"I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now..."

"... because his audience is GONE, and his 'talent' was never there. Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE. He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings."

Kimmel opened his monologue with "jokes" that fell flat, like claiming that comedians from Germany offered him a job. “This country has become so authoritarian, the Germans are like, ‘Come here. Cut loose,'” he quipped. The real focus of his monologue was trying to frame his suspension as a political hit job orchestrated by the Trump administration.

When Kimmel addressed the controversy that got him suspended — you know, when he lied about Charlie Kirk’s killer being a MAGA supporter — he grew serious and even appeared to get emotional. He disavowed the idea that he had joked about a murder and explained that he was much too fine a person to do any such thing. And he took pains to disconnect the assassination from any political ideology:

--Matt Margolis:

Saint Croix చెప్పారు...

That was a very sweet monologue. Kimmel's voice cracked hard with genuine emotion when he talked about the murder of a young man.

Interesting to compare this clip to the clip that got him kicked off the airwaves. The first was very smug, very harsh, dishonest, and not funny at all.

This clip is very human and very real. Still not actually funny, but he's a lot more likable now. He feels bad that an innocent man was murdered. You'd think a lot of people on the left would feel this way. Sadly, they do not. And Kimmel was one of those people who sounded like they didn't give a damn, in his original clip.

Nice to know Jimmy Kimmel has a heart.

That chain of cause and effect seems confused. To prove the point I think Rogan is trying to make, you'd have to show: Kimmel's lying about Kirk's murderer was used a pretext to threaten some sort of merger to derail Kimmel because "Trump doesn't like Kimmel."

But how can you disentangle Trump's dislike of Kimmel from Kimmel's on-air comments about Kirk's murder, which is in fact the sum and substance of the regulatory claim against Kimmel?

After one of his victories, Pyrrhus, a general who lived in Roman times during a period of chaos, said: Another such victory and I will be completely destroyed. And that's how I see it. A private lawsuit is one thing — a sitting president suggesting ‘pay up or else’ is another.

As I point out above, people seem to be conflating four different things: (1) a potential FCC regulatory claim against Kimmel for his false assertion about Kirk's killer; (2) the pendency of some ABC-related merger before the FCC (and DOJ, FTC?), (3) Trump's speculation about an FEC claim for ABC's in-kind donations by a network, and (4) settlement of Trump's private defamation claim against ABC. Five if you consider the motive for ABC's affiliates not broadcasting Kimmel's show.

In the regulatory proceedings, there's a whole process that has to be followed, including public comment, etc. That's why big companies always want to steer clear of public controversy going into them.

You saw the turn-out for the Kirk memorial. Can you imagine the public comment process ABC et al. face? That's why ABC pulled Kimmel forthwith. Now, to placate the Hollywood left, they brought Kimmel back and will focus group the issue to death in the lead up to any regulatory proceeding.

Like the Kirk memorial, I really don't see Trump as the key player in the direct outcome. What I do see is people trying to censor Trump's speech and access to the judicial system because he's president.

It is what he does. It is who he is. But...he is also a classless, gutless phony who was not even man enough to actually apologize. To say, "I'm sorry". Instead he held up Erika Kirk as a symbol of grace (and you have to know how hard that was for he and his team to accept doing) and hid behind her.

He literally ran from the truth of his own malicious bullshit, then came back and played contrite while he hid behind the grace of the murdered man's wife.

I have no time for cretins like Jimmy Kimmel. He was a low brow comedian years ago. He's a low class human as well, as it turns out.

Jamie చెప్పారు...

From what I can find, he said Trump was exploiting the assination for political gain and was insincere.

Part was about Trump's supposed insincerity. Part was about "MAGA" trying to "pretend" that the shooter was from the left. And part was the implication that the shooter was from the right.

I think Carr should've kept his mouth shut; there was no "smoking gun" in Kimmel's monologue, just a typically tasteless display. And beyond the horrific event itself, the real story is the widespread celebration on the left of Kirk's murder.

But as for the equal time claim - that policy hasn't been enforced in some years even though it's still on the books, and of course it's abundantly clear that the broadcast stations have been blatantly in disregard of the rule for those same years. The FCC has every right to demand that broadcasters comply with the rules of their licensing; this is just the first time in decades that there's been an FCC that might actually do it.

Ronald J. Ward చెప్పారు...

Achillies, so if the FCC should punish networks for partisan bias, why hasn’t Fox News faced the same scrutiny for altering stories to favor Republicans? Your argument only works when it suits one party — that’s not about public airwaves, it’s about partisan censorship.

He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars.

You've never heard of a "test case"? I'm sure Trump, the ultimate non-lawyer, was advised by his legal team on the prospects of finding a "test case" to challenge what he sees as the massive in-kind donation of the dominant media to Democrats.

AI Overview
To test a legal theory, one must present a novel legal argument, supported by facts and evidence, in a specific case in order to persuade a court to adopt it. This process is known as bringing a "test case" and is often done with the intention of clarifying or challenging an existing law or setting a new precedent.

Steps for testing a legal theory
Develop a legal argument. Create a "case theory," which is the underlying idea that explains how the law and facts support your desired outcome. This involves legal research and applying legal principles to the facts of the case...

Select an appropriate test case. Because courts only hear actual disputes, a "test case" must be built around a real controversy. It is strategically important to find a case with facts, location, and timing that are conducive to getting a favorable ruling on the issue you want to test. Notable test cases have led to landmark Supreme Court decisions, including Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board of Education, and Griswold v. Connecticut.

Use evidence to prove facts. To prove a legal theory in court, you must establish the relevant facts with admissible evidence. The evidence can include witness testimony, documents, photos, or physical objects...

Argue the theory in court... Use citators to verify legal precedent. If your theory relies on existing case law, use a citator like Westlaw's KeyCite to ensure the precedent has not been overturned or negatively affected by a more recent decision.

Pursue appeals if necessary. A test case may need to be appealed through the court system to get a ruling at a higher level, potentially reaching the Supreme Court. An organization might bring a case specifically to reach the Supreme Court and get a ruling on an important issue of public interest.

Two of the biggest progressive podcasters have walked right up to the legal line of actual incitement. Which also holds true for almost all of the LW commenters here. Virtually none of those politicians or of your LW wing commenters can bring themselves to make an unqualified condemnation of that violence or even admit what a blind man can see: almost all of the political violence in the country is committed by the left with the right as its target.

More on your LW commentors. With few exceptions, they are fanatics. As demonstrated by the fact that almost none of them can keep their mouth shut when it would obviously serve the country, and especially the left to do so. I'm talking about you, Kaka, Inga, Gadfly, and company. Google sociopathy.

Hold your cards everyone, we have a BINGO! I’ve been warning all along that the argument would go from “Trump isn’t a dictator” to “a dictatorship would be better than what we have now”. And there it is- that textbook example of moral rationalization sliding into authoritarian acceptance that dictators have groomed the cult with for years.

That “I just don’t care” is a chapter in itself- willing to overlook dangerous behavior because you feel the target (Trump/MAGA) is being unfairly attacked. That’s the moral suspension phase that precedes acceptance of rule-breaking or authoritarian tactics.

Another important chapter- “These mere words and even lawsuits and firings are a mild return” — reframes coercion, intimidation, or abuse of power as acceptable or justified retaliation- a key step in rationalizing authoritarianism.

“Better any alternative” — any means, even morally or legally questionable, are justified if they serve the in-group. This is the ends-justify-the-means mindset that makes people tolerate dictatorship-like behavior.

In plain terms: this is moving from frustration at perceived enemies to accepting, even condoning, coercive or abusive tactics from leaders you support — a classic gateway into authoritarian normalization.

Notice Bagoh’s logic here: perceived past wrongs justify overlooking or even endorsing intimidation and abuse. That’s exactly how tolerance for authoritarian behavior grows.

Well said, Gadfly. I grew up in a Republican home, and I voted for Ford and Reagan in the first two presidential elections I was old enough to vote. By the time of Reagan's second run, I had wised up and I have never voted for any Republican for the presidency since. I voted for a few Dem candidates, (Mondale, Dukakis, and Clinton--not so happy about any of them, but better than the Republicans.) Beginning with Clinton's second run, I began voting for Green Party candidates--protest votes against unsuitable Dems, who have moved more to the right for several decades--which I continued to do for every election until 2024, when I voted (again with misgivings) for Kamala Harris, my pitiful hope to help her win. Any sane person can only see Trump as the worst human being to have been a president and the worst president we have endured in our modern times, if not for the entire history of our Republic.

This lengthy preamble for my brief point: one of my brothers, (both still Republicans) could not bring himself to vote for the wretched Trump back in 2016 or again in 2024. He remains a Republican, but he cannot abide Trump's corruption, his stupidity, his narcissism, his stupidity, his cruelty, his stupidity, his criminality, his disdain for all others but himself, his stupidity, his unceasing lying and grifting and all his other miserable failings...and his stupidity.

Just as only a small portion of self-proclaimed American Christians are actually Christians, only a small number of Republicans have the courage and/or discerning (or mere disgust) to reject the stinking mound of shit that Trump is and was selling and was able to sell.*

It is. This blog has been around longer than 2008, and they have always been left. But, you are still right. Lonejustice came around not long ago, and he did the same bullshit line, “I was Republican until Trump”. And just the past two weeks, he blamed Republicans for events going back to the 1990s. He wants us to believe that Republicans carried out such attacks, yet he also didn’t care, but when Trump, who was financially backing Democrats in the 90’s, came around, then he had enough. Bullshit.

There was a turning point around 2008. W ignored free markets and bailed out the failed banks. It also became obvious he either knew the IC lied to him about WMD in Iraq or had them lie. But that might have been just W, except McCain came along to double down. Blaming Palin for his loss was a bridge too far for most Republicans. Romney was pathetic. Trump was the first President since Reagan to fight for Republican ideals on the campaign trail and in office.

"MAGA began when Trump came down the escalator to announce his candidacy on June 16, 2015. That's 10 1/4 years ago. The killer is 22. He was already 12 years old, or close to it, before MAGA was born, and lived more than half his life before he or his parents ever heard of MAGA.

"And he probably knew how to shoot by then, too: small-town Utahns start shooting, and hunting, in middle school. He may have already started to get in touch with his non-standard sexuality, or started to despise his parents' beliefs, or both, by then, without any help at all from MAGA.

"By the way, is there any evidence that his parents are MAGA? [Pictures of them wearing the hat, for instance?] Everyone agrees they're conservative Republicans, but they're also Mormons. They may well be the kind of conservative Republicans who find Trump vulgar and only vote for him reluctantly, if at all."
