"Israel launched a stunning series of strikes Friday morning on Iranian nuclear sites and killed several of the nation’s security chiefs, in a remarkable coup of intelligence and military force..."

"... that decapitated Tehran’s chain of command. President Trump warned that further attacks would be 'even more brutal' and redoubled pressure on Iran to reach a new deal to curb its nuclear program.... The attacks also killed top Iranian officials and nuclear scientists and hit Tehran’s long-range missile facilities and aerial defenses."

The NYT reports.

Trump at Truth Social: "I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to 'just do it,' but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done. I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come - And they know how to use it. Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse! There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end. Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death, no more destruction, JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. God Bless You All!"

Calm down. Iran has been attacking countries around the region for years now. Nobody is happy with them. It isn’t a World War, because they have no support, unless you call the Houthis and Hamas the World. They were even offered a peaceful solution that they flatly rejected. This wasn’t even a surprise attack in the sense that stories were being written days ago talking about something big about to happen in Iran. See Pizza Index above. Iran has been working on a bomb for 15 years. They've also been trying to obtain weapons-grade material for longer. Israel's Golda Meir basically forced an ultimatum on the United States in '73 during the YK War with 13 or fewer simple unboosted fission implosion weapons made with less than 40kg of material (roughly 3kg of PU per pit), a move that motivated the US to initiate Operation Nickel Grass to save them and replace Israel's massive losses.

The technology to build a simple nuke is relatively easy, it's the getting enough material that's hard. In other words, Iran has a nuclear weapon, likely more than one. Depend upon it.

"A few things to note, while the action as Rubio states was indeed unilateral on the part of Israel, Rubio confirmed that he and the President were informed by the Israelis well in advance of the strike, which makes sense given yesterday's report of the latter putting our interests in the region on high alert and evacuating some out of the region entirely.

War is indeed a horrible and evil thing, but sometimes it is a necessary evil. Unlike the dark age reptilian savages that the Iranian Mullahs helped unleash on Israel on October 7th – on top of the multi-decade global terror campaign waged against Israelis, Jews and westerners around the globe since 1979, Israel's actions yesterday were entirely defensive in nature and might very well have the welcome effect of helping to collapse an evil regime that has imprisoned and terrorized the Iranian people and at long last liberate them from Islamic oppression that they have longed for. My thoughts and prayers are with the brave men and women of the IDF, the citizenry of the state of Israel and of the Iranian people (some of whom, mostly expat refugees, I have come to know personally over the years and are a good barometer of Iranian sentiment) for their safety and God-willing their long awaited liberation."

Darkisland చెప్పారు...

Apparently Israel smuggled large numbers of pre-programmed explosive drones into Iran over the past year. Once activated, they are completely autonomous attacking pre-programmed targets like apartment bedroom windows. (According to some accounts, anyway)

Earlier this week, before the attacks, my son and I were talking about drone warfare and I was reminded of Daniel Suarez' 2012 novel "Kill Decision" available at Ann's Amazon Portal

It forecast warfare by preprogrammed, autonomous drone swarms. Pretty good novel. I plan to read it again as soon as I finish Second Hand about the second hand industry (thanks to whoever recommended it a couple weeks ago. Very interesting)

I've been having nightmares about the Ukrainian aircraft carrier (a truck full of drones), and then thinking of some of the more imaginative uses in Suarez book and now the Israelis.

How many of the 40mm aliens in the US are skilled drone techs? It does not need many, a thousand or so might be plenty. As you drive around, do you notice empty shipping containers scattered about? Huge piles at warehouses, sure but probably hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, in onsies-twosies used for storage and whatnot or apparently just abandoned.

I wonder how many of these have drones inside waiting the signal.

The family media tells us that the Chinese are buying up property next to military bases to eavesdrop, they say. But there would be nothing unusual about having a few containers scattered about the property. Are they empty?

Or a small factory or warehouse. Shipping containers moving in and out would be perfectly normal. Nobody would ever notice a couple that never left the property.

Drones don't need GPS navigation to navigate to the bedroom window of, say, a state governor or a US senator. Once it knows where it is going, it can fly there by visual observation, like a Waymo of Tesla car.

In WWII, bombing was considered successful if the majority of bombs fell in a 5 mile radius. Now, a drone can attack not just a house but a specific room in the house penetrating through a window.

Stanley Baldwin said, in 1932, "The bomber will always get through" A lot didn't. 50,000 US Aircrew died over Europe. But enough did to turn many German cities into rubble.

The drone won't always get through. But they are cheap, don't risk a crew, and are autonomous. If you launch a couple hundred against a target, odds are good that some will get through and 1 may be all you need.

rcocean...what you don't know about this region, this conflict, could fill an arena. No matter.

Israel is doing the dirty work (again) for the Western nations who don't have the will or know-how to do what has to be done. The US is there to help them pull it off. And only under Donald Trump could this get done. The US under Obama and Biden was sending Iran billions and lifting sanctions on them. How'd that peace work out? (Fast forward to Oct. 7).

What Israel is doing is for their own survival. When someone spends 50 years declaring their goal is to eliminate you, and they're working on a nuclear project to get that done, you pay attention. But the recipients of overthrowing the Ayatollah's regime would not just be Israel. It would be all of the Western nations and...importantly, the Iranian people themselves. Or...let's just say, The World.

You will note, Israel is making finely targeted attacks, military targets. They are not blow-torching Tehran like they did Gaza. Its a different battle, different situation. They are not in a war with the Iranian people. But the Mullahs, the Iranian government- THIS is the head of the snake. Gaza (Hamas), Lebanon (Hezbollah) are the proxies. Israel has cut off the proxies legs. They are now working to cut off the head of the snake.

If you don't think that is a positive for you, for your country, for your family, you haven't been paying attention the last 45 years.Or maybe you just never knew the history. Maybe you get your history from Tucker Carlson or Dave Smith. If you're worried that the US is being dragged into another war where our guys will die for some other country...I get that. But Iran has had its hands on the murder of hundreds of Americans over decades. And their chant of Death to America is not nothing. They mean it. And they have their agents here. Many more since Joe Biden's team invited them in.

So they may bring the decision to your backyard yet. Stay tuned. In the meantime, I'm pulling for the Israelis to take care of the dirty work for us. And I don't mind that we're offering a hand. I think it's the least we can do. It's in our own rational self-interest to do so.
