Kamala is back, and she's teaching the wisdom of the elephants.

"Who saw that video from a couple of weeks ago? The one of the elephants at the San Diego Zoo. Te earthquake.... Here those elephants were and as soon as they felt the earth shaking beneath their feet, they got in a circle and stood next to each other to protect the most vulnerable.... What a powerful metaphor! Because we know those who try to incite fear are most effective when they divide and conquer, when they separate the herd, when they try to make everyone think they are alone. But, in the face of crisis, the lesson is: Don't scatter. The instinct has to be to immediately find and connect with each other and to know that the circle will be strong."

Said Kamala Harris, in her re-emergence speech yesterday.

And here are those elephants:

For the annals of Things I Asked Grok: "Why is the elephant the symbol of the Republican Party?"

Oddly enough the answer chimes with "Talk about Trump's third term goes on," the first post on the blog this morning. The GOP elephant originated in an 1874 Thomas Nast cartoon titled "The Third-Term Panic."

The President threatening to run for a third term was Ulysses S. Grant.

Hearing Quemala’s speech reminds me of just how crazy the Dems were to think she would connect with the American people. My God what a wacko!

ALP ayon kay ...

LOL good thing she didn't use insects as her example! They are BRUTAL! Do you know what a newborn worker bee must do first? Drag out the dead bodies of the bees that died over the winter. I hate it when people pick and choose from the animal kingdom to make a point.

Jimmy ayon kay ...

She is a perfect example of the current Democrat leadership. Remember that when the MSM and leftist trolls here tell us how superior they are to Trump.
Harris is an idiot. Biden was a mean and nasty idiot.

I don’t remember that lesson during Covid

There once was a photo of a bull elephant having its way with a donkey, but teh internetz was scrubbed due to the wailing/rending of jumpers/gnashing of teeth by the progphibians.

gilbar ayon kay ...

so, we SEE the camera shaking, and the elephants go on alert..
and the news lady says:
"some how they KNEW.. maybe the vibrations in their feet!"
umm. you mean the vibrations that were shaking the camera??

and what did they do?
They either 'formed a parameter', like soldiers do..
or they 'circled the wagons' like settlers do..
or the just went on alert.. because they weren't Stoned.

It's NOT REALLY THAT impressive..
The Impressive thing, is that Kammy Harris wants US to be zoo animals

stutefish ayon kay ...

Maybe next she'll give us an uplifting metaphor about bull elephants in musth.

I'm kind of soured on zoos, though. Huge amounts of money spent on keeping animals in cages. And while the San Diego Zoo does have a world-class elephant habitat and care facilities, it's still a cage.

After looking at the elephants, Ms Kamala should head over to the Condor enclosure. It's a netted space about the size of a modest two-story single family home. One tall, limbless, leafless tree in the middle, that they can perch on and glide down from. Boop to that. Down with zoos and zoo metaphors.

Funny how all these “but we didn’t know” books about Biden’s decline never admit that they did know and the reason they looked the other way was because Kamala would’ve take his spot, were he to be dispositioned. They were boxed in.

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

and what did they do?

Maybe you haven't seen the longer video. FIRST, before the camera shakes the bulls become agitated and start looking intently in every direction to see what the frequency they detected means: intruder, mudslide? THEN they react to the ground wave by encircling the young ones, facing outwards.

Kamala should take a hint from how the herd protects pregnant elephants. They value life.

I can’t think of anything more divisive than the theory and practice of identity politics which the Dems perfected. They inverted the unifying phrase “From many, one” to “from one, many”.

That's the crazy thing. They knew in 2020 that was their only option.
More than anything, that leads me to believe that 2020 was stolen. They thought they could steal any election from the hapless, gullible Republicans. So it didn't matter what homunculus they propped up as the face of the Donk party.

That and all the 2 AM vote theft. And yet the lead up to the 2018 midterms has to be studied. Robert Mueller's appointment was critical to paralyzing the government. If Pam Bondi tried appointing a special prosecutor now, even with a 2/3 affirming vote in Congress, she would be fired before the ink could dry. Then the prosecutor would follow her.

The Democrats really burned all their resources trying to pop up Biden/ Harris. It just might cost them everything, well before the midterms ever arrive.

The Godfather ayon kay ...

The Republicans ended up nominating Garfield for President, not Grant (the two-year limit wasn't in the Constitution yet, but "if two terms was enough for Washington . . ." had s lot of influence. Garfield was assassinated by a nut-job. "Destiny of the Republic" by Candice Millard tells the story well.

Mary Beth ayon kay ...

From the video: "And you can see one of these beautiful creatures here behind me" and then it looks like the camera is zooming in on the guy eating ice cream. That was an excellent beginning to the video.

They did a lot of talking but I don't think they explained why the elephants do this. (I kind of stopped listening when they talked about the young male's "very unique" behavior, so I may have missed an explanation.) Is it a behavior to protect the young during a stampede?

robother ayon kay ...

Actually, a Grant third term would've spared the nation the Presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes--and his disputed selection (not election), which ended Reconstruction in the South. Don't feel bad, Godfather, I always forget the name of the 19th President.

RCOCEAN II ayon kay ...

One of the best things about Rutherford B. Hayes is he was a Civil war vet that understood it was time to stop oppressing the South and start the process of "binding up the nations wounds" and end the corrupt carpetbag Governments infesting the South.

"Negro Equality" as it was called, was impossible in 1870s. And no one really believed it. The Republican dream, there real desire, was to turn blacks into reliable R voters. Once it became clear that the South would only accept that at Bayonet point - it was time to leave.

Whether Grant would have done the same, is unclear. Grant had no problem with being married to a the daughter of a slave owner. And stated that he was never an abolistionist (sic). He was, however, a clever politician in addition to being a good General, and quickly realized that pushing the Radical Republican Agenda was the way to the White House.

RCOCEAN II ayon kay ...

Its funny how everyone looks back on American history before 1970, and thinks everyone was obsessed with "The Negro Problem" and voting based on that. Young people have told me that Nixon got elected due to his "Southern Strategy" thereby showing they know nothing about 1968.

Lazarus ayon kay ...

"Protecting the herd" was more or less the theme of Mario Cuomo's 1984 Wagon Train speech. The difference is that now, we have come to think of the "herd" that must be protected as the "blob" of politicians, bureaucrats, activists, NGOs, foundations, media talking heads, think tankers and DC hangers on, not as the rest of the country.
.
Walz was picked because of demographics - he was White male, middle aged, middle class and from the Middle West. Nobody assumed he was a great communicator when he was picked. It was only because the Democrats were desperate that they presented him as a white guy whisperer. Otherwise, he would just have been a placeholder, like Tim Kaine in 2016. The extra expectations put on Walz were bound to be disappointed, as would have been the case with most v.p. nominees.
.
Did Joe stay in because those in power feared Kamala, or because Jill and the Bidens clung so fiercely and desperately to their own power? The First Family wasn't going to be dislodged. Would Democrats have started earlier and tried harder to dump Biden if someone other than Kamala were v.p.? That's hard to say, but usually vice presidents aren't great presidential material. Democrats may have had a "don't rock the boat" attitude, hoping against hope that they could somehow manage to keep Joe upright for another four years.

Bob Boyd ayon kay ...

Unfortunately for Kamala and the Dems, elephants never forget.

Big Mike ayon kay ...

@Althouse (12:54) I wasn’t trying to “get” you — sometime between 2020 and Inauguration Day 2025 things flipped and it is the Democrats who have become the “stupid party,” and I find it humorous. They seem determined to be on the 10% side of every 90-10 issue, on the 20% side of every 80-20 issue, and on the 30% side of every 70-30 issue. I think they’d find their way to being on the losing side of a 50-50 issue.

It's weird that Kamala doesn't know elephants symbolize Republicans.

My nominee for "earthquake" was the 100+ felony charges against Donald Trump, and the attempt to steal the election via lawfare.

Republicans united around their vulnerable Elephant and put him back into the White House.

john mosby ayon kay ...

St Croix: "Republicans united around their vulnerable Elephant and put him back into the White House."

Except they didn't. Nearly all the leading Rs took a wait-and-see stance at the beginning of the lawfare. It took Trump himself and the MAGA grassroots to get the big elephants marching in the right direction?

Maybe the better analogy is Trump the alpha dog got all the betas in line? Or Trump the silverback got the whole troop to get the nonconforming males back into submission?

Anyone stupid enough to vote for Harris for any public office or capacity whatsoever deserves whatever they get just as with Gavin and Karen Bass. However the rest of us don't. I'm afraid this election-democracy hoax we use now for governce is wearing kind of thin. Popular votes are just another form of tyranny to be honest. Especially so with the mail-in ballots, early voting, late counting, no ID or citizenship requirements plus lawfare trickery all added into the mix. It's now many smaller tyrants instead of one big one as in past times. Maybe America will get through all this but then again maybe we too will end up resorting to snipers, riots, and car bombs to sort out our power arrangements. That's the typical practice in human societies and America is not special after all. Time will tell.

Kakistocracy ayon kay ...

The fact that Harris used her first speech of 2025 to attack Trump's policies—and not to claim that in fact she won the election—shows how timid the Democratic Party has become.
