Writes Shawn McCreesh, in "Donald Trump’s Big Gay Government/On the town with the A-Gays of Washington, who have never been happier to be out, proud and Republican" (NYT)(free-access link).
"In 2015, back when the Republican establishment was still trying to thwart Mr. Trump, [Department of Energy official Charles] Moran said that he and some other gay Republicans he knew became intrigued by the brash New Yorker’s history of saying nice things about gay rights.... Mr. Trump initially arrived in Washington as a true outsider; he had to draw from the disparate parts of the old G.O.P. he had vanquished in order to staff his government. This time around, he has his own establishment. And it turns out that the MAGA establishment has a lot more openly gay men than the Republican establishment that came before it.... He allowed gay people to join Mar-a-Lago when other clubs in Palm Beach still discriminated. One associate of his said that in the period when Mr. Trump was preparing to become a presidential candidate, he privately explained his thinking on gay-related policy issues, such as marriage equality, this way: 'I love the gays. They pay the most for the weddings.'"

There have always been Gay Republicans and Gay Conservatives. Nobody cares what you do in the bedroom. Just keep it in the bedroom.
If you want to be "Professional Gay Man" and carry around a big sign saying "I love Cock" go be a Democrat. If you want to be a normal person who's just a Gay, be a Republican.
Transgender trends? Hardly. There has always been a tolerance, but no rational cause for celebration.
…there goes that deliberate conflation of gay and transgender. remind me again who the enlighteneds are?
A lot of gay people are tired of the forced teaming with the trans/queer neo-Marxist postmodernists using the LGBTQAKDBBQ+ label.
Especially so when the trans/queer types started abusing positions of public trust (teachers etc) to target peoples children with cult grooming type behavior and demanding access to women only spaces, which is objectively creepy.
Democrats continue to refuse to admit its creepy and are doubling down on calling critics bigots and -phobes for opposing sex pests and creeps hiding behind a civil rights pose.
the leader of their party continues to stoke a moral panic about transgender people.
It seems there's been a resurgence in the left using "moral panic" to discredit criticism of developments favored by progressives. It's usually used on concerns that turn out to be at least partially valid.
And it usually means their other attempts at dismissing it haven't worked.
Civil unions for all consenting adults? Political congruence ("=") was a selfie-goal. Then liberals doubled-down with no discrimination for sexual orientation (e.g. pedophilia). #NoJudgment #NoLabels #LoveWins
The NYT is outing the President for choosing, not just gay men, but 'openly' gay men to staff the government. Men with close- cropped haircuts! Why weren't we warned about this earlier?
I would love to hear the quotes from Trump "stoking a moral panic" because it sounds to me like *somebody* is stoking a moral panic, and it's not Trump, it is... wait for it... projection.
The gay promised there would be no "slippery slope". Then they came after the children. They justified mutilation with sloppy data. They claimed hormone therapy wasn't harmful.
Now they claim oppression. Pfffft.
'Moral panic?' The idea that cross-dressers should be kept out of women's sports and bathrooms is not exactly a 'moral panic.' NYT is still traumatized by Jerry Falwell, I guess.
@JIM: It wasn't the gays and lesbians. They largely believed in biological determinism over choice -- "born this way" and unable to change.
The slippery slope was a direct consequence of Obama's mandatory insurance transgender treatment in the ACA/Obamacare. Now, those with mental illnesses seeking an escape from their current issues, aka "salvation", may swing for the fences with a radical transformation. Lesbian women don't want bio man...gay men don't want a bio woman...
This is a good thing. These men are able to see 5 years into the future and see the backlash that comes.
Gay men have been able to integrate into society for all of history and this entails the ability to navigate social pressures while having notable differences in preference. A lot of this stems from the fact that they are not competition for mate selection so they start from a neutral place in dominance selection.
The L and the B have the issue positive or negative that they are exclusively and predominantly female respectively. History has a place for women who are reluctant to have children. When men are in charge the focus is on having children and growing society. When women are in charge the focus is on restricting the reproduction of lower status females so that the offspring of higher status females have more opportunities.
Men are going to be in charge for a while. That is just how the pendulum swings.
No Discrimination on the basis of race, since your race is an immutable characteristic.
No Discrimination on the basis of sex, since your sex is an immutable characteristic.
No Discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation" (what used to be called "sexual preference") because, we were told, its an immutable characteristic.
Now how do we handle Discrimination against "trans" and "non-binary" and "gender fluid" and the rest of the alphabet people? How can gender "Identity" be both fluid and an immutable characteristic?
Maybe mental illness is an immutable characteristic?
I've never understood lumping gay and trans together. Normalizing trans is the ultimate rejection of homosexuality.
"They’re overwhelmingly white and tend to have a certain kind of look. Close cropped haircuts. Windowpane suits. Golf shorts.”
So they tend to look like this: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fndqkni4d4do71.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D351913c2f8621e6164191a4b28b9a7da9252f66d

Years ago our closest friends were a gay couple. Both, sadly, have since passed away. They HATED the overt, hyper sexuality of things like Gay Parades and extreme groups. They were concerned at both the false picture painted of most gays and the backlash extreme such activities could cause.
Their wish was to simply have the same rights as any other couple. To live their lives together. I'm happy to say they achieved that.
I suspect their view of today's militant Trans movement would have nauseated them.
"If you want to be a normal person who's just a Gay, be a Republican."
What if you want to get yourself filmed taking it up your ass in the well of the United States Senate? And having a video made. And releasing that video for all the world and your parents to see.
Is that the normal kind of gay?
I don't know what a windowpane suit is, and am kind of scared to look.
I have always been entertained by the Democrats’ idea that the president, who has been a Manhattan socialite for 50 years, would somehow be freaked out by and hostile to gay people.

Gay men in Washington won't be legitimate until Barack Obama comes out of the closet.
This fits the description of the Subway hero guy. Doesn't seem like the GOP type to me.
You don't have the #1 show on broadcast TV without acquiring a lot of gay associates, helpers, executives and friends along the way. He's always had pretty moderate politics when it came to hot button issues. I was happy when Rick Grenell signed on to Trump 1 because he's a bright guy and was well known in CA politics, especially in Palm Springs, where we lived at the time. They didn't make a big deal out of it like Biden's team did with his gay hires.
@Narr: "I don't know what a windowpane suit is, and am kind of scared to look."
A subtle windowpane suit can be quite tasteful, but with high contrast colors and a red pocket square...they are pretty obviously gay... Now, if the guy's fly is open...well...
Back in the day I would do just a quarter of a windowpane and that suited me just fine.
The transposition of sex and gender was supposed to be an inclusive progression. Gender refers to sex-correlated attributes (e.g. sexual orientation). Trans indicates a state or process of divergence. The transgender spectrum is an inclusive characterization under the modern model. Hoisted on their petard. Then they got swiped with the double-edged scalpel of political congruence ("="), including nondiscrimination for sexual orientation (e.g. pedophilia), celebrated with albinophobic symbols and rhetoric, no less. Fortunately, most people are not DEIsts prone to color judgments and class bigotry innate to bloc ideologies.

If you’re the aide of a Democratic Senator, then yes. I think that fits in with RCOCEAN II’s point, though.

That would be the barn door’s open, not the window pane.
BTW, i expect the Lindsey graham videotape to never be released. Israeli intelligence will destroy it when he dies.

A windowpane is a subset of a check pattern: https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/grids-plaids-windowpanes/
xxx-liberation movements (black, women's, Jewish, etc) used to be Burkean conservative at heart. Their message could be summarized as "You guys have a great system - just let me in it!" Kind of like the grey-flannel-suited civil rights protesters with neat pre-printed signs. David Starkey is a great example. Thurgood Marshall. SDO'C. Condi Rice.
Sometime in the 80s, though, people stopped being happy just to be let into the system. They wanted to change the system. Drastically. Which of course creates backlash.

Trump's made some comments along the lines of "I don't normally go that way, but he is one handsome man!"
I think just to screw with people, his fourth marriage will be to a guy. I mean at that point he'll be in his high 80s, so what's the real difference? Maybe he'll even do it while he's still in office, so he can steal the first gay First Gent milestone from the Dems. And have a blowout (pun intended) gay wedding party on the South Grounds.

You guys are such bigots. Trans rights - but not word about the transabled? "The term "transabled" refers to an individual who identifies as a disabled person despite having a physically unimpaired body." (Google AI) These people want to have their body match their identity and so they seek out ways to become handicapped, i.e., ways to lose a leg or both legs. I just finished an interesting book, Career of Evil, by JK Rowling which features characters from the transabled community. (They are part of a subplot, not the main plot which features truly evil career criminals and their enablers.) And once you are aware of the transabled and their arguments, it's hard to see how the Dems can deny them their claimed right to become less than they are by chopping off their own arms and legs so as to conform to their inner identity as disabled. Of course, the transabled quest to be less than they are is not at all the same thing as the usual quest to gain rights, such as gay marriage, so as to have a wider life. But I don't think the Dems will be able to articulate and enforce the difference - after all, they are officially unaware of the difference between a man and a woman.
What happened to the “Log Cabin Republicans?” Are they mentioned here? They were the old gay Republican group.
Joe Bar, as a founder of the Log Cabin Republicans, I can assure you that the organization is alive and well, with many members in the Trump administration. The lack of mention is just par for the course for the dreadful NYT. Their form of "journalism," need I say it?, is to ignore all reality not helpful to its narrative. "Normal gays" is one of those not-helpful facts.
overwhelmingly white and tend to have a certain kind of look. Close cropped haircuts. Windowpane suits. Golf shorts.
Speaking of this look, Travis Kelce popped the question, and Taylor's dad said she could wear a white dress.
Trump was for gay marriage back when Obama was still telling people he was against it. But try telling that to someone with TDS.
"Overwhelmingly white", are they? How white is that?
I've learned something today, haberdashery-wise.
Gay rights: nature should not be suppressed or criminalized, it should be free. Individuals will be happier, and since society is made up of individuals, society will be happier. The resources of police and criminal law should not be wasted by spying on gay people and trying to make their lives miserable.
Gay marriage: who you want to fuck is natural; any specific institutions or encumbrances are purely artificial, chosen by people who freely and arbitrarily will what they want. I want to announce to the world that I will more or less stick to fucking this person, at least for a while. That is all marriage ever meant, when moralistic bullshit was stripped away. Whether the two of us have a contract or not, we have every right to assert that we want to raise a child, and then get a child and raise him or her. Heterosexual couples should enjoy no special privileges. Of course, anything that can be willed so easily can be unwilled just as easily: there should never be any judgement of couples splitting up or giving a child back. It was all artificial, even if you end up being fond of a child. That's a kind of unpredictable outcrop of what might be called nature.
Trans movement: there's no such thing as nature--biology is irrelevant, any medical diagnosis is irrelevant. It goes without saying that social judgements are irrelevant, but it would make the newly embraced victims happy to force everyone to act and speak in a certain way. I will, therefore I am.
The Log Cabin Republicans were founded in 1977 -- almost fifty years ago! -- so it's really up to date and on top of things for the New York Times to acknowledge their existence.
The hyphenated word I most closely associate with gay men is "style-conscious," so if they're wearing windowpane suits then they are truly back in style. I'm down to one suit myself, a plain black number suitable for wear at the funerals of friends I've outlived, and for wear at my own funeral when it's my turn.
My wife and I have missed two weddings of the children of old friends this summer. One in May was black tie, with a black tie reception and dancing afterwards. My wife had nothing suitable to wear, and neither did I.
The other was Sunday, and not formal, but my wife again had nothing suitable to wear, and she didn't think that blue jeans and a nice shirt that I planned to wear were nice enough.
The advantages of having dated, skimpy, and unfashionable wardrobes!
Of course we sent money to help the youngsters--who make more money than we ever did--pay for the foreign honeymoons.
What’s wrong with windowpane suits? They are quite elegant especially if they are dark gray on gray.
Ha, ha. I read the first paragraph and could smell the alien scent of a NY Times writer fresh from the weird, invisible world they inhabit. The second paragraph confirmed it. I love winning...
Many years ago the CFO of Ford Motor Co was Allan Gilmour, a gay man who, since retired, is still active in affairs of the broader community. A very competent manager, well liked, and respected. His orientation never came up professionally.
Gayrillas in the mist.
“AlbertAnonymous said...

For Democrats, the answer is most definitely yes. Those that are not in on the organized crime of the Democrat Party are mentally ill. Those that are in on the crime are corrupt crooks.
I was told - by reliable insane leftists -the Trump was going to kill all the gays.
What would be a group described as underwhelmingly white?
John Winkleheimer: thank you for saying it again. Let's expand the fold. The Clintons, the Bushes, and Biden opposed gay marriage long after Trump spoke out for it refreshingly and cheerfully.
The guy helped save NYC and is now saving DC. Like Babe Ruth, many of his huge donations and his personal counsel are done behind doors. He has few streaks of modesty, but donating money to make ordinary people's lives better and advising city leaders are two of them.
It looks like I've been buying windowpane suits (never heard the term before) for my husband for decades because he won't wear louche Armani, Kissinger glasses and a Dominican thin moustache like an Italian for me.
He won't ever become a Dago Mick at this rate, which would complement his burning blue eyes. Oh well. Like all Sicilian women, I just wear black.
Leave it to the NYT to point out that these are not the right kind of gay people - with their whiteness and their
golf shorts, etc.

How about vantawhite? (Not Vanna White). It’s so white that every wavelength gets reflected and it stays cool.
"What would be a group described as underwhelmingly white?"
Perhaps the white Hispanics? First identified with a dude named Zimmerman.
Stereotype much? How do they know for sure who’s gay and who isn’t?
“A certain kind of look.” That would be funny if it wasn’t so stupid. People used to talk about Mormons that way around here. It always backfired because they usually confided this pearl of wisdom to someone who unbeknownst to them was also Mormon.
The left sure do want it both ways with the trans stuff.
They say in unison: "oh trans is only .001%
Then out of the other side of their collective mouths:
The left insist it is important we all obey their gender confusion and child grooming schemes - and obsessions with gender BS in public schools. Along with men in women's sports and men in women's private spaces... and creepy "gender affirming care" schemes.
Men wearing suits. Must be gay.
Bisexuals? Homosexuals are also bigendered. Bisexuals, homosexuals, and simulants are all in the transgender spectrum. #NoJudgment #NoLabels #LoveWins pedophiles, too? Equitable and inclusive, if DEIst in banner(s) and rhetoric. That said, civil unions for all consenting adults would allow them to lose their politically congruent ("=") smear. #HateLovesAbortion
It's hard to be gay in a suit. Perhaps in shorts, or pants with increased freedom of motion.
"What if you want to get yourself filmed taking it up your ass in the well of the United States Senate?"
Cleaner than a bathroom stall. Ask Larry Craig, he of "wide stance".

I remember having one back when I was a yoot. Ditto double-breasted suits. And sometimes vests as well.
Men's fashions come and go, then come back again---albeit with more style restrictions than with women's clothes, where the aim is to offer things other women will envy when you wear them.
Guys aren't like that.
btw: a Burberry trenchcoat complete with lining hangs in my closet. Nobody wears them any more. My two grown boys won't go near it.
I might try to sell it to a theatrical costume company, for use as a prop in movies set no later than the 1970's. Or maybe to that TV series featuring the "Reddington" character, who always appears in a trenchcoat and hat.
IIRC, that amateur porno was made in a hearing room, not in the Senate chamber.

"I've never understood lumping gay and trans together. Normalizing trans is the ultimate rejection of homosexuality."
That was the surgeons' doing. For centuries, when one couldn't do anything about it, thinking that one was misgendered by fate wasn't very different from believing that one was a same-sexer.
"What if you want to get yourself filmed taking it up your ass in the well of the United States Senate?"
Republican gay dudes would never do that. That's a mentally ill thing that leftists do.
Quote from the article:
“He recalled a famous quote about politics, spoken in 1983 by Edwin Edwards, the Louisiana Democrat who bragged: ‘The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy.’”
Don’t have sex with boys. And yes having sex with underage girls used to be ok for politicians.
It helps that Scott Bessent is clearly such a competent, respected, and valued member of his Cabinet and doesn't get trotted out to virtue signal with a "Oh look at my openly gay Secretary of the Treasury," routine.
Can you imagine, it used to be just fine for politicians to have sex with girls. It was only if you murdered them that you got into trouble and then if you were Ted Kennedy, that worked out for you as well. Democrats called him the Lion of the Senate.
So in the olden days at least the boys were protected to some extent from the fucking politicians.
"And they aren’t the least bit offended that the leader of their party continues to stoke a moral panic about transgender people."
Why would they be? Homosexuals are perverse, but they're no more prone to mental illness than straights.
Trump supports transgenders (e.g. bisexual, homosexual) individuals. So does everyone else. Civil unions for all consenting adults.
The issue of simulants, Levine's Dreams of Herr Mengele, is that surgical, medical, and grooming corruption have no demonstrated skill to predict the majority who will be harmed, the majority who will outgrow their confused state, and the minority who will suffer from lifelong dysfunctional consequences.
The issue with conflating sexes is that women, in particular, are subject to disparate outcomes up to and including physical harm. Progressive liberals pushed women to the back of the bus, and girls under the bus, for sociopolitical leverage. #HateLovesAbortion
Biblical references tend to drop off in these posts.
@ Marty, I have seldom seen a swifter ex cathedra reply on this blog! Well done!
Speaking of trans, after I argued in the Nebraska Supreme Court I stopped in the gift shop. I spent over $200 on Christmas ornaments. The person waiting on me wore a dress, had a mustache and very small breasts.
If it more important that you are a member of an activist group than an individual, be a Democrat. If your life as an individual is more important than being a member of group, be a Republican.
@Dave Begley: your anecdotes always make me want to visit this mystically practical place that is Nebraska. I drove through it once but was in a hurry to get someplace else. I was a college freshman driving with my college senior boyfriend in a drive-away car. Remember those? You got paid to drive it. This one was a pink cadillac with the license tag "BABY." I think we were stopped by the state police at least twice in every state, but we never got a ticket. They were just checking.
“It helps that Scott Bessent is clearly such a competent, respected, and valued member of his Cabinet and doesn't get trotted out to virtue signal with a "Oh look at my openly gay Secretary of the Treasury," routine.”
To the point where I never knew he was gay until right now.
