I’m not a fan of deporting anyone to a third party country, particularly Libya. However, if the immigrant is being the problem, because they request asylum for from their home country and, in all the deportation cases discussing today, commit other felonies in the US, then off you go.

"Scheme" in British usage actually is essentially synonymous with "plan", but perhaps more specific to governments and other organizations. It does not carry the pejorative connotation of underhanded trickery that it does in American English.
Even the titles of official UK government programs will be referred to as a "scheme" for achieving some goal. "The Nether Piddlington Social Co-housing Scheme of 2021" for example.
They use it where we might instead use "schema" to describe something in more erudite language than a mere "plan."

Self-deportation is a real thing. One of my tenants is a Lebanese guy with a questionable immigration status, and he just gave notice that he is leaving to move back to Lebanon because he is afraid of deportation.
Now we have real id for air travel. That could change the quality of life for illegals but I bet they will still let you travel by showing a utility bill if you are really illegal.
I wonder if some states will start giving real id drivers licenses to everyone.

Forty-nine comments and no one has mentioned what I think is driving this. Illegals routinely throw away their ID cards at the border, to make it harder to send them back home. Can't send me home if you don't know where I'm from!
I have long thought that the solution to this problem is to take (e.g.) north African looking illegals who refuse to say where they're from, put them on a plane, and fly them to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia, in that order. Tell them "You can get off at whichever stop you please, but when we get to Somalia, everybody gets off." That would be a strong incentive for all the non-Somalis (and maybe some of the Somalis!) to get off before the last stop. It looks like the administration has come up with a similar plan: tell us where you're from, and we'll send you there, and if you don't, it's Libya!
A similar plan would send black Caribbeans to several stops, ending in Haiti. The Spanish-speaking Latinos' flight would end in Venezuela. And so on. Incentives!

I have not heard the word remittances in a long time, when are they going to tax the money these people send home at the money shops. That is a good way to incentivize working back home in your own country.
