It does attach "fascist" to Tesla, but the main point is to build cars here and to build them electric. The line is "If you're a fascist, get a Tesla/It's electric/It doesn't matter." Then he tells "Democrats" to "get whatever you want," but "China's waiting," so "Come on Ford, come on GM." Sounds MAGA to me.

As for backup cameras and warning systems, they have been installed in all vehicles since 2018. Its the law.

Wildswan, I can’t imagine the Tesla vehicle didn’t know the tree was there. Like you suggest, I suspect it was making a racket to convince Baez from hitting the tree. And it would have stopped before the tree if she would have just kept her foot off the accelerator. You have to be an asshole to be accelerating in reverse.

I don't understand these people destroying their Tesla cars. They've already paid the money for them, it doesn't bother Tesla at all. The insurance company has to pay and if you do it intentionally, they don't pay you anything, and probably drop you. Proof they are brainless.

Well, that song was awful, but typical Neil Young. He had a great run but it was over by 1980. His only really good album since then was Harvest Moon in 92. As to his politics, they are childish at best and always a confused mess. Good thing I don't rely on musicians for political insight.
Have I become that cynical? My first thought is Baez is lying about the Tesla incident. My second thought is, if she isn’t, then she shouldn’t be behind the wheel of any car.
One of the things I find most annoying about my most recent car purchase is that any-time the FWD car loses traction in snow or loose materials, it distracts me from adapting to the conditions I've just noticed by sounding a warning buzzer at me.
I can guess that Ms. Baez was unaware, in her new purchase, of how little pedal pressure it would take to accelerate that quickly backwards.
It is well established in air safety research that excessive alarms can increase operators' response times and can decrease their response rates, so for an unexperienced operator of a new Tesla I can imagine that the collision warnings might have contributed to the severity by delaying her removal of foot from pedal.
Imagine Joan Baez getting that upset because the "Masters of War" lost the last election.

Or in a state of irrational anger, enough anger to take your foot off of the accelerator once the car stopped itself, which it certainly would have, and press the brake pedal to deactivate the safety protocol, then pressed your foot back on the accelerator.
