Now we can cut taxes on domestic production or close the deficit.
This is merely shifting the tax burden to foreign producers off of domestic producers and payroll taxes.
You have to tax something. If you don’t tax imports and only tax your citizens and their work you are committing economic suicide. Every other country in the world does it. The federal government started off funded by tariffs then decided to shift that burden to citizens.
A lot of people fed off this system. The American people have been sold out by the “free trade” lobby for decades. Trump is merely returning us to sanity.

The citizens of the United States produce more wealth than any other engine in the world by a long ways. It is the energy and productivity of the American people that have lifted billions out of poverty. We work harder than anyone in the world.

I've had two Rovers, and believe it or not, they have both been pretty reliable. I'd buy another.
Rover got a name for building shop queens back in the bad old days when they got their electrical components from Lucas Electric in England, and Harry Lucas was known as the "Prince of Darkness". I had no electrical problems at all with mine.
The only major warranty work was an air conditioner that failed in the first year, and after that I got 100k miles out of both of them with no major disasters.

This is an announcement Trump felt he needed to make to satisfy market demands that he do something to reduce tariffs. Unfortunately, this is not a deal but simply an announcement of a framework for ongoing negotiations that in itself is a nothing burger.
It is also not encouraging that the 10% general tariff does not appear to be going away and that other terms are marginal at best. A more encouraging deal would be an industrial free trade pact with greater access for both sides on the agricultural side.
