Trump does not rule out recession as he rejects business fears over tariffs ~ Fox News Sunday
Generally, you want your president to rule out causing a recession.
Lutnick setting the standard though:
“So, will there be distortions? Of course, foreign goods may get a little more expensive, but American goods are going to get cheaper.,” Lutnick told NBC’s meet the press.
Tell me you don't understand economics or input -- output without telling me you don't understand. Good to know the Commerce Secretary has such a firm grasp of economics. In fact the domestic price will rise for the same good that’s imported. Businesses are not charities.
How on earth did Lutnick get to be CEO of Cantor with that level of understanding of economics?
Mark Carney Wins Leadership of a Canadian Liberal Party Revived by Trump ~ WSJ
Carney’s resume is ridiculously stacked. A superb leader at just the right time.
Trump has turned this election into a referendum regarding who is best placed to defend Canada.
It’s impressive how Trump manages to continually snatch defeat from the jaws of victory -- he could have had a friendly conservative government up north, instead he’s handed the incumbents another (likely) election victory.
In one day the server farm builders have cut down a half mile of untended trees along the side of a west-running road that I use when there's a strong west wind in bicycling. It cuts down the headwind speed, but no longer.

Good. We need a contraction in the economy. Particularly in the Billionaire crony globalist sector. Hopefully we see a massive contraction in the Washington DC area property values.
And working class Americans will get paid to make products here in the US and have more money to buy the products they make.
If we get a -50% total "productivity" in Northern Virginia and plus 5% in the rest of the country nobody is going to mind a small contraction in the overall GDP.
Nobody cares about your stupid statistics Rich. We are smarter than you are. You are just too dumb to notice how little anyone cares about your lies.
LLR-democratical Rich: "Tell me you don't understand economics or input -- output without telling me you don't understand."
LOL
Just a refresher, LLR-democratical Rich, in the Fall of 2022, declared every single Musk company a fraud that would collapse imminently. Well, we see how that went, didn't we?
Meanwhile, from Investopedia, a few actual facts Abacus Boy Rich, the Harry Sisson of Althouse blog "forgot" to mention:
"Key Takeaways President-elect Trump's commerce secretary appointee, Howard Lutnick has an estimated net worth of $2 billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth. 1. Lutnick is the chairman and CEO of Wall Street financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald. 2. Lutnick is estimated to have a 60% stake in Cantor Fitzgerald, according to a 2018 article from Bloomberg.
Here's how Lutnick made his billions.
Cantor Fitzgerald The majority of Lutnick's wealth comes from his stake in Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm. Lutnick joined the company in 1983 and became its president and CEO in 1991. He was named chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald in 1996. Lutnick is estimated to have a 60% stake in Cantor Fitzgerald, according to a 2018 article from Bloomberg.
More than 650 Cantor Fitzgerald employees died during the September 11 terrorist attacks when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the World Trade Center just a few floors below the firm's offices. Lutnick's younger brother, Gary Lutnick, was among the employees who lost their lives that day.
Lutnick rebuilt the firm in the wake of the attacks and launched The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, which donated $180 million over five years and provided health care coverage for more than 10 years to the families of Cantor employees who died.
Cantor also has a stake in publicly traded financial services company BGC Group, which was originally part of Cantor Fitzgerald before becoming its own entity in 2004. Lutnick led the merger between BGC and electronic trading platform eSpeed, which formed BGC Partners, Inc. BGC later acquired the commercial real estate services business Newmark, which went public in 2017."
Yeah, it sure sounds like LLR-democratical Rich, who pronounced kamala a sure-fire, can't miss winner in the Presidential race AND that Stolen Valor Magic Spirit Jazzy Fingers Tim Waltz was not just a war hero (a la Audie Murphy) , but that he was the literal "perfect" choice as a VP, knows what he is talking about! You cannot spend hours poring over any LLR-democratical Rich "accurate" predictions....and the reason for that is obvious: there is no record of one.
None.

Just the next set of talking points....like this one!
Lutnick must have had some credibility at some point. Poor Guy. Being obliged to utter this nonsense and outright falsehoods publicly must be painful. It feels like Colin Powell forced to tell the UN about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
@Drago, are you sure Rich is worth that many keystrokes? He might be funny, in fact he's hilarious, but that's a lot of keystrokes my friend.
As to Lutnick, I agree completely. Cantor Fitzgerald had to rebuild after losing its HQ, over a third of its total employees, and most of its leadership. Not many people could have brought a firm back from that level of devastation.
Drago -- please explain the logic Lutnick is thinking when he says prices will come down? What forces does he think will come to bear that will push prices down?
A deep enough recession?
While Trump disagrees with basic economics, I doubt Lutnick does. He is blatantly lying. He knows US producers will sell at market clearing prices. Tariffs won’t be applied to just the bottom of the supply curve but the top of supply curve as well, which will drive prices up for all goods where marginal supply is imported from the 3 largest trading partners of the US.
When Joe Rogan interviewed chess GM Magnus Carlson, Carlson said he used to play chess under different names until another GM confronted him and told him all the pseudonyms Carlson was using. It’s amazing how difficult it is to hide under assumed names. There’s a commenter on another blog who (in my opinion) is really obnoxious and I always recognize him when he comments here - although he does it under different names.
The EPA declared CO2 a pollutant in 2009. Prior to that, it was (correctly) considered plant food. As a result of that determination, all kinds of stupid controls have been enacted.
The EPA can and should reverse that determination. While doing so would have innumerable practical benefits for the American economy, the best consequence would be the effect it has on the cranial integrity of leftists.

About 10 years ago, I was working for Intel, supporting a couple guys based in India. When we had online meetings, it would be very early here, and pretty late, almost midnight, there. In one of those meetings, there was a dog barking outside his window, and Shrinivas apologized for the noise. I said, "There is a dog barking, outside a window in Bangalore. And I can hear that dog, in Hillsboro, Oregon." We all got a laugh out of that. When the project was winding down, we had a final meeting. I told the two guys in India, that it had been a pleasure, and indeed an honor, to work with them. They enthusiastically reciprocated this sentiment. I offer this, not as some indication of my Multi-Culti virtue, but rather as an anomaly, a puzzle. Bangalore and Hillsboro are very nearly as far apart as two humans can be, without resort to spacecraft. We never met, and we never will. But those two Indians had the characteristic I call "straight-ahead". I admired them, I enjoyed working with them, and I was very pleased that they felt the same about me. Their regard meant more to me than that of vast numbers of people in the US, whom I have met, or will. How can that be? I mean, suppose they were on a planet orbiting Betelgeuse. Would it still be possible for us to form a bond, on the basis of working together, that outweighed any degree of physical proximity? There is a dog barking, in Bangalore. And I can hear him, in Hillsboro.

LOL
First, YOU owe us all a lifetime of explanations for every astonishingly stupid policy you passionately supported in just the last few years as well as every hoax you pushed that was transparently false and debunked in record time.
Let's start with the "easy" and most immediate ones: - Why did you openly lie along with the entirety of your party (and yes, that would be the dems and not the republicans that you lied about being a "lifelong" member of when you popped onto Althouse blog) about Biden's clear dementia for years and years and years? And why did every member of your party (again, the dems) lie with you? - Then lets go with how you spent years lying about non-existent, then transient, then low then, well, yeah, gee whiz, I guess that inflation was "a bit higher" than we all expected.....and for longer.....and actually alot higher..... - Make sure you cover how you guys lied for years, (again, years!) about the border supposedly not being open, but then being open but only because new legislation (BS "legislation") wasn't forthcoming from the Congress...and then how all that was Trump's fault. And now we know....just as you did then.....it was all another of your sad, exposed, pathetic lies. - And lets just top it off with something already mentioned this evening: your lunatic assertion in the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023 that ALL of Musk's companies were frauds and would collapse.
You go ahead and "explain" those first. And think of all the things there isn't time to mention!
I didn't even delve into the BS you peddled welll before the campaign, and then during the campaign...and initially after the campaign, and then later after the campaign and before the inauguration, and during the inaugural period, and then after the inaugural.....
Tariffs, bird flu and AI server farms will push prices up; increased drilling, less regulation all along the line, a closed border, smaller government, the Doge chain saw, ship building, tax changes, home manufacturing, a different budget in October, will push prices down. MAGA is happening!!! I know Canada is going to deal and I know Europe has no armies and I know no one wants Gazans and I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians have shot the Russians to pieces and we've got the Panama Canal back and there's something about Greenland. In short, long overdue change is happening without blood in the streets. Though we're still stuck with Harry and Meghan and Disney still thinks it's great.
Big Mike: "@Drago, are you sure Rich is worth that many keystrokes? He might be funny, in fact he's hilarious, but that's a lot of keystrokes my friend."
My responses to the Althouse LLR-Democratical Brigade members (Chuck previously, Rich and the moron lonejustice) are driven by multiple variables but most important of which is whether or not I'm on deadline for some deliverable and its kept me busy for extended periods of time so that I'm looking for a diversion to clear my mind. More often than not I don't respond at all to the serial insanity of the Althouse lefties, particularly if others are quickly pointing out the idiocy of their (& Rich's) Harry Sisson-like comments.
My parents lived in the subdivision where many mid-level Cantor Fitzgerald employees lived in Georgia. The 50 or so employees carpooled and drove to NYC that morning. They all lost hundreds of friends, spouses, and co-workers. Hotels didn't charge them. Restaurants didn't charge them.
When the Cantor employees were done with transferring operations, they didn't have to cook for months. The subdivision had made a rota of meals and deliveries and had already been babysitting and taking care of the spouses who had stayed behind.
That's middle-class America. And good multiculturalism. You can't destroy us.
A very frugal, second string, Hawks player lived behind my parents. Never had a dad. Neither did my father. My dad taught him how to mow his lawn and maintain the lawnmower. People wrastled about who would do the lawncare for the Cantor folk. My dad, raised in a workhouse, never had more fun than to walk his white self over to his neighbor's "starter house" and hustle the Hawks at pool. It was a sportsfan's dream come true. They mostly came from the projects and couldn't believe this skinny white guy with diabetes socks and sneakers and Montgomery Wards shorts could beat them, let alone fool them. He turned them on to the old James Bond movies. He really did hustle them at pool, though.
He and I were chased out of a biker bar in Bradenton once. They gave us ten seconds to get out the door.
The Hawks player had a really smart, non-cheerleader wife. She bought low and made a nest egg. The South Asians across the street got a bread machine and everyone found warm loaves on their stoops. They were very shy.
Screw other countries. We win because we have a middle-class, if we can keep it.
Kate: don't believe it. Every few years they have to cull flocks for bird flu.
I live next to ten large chichen hatching houses on one side and a smaller poultry farm on the other.
It's the wild birds you have to worry about. And ironically, the free-range wild birds. I do find them dead. I cannister mask up and put them in multiple bags, doused with bleach. Overkill, but I'm not well. I'm more worried about transmission to voles and rats, the cats, then we have a problem. Don't worry about gaing of function here.
Labcorp has begun spamming me with adverts for its direct-to-consumer testing services. Seems like a con job, complete with psuedo-testimonials. I never thought I'd feel so good knowing I was improving my overall cholesterol count!!!
Can't really blame them, repugnant as it is. In a world where people will pay money to learn the genetic lineage of their mixed breed dog, there must be plenty of guys who will pay money on a regular basis to know their testosterone levels.
I've used Labcorp recently and found it quite worthwhile. I wanted to see if I was hypothyroid because of recent fatigue, and I don't have a doctor and haven't been to one for at least 30 years. It turns out I was just overtraining because all of my blood work came back looking great. I backed off the running a bit and feel fine. I fail to see what is repugnant about providing useful health information.
Jupiter - I really don’t get why you seem to hate news in general and Israel in particular with the typical paranoia seen in Jew haters through millennia - they are all powerful and manipulate gentiles and seduce their women to make mixed raced mongrel babies - ok I don’t recall that last one I admit - but many of your posts are otherwise good including the two or three here.
And the new Canadian PM has announced as his major thrust - Net Zero.
Yep. Gotta get rid of all that carbon. So I guess they'll go all-in on solar and wind.
Solar. In Canada.

back in the 70s I had an assignment for several months in Newfoundland. That's a province in Canada, Vicki. As I drove back and forth from St John to Gander I passed the University. One building had an odd shaped roof line and I asked about it. "Oh, yeah . That's a solar roof with solar panels." The solar roof faced north. Add your Newfie jokes here.
Drago. Mostly I pass over the little coprophiles contributions. Dinkys manic ravings as well. I firmly believe there is an associative property to idiocy.

Wordle in 2 words again this morning!!
We outsource that.
Seems to me we all worry too much about too many things.
That’s my thought for today.
Wildswan- I like the cut of your jib.
The better lake ice sounds are the ice quakes when it's very cold and the ice is expanding.
Andrew Tate = no trust. hack.
Andrew Tate hates Trump, Musk, JD Vance and Ruibo, too.
Florida is the best run state in the nation.
And the new Canadian PM has announced as his major thrust - Net Zero.
Yep. Gotta get rid of all that carbon. So I guess they'll go all-in on solar and wind.
Solar. In Canada.
Sigh. Ain't no fool like a Greenie tool..."
back in the 70s I had an assignment for several months in Newfoundland.
Stephen Miller insisted that the US would send any foreigners sympathizing with terrorism home. Musk is supporting riots in the UK and elsewhere.

It would have even better if he looked like Fred Mertz in "I Love Lucy".
