My theory about that server farm in NYC attached to the cellular network: https://cheq.ai/blog/8-bizarre-click-farms-discovered-and-how-they-worked/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

It's not to attack the phone network, there are far less expensive ways to do that, it was to sell fake social media engagement, and probably a lot of the scams you get in text messages come from it.

The WSJ defendants moved to dismiss the Epstein birthday card libel complaint. Thought they might move to transfer to SDNY where their lawyers are. But NY and FL libel laws close enough and both have anti-SLAPP laws. With disclosure of the entire card by Congress it will be very hard to defeat the motion.

NPR was reporting on the Jimmy Kimmel reinstatement today. About 2/3 of the way through the story - after getting the Progressive-Leftist-Man-On-The-Street interviews with citizens super proud of their accomplishments in defeating the Evil Orange censors with crowd pow-wah - the announcer got around to the sad trombone part of the story, where the conservative-toned networks have declined to resume broadcasting Kimmel and instead will broadcast local news or other more interesting material, like the crops report.

At this point the announcer intoned that ABC still has leverage over these recalcitrant markets: They have the power to withhold sports broadcasting of college and professional ball.

I thought, as I heard this, 'Perfect'. That's the ticket. You won't take the dog food, so we're going to block your sports ball. Absolutely perfect. Do it. NPR, and apparently ABC, really think this is going to improve their market share? They would broadcast this kind of sentiment? Watch Kimmel, or else?

It would seem that they cannot stop reminding us of who they are, even when they're losing they're obnoxious.

"After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form. With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option. Why not? Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win. This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like “a paper tiger.”

I wonder if someone could write an LLM tool that by crawling Twitter and blog comment-sections, could detect the talking-point phrases of the day faster than normal humans can detect them. It would be interesting to see how subtle that kind of detection could be made. I'm sure it would be easy to create something that would note that some of today's talking-points included the specific words "loose affiliation" (whoever mailed out that one gets points for the Paul Simon reference), since so many tweets/posts appeared almost simultaneously on multiple sites using those words.
But would it be possible for a machine-learning algorithm to detect not just the words "Epstein files," but their being shoehorned into contexts in which they are mostly irrelevant?
I think the biggest challenge would be separating actual disseminated talking points from very similar human-created slop spread by parroting.

Also: What's the deal with the one-line tweets complaining about any profanity? They don't all come from the same account, but they're phrased mostly the same, so I assume that this is some kind of bot. But who is doing this and why?

If you want a quick estimate of the relative degree of political corruption in a US state, look at their electricity rates. In the continental US there aren't really natural obstacles to power generation, or there haven't been for a long time. These rates are determined entirely by political policies that create local cost structures, because someone wants to feed off artificially raised costs.
CA - 33.5 cents/kwh
NY - 26.18
IL - 18.33
TX - 16.28
Etc - https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.php?t=epmt_5_6_a

There's a market for "Tactical Pens." These are pointy metal or plastic objects with a pen inside, and they may evade detection with security screenings. Some of them are sharp, but most are rounded off and instead used to cause pain points.

Yes, airport security staff are fully aware. I'm not sure if all security screeners would spot them.

I think that Zelensky, who is, BTW, a native Russian speaker and certainly has read the novel in Russian as a boy or young man, thinks that he is Tsar Alexander, from War and Peace, who refused to negotiate with Napoleon, and eventually, Napoleon's army was exhausted, and went away.

It's a strategy, it's worked before. I suppose it comes down to friends, will Europe fold first, Germany is basically in a depression since the Nord Stream was blown up, but they are still raring for a fight, Fred Merz is, anyway, the Russians call Germany "Greater Estonia," France and Britain doing little better, and all of their leaders are far more unpopular at home than Trump is.

The second question is, if it really does start to get rough for Russia economically, will China step in to help them, given that China knows that if Russia falls, it will have no serious allies against the US, which is itching for a war over Taiwan, which then can be used as a platform to subjugate the mainland.

There are two lands in the world, as far as the neocons and neoliberals are concerned: "Dar al-Islam," land of surrender, and "Dar al-Harb," land of war.

Court Dismisses Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s Constitutional Challenge to His Termination

"A federal judge ruled that Strzok hadn’t produced sufficient evidence for his First and Fifth Amendment challenges to his 2018 firing.

...

While the full ruling is under seal, Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia publicly released a summary of her ruling, in which she dismissed Strzok’s claims that his First and Fifth Amendment rights had been violated by the termination.

“The Court ... finds that [Strzok’s] interest in expressing his opinions about political candidates on his FBI phone at that time was outweighed by the FBI’s interest in avoiding the appearance of bias in its ongoing investigations of those very people,” Jackson wrote."

Why do we have Green Berets in Taiwan?

https://www.wsj.com/articles/telling-the-truth-about-war-over-taiwan-general-michael-minihan-troops-china-military-power-memo-leak-11675023652

Generals have been writing that the window to "deter" China is closing fast. What does that mean? That we expect China to attack us while she is still too weak to win? Or more likely, do we want the war to happen before it is too late for us to win?

Jimmy Kimmel is a liar. I don't lie here, I am occasionally mistaken, and when I see that, I post an apology and a correction. BTW, I don't post that when somebody claims to have "refuted" my arguments by claiming that no true American believes them.

The United States recognizes Taiwan as part of China, and the Taiwanese government proclaims themselves the legitimate government of all of China. It's a civil war.

It's kind of fascinating, because we are trying to do with Taiwan, break it off from China, exactly the same thing that Russia is doing in Ukraine. Puts China in a tough position, but I think that finally Xi has come to the conclusion that it's position as right under the law, that Taiwan is part of China is not going to save it.

Remember that Taiwan has been part of China since the Middle Ages. Imperial Japan conquered it, then used it as a springboard for an invasion of the mainland that cost China many millions of lives. After WWII when Mao tried to reclaim the island, the US military sent warships into the Taiwan Strait and militarily engaged the Chinese. For what purpose? Because we want the island to put us in a position to completely blockade China and subjugate her, the same way Japan did.

If you want to believe the propaganda, go ahead, but I would suggest you read a little history and think about the stuff they tell us.

Jaq said...

Remember that those YouTube channels were silenced on the demand of the Biden Administration, and they had not violated any YouTube terms of service.

"I don't lie here, I am occasionally mistaken, and when I see that, I post an apology and a correction." Really? Because I have corrected your claim that the US overthrew Assad three or four times in these pages, you have never come up with any kind of evidence in response, and yet you were repeating the claim just yesterday as if it were a well-known fact.

The fact is that the Syrian people overthrew Assad, with a lot of help from Turkey and a little from Ukraine. The US and Israel didn't have a damned thing to do with it, except tangentially, in that Israel's destruction of Hezbollah with exploding beepers removed one of his principal allies.

It is also utterly untrue that the US wants a war with China. It's perfectly obvious that the US is desperately trying to find some way to avoid a disastrous war, and that the only country in East Asia that wants war is China, which is already committing acts of war against the Philippines, and openly planning to make war on Taiwan. And Jaq still hasn't figured out that the will of people of Taiwan is the only thing that matters in the question of who owns the place. History is utterly irrelevant, and not believing in self-determination is in fact unAmerican.

Jaq said...

"The Taiwanese want to be independent of China, and will fight for it if necessary"

Besides, none of my analysis depends on what you think, or what I think, it depends on what Xi thinks.

BTW Dr Weevil, I don't bother with your comments any more. Too many plainly false statements, like the one about Bandera, too many "refutations" that depend on taking the word of Ukrainian propagandists as gospel, (appeal to authority) or that if Russians agree with something, it must automatically be a lie (attribution fallacy), or that I am not a loyal American (no true Scotsman). I am willing to take the risk that one day you will make a solid point and I will miss it. And I don't personally care whether Jaq reads my comments, because I know he will ignore them or lie about them, as he does here. I only reply to him for the benefit of third parties who might be tempted to believe him if no one objected to his filthy lies.

He still hasn't offered a smidgeon of evidence that the US or Israel had any role in the overthrow of Assad, which seems to have taken both by surprise.

Dr Weevil said...

As for Dinky, the story is that 1200 of the 1800 residents of Alligator Alcatraz are no longer in the Alligator Alcatraz database. Oh no! All that means is that they've been moved to the Already Deported database, because they're back home now. The Alligator Alcatraz database naturally includes only current residents!

Dr Weevil said...

There is of course zero evidence that anything close to a majority of the residents of the Donbas ever wanted to be part of Russia. When they voted on it in 1991, it was one-sixth. And I've quoted more than once the Russian who complained that he thought 20% of the men of the Donbas would volunteer to fight for their pseudo-independence, but only 1/2 of 1% did, and they were all drunks and losers. So "like the Donbas" is a stupid and dishonest thing to write. I've already refuted that comparison more than once.
