I don't understand why we are calling this person trans. If you're saying you "brain-washed" yourself, you've implicitly consigned the belief to the past. You might not reveal the loss of belief to others, but you've put it in writing — albeit in code — and we can read it. Why are people pretending to believe that he believed what he said he didn't believe? And he wrote it explicitly: "I know I am not a woman."
I don't see why anyone wants this person to be a member of their group. What good would it do anyone to have Westman as one of their own?

Why is this pretender not really trans when other pretenders are? What does it mean to be 'really' trans? A biological male who goes trans is not a woman. Wishing and pretending and insisting that he is a woman doesn't alter reality. Whether the person believes himself to be a woman or not has no bearing on the reality of his situation. He can pretend all he wants. The rest of us are not and should not be obligated to pretend along with him. Way too many of us are too polite to point out the obvious.

Being trans is a red flag for mental or emotional distress. It isn't a phase or lifestyle choice like going vegetarian or changing parties on your voter registration.
Westman changed his name when he was 17 years old, but is worried that cutting his hair will get him reported for a concerning change of character. Hearing from the parents would be informative.

It must be very confusing to be in that position or state. I doubt there is a lot of certainty for a young trans person about what they are doing moment to moment, day to day and when there is, I doubt it lasts very long. They might say otherwise, of course, out loud.
Westman wrote those words at a moment in time when he was feeling a certain way. It's likely he was feeling differently at other times.
What is trans? Perhaps it comes with a state of constant doubt and anxiety, especially in a young person. Doubt and anxiety often manifest as anger.
This guy doesn't help the cause, that's for sure. Do the white males get to exclude him as a member of that demographic because he did something terrible? Nope.
History doesn't repeat but it rhymes. Many reassignment surgeries of the 1970s ended in suicides by the 1980s. Biological determinism (i.e., with substantial predicability) is real. Mental illness is real. Jordan Peterson knew all this and rang the alarm, and then got bullied and gaslit by a mass of conformist professionals who truly knew better.

I think it's far more important to note that he felt like he brainwashed himself. He didn't do it on his own. He's had an entire nation encouraging it, pumping it, pushing it on our kids. Making what has been, in any other age, any other time in this or any other country, an abnormal process, a normalized 'transition'. Not only was it normalized, but praised. Celebrated. Given more attention and space than its actual participants merited. And so...they had to grow the numbers and continue to push...push society on it's head. Make people uncomfortable, and get others, especially the young, to sacrifice themselves to The Cause.
Another day, another cause. And when it passes- and it will pass- those responsible for people like Robin Westman will have disappeared back into the woodwork. Or the university. Or their medical clinics.
Lastly, I will note this because I think it's important to say. I am not calling trans people evil. I am not denying that there are some people who do need to transition- or at least they have felt a lifelong need to do so. And if they have reached adulthood, it's their life. But for kids and younger people? Regret is too soft a word for what you would feel.
I would also say that, even though I acknowledge there will always be adults who transition, or feel the need to- it is still an abnormal human psychology. It is not the norm. Doesn't make it evil. But it's not normal.
If you tell people that men can have babies, and you keep telling them that - and abusing them verbally if they try to reject this falsehood ... then a large number of those people will just go insane.
This kid's mother - who worked at the Catholic School that was shot up - has a lot to answer for.

Transition means being in an unstable state. It's pretty clear from reading the entire excerpt and not focusing on one or two fragments that Westman was still struggling to achieve a stable identity. I have no doubt that he had genuine feelings of confusion over sexuality as those are not uncommon in adolescence. As Quaestor noted, he just had the bad luck to express them at a time when we've normalized extreme interventions to align gender stereotypes with biology.

Two, the kid tried to transition, from a man to a woman, and he failed. The liberal culture told him that this was possible. His doctors told him that this was possible. That's not how it works. I live in Minnesota and I have two adult children. Based on the interactions we have had with other families, I can think of 5 different families who have had to deal with the trans issue. One of the kids who decided he is a girl was a member of my son's Boy Scout troop; his father and older brother are both Eagle Scouts and his father was Scoutmaster for a time as well. There was nothing outwardly obvious that would have suggested this individual would become trans, but at some point things changed. We knew other kids who were scouts, a couple who were marching band kids and one who was an all-conference distance runner - all became trans for some reason or other. I didn't see any evidence of Munchausen in the parents, either. Most were male to female, but we also know of female to male trans situations as well. If you try to find common threads, you don't really see any, other than kids being immersed in a culture where if someone starts to question anything about their identity, there's a phalanx of "helpers" who leap into action.

Calling people “crazy” is not the right way to think about this.
The chemical processes we developed to control our bodies and survive in harsh environments with bears and lions around trying to eat us and the need to find food and not freeze to death are hardly understood even at a basic level.
The concept of “crazy” is just a coping mechanism by people who are embarrassed by a fellow member of their tribe acting badly. If a Republican sees someone do something bad then that person was crazy. If a democrat does something bad then democrats will just call them crazy.
It is a means to dissociate the tribe they are a part of from the results of the tribe’s community when those actions will reduce the power and prosperity of the tribe.
This is a very recent development as a member of the tribe going off and slaughtering members of a different tribe wasn’t really much of a problem until about 100-200 years ago when Anglo-Protestant culture became something better than the rest of human history.

I’m no expert on gender dysphoria, intersex conditions, or related disorders, but as a child, I knew a farmer who had a 200-pound goat with both a vagina and a penis. The elder farmers speculated that its size was nature’s way of protecting it from attacks by the other goats.
Over the years, I’ve wondered if there was ever a time when a doctor had to look at a new mother and ask, “Whaddya want me to do—snip or stitch?” Raising a child who “lost the coin flip” of the snip or stitch could certainly make for awkward teenage years—for both the child and the parents.
Granted, these occurrences are extremely rare, and there are clearly multiple levels of seriousness in such conditions.

RJ Ward, the problem is that they (or a good percentage of they) require the participation of the rest of society to affirm their delusions. Nobody is bothered by the true medical oddity of being born with both sets of genitalia. It is the social converts with mental illness who insist on invading women's spaces (sports, bathrooms, locker rooms, jails) who must be dealt with. The parents who allow themselves to be manipulated by children and by an immoral medical community are the primary bad actors here. After adulthood I'm not sure what can be done about it by parents, but fundamentally this comes down to shitty permissive parenting.

Exactly. This is the research that John Money did. He the parents, the people around them, and later the boys themselves treat the one boy with the mutilated genitalia as a girl. Even after the boy recognized what had been done to him and began refusing to participate, John Money insisted he do otherwise. By age 15, the boy decided to remain representing himself as a boy for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, the trauma caused to him ultimately lead him to take his life at age 38.
Despite all this, Money's research remains the template for gender dysphoria and how to treat it. If we had other treatments that were optional and had these outcomes, we wouldn't use them.
There is a condition called autogynephilia, in which a man does not think he is a woman so much as he is aroused by the idea of being a woman. It is a forbidden topic, but those who subscribe to it, including researchers at Johns Hopkins, believe it could describe as many as half of the men who identify as trans. Data is very hard to come by, because many institutions will ease you out the door or outright fire you if you take it seriously. But at my psych hospital it was muttered that the suicide rate for the group was quite high, so why the hell can't we study it? Dave Cullen wrote an amazing book about Columbine, just called Columbine. The killers were not bullied; one had a disturbing police record, always excused by the courts and his parents, and they tried to make bombs, which they planted on-site, which would have killed many more students. Luckily, the bombs failed, and so they failed to raise the death count by dozens or more. At that point, they committed mutual suicide.
There are more cases of dual killers, or passive criminals following a mob, than we are aware of. The parents share responsibility in this case.

I didn't come across it here in the comments, nor have I seen it mentioned in the news: At what point was the perp, in the 'transition' cycle? Was he just declaring his gender, was he getting hormone therapy, was he under psychiatric care, had he received any gender-related surgery? It would seem clear to me that the expected side effects are different at each stage. Just wondering where this particular case is, on that timeline.
I got the sense that Robin Westman was dealing with "transition regret." And her writings indicated that she was in the stage of accepting that she had been deluded or was willing to delude herself into thinking she was a woman or could become a woman. But she hadn't taken the step of looking for support to de-transition. She hadn't made that choice. There are people on YouTube who are de-transitioners -- and they get a lot of nasty attacks from trans activists.
There are also transgender women on You Tube who readily acknowledge that while they have chosen to live as women they are still biological men. The fact that they are willing to tell the truth without delusions and admit to not actually being women doesn't mean they are not transgender.

I can't remember where I read it, but long ago there was this epic post frequently screencapped from a celibate gay penitent describing his debauched sexual sadism during the 80s and 90s and how looking back retrospectively he realized that nothing he did ever gave him any joy. If you don't want politicians involved in these decisions, then simply don't make it policy that everyone must pay for what is ultimately cosmetic surgery. What made this political was insisting that such surgery be covered, then saying it must be made available to minors, and worse of all, that minors can consent to such surgery even if their parents and guardians do not. Followed shortly after with politicians saying that if parents and guardians tried to prevent such surgery, then the child could be removed from the home, even if the child was also trafficked across state lines. There is one political party in the US that suggested all those things making it a political discussion, Democrats.

I have seen numerous reports from young people who had been transgenders who disclosed that they had mental problems before they started the transition process. But doctors had ignored there mental problems and immediately diagnosed them as transgender and started treating them with hormones, etc.
I saw a report from a former classmate and friend of Westman that he displayed "erratic behavior," praising Hitler, etc., while they were in 7th grade. She was sorry she didn't have any way of preventing this tragedy, because although she was only a child she knew there was something deeply wrong with him.

I have been watching “Alien: Earth.” The main character is a hybrid, the term used for downloading a human’s memories into an android body. But the company doing the downloading for some reason used terminally-ill children and adult-shaped androids. Which means their childish ways of thinking don’t match their adult functionality. For instance, hot girl hybrids still have the minds of 8 year olds. And they can never really enjoy being hot, because the android bodies don’t have the ability to orgasm, or get pregnant, or feel any emotion at the physical level: no heart to race, no stomach to drop.

Westman's actions were entirely rational. They were as rational as many of the things I saw overseas. I saw more dead kids due to actions we took than this guy killed. 2 dead kids is a slow week in Chicago.
My first thought when I saw all of the guns this guy had was "how the fuck did he only kill 2 people?" especially knowing this was a Minnesota School where there was guaranteed to be no guns around.
People claiming this person is crazy or somehow mentally deviant need to look around the world a little bit.
The only reason people on the left are calling him crazy is because the left has declared war on their political enemies and they don't want us to respond in kind.

Non-gay people tend to be DISGUSTED by gay and lesbian behavior, or the mere thought of what gay men do with each other. They are not generally FEARFUL of gays or lesbians. This raw disgust reaction follows from their own strong and "inborn" heterosexual interests, plus a logical determination that same-sex bodies do not function when together.

There is ZERO EVIDENCE Robin Westman was a medicalized transsexual serious about transitioning. None.
As best as we can tell from reporting, he was a non-binary person that played with gender presentation for a brief time - and then backed away from that identity.
I know facts won't matter, and the right wing will continue to run with a story - but this man was not on estrogen, he was not transitioning genders. He liked to crossdress sometimes and wanted an ambiguous name.
He wasn't trans! He was non-binary! Huge difference!

I think this young man belonged to the Leopold/Loeb group. These are young people who just somehow achieve something in their own mind by shooting kids, especially kids at their own former school. It's as if they can never imagine any other arena or any other fame than to be important on the playground. They're always eight, listening to stories about the big kids who are twelve and hoping for similar fame and glory.
I remember once back in the '90s when it was a thing, that one of my friends described someone as a "fake Goth". Another wise friend of mine retorted: "There's no such thing as a fake Goth. The pretense is the whole point!" One could equally apply that to Transez. The difference between a "real" and "fake" Trans is semantics. All are trying to be something that they are not.
At the risk of drawing the wrath of all right-thinking people of the commentariat (Tina Trent, I am looking at you), perhaps it will prove in successive centuries that the contemporary conceit of suppressing the sexuality of children ("children" defined here as from the time they first exhibit interest to the legal age of 18) has deleterious effects for individuals and society far in excess of the presumptive damage done to either by a more permissive approach. Let's conduct a thought experiment on me. At the age of nine, I stumbled upon my lifelong (68 now) attraction to naked 20-something women on the purchase of my first Playboy magazine. I think it was maybe the March 1966 issue, for the record. Three days later, my friend's Dad busted us with it, causing a minor neighborhood scandal (today it would have national news and resulted in massive lawsuits against the drugstore who sold it).
Contemporary thought would posit that I was psychologically damaged by seeing dreadful pornography. Perhaps so. But what if my interest had been supported by society and instead of having to masturbate to the women's lingerie section of the Sears catalog for a few more years (no internet back then), a kindly older woman had been available and willing to guide my journey? (preferably Miss March 1966). My sexuality would have been affirmed! (yes, "affirmed") and my expertise at cunnilingus might have been available to my high school girlfriends, instead of the long, self-guided development of that critical skill that ensued.
What difference, at this point, would it make? Would I have been transformed into a juvenile cooze-hound? Pretty much was anyway. Would I have become fixated on 20-something women as objects of sexual pursuit? Was anyway. Fifty years of feminist propaganda has not helped me find post-menopausal women attractive the least. Heaven help me, it appears I was born this way, stuck with 20-something women for sex and companionship and Shakespeare for intellectual stimulation. I manage, somehow.
So. What if instead of counseling and hormones and benzos, or whatever, on declaration of "transhood" young Westman had been sent off to a helpful ephebophile (look it up if you need to) to find out if he REALLY liked sucking dick and taking it in the butt, which of course is all that would be available (sounds a bit like "gay", no?) until he could afford
"gender-affirming surgery"? Maybe he would have liked it and been content to be gay. Maybe he wouldn't have liked it and gotten his mind right. Maybe he would have generally liked it, but thought it could be better if the partner ejaculated in his fake vagina. We will never know. But I feel sure the damage to his community would be less than it has otherwise been.
Leopold and Loeb were a team. So were Harris and Klebold. This killer and so many others, though, were loners. If they weren't loners, they might not have gone down this road.
Some people have commented on this shooter and the Nashville shooter really looking to do away with themselves but looking for a more dramatic and less depressing way to do it. Suicide has been called the coward's way out so often that some people who want to end their lives look to do it in ways that they don't think weak or cowardly.
The hatred of school children is also something this has atrocity has in common with Nashville and Sandy Hook. The shooters hate the innocence of children, but they are also attracted to it. They miss it in themselves and seek it. It's a complicated love/hate relationship. Not for nothing has "The Catcher in the Rye" become the favorite text for assassins and other killers.
In going back to their old schools are the killers trying to go back to a time before things went wrong or to the time when things went wrong? I suspect they identify the children with their own lost hopes and innocence, but also with the world of other people that they couldn't relate to and feel persecuted by. But still, why children? Why not just hate the adult world?
There is more harm in trying to fix people than there is in just letting them go on. Goddam chapel busybodies. Goddam women who get off on ruining lives for fun.

I may also draw down some wrath. I'm not a gun grabber, but if these people couldn't get their hands on guns and expect to get publicity by killing people, the world might be a better place. I say this because your hypothetical world doesn't sound like an improvement over our own. It's only because this guy picked up his gun and brought it to school to kill kids that that world sounds like it would be an improvement.
If in the future, we all had access to compliant sex robots to relieve our carnal urges would there really be fewer mass killings? A lot of it has to do with the desire for connection and meaning and purpose, rather than sexuality.

I have nothing against gay people, but -phobia and cisgender are hostile political terms used to stigmatize and belittle biological normals. With statistics, a "norm" and "norming" merely refer to the most frequent or typical status in a dataset. See bell curves. Heterosexuality is indeed the norm, and the species would go extinct if it was not the norm.
The organic, everyday terms people created for gays and lesbians have rarely been kind (e.g., f*g, qu**r, sodomist, etc.), and reveal attitudes similar to scraping sh*t off one's shoe. Still, this has nothing to do with phobias.
While it may not be possible to remove the -phobia term, one does not need to bow down to liars, bullies, and ideologues either. Instead of writing "homophobic terms for gays," write "common terms" or "traditional terms" or "critical terms" or "hostile terms" or anything else that's accurate.
