I had thought there was no music, that somehow silence was the soundscape for the event, but at 24:07 I see musicians and notice faint music. Perhaps there was music all along and a telephoto lens on the camera is creating the illusion that it is much closer than it seems. The faint music informs us of our great distance from these illustrious characters.

The hats were previously worn by the Frogs, you see, who lost them in that battle to the Brits. Could have been worse, the Brits also defeated many other foreign powers with worse headgear, such as the shako or picklehaub. Now those would just look silly being worn in a parade such as this.

I heard one commentator, who I suspect is listened to on the down low in the WH, suggest that the world could be rid of Starmer if Trump would only endorse him. This trip was planned in Feb, and the idea was that Starmer could butter Trump up, and make up for sending operatives to help Kamala, and get Trump to help them with their war against Russia, but now Starmer is so unpopular, losing ministers and polling incredibly low, that Trump's endorsement might lead to his ouster.
When the invitation was extended, it was widely believed among the war mongers in Europe that Trump could be brought along to do their bidding through flattery. Hasn't worked.
Trump is even more unpopular in the UK than Starmer, and that is saying something.

I will never forget a long ago trip to London with an ex-gf. She didn't realize that "Mew" is archaic word for trained raptors used in falconry, specifically hawks and falcons ("The Royal Mews" originally being where the royal hawks were kept).
I had great joy superimposing "mew" throughout our conversations a-la-SuperTrooper style for the rest of our trip. Our relationship ended shortly thereafter.
Totally worth it.

I came cross a computer box Sunday. I had forgotten I had it, but inside were some of the last few photos I have of my life before my wife died. It had some photos of the queen’s visit to my ship in 1983 (USS Ranger CV-61). I was an usher, and was pretty close to them. Beyond gracious people, and Phillip was enthralled with the ship itself. San Diego is gorgeous. 23 year old me was always blown away looking from Coronado to the hill/mountainside across the bay. It’s an insanely beautiful backdrop and the Queen and prince were magnificent in the foreground.
William is tall. But we have one taller, his name is Barron.

I'm surprised by the negativity in this thread. The royals may not have been acquitting themselves well since the death of Elizabeth, but it is nice to see that they can still execute pomp and circumstance well. William and Kate seem to have the chops for their current and future roles. We'll see how Starmer et al. fair in the coming days. Sorry I love all this Windsor stuff. Close friends drove us there for the day. I could have stayed in the little china room where they sell entry tickets. I recognized all the dining rooms from news when I was small. Did you know there’s a golf course kind of hidden away on the grounds? We got to sit in the narrow seats at St. Georges then watched one some guards eff with one on duty. I got dragged out for chatting about MoD watches with one of the old soldiers what live on the slope. We had to stop at the fabu playground across the street for the little one…

When I was middle school age my father was assigned as liaison officer to the German I Korps in Muenster. As this was in north Germany in the British sector, I attended the school for the children of Her Majesty's army at the Royal Army base in the Loddenheide, there not being any nearby US bases with schools for Army dependents. I attended several trooping the colors type events while in Muenster, which I absolutely loved. To this day nothing stirs the blood like the pipes and drums of a British army band. (Although Preussens Gloria comes close.)

If you want some "carriage" fun next time you visit London, take a tour of the Buckingham Palace stables. I did the tour a couple of years ago. with my wife and grandkids. You see the horses of course--and you also get a closeup view of the various Royal Carriages. Some of them are astoundingly elaborate.

I have a childhood friend who gets passionate about things. One has been falconry. So, maybe 15 years ago, he announced that he was going to install mews got the hawks and falcons he was going to get. Hard “no” from his wife. So maybe once a year, when I am around the two of them, I will get into a discussion with him about where to put his mews. His wife is rather humor impaired there, and it’s still a hard “no” from her.

Camilla, as a sporty independent-school girl, must have gotten into some good donnybrooks. Maybe one of them will tell the joke about the Queen Mum asking if one of the old queens downstairs can bring a drink to the old queen upstairs.
Starmer is about six places away from Trump; he isn't even near Rubio. Why? Because Trump and the King are heads of state, and Marco is Secretary of State, while Sir Keir is just head of government. Best thing about monarchy is it keeps the politicians from getting uppity.

I understand that Starmer is going to be appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the King's Own Queens.
In the span of a year, Starmer took a 0 net approval rating and turned it into a negative net 40 approval rating. Starmer entered power with a massive majority and a free hand to act. Instead of making use of the majority for public benefit, he acted like it was 1996 all over again, ignoring the fact that nearly 30 years of history have passed since that time. History will definitely not judge Starmer kindly. His handling of internal party politics may end up effectively destroying the Labour Party. Economic policy management may not have been easy, but he has not exactly performed well on that score either.
Don't think we Americans have ever had such an elegant first lady as Melania Trump.
