If your first thought is "Sheer Madness," your second thought should be is this for real.

If you just X about it, you're revealing something about yourself. Do you want this to be true?

I just found that in draft form. Couldn't remember what it was, and it seemed so strange. Now, I remember and I remember why I left it unfinished, and somehow I like it in its unfinished form. I don't want to call attention to the specific thing I was reacting to, and I like it in the abstract.

My first thought was "is the misplaced apostrophe intentional?"

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

@Will It was intentionally left as it appeared in draft form, unedited. But I have changed it, for clarity.

For the record: In the post heading, I originally had "you're" for "your."

Thanks for noticing and for prompting me to disown it.

Sheer Madness or Shear Madness?

Sheer Madness or Shear Madness?

An apostrophe was shorn, so the second option applies.

Or maybe it's the Shear Madness of shearing off wieners and boobies.

It’s the only way to approach stuff at Reddit without “getting played”. I put “getting played” in quotes because it’s something I often heard in the club scene I used to make my home away from home.

It would have been sheer madness to walk to Picnic Point for sunrise today for a hot minute before high-tailing it back before the storm.

You know what's "Sheer madness"? All the stuff we thought 30 years ago was "Sheer madness" and "Could never happen" - is now considered normal by the MSM/Power Elite, and it has happened.

Sheer madness = when a sheep sees a pair of shears.

Bet it was The Atlantic article that turned out to be unfindable.

@Howard You are right

See this.

And the "Sheer Madness" post (on X) was from the celebrity most likely to be touted as having a genius IQ.

I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone write “X about it” instead of “tweet about it” - I like the change to the present form.

Former Yankees outfielder Oscar Gamble is quoted as saying, "They don't think it be like it is, but it do," and I think that covers this topic pretty well.

"I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone write “X about it” instead of “tweet about it” - I like the change to the present form."

When I encountered the post this morning and didn't at first remember what it was, I saw the "X" as a place marker. I thought I was going to work out a phrase to go there. Then I realized I had used it as a synonym for "tweet." I only published it like that because I was publishing what was a draft. But feel free to go forward using X as a verb.

If I'm the first to use it like that, I want the OED to use the quote: "If you just X about it, you're revealing something about yourself."

Virgil Hilts ayon kay ...

I was surprised how many prominent people - James Woods -- kept posting it after it was shown to be a hoax. It really did seem like a great Babylon Bee satire.

I was going to guess the quote referenced that fast talking tictoc doing a Doge fake interview with himself who rattled off bizarre government programs that were so far-fetched, but you had to wait a second and think well it sure sounds plausible that the fools playing with our money actually would fund something like that. Kinda the same thing.

I agree completely.

Regarding The Atlantic hoax, don't forget Kirk's Second Law:

"Any story too good - - or bad - - to be true, probably isn't."

Can we agree that to post on X is to Xweet?
