"There wasn't, like, a moment in the '80s that wasn't super cool to be me. And then dark music."

"Bum, bum, bum, bum... I lost control of my anonymity, and it was devastating. I don't want to come off like a victim in some way...."

Reubens didn't lose control of his anonymity, he gave it up--when he was picked up for public lewdness, he tried to to pull the "don't you know who I am?" card.

I don't think what he did was particularly bad and the reaction--destroying one of the best kids shows ever created--over it was tragically stupid, but Reubens was a full participant in his own downfall.

I can’t wait for this. I was always a big fan and I felt terrible when he died early

Despite being flat broke though most of it, I agree about the 80's.

I loved his Saturday morning show. It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

He should have entertained himself on the senate floor. Very progressive .

I loved the whole Pee Wee Herman schtick. I could not take my eyes off of Pee Wee's Playhouse. I mean...Laurence Fishburne's character alone was worth the price of admission. Looking forward to this doc.
I remember the theater here in Sarasota where the dark days happened. I mean...I remember passing it often. It was on a busy street so that's why I passed it...often. Well...not often. Once in a while. But I never looked at it as I passed.

I know two people who were friends of Paul Reubens. They described him to me, while he was still alive, as an intensely loyal, very thoughtful guy. He would keep track of people's birthdays and surprise them with hilarious gifts. The fictive Pee-Wee persona was the product of a core of caring for others and good will toward the world.
The producer on this one is Emma Tillinger Koskoff. I had some dealings with her when she was Martin Scorsese's right hand for about 15 years. Very talented, very smart, despite the core Hollywood political beliefs necessary to survive. I expect this to be a good one.

He was a victim. Nuts he would be brought down that way.

Temujin doth protest too much, methinks.

Genius. May he rest in peace.

I miss Pee Wee and Paul. His turn in Blow was a classic archetype.

Look at what people get away with today by comparison. A cultural overreaction and self-inflicted wound to said culture. He was special and gift.

Pee Wee's dad was a WWII pilot who went on to help found the Israeli Air Force. Pee Wee was certainly entertaining, but he does sometimes make me wonder what was in the water after the war. But then, Pee Wee knows what he is, but what are we?

Ah, Pee-wee's Playhouse. In my early 20s, a little something to help my glaucoma and a big bowl of Lucky Charms. Perfect start to a weekend.
