remember, these are the exact, same people who openly - and proudly - rooted for the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Oh, sure. Some of them hid behind the 'noble' goal of stopping the nuclear arms race. But they never wanted to stop it. They wanted the United States to stop.
They're nothing more than a fifth column. Always has been. Always will be.
Fly that flag, leftists. Let everybody know who and what you are.
So where was the antifa -led violence yesterday as promised by MAGA?
You were the only one spouting that bullshit. The rest of us didn't give a damn about your tantrum.
Let me add - the Republicans have been on recess for weeks when they could be working on the budget they were supposed to finish over 3 months ago.
Another lie. There have been multiple votes on the clean CR, and each one has been voted down by the Democrats.
This is your shutdown. Own it.
When was the last time Congress passed a budget under regular order? It's been decades, hasn't it?

Different orders were promulgated by Occupy Democrats, here:
"NEW: Proud Boys & Trump's incels plan to attack cops at "No Kings" protests, so Trump can send in the military [angry face emoji]. EVERYONE must hear this: If you see violence, SIT DOWN. Leave the provocateurs standing. Do NOT let them win!"
It wouldn't be hard for a false flag op to be carried out by friendlies in the No Kings crowd. Thankfully it doesn't appear to have happened.
There was plenty of violence at broadview and portland settle down
They aren’t looking for consensus. Look at how many issues they take 30-20% side.
Let me clarify my point: They believe that they had consensus - or at least, as I said, that anyone who disagreed with their right and proper consensus positions was keeping quiet about it, as they should. And that, culturally, was true: they owned the whole works, all the commanding heights of society, and anyone who differed with them kept quiet or was fired, drummed out, accused of heinous social crimes. And then Peter Thiel came along, and Trump, and Charlie Kirk, and slowly those who disagreed stopped being so quiet.
But the left's conviction remains: no matter what the icky voters think, it's the left positions that are the right and proper consensus ones, and everybody needs to get on board - or else it's not a "democracy" any more. Because that's the way we women do "democracy": our votes are always a show of hands so everyone can see, and they always end up unanimous.
Is it Achilles or Jupiter who talks about feminism's being a way for high-status women to keep low-status women down? I hate that I find reason to agree with this, but I do - and I think it can be applied to leftist thought generally.
"Different orders were promulgated..."
When Austin asked about the protest's peaceful vibe, the woman didn't hesitate. "We've all been told to be peaceful," she explained matter-of-factly. "We've had training on how to be peaceful and to deescalate."
https://pjmedia.com/matt-margolis/2025/10/18/pink-haired-protestor-says-the-quiet-part-out-loud-about-no-kings-n4945016
So- the left is "just following orders". Again.
P.S. to the last comment...
Does it seem odd to anyone, that leftists would need to be instructed to be peaceful when protesting?
Does it seem odd to anyone, that leftists would need to be instructed to be peaceful when protesting?
Instapundit had a post yesterday listing all the 'rally reminders' for the attendees. And I mentioned it's interesting how the left needs to be reminded on how to act like decent human beings.
Did anybody check for a license?
