Lil Nas, we hardly knew ye.
His song was a big hit a few years back, but when I saw the name today, I wondered if China had a new leader.
Lil Xi is another rapper, but the name may be pronounced "Lil Eleven."
I wonder if a drug test of the real human blood in his Satan Nikes would reveal the intoxicants involved?

I'd never get out the house naked. I know. I've tried many times. People around me always say it wouldn't be prudent. Now I know they were right, but I think I'll keep trying. I crave the attention.
Maybe he was so messed up from drugs he thought the cops were competing musicians from the Village People!

I think the WaPo screwed the pooch with its headline. Resisting arrest is a misdemeanor in California, as is battery on a police officer. Any attorney in Cali want to weigh in on this one?
When I was an assistant DA, serving in district court, prosecuting misdemeanors, I was shocked at how nobody went to jail.
Probation, probation, probation. Huge amount of unsupervised probation.
Bad misdemeanors, you would get supervised probation, and if your probation officer revoked your ass, then you went to jail.
Also, DWI could land you in the slammer.
They didn't even bother charging him with public indecency. Nice!
Anyway, my prediction is, probation.
Or maybe he thought they were Tom of Finland cops, and punching them would initiate a romantic bears-vs-twink interlude....

Well Saint Croix, he wasn't just resisting arrest but "resisting an executive officer". Next time he will do what the Harvey Weinsteins of the world tell him to do.

I'm sure they recognized this as a drug or mental illness issue from the start. Yet, finding a person naked on the street calls for aggressive action. They'll overcharge him now, and hope to make it stick until he get's the psych eval and/or treatment. Then, a rich black guy in California will go his merry way doing his merry things. See Rodney King post settlement.
I like the song quite a bit- it used to play at my gym all the time.
As a long time follower of popular music, one the things I find remarkable is how static music charts are in the last 20 years. During my teen years (first half of the 1980s), a song staying on the Hot 100 for more than 6 months was fairly rare- maybe 2-3 songs/year would reach that level and some years, none. Today, songs can stay on the Hot 100 for years. Right now there is a song in the top 10 that has been in the Hot 100 for 2 years exactly and 19 out 100 have been on the chart for more than 6 month with almost all of those in the top 50.
And the album charts are even worse.
Felony is prison for a year or more. Misdemeanor is less than a year. Misdemeanors sound bad. 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 120 days. But there's not enough jail space for any of that. I was prosecuting 200 to 300 misdemeanors a day.
We had one, Assault With a Deadly Weapon. That's when somebody points a gun at your face. Misdemeanor. Probation. Next!
I am probably a scofflaw in my old age. But to me, felony is a crime. Misdemeanor is like criminal pre-school.
It's not the criminal punishment that gets you, its the civil one. All of a sudden, it's going to be really hard to find a new job. Your criminal record will follow you around. Background checks are super easy to do. You've really messed up your life. And it follows you around forever.
We really ought to rethink this. It's basically a lifetime punishment for a relatively small offense.

Well, measurement has definitely changed but this also means there are far fewer new hits today than there was in 1984. Has song output decreased? I have no idea.

The previous record was held by Francis Craig. whose 1947 hit "Near You" spent 17 weeks at #1. (AFAIK, Mr Craig never punched any cops nor was naked in public.)
I guess it was inevitable that I would see the famous hit video sooner or later.
