Asks Victor Davis Hanson, in "Was the Current Madness Birthed in the University? America’s descent into violence and moral chaos—from Kirk’s assassination to suppressed crime truths—traces back to the toxic ideologies nurtured in universities" (American Greatness).
Is the hatred caused by the media... Or is the promulgator the Democratic Party and the Left... Or, finally, is the culprit for the madness found ultimately in the elite university?... Why, in the aftermath of the murder of Charlie Kirk, are so many teachers, professors, and college-graduate bureaucrats so eager to gloat over and cheer his death?... Hundreds of thousands of students emerge from campuses not just indoctrinated with contempt for the Western tradition and American exceptionalism, and not just often thousands of dollars in debt from inflated tuition, but also poorly educated by the standards that once defined education. The working classes and high school graduates, supposedly the losers of our society, are not those who are dividing the country. They are not often advocating violence or trying to use any means necessary to overturn the established order. But so often the products of the modern university are doing just that....
Interesting... but Charlie Kirk's assassin dropped out of college after one semester. He'd been a promising student and won a scholarship to study engineering, yet he veered off that path quickly and into an electrical apprenticeship program. Wouldn't that put him in with the "working classes and high school graduates" — "supposedly the losers of our society" who "are not those who are dividing the country"? Perhaps the assassin had contempt for the very "teachers, professors, and college-graduate bureaucrats" who have been "so eager to gloat over and cheer" his action. We don't know, do we?
The assassin is contemptible — a murderer. But whether his motive aligns with the ideology of the "teachers, professors, and college-graduate bureaucrats" who cheer and gloat, they are contemptible — quite independently. They need to stand in the light and take criticism for the ideas they've taught and enforced.

The Left Wing Activists in the media and the Democrat party leaders, on top of let wing academia!
It's academic deconstruction - the opposite of Derrida's original.
Both find that systems are not self-founding, essentially that there's nothing supporting them of the sort that the systems imagine. Derrida, who deconstructs systems that he loves, finds the dynamics that keep the system running nevertheless; the academic left simply concludes that the system has to be destroyed since nothing founds it.
I remember going over my freshman orientation and degree curriculum with my university's academic advisor. I remember two things vividly: her reaction to my ROTC curriculum and participation (her body language indicated discomfort), and my reaction to the fact the university had 1 semester of women's studies or african-american studies as a core requirement.
I asked her why an economics student was required to choose a semester of either, and her response made it sound like a semester of either wasn't enough, in her opinion.
It was at that point I realized universities had been converged, and that was 26 years ago.

The emmys didn't even mention Charlie Kirk - no surprise. A reminder to cancel Hollywood.
I've not seen anyone else mention this, but I wonder if it's a little bit like John Hinckley trying to impress Jodi Foster. I suspect the assassin was doing this to prove his love to his trans "roommate".

…Whitehouse, Markey…
"who cheer and gloat, they are contemptible — quite independently. They need stand in the light and take criticism" Yes. But they're not used to it. The very fact that so many lefties gloated indicates that they still assumed they're in charge, that violence and its celeberation will just be their tool and won't hurt them. But the rules are changing. Normies are responding. The resulting resentment and anger only makes the lefty violent impulse more dangerous.
How "independent" left culture is from the killer's motives remains to be seen. Several online interpretations plausibly link him to the recesses of a certain kind of nihilistic gamer culture, not necessarily garden variety progressivism.

My cousin's son is one of California's traditionally ag schools and it's true, the indoctrination is relentless and mandatory. Complete with blue hair queer nutso professors.
Fortunately the students have AI to write their woke essays for them.
I don't think they're teaching that men can be women at trade school, much less in apprenticeships, but I could be wrong.
If the universities were the only place for young people to be inculcated with these ideas, then it might be more defensible to say that this murderer was simply listening to the evil voices in his head.
But it's not. We are, what, three generations? More? in to the schools of education having been taken over by the ideas Hanson describes. The current crop of college students are the children and even grandchildren of those first led down this path in large numbers. And of course that means they are being taught by the children, at least, of that same generation.
And of course the same is true for school kids. When my younger two were in high school, I volunteered in the teacher work room, helping teachers prep materials for their classes. One teacher had me make a classroom set of copies of long except from Zinn's An Alternate History of the United States - in his case, I do believe intending to use it as a second perspective beyond what was in the textbook. But considering that the textbook already contained plenty of what we might call anti-American material, I question whether something so explicitly and solely anti-American was necessary.
And this was in suburban Houston. I can't imagine what the kids in the metro centers of California are being taught. Also in suburban Houston, going back to when our oldest was a small child there more than 20 years ago - the culture of participation trophies had already entirely taken over children's sports. No one should ever be disappointed, ever. Feelings over all.

It has been decades since anyone to the right of now can go make a presentation and even moderate political positions on a college campus without massive security to protect them from the students on almost all of our college campuses.
The culture that controls, our universities is inherently, intolerant, and violent. Our universities are evil institutions run by evil people, and they have been for decades.
There's no need to feign cruel neutrality on this topic. It's mind-numbingly obvious and supported by at least a decade of evidence. The universities have literally become the training grounds and enthusiastic support groups for leftist domestic terrorism. Not just "activism". Terrorism. Including riots, burning and destruction, assault and battery, and yes, political assassination.
Ann, I think Hanson's bigger point is not what motivated this crazy young man, but what motivated supposedly educated individuals to cheer the killing of Kirk (and to less extent killing the UHC exec and Wesley Lepatner in NY). People who got their degrees but emerged f-ing moral idiots. And some of the procfessors. Yikes. It's sickening.
data shows masses of young people are graduating high school without basic math and writing skills. some of these graduates barley know how to read.
who controls that? --> Democrats.
These students know all about Pride flags, leftist rage/ leftist bullet casing memes, Trump hate and fighting for Restorative Justice...Socialism and victimhood and all that BS.

If you come up a few credits short of a degree is university off the hook for radicalizing?
Interesting... but Charlie Kirk's assassin dropped out of college after one semester.
VDH attributes to universities what K-12 teachers have been doing for God knows how long. The truth is this kid had up to 13 years of DNC indoctrination via the 250 days a year he was in government schools. The mandatory and Federally-financed K-12 schools are about to get a whole lot more scrutiny from the DOJ now that tens of thousands of public school teachers have self-identified as soulless fans of murder. "Fan" is short for fanatic and there is no more fanatical presence in this country than the rabid Left.
Chris “Liver Lips” Murphy has been a stain on humanity for several years now. Vote the corksoaker out!!!
The mistake is focusing on the act, motivations, etc.
Focus on the mainstream response. If you take away all of the Trump Administration-generated tributes and reverence, the message being received by the average citizen is that Kirk was a man who spread dangerous ideas who targeted vulnerable groups.
Once again, the sinister message being received by the next assassin is "You're murderous rage is justified. But don't murder."
We can't stop all the crazies across the spectrum, we can only make it less ideologically profitable to do what they want to do.
Ann, I think Hanson's bigger point is not what motivated this crazy young man, but what motivated supposedly educated individuals to cheer the killing of Kirk
Yes, exactly. A killer can be expected to be, at least to some extent, mentally disturbed. But how do we explain the celebrations?
"But how do we explain the celebrations?"
A sub-culture that validates and awards such celebrations. And a large amount of that sub-culture was created in America's education system.
I certainly agree that the madness traces back to toxic ideologies nurtured in universities. It now permeates mainstream media and internet sites. One need never set foot on a campus to know what the "progressive" hive mind expects you to say and do in most circumstances, and the social pressure to conform makes dissent costly even outside academic settings. That is why so many so-called “educators” are now celebrating—and even encouraging—violence against those who fail to conform to the “correct” ideology.
There's a parallel with the 1970s. You have the campus culture and the broader youth culture. The Lumpenstudentenkultur if you like. Around every campus were the drop-outs, recent grads, wannabees, activists, street people, drifters and runaways doing their thing. They picked up what was coming out of the universities at second or third hand. In contrast to the students, they weren't organized and were more likely to be alienated, anomic "loose cannons" or "lone wolves."
One difference is that back then the students and graduates who were part of organizations sometimes performed terror acts of their own. Another difference is that everything is spread out over the internet now. Off-campus alternative communities may not be as much of a physical thing now. They are tied together by the internet now.
I agree with Althouse. I don’t think the answer to the shooter’s radicalization is that easy to pin on the university.
Take specifically, the first part of the quote. I too find it disturbing that the individual scribed comments on the ammunition. No doubt he got the idea from games and media, which got the idea from the military that did this in war. For soldiers in the battlefield, the writing is a way to build moral, which is necessary when doing what the military has to do. However, it really isn’t a healthy behavior. That’s not to say the military should ban the practice or games and media prevented from using the idea. It is simply to understand the root of this behavior. And to note that what VDH mentions at the start doesn’t follow with what he says next about the radicalization.
VDH and Thomas Sowell are both national treasures.
Every politician, at every level should be put to the question in public on their views about Kirk, his assassination, going to war against Citizens, and Antifa
Public employees (and some public facing private employees, eg Docs and nurses) who voiced joy at Kirk's murder should get to spend more time with their families

They've been prepping this since the mid 60s, and probably recruiting the provacateurs since the New Deal. Even when we just had advisors in 'Nam, there were creeps calling up the parents of men killed there and saying, "He got what he deserved. He was a paid killer" .
This is hardly new.

Well said.
it really is less about him - and about where he was radicalized.... and how.
One simple answer is he was a convert. Allow me to wildly speculate, but if it's true that his family was a normal mormon family in a mormon community. Somewhat conservative (LDS church has it's own agenda) background, he gets to college and has an event (repressed sexuality, drugs, whatev) and becomes a convert. Converts are generally the most extreme types, because they are going 100 percent opposite in their beliefs and they need to rationalize it somehow. And so he didn't need four plus years of college. I suspect the same thing happened with Crooks.

Boiled down - this is a battle between Truth and Lies.
Charlie was murdered - based on LIES and fake quotes attributed to him.
The Loyal and evil Democratic LEFT are stellar at building fake quotes. ... and spreading lies.
People with severe illnesses often diagnose themselves wrongly and then latch onto responses they think address their core problems.
We do this emotionally much more than physically. We have a hard time or are deadset against addressing our real emotional issues, but they are never as suppressed as we think they are rhey are just redirected. Those with severe issues redirect all the more which is why social influences can shape their perceived "problem" and provide easy paths of response that releases the pressures their real issues cause. Good psychologists can help this but psychhology has been captured by ideology so far too often indulges distracted coping.
Learning the real root of every one of our emotions is a key step into truly having ownership of our self.
It should be obvious, even if taken in isolation, that a nationwide system of public and private education that is aligned 90 - 95% with one political party, in a nation of 2-party alignment that is approximately 50%-50%, is out of balance. It would be the same if the educators were 95% conservative: Out of balance, and doing damage by not providing an education that is representative of real life.
When taken out of isolation, this fact should have been a danger signal flashing red, for the past 50 years. But it's been taken as normal background noise, even as grotesque drag queens were put in front of toddlers that were encouraged to tuck dollar bills into garters.
Life is too comfortable in the US, too easy. Parents have been lulled into thinking a teacher's credentials were all the guardrail that was needed. Conditioning works on parents, too.
I’m coming to the realization that people like Soros are just as destructive to a society as Hitler was. Not in the same way, of course, and not as quickly, but they have a completely corrosive effect on once functioning nations. I am hopeful they can all be thoroughly shamed, disabled, and set out to pasture. Why has it taken so long for us to confront this evil?

You say you want individuals to take responsibility.
The problem is that it is systemic. This is a function of the nature of the left. You are dodging the fundamental nature of the problem at hand by pretending it is just individuals.
They explicitly work as a collective and they enforce collective judgment and responsibility on everyone else.
Then when one of their crazies expectedly kills someone they demand individual responsibility.
You are just participating in the clown nose on clown nose off act.
There are clues
I was going to engage in some both-sides, and I think I still will - but the sides are not the same.
So. Here on this blog, and I'm sure out in the wider world, there are those on the right who are saying that we are if not already IN a civil war, headed for one - and some are bellicose as hell about it, in GWB "Bring it on!" fashion. I think maybe that's the analog of the left's celebrations, victim-blaming, and calls for more of the same.
But whereas the reactions from the left start in the mainstream and extend to the extreme left, ranging from "more in sorrow than in anger," "it's so unfortunate that Kirk was so divisive" to outright glee, this particular overreaction (God, please let it be an overreaction) from that one segment of the right is the reaction of the cornered animal that finally decides it has no option but to turn and fight for its life.
These reactions are not even similar. The "civil war" people on the right are on the defensive - they're not calling for kill lists or for the like-minded to form themselves into military units and attack. The "he had it coming" people on the left are, at best, just trying to pin the murder on either a crazy or a "MAGAt," as everybody's favorite appalling voice from the Althouse left says - all the while maintaining that their side is the side of peaceful dialogue and tolerance as that side spends its very next breath denouncing its opponents as "fascists." Not the same.
But possibly springing from the same roots - the unanchored postmodernist "what is Truth?" education to which almost all of us were subject.

Sorry, I did read to end and didn't mean to sound like I was correcting (I agree 100% with you). Poorly worded. Personally, I was very, very sad, but not shocked, that some nut killed Kirk. J Scott is on to something with the conversion angle, and my own free-lance, uncredentialed psychoanalysis is that the shooter was sexually attracted to the victim and could only resolve his feelings through an act of violence.

The ethical theory of relativity.
In my little town, they held a vigil for Charlie last night, and over 4000 people showed up. The leftists are crying, calling us a cult, asking why we didn't have vigils for the recent school shootings in Colorado. When we answer back that THEY can start a vigil and many of us would be happy to attend, they get mad and start calling us the third reich. There IS NO uniting with people who hate so much they are pissed off at a memorial vigil, and the people who attended. This is in New Jersey mind you....(the Conservative side in Ocean County) All they want is hate and violence. I am done trying to be nice.
I'll tell you what I think is happening. There is a cultural shift underway, but it's not driven by the grassroots, although that is probably an honest and substantial component of it.
But if you notice, there is also quite a bit of institutional nudging going on right now. People that were formerly free to be obnoxiously leftist, maybe even to the point of being toxic, are no longer safe, and they are finding out swiftly and publicly. And they're shocked that they've lost their protection.
I think the business world has woken up and their machinery for sensing public sentiment, which has long been hibernating as a lesser function, is now pointing out that the Wrong Point of View is bad for business, and that the Wrong Point of View is not nice, and is not actually shared by a dominant slice of the consumer marketplace - quite the contrary. Maybe the cumulative effect of the bad corporate decision-making that went Woke and then Broke, has had a bracing effect on the corporate class.
I watched a video by Dad Saves America who has consistently criticizes our educational system, that universities have become a fifth column who take money to attack the society which funds them, and bluntly states state universities need to be shut down.
I am becoming inclined to agree with him. And I say that as someone who believes strongly in higher education. However (and I should leave a comment to his recent video) there isn't a clear causal relationship between left-wing ideology on college campuses and what the shooter did. What one could argue is that colleges and universities are churning out a toxic and destructive ideology which spreads outward (like a gas cloud) from campus into the larger society. And people like the shooter (who left university) nevertheless imbibe that toxin.
The Emmy's - no mention of Charlie Kirk.
Cancel Hollywood.
My theory (without, of course, “evidence”) is that bombing out of engineering school at Utah St. is what really drove the assassin crazy. Same thing happened to my nephew, who bombed out of engineering school at the University of Illinois in one semester. Like Robinson, my nephew was a high school star in math and science, winning all the trophies. Nephew returned home to live with Mom and Dad. He’s in his late 30s and he’s still struggling to find his way in life. Why the assassin focused his anger on Kirk is… well… a long story… I’ll tell another time.
"It never ceases to amaze me how, once the left settles on its preferred narrative, it cannot let it go. To this day, there are people on the left who cling to the debunked conspiracy theory that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election. The latest fake news that the left seems unwilling to let go of is the fact that Charlie Kirk’s killer, Tyler Robinson, is a radicalized leftist. I am still seeing social media posts from leftists — random accounts and highly-followed accounts — claiming that Robinson was MAGA or a groyper, just because his family was conservative. "

“His family has collectively told investigators that he subscribed to left-wing ideology and even more so in these last couple of years,” Kash Patel revealed."
Patel also disclosed that Robinson had sent a chilling message before the assassination, making clear his hatred for Kirk’s beliefs. “He had a text message exchange… in which he claimed that he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for.”
“These are factually accurate investigatory findings by the FBI that we’ve handed over to the local authorities and the federal authorities to make their prosecutorial decisions,” Patel continued. “But I believe in this instance of such public importance, the public has a right to know, and I’ve told you I’m committed to transparency and that’s what I’m doing here today.”
Not that hive leftists will accept that. They will not.
"it's so unfortunate that Kirk was so divisive"

The left has their opinions.
These opinions are not in alignment.
Therefore, the right is divisive.

Assassin (hashish-eater) is derogatory for a Muslim sect. You might as well have called them retards.
Close-minded hatred is not an ideology. Frankfurt School Cultural Marxists had an ideology. Their successors are too stupid to articulate it and react with rage when challenged. One year in college after years of public school indoctrination was probably enough to bring the assassin’s rage to a head.
I think a lot of the deserved to die interpretations are in fact complaints about the wild soap opera explosion surrounding the killing. Poor beautiful widow and children as political assets.
Or his ideas deserved to die.
There's no advantage in claiming in the midst of a wild soap opera success that they guy should have been shot.
Some do but it's unlikely to be many.

Was Charlie Kirk drop out?
Is he being posthumous flunked by professors?
I wouldn't be so quick to assume that one semester could not have radicalized someone. I went to St. John's College, admittedly a highly atypical college. One of my classmates read Lucretius, found him totally convincing, abandoned whatever wishy-washy beliefs she had before, and became a materialist atheist hedonist.
@rhhardin, perhaps you might consider that the 'soap opera' meme may all be in your head, in the form of bubbles. It's a poor and inaccurate meme - maybe over-influenced by the things you watch on television.

Simplest explanation is that he failed out over some personal failure, like inadequate discipline or study habits. "Electrician" sounds like the exact thing a kid in that situation might gesture at to keep his family off his back without completely torching his sense of identity as a Smart Kid.
Senator Chris Murphey(D) asshole alert:

The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent. "
Chris Murphey thinks this is dark.
There's nothing to figure out. The man is obviously psychotic.
This is not obvious to me. If he was getting information (from politicians, legacy news, and leftist influencers) that told him that conservatives/Republicans were fascists, Nazis, racists, sexists and an existential threat to our country, then murder is rational. Heroic.
People have been talking, with all seriousness, about their fear that Trump/the right is going to put them into camps. They talk about illegal immigrants being "disappeared" and warn each other that it will happen to them next. Swim in that cesspool and murder is logical.
I don't think the people feeding this with lies and misinformation are psychotic either, but I won't bet against most of them having ASPD.
His pschosis was brought on by the radical right.
Clue - his MAGA upbringing, the righteous anger, grievence mongering and willful ignorance that’s baked into that world view.
P.S. I believe my classmate is still a materialist atheist hedonist - she certainly was last I heard.
And I would very much like to see a list of courses the killer took in his one semester.
Which reminds me: Pol Pot's ideologist Khieu Samphan had a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne. I would love to know who his dissertation director was, and what he thought of his protegé, assuming he (call him Kettle?) lived long enough to see how Pot and the gange turned out. Checking the details on Wikipedia, I see that Samphan is still alive in jail at 94, illustrating the old saw "the good die young".

Seems like for more than a year I have been seeing things like mobs breaking windows and trying to destroy venues where conservative speakers had events on campuses. Some speaker at Middlebury in VT had a neck injury due to violence. All this was justified as free expression. The police just stood around and watched. We let the mob run wild. I guess it is human nature to not get involved until it is too late. We would be in a better place if the insanity had been stopped.
It was a slow motion riot. I think Kirk was shot due to this normalization. If stupid children don’t get a reaction they go one step further until they do get one. Who radicalized the shooter? Half the country. If this particular murderer had not been born, someone would have taken his place, like he took the Trump shooter and the ceo shooters place. The sordid details of his life are irrelevant, really. The left wing shooters are all the same, all fungible.

That is exactly accurate and correct.
You folks might have a point if the assassin grew up in Marin County raised by wealthy activist lawyer parents indoctrinated and sociology at UC Berkeley. Instead he grew up in idyllic small town conditions with a loving middle class Christian family.
"I believe my classmate is still a materialist atheist hedonist."
OK, but is she hot?
Dear Killer of Charlie Kirk,
What is it about MAGA family values that you were raised with that led you to murder?
Was it the stockpiling and fetishizing of firearms? When a tool for killing becomes the center of your personality, can it lead to wanting to use violence to deal with all your problems? Was it because at its center, the MAGA cult has a corrupt charlatan leading angry, gullible people towards his own corrupt ends?
Enclosed is some money for the commissary. I hear if you crush chee-itz crackers, they make a mighty fine breading for cooking over your sterno can.
We don't know everything yet. We do know about the leftist bullet casings.
We do know authorities have captured his texts, and those texts prove he was a leftist who wanted to kill Charlie.
We know leftists have built a large false reality filled with false quotes attributed to Charlie.
There is a massive investigation going on.
His grammy loved him. (shock) his grandmother and parents were republicans. They obviously allowed their son to live in their basement with another boy. They obviously were kept in the dark about his radicalized leftist views.

Yes.

You're repeating yourself, but yes.

Yes.

Seconding Peachy here.
Universities have indeed pushed extremely noxious ideas, while forgetting the first rule of critical thinking: the ability to correctly and completely reiterate the arguments of those with whom you disagree.
Progressives have long tarred Kirk with every bigotry known to humankind, with liberal splashes of nazi and fascist. And trumpeted it all not only through universities, but also legacy and social media.
Without even a hint of irony, they insist he is divisive and a purveyor of hate speech.
I've been going around with a cousin in this — she is central casting's idea of an AWFL — who told me that Kirk's insistence that the Civil Rights Act was a huge mistake proves he is a racist, and what he said would be offensive to every black person.
What that really proved is that she had no idea of either Kirk's argument, nor had ever heard of Thomas Sowell.
Progressives' use of nazi, fascist, hate speech, racist, homophobe, misogynist, etc wherever an argument belongs are responsible for egging on this mentally ill young man.
So much more than just the universities.
Narr: Haven't seen her in years, but she's 72 years old, give or take a year.
I read that his one semester at university was during Covid and done via Zoom, so no in person classes at all. He seems unlikely to have even met new friends that might have influenced him during this brief failed attempt at an education. It looks likely that he became radicalized via gaming and online subculture. Of course, much of what he absorbed originated in the universities, even if he didn't specifically get it from that source.
But, I got shooters…
FTR the University surrendered to the Anti-War attackers in the 1960s. They promoted them to the top of authority without a hesitation. From that time on attacking political conservatives was celebrated and promoted.
Now University students face a conspiracy to promote violence against conservatives as if it’s a virtue.
Karen Attiah, formerly of the Washington Post, sacked for misquoting the assassinated victim, or perhaps more accurately, mis-attributing something to him. Declined to resign with a severance, so she was fired instead with nothing.
Probably not a viable libelous offense, either, so she wasn't fired because of some risk of litigation. A few months ago, any protest over such a mis-attribution would have been ignored.
The business side of business is taking action.

The first therapy group I attended after the 2016 election of DJT, a gay florist in the group spent over 20 minutes going bananas over it, claiming that Trump was going to come get him. Round him up, you know. I kept my mouth shut but afterwards rebuked the therapist for losing control of the facilitation of the group. DJT's election had nothing to do with the gay florist's cocaine habit. At least I don't think so.
@Freder, you should read a little more carefully. She put something into quotes that was not spoken, and then attributed it to Kirk in a misleading way. Funny how you think Freedom of Speech includes protective exemptions for being wrong.
Of course, I'm sure the Post will appreciate your corrections so that the out-of-work reporter can be reinstated. Do you know who to call?

That right there is a lie.
Are there people who don't understand that even an accurate paraphrase of someone's ideas becomes a lie if you put it in quotation marks? And that even if he said all those words in that order, if you left out any parts and did not substitute an ellipsis (. . .) to mark the gap, your ''quotation' is again a lie?

If you listen to the content of his words, he strays pretty far from Jesus’s actual teachings, and strayed into that Ayn Rand style, new NEW testament Christianity in which Jesus devolves into a selfish prick who shills for the rich and wants the poor and displaced to go fuck themselves.

Freder also wants you to know that people celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk shouldn’t lose their jobs because of the first amendment.
Kirk made his mark “debating” enthusiastic but dumb college freshmen until he found his 30 second clip showing how he “won”
Kirk debated all comers. He debated college professors, and podcast hosts, politicians, reporters and pundits. A partial list is here.
He just got back from debating students and professors at Cambridge University in England.
His focus of course was on the minds of young people, giving them facts and logic which were clearly missing from their education. But he always treated them as equals and adults.
When asked why he was on college campuses, he pointed out these people were VOTERS, as was he, and democracy required the discussion of issues within the voting public.
That basic idea was too radical for the leftists, who continue to yak about "saving our democracy" while cheering his assassination.
The very fact that so many lefties gloated indicates that they still assumed they're in charge
For most of my life, the Republicans have been the free speech party. Cancel culture, punishing speakers, that was a creature of the left. People on the right learned to watch what we say. You could lose your job.
There was no organizational push on the right to punish free speakers on the left. Not really. That's why so many people on the left -- thousands of people, tens of thousands -- feel this freedom to cheer the murder of an innocent man. They've never been punished for their speech before.
This is particularly bad coming from universities and public schools. The left has a near monopoly over education. That's why so many children think punishing a speaker is fine.
I think people on the left need to find out that murdering a speaker is not fine. I think thousands of people -- particularly those in universities and schools -- who cheered this death? They ought to lose their jobs. Clean house.
And Republicans ought to be fierce in blowing up the teachers unions and the leftist indoctrination camps. Bring free speech to the universities. That should be the legacy of Charlie Kirk.

There’s a pattern worth noting: some right-wing leaders and media figures have defended or normalized violent actors (Rittenhouse), pushed for pardons/leniency, and used language that celebrates force. That won’t explain every attack, but it helps explain how a climate gets created where violence becomes thinkable. Violence is never acceptable — and certain political leaders and primetime talking heads should stop making it more likely.
Hahahahaha! A shill ease, you got the stuff, you wonderful, empty headed hack.
Rittenhouse was not a 'violent actor': he was re-acting to homicidal violence aimed at him. The three men he shot were all trying to kill him. He didn't start anything.
some right-wing leaders and media figures have defended or normalized violent actors (Rittenhouse)
Rittenhouse acted in self-defense, as was affirmed by a trial by jury:
A jury weighed two counts of homicide, one count of attempted homicide, and two counts of reckless endangerment, and found Rittenhouse not guilty on all charges.
I've learned we don't believe in free speech anymore. Is trial by jury out too?
DR Weevil would you defend/ admire the purple haired tranny who shows up to a Charlie Kirk rally martyr rally with a rifle? Trans person is there to protect the Fredricks and Hollywood, across from the event.
What's that smell? Foul-mouthed liar wants me to answer a stupidly disingenuous question? Pretends that a totally non-violent Charlie Kirk candlelight vigil is equivalent to a bunch of rioters burning businesses. Forgets that Rittenhouse pissed off the people who tried to kill him by bringing a fire extinguisher to their riot and using it to put out the flaming grocery cart (or dumpster? one or the other) they were trying to set a gas station on fire with. The very words in which the question was asked is a demonstration that the asker is evil, stupid, and deeply dishonest. But then we already knew that from his nom de plume and previous comments.
Leftist propagandizing begins in K-12.
I’ll take that as a super charged,

I've read this a few times and it's not sinking in. I can't follow it for some reason.
Based on some of your prior comments regarding the reactions to Charlie Kirk's murder I think you're feigning misunderstanding because you just don't like the implication of what Professor Althouse wrote. If you really need the help, then let me break it down.
Who assassinated Charlie Kirk, or even if he was assassinated, doesn't matter. It could have been a Tran-tifa hanger-on, a right-winger upset he was too eager to engage with liberals, the mighty Mossad, or even death by illness, accident, or natural disaster. Based on our prior experience the same people who vilified him in life would have gloated and celebrated over his death, and did so. In fact you can see people on this very comment board simultaneously claiming Kirk was responsible for creating the environment that lead to his assassination and attempting to prove his assassin was not in any of the groups that Kirk supposedly targeted with "hate speech". The reaction is in this case independent of the action.
Something changed in the early '10s. There had been, at least since the late '80s, a sense that all the "Lit Crit Shit" Critical Theory stuff was a little extreme and that mostly what was being said was people following the "hyperbole spiral" to out-radical each other in graduate seminars. Some undergrads would maybe get excited about it, but most found it kind of tedious and over the top. Suddenly this changed, and the undergraduates started showing up already knowing all the post-structuralist, identity politics cant and acting like they actually believe it.
My hunch is that there had been kind of a protective barrier between college and high school, so that the weaker, less-developed minds in the latter weren't getting exposed to the most extreme theoretical ideas. (Or maybe they were resistant to them because they were living primarily in bourgeoise happiness with parents who loved them, enjoying the happiness and success of America in the '90s and the patriotism revival of the early 2000s).
But then I think that social media, particularly "friend group" group texts and chats made going off to college much less of a true separate from previous friends and peers that it had been. Terrible ideas spread downwards from freshman to high school students, who were less able to think independently and more likely to accept what an older and presumably better-informed person told them. At the same time, the economy had gone into the toilet in 2008 and not rebounded at all, and so incoming students were more willing to listen to critiques of the society that was no longer providing them (and their parents) with a good living.
The leftists killed Kirk for the same reason they call us racists and fascists.
When the left engages in rational debate they lose. Charlie Kirk was particularly good at debating them and he took it n all comers. He was polite and respectful to all.
The left has been losing ground for years now and this is the result. They turn to violence because they lost the debate.
Rittenhouse went to the riot with a fire extinguisher to try to reduce the damage to his home town, and a gun for self-protection from anyone in the mob who might want to kill him, as it turned out more than one of them did.
Can anyone think of any legitimate reason why a purple-haired tranny would want to show up at a Kirk vigil at all, and what possible reason there could be for bringing a gun, other than to kill or intimidate one or more of the participants? We all know that these candlelight vigils are in fact entirely non-violent.

Chuck wants you to know that shooting Charlie Kirk was OK because Kyle Rittenhouse defended himself against people that tried to kill him.
So……once again, no, you would not defend the open carry trans provocateur provoking violence but the bad faith acting teenager in fatigues and a rifle is groovy as hell at the Floyd protest and totes keeping the peace. THIS is consistent and sort of a little microcosm of a muddy thinking, good tribal soldier, slogging through the culture wars.
I’m not relitigating the Rittenhouse verdict. Same with Zimmerman. My point is that beyond the courtroom, leaders and media voices turned him into a celebrity. The same with Abbott pardoning Daniel Perry- a jury slam with premeditated plans of murdering a BLM protester on Facebook- yet ultimately the victim. That’s the concern — not whether a jury made its decision, but whether celebrating and rewarding political violence makes more of it likely.
"Violence is never acceptable..."
If you're attacked by a leftist for saying something they don't like, you're expected to accept your beating (or death) without response because the left considers their violence to be speech and your speech to be violence.
Foul-mouthed foul-named liar can't stop lying about what I think. I didn't say I wouldn't support a purple-haired provocateur, I pointed out that the supposedly parallel situations are entirely different. So different that supporting Rittenhouse does not at all require me to support some violent swine openly threatening a peaceful candlelight vigil.
Calling Rittenhouse a 'provocateur' is of course another lie: he put out fires being set by the actual provocateurs who were trying to destroy his home town.

The BLM protests where Rittenhouse shot a child molester and two other criminals was a riot where the participants were burning businesses and attacking people.
The Kirk vigil was a bunch of people grieving for a god man who was killed by people who don’t like to have rational conversation.
The fact that the leftists compare a peaceful vigil to a violent protest is what demonstrates that they are just pieces of shit.

It's going to be interesting seeing this investigation unfold. I'm seeing that there are new vectors appearing, information on social media discussions before the event, predictions beforehand and so on, rumors about other romantic partners, all within the alphabet community, especially trans/furries.
I had a family member living in Salt Lake City less than 10 years ago, I helped them move there and visited a few times. The Mormon church culture there permeates, and slightly dominates, but it's very insular, and within that well-ordered city there is a second prevailing culture, the counter culture. It would seem there are almost no normal, middle-class people. They're either clean-cut Mormon offspring, or blue haired, pierced, tatted-up types complete with enormous ear plugs. It was all you seemed to see, when you were out and about: One, or the other, both extreme.
I've always heard stories about Mormons making the life-changing decision to leave the religious fold, the ex-communicating, the shunning, really tough. I know some that have done it and have been able to establish a normal middle class life with an outside partner, but it's really hard. There are some that fail. Mormons are all about family, all about a family's mutual reliance, and being cut off is catastrophic.
It really seems to be shaping up as a story about a Mormon kid that went 'bad', got turned loose, and moved over to the next biggest group, trying to find a place he could be part of.

Notice how quickly my point about celebrating violence afterward keeps getting buried under rehashes of the trial or hypotheticals. That’s the problem. That’s what makes more violence thinkable, and that’s the part no one here seems willing to address.

You keep making up these cartoon scenarios in which you demand others to share your delusions.

Violence is never acceptable except, of course, where violence is acceptable. There's at least one time travel story where people go back in time to kill Hitler and have to stand in line between the velvet ropes to take their turn. A fairly common story trope, and political violence most approve of...
No one complained too much about the treatment afforded Mussolini or the Ceaușescus, death by violent means without trial.
Whether the violence was justified or not is usually determined by the final winners. Based on the final outcome, I suspect that both winners and losers at the final outcome from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand considered that particular act of violence unjustified.
What's this focus on "motive" of Kirk's murderer? It's cold-blooded murder; assassin's motive is irrelevant. Tellingly though, murderer left note indicated he had "opportunity" to murder Kirk - now that's weird, and that's what should have NYT's full attention -- who all enabled and assisted this guy??
it fits the other members of this cell structure,
but Charlie Kirk's assassin dropped out of college after one semester
When you have a template you can crank out product without so much as a second thought.
So, here's a good example of how deranged leftist thought has permeated normal American society. Aggie, who is a reliably conservative voice, feels that being clean-cut is as extreme as the danger-haired face-piercers covered with tattoos.
"They're either clean-cut Mormon offspring, or blue haired, pierced, tatted-up types complete with enormous ear plugs. It was all you seemed to see, when you were out and about: One, or the other, both extreme."
Is this fear of a clean-shaven face a remnant of the old shitty hippie mindset, the more contemporary non-stop offensive against White men, or some other figment of leftist ideology? In any case, normies don't consider "clean cut" an insult, but libtards do. We often don't recognize how deeply the leftist brainwashing works its way into normal minds.
Our local democratic party leadership is as bonkers as any progressive liberal campus's woke professors. Full-on TDS AWFLs and their minions, as inarticulate as Kamala Harris, incapable of discussing political issues without resorting to party propaganda "No Kings! No Kings! Fascists! Young people are recruited to monitor and post on local social media, policing comments for political correctness and not "flood zone" with any independent thoughts based on critical thinking skills.
There's nothing to figure out. The man is obviously psychotic.
OK. Now explain the millions of leftists who are celebrating what he did.
Is the fired writer the one that said Kirk thought black women to be dumb? That was based on criticism of KJB's opinion that even Gorsuch, and half the country, thought laughable. So the media's position is if you criticize ANY black person, subject to the Sowell exception, you're a racist. No Sale.

Well..... I don't think Mormons have often been called 'normal', except maybe in a context within the church or generally in Utah. That's not the same as being considered abnormal, but my experience is that their appearance is one that would be considered conventional, in a Leave it to Beaver episode. And if you put a SLC Mormon family, the kind I'm talking about, in a modern local supermarket setting, they would stand out because they're not unkempt slobs with stubbles, in skateboard shorts and flip flops. There's not a thing wrong with that at all - it's just that it stood out in a very weird juxtaposition with the blue haired set.

"Cancel culture is an awful, ugly tool that the left wielded with glee for many years over masks, vax and okay signs.

Please use the comments forum to respond to the post. Don't fight with each other. Be substantive... or interesting... or funny. Comments should go up immediately... unless you're commenting on a post older than 2 days. Then you have to wait for us to moderate you through. It's also possible to get shunted into spam by the machine. We try to keep an eye on that and release the miscaught good stuff. We do delete some comments, but not for viewpoint... for bad faith.
