“What’s Up With Peter Thiel’s Obsession With the Antichrist?

In yet another troubling sign of these times, Peter Thiel can’t stop talking up the Antichrist. This month, the tech billionaire is delivering a four-part, closed-door lecture on the topic, which he is framing as “political theology,” in San Francisco. It’s part of what you might call an “Antichrist World Tour” by the PayPal and Palantir co-founder, who has already given off-the-record Antichrist lectures at Oxford, Harvard, and Bari Weiss’s ersatz college, the University of Austin.”

If you take the long view, Charlie Kirk had it exactly correct. Talk to the college kids, get as many of them to hear a different point of view as possible. They are the future, and the ones who will decide where this nation goes. A civil war, no matter how justifiable, would set this country back over a hundred years. We, the commentariat of this blog, are, at best, the dying embers of a once great nation. Perhaps we can help rekindle the torch, but we are not the ones who will carry it forward.

Apologies for being maudlin, but that is how it is.

JD Vance lied today on ‘The Charlie Kirk Show’ when he said the statistics are clear that this is a left-wing problem,” It’s the exact reverse. You look at the ADL center for extremism, which looked at 444 people killed by extremists between 2013 and 2022, 75% of them by the right.
The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism indeed confirmed this in a 2024.
You look at the University of Maryland study that was done for their terrorism center, which found that from 1948 to 2018, right-wing extremists were more likely to carry out violence than left-wing extremists,
Look at the head of the FBI who [President] Donald Trump appointed, Chris Wray, who said the No. 1 domestic terror threat in this country comes from religious and racially motivated extremists, especially white supremacists.
The National Institute for Justice found that the majority of instances since 1990, violent terroristic acts, were right-wing extremists, the single-biggest day of political violence, in our lifetimes, in this country, was Jan. 6, 2021.
The National Institute of Justice had indeed confirmed the former claim in 2024; however, the article has been curiously removed, with a notice stating that the Department of Justice is reviewing its websites and materials in accordance with recent Executive Orders. Ah yes those alternative facts and people who just mimic what they hear without any type of real fact searching.
Charlie Kirk was supposed to be a free speech martyr, why is the right using his death to crack down on free speech and American rights ? Hate speech has always been around.
Trump ,struggling with how to respond to Kirk’s death, appeared not to even know about Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman , who was slain by an apparent Trump supporter in June , while defending his half-staff flag orders for Kirk. Selective memory or just too old and inept to know real facts, the President for Maga's only. Very sad but this too shall pass and this Dark period in history will be read by my great grandkids like we read about Benedict Arnold and the likes (unless they reach their goal of adjusting history like it never happened) Time will tell This whole section will be all taking dirt naps by then. Eagerly awaiting the debut of the Kamala Harris on Sept. 23. It is ranked #16 at the moment. There was a day it was ranked #1 early on. For the past several months it’s been ranked in the 100s to the 1000s. The #1 book now is Charlie Kirk’s book Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life. All together 8 books, either written by Kirk, prefaced by Kirk or about Kirk are in the top 60.
The Constitution and Declaration of the US is at #27. There are 13 editions of the Bible on the best 100 Amazon best seller list. Recently there’s always been a couple versions but not this many. Eric Trump’s Under Siege is #5. Victor Frankl’s Man’s Search For Meaning is at #42 and Mere Christianity by CS Lewi is #37. Assault on Truth by Jeffrey Masson is available for pre-order at #20. The Assault on Truth is about Masson’s dramatic break with the psychoanalytic establishment. Chaos by Tom O’Neil is #23. Fahrenheit 451 has been on the list for a very long time. Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm are on and off the list. Right now both are on the list.
My favorite book on the list is Doug by Douglas Scott Wreden. “This extraordinary new book is written by the award-winning published-author DougDoug. This book contains the word Doug about 50,000 times and nothing else.” Wreden has about a million followers on Twitch and YouTube and the book is a bit of a prank by him for his followers.

We talk about Nigerian internet scammers, but it seems like their biggest victims are other Africans, who are too smart to fall for "Nigerian prince" gambits, but will jump to get work in the developed world. I suppose everyone here is smart enough not to click on unsolicited emails, but even if you don't there are still ways you can be hacked.

Peter Thiel seems fixated on society’s inevitable collapse. Why is it that a man who has amassed billions of dollars, backs some of the most influential companies on Earth and has close ties to Donald Trump’s White House should be preoccupied by something as bleak as apocalyptic doomerism?

Thiel is particularly fond of an obscure investment publication titled: 'The Sovereign Individual' by Lord William Rees-Mogg (father of Jacob) that describes the coming end of the established world order and why that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Its basic argument goes like this: in the new Information Age assets and labor will move online, beyond the reach of nation states. This digital economy will make it difficult for governments to collect taxes, leaving state infrastructure to degrade. As nation states become less powerful, wars will cease but local unrest will increase. A new “cognitive elite” will rise — able to pick and choose where they live. These sovereign individuals will “compete and interact on terms that echo the relations among the gods in Greek myth”. The rest of us will be left behind to scrap over the crumbs, becoming jingoistic and “unpleasant”.

No prizes for guessing who regard themselves as the Olympian elite. If you — like many in the tech sector — want zero state interference, then there is something deeply appealing about the book’s view that a global cyber economy without politics is the next turning point in history. Collapse will bring about transformation.

Knock! Knock! There's no exit value except through some government-ordered fiat money. The exit is back to a state of nature that humankind put a lot of effort into evolving away from, not towards. Only a government mediated rule of law can guarantee that exchanges can be effected. What worth is a pile of crypto if there is no wheat in the marketplace? (See Gaza to watch how exchange works in the absence of fiat money and government mediation. See Gaza to see how foreign policy works when created, supported, and sustained by American billionaires!)

The brilliance of tech ascendance is not human, but structural. Zero marginal costs, powerful network effects, and steep learning curve efficiencies converge to form supernova effects. The guys holding the stock certificates are more fortuitous bystanders than first-mover geniuses and creators. They also can't exit. There's no intrinsic value beyond what the certificates can be exchanged into. And exchange is a monopoly of some organized power in a society of humans.

Order is the critical ingredient that riches cannot buy (although it endlessly tries to subvert it). Thomas Hobbes' The Leviathan will outlast them all. When it comes to post-government nirvana, there is no there there.

Dr Weevil ने कहा…

Prof. Drout:
Trolling goes back to the 90s, by which I mean the years from 90 to 100 AD. The Roman poet Martial wrote short witty epigrams, and in a couple he mentions people who are so desperate to be mentioned in his poems that they're hoping he'll abuse them verbally - in a poetic way, of course. He refuses to oblige, and abuses them without naming them. One he tells "If you want a poem written about you, don't ask me, go ask the guy who scrawls verses with chalk or charcoal on toilet walls for people to read while shitting". Or in modern terms, ask the guy who wrote the classic "Here I sit, broken hearted".

You can call him a liar, I am just reporting what he said, but he said that Macron privately told him a couple years ago that NATO provoked the Ukraine war. He has said in the past that some European leader told him that, but had never revealed the name until recently, he let it slip.

I get it though. Everybody who doubts Ukraine's version of events is a "paid liar" or a "filthy liar." Believe it or not, I got banned from a blog I really miss for going after Putin after 2014, this is before I started following Ukraine, which I took an interest in when they boldly interfered on behalf of Hillary in 2016 by lying about Trump's campaign manager, and getting those lies printed in the New York Times in August ("Black Ledger) prior to the election, and then when they were involved in the impeachment.

Steve McIntyre did a lot of great work analyzing the presence of Ukrainian politicians in Joe Biden's White House offices through the visitor logs, you know who else was in these meetings? "The Whistleblower."

They always accuse the other side of what they are doing, therefore Trump was accused of being helped by the Russians, when actually, and the proof is on the front page of the New York Times, it was Hillary and Ukraine interfering.

Just for fun <- Don't click on it if you don't want to see the way the press coverage of Ukraine changed after the crisis.

Interesting that you keep saying Ukraine did this and Ukraine did that, not the previous government of Ukraine, which the people of Ukraine voted out by a huge margin in favor of Zelenskyy. Why do you blame Zelenskyy for what Poroshenko did? Do you blame Trump for what Biden and Obama did? That would be stooooopid.

Jim at ने कहा…

The gaslighting on the killer’s motive is insane.

The reason the left is focusing on the motive - or lack thereof, in their case - is to take away from their reaction to his death.

That is the story that has legs.

After Mr. Kirk's service - and people start to move on - the motive and subsequent legal process will slowly turn.

What won't change is the left's initial reaction to his murder. Because it's out there. Preserved forever.

Don't get distracted. Beat them over the head with it from now until the end of time. Make them own it.

They celebrated his murder. Motive has nothing to do with it.

Achilles ने कहा…

One of those interesting knock on effects is that millions of generally non-political and new to online media people have heard about the assassination and they have started watching videos of Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk was a very nice person and decent to the core. He was always extremely polite.

Non-political people are upset by the current situation because there is going to be immense pressure to pick a side.

All of these non-political people are watching videos of Charlie and their thought is "Why did the leftists think they had to kill him?"

This is going to be over relatively quickly. It may be enough to throw a few thousand of them in jail and to defund the University system.

Anatomy of Two Giant Deals: The U.A.E. Got Chips. The Trump Team Got Crypto Riches

Steve Witkoff, who, with the Trump Family, co-founded World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency concern, facilitated the crypto deal. Witkoff is also Trump's Middle East envoy. And would have been involved in ensuring the Emirates' access to the A.I. chips.

Mr. Witkoff sat down with a member of the ultrarich ruling family of the United Arab Emirates. He was meeting Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who controls $1.5 trillion of the Emiratis' sovereign wealth. Over the past few months, Mr. Witkoff and Sheikh Tahnoon had become both diplomatic allies and business partners, testing the limits of ethics rules while enriching the president, his family and his inner circle, according to an investigation by The New York Times.

In May, Mr. Witkoff's son Zach announced the first of the deals at a conference in Dubai. One of Sheikh Tahnoon's investment firms would deposit $2 billion into World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency start-up founded by the Witkoffs and Trumps.

Two weeks later, the White House agreed to allow the U.A.E. access to hundreds of thousands of the world's most advanced and scarce computer chips, a crucial tool in the high-stakes race to dominate artificial intelligence. Many of the chips would go to G42, a sprawling technology firm controlled by Sheikh Tahnoon, despite national security concerns that the chips could be shared with China. Of course, China. It takes a MAGA to believe that Trump would put America first.

Speaking at the Yalta European Security Conference in Kyiv, Kellogg revealed he and the chairman, Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, each reassured the president of Moscow’s wilting position roughly six weeks ago — shortly before Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

“If Putin thinks Russia is winning, his definition of winning and my definition of winning are absolutely two different things,” Kellogg said. “If he was winning, he’d be in Kyiv. If he’s winning, he’d be west of the Dnipro River. If he was winning, he’d be on Odessa. If he was winning, he would have changed the government.

Then along came Charlie Kirk. Thanks for the info about paid influencers. I would like to see examples of such sponsored content. We know they exist, but I wonder how widespread they are and how to identify them.

Interesting strategy to use paid influencers as mouthpieces. It is important that they appear to be just ordinary people posting their own thoughts. Their impact would be diminished if they were revealed to be part of a paid machine. The paid influencer strategy allows them to post in the first person and to talk about their friends and family, which would be deceptive if they were actually a team of employees.

I have been assuming Kak is one of those because of the mechanical production of neat talking points that seem to try to stay just this side of slander I find Kak useful, though, because his/her/its posts seem to be a weathervane of the latest strategic positioning from that corner of the discourse.

Wendy, you have just described the problem with Hamas, the PLO, Hezbollah and all such organizations.

So, uh, Trump clearly states that smart people don’t like him and the MAGA crowd cheers and says they like him.

buwaya--We've been assured that Russia is losing the war for a very long time now. Putin seems to have a different definition of "losing."
What is the end game?

That is the difference between a Pythagorus Day and the Pythagorus Day, Le Douchebag.

Yancey Ward ने कहा…

No, Ronald. It is people who think they are smart that don't like Trump. He was tweeking your nose, dumbass.

"Doomerism" of one sort or another is common among billionaires. Zuckerberg builds his island hideaway. Ellison buys up 98% of another island. Gates always has some utopian or dystopian future in mind. Pessimism about the future isn't unwarranted or confined to billionaires. The rest of us just don't have the resources to plan for it.

Lazarus:
Maybe not so surprising. If you think you're the center of the world, and proud of having 10,000 times more money and other possessions than the average guy, it must really gnaw at your soul that you're not going to live 10,000 times longer, or even twice as long. Your vast wealth may enable you to live 10% longer, but that's it. You're still very unlikely to make it to 100. Convincing yourself that the world will end along with you may be some kind of perverse comfort - for a totally self-centered atheist, that is.

Special Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg on Monday said he and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff recently advised President Trump that Russia is losing its war on Ukraine — as Moscow has seen more than 1 million casualties while taking less than 1% of Ukrainian territory since November 2022.

My best guess is that Kellog is a Chinese agent who wants the US to fight Russia.

Ukraine is on the verge of collapse. Europe is on the verge of collapse.

The United States is not far behind.

People think the future is some minor variation of the present. This is a product of limited intelligence.

The US if it follows historical patterns is likely to fall in the next few decades. There are historical debt patterns and societal divisions that we are following exactly and every single empire over 5000 years who followed these patterns fell not far past the points we currently find ourselves in.

Europe is already finished.

Real figures on casualties are bouncing around, and they are nothing like the figures coming out of Ukraine's propaganda mills, laundered through British Intelligence with a wink, and then taken seriously be everybody.

And the scuttlebutt being hinted at is that Kursk was an utter disaster, that took as many Ukrainian lives as the battle for Bakhmut, for nothing, and the the counter offensive, while successful, was also devastating in terms of Ukrainian losses, as the Russians set up fire target zones as they retreated, and then the Ukrainians ran into the Russia defensive lines and were just slaughtered there.

Basically the Ukrainians have taken the casualties that Kellogg is claiming that the Russians have taken, and this is BAU for propagandist.

Maybe I am wrong, but just because Ukraine shows a lot of snuff video of Russians dying by drone, they don't add up, in the larger scheme of things, to massive casualties, even if they create a sense of it.

My guess is that the real casualties are going to leak soon, and they are going to match up with that supposed leak from Ukrainian headquarters, and Ukrainian casualties are actually horrific.

But time will tell.

"It is important that they appear to be just ordinary people posting their own thoughts." They can't do it though. It's just not possible, because they can't be honest about their goals.

Dr Weevil, a commenter that I like, BTW, even if we get into it all the time, I think that he is honestly presenting his own opinions, did a pretty good takedown of Dinky Dau, whom he caught cutting and pasting his comments from some source.

it was a real fustercluck, the leaked document by teixeira show more of this, and the solution probably cannot be solved on the battlefield with contraktiki, like the ones prigozhin used to supply, nor the Ukrainian conscripts either,

Who's winning in Ukraine? Here's a senior Russian propagandist, Maksim Kalashnikov (link):

"Russian Z-propagandist Maksim Kalashnikov publicly admits that Putin’s so-called 'liberation' army has brought nothing but destruction to the residents of Donbas and other occupied territories of Ukraine.

"'We came to "liberate" Russian regions, but we’ve turned them into ruins. It turns out we’ve punished the most Russian, most developed regions of Novorossiya.

"Unfortunately, yes, we’ll have to say goodbye to Ukraine - to the dream of reunification. Well, not say goodbye, but bid it farewell for a very, very long time. The chance was missed in 2014,' he says."

Don't believe the written summary or the subtitles, which have a lot more interesting stuff, because they were provided by a Ukrainian? Find a Russian speaker and have your own transcription made.

Note: I believe this Kalashnikov is a grandson of the famous gun-designer.

Dr Weevil ने कहा…

And here's another subtitled video from 2019 in which one of the Russians who led the supposed rebellion in Donbass says (link):

"We had expected that 20 % of the local male population would join the militia to fight against the Ukrainian army. In the end, it was only half a percent. And who were they? Homeless people, drunks, unemployed people."

There's lots more in the video, in less than 2 minutes (the Kalashnikov video is less then 3). In short, anyone who thinks the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a "civil war" is just demonstrating total ignorance of actual events.

I could be wrong but I think that is Venus not the moon, 27 deg east of the sun and 12 deg above the horizon at sunrise. The moon would have been higher at 20 degrees above the horizon and 35 degrees east so a pic with the sunrise and moon should have also shown Venus which is very bright now.
