Nice shots today. Wonder what day will be ice out for Mendota?.For my lake in Maine it's usually around April 15. Now's the time to start taking pictures of the mud. Things stained, things stuck,, the triumph of the muck.
Yes, I have fond memories of Maine in March. Just warm enough during the day to thaw enough for some lovely mud, then the puddles re-freeze with a nice glaze at night so you can bust your ass on them in the morning - while it's still dark.
Quick reminder to Althousian readers, recall LLR-democratical Rich called the selection of Stolen Valor Jazzy Spirit Fingers Tim Walz the absolutely perfect pick and Abacus Boy Rich declared Walz a war hero and a genius of sorts.
That's important context for this little exchange today:
"Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz looks like a deer in the headlights after CNN anchor Kasie Hunt asked, “Who is the leader of the Democratic Party?”
“I think the voting public, right now, is what I would say.”
“We’re not going to have a charismatic leader right in here and save us from this.”
“Our job is, of people who do have power to enact things. We d-mn sure better be doing it, and we better be there standing alongside them.”'--RedWave Press on X
Speaking of X, recall that in the Fall of 2022 and Spring of 2023, LLR-democratical Rich declared X dead and that it wouldn't survive the remainder of 2023. Abacus Boy Rich shouted from the rooftops that he was a business wunderkind and that he had "been in those rooms where big decisions are made".......and that was supposed to lend some heft to his moronic predictions!
Again, important context when you read the missives of our very own Reverse-Cramer!
There's a well written article at the Coffee & Covid SubStack, linked by Insty today, that makes a good case for how Trump's SCOTUS "loss" last week was more of a hot potato to the judge in the lower Court that ordered Trump to pay the USAID contracts. Long article but plain English description of how appeals work. And a surprising theory that all six conservatives are actually working together. Why dissenting opinions matter, especially this one, is also explained clearly.
But then I'm a sucker for lawyer-bloggers, because they have a pleasing way of writing with clarity.
When I look at the top photo and think about how all the polar bears have disappeared from Lake Mendota, a frozen tear melts, runs down my cheek, and pollutes the indigenous body of sacred water.
"The Secret to Great Pancakes Has Been in Your Pantry All Along." .... The writer informs us that eggs are 'expensive and hard to find right now', a good reason to not use them, plus her 'quick oats' pancakes taste better without them.
Quick poll: Who is having trouble finding eggs in the grocery store ? I have not seen a shortage. Anybody?
By the way, my secret to great pancakes is buttermilk, plus melted butter poured into the cold buttermilk (makes little granules of congealed butter), and cottage cheese. A hot griddle, and lots of maple syrup.
“Probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now. He wants to get it ended. And I think Ukraine wants to get it ended, but I don’t see. It’s crazy. They’re taking tremendous punishment. I don’t quite get it.”
Trump claims not to understand why Ukraine continues to fight. I suppose he does not believe that Russia has and is committing atrocities against civilians. I suppose he is ignorant of the history between Russia and Ukraine, the deliberate famines of the 20s and 30s.

The ignorance is all yours. There is no evidence of “racist” famines of the time. The famines were results of Communists policies of Soviet Communists; many of them hailed from Ukraine but there were also Georgians, Poles, Jews, Armenians and other nationalities, the true Socialist International.
There were no Russia or Ukraine in 1920-s or 30-s, only USSR.
Trump may be our first peacenik president, a Lennonist trying (in Former Sovietia, at least) to "break the cycle of violence."
Remember when you heard that phrase all the time?
Not to boast or anything (OK, maybe a little) but I said years ago that the most likely outcome would be a stalemate, with neither side being able to achieve anything decisive on the battlefield. Verdun or the Somme, with drones.
It's interesting how analogous Trump's position is to Wilson's in 1918-19. Trump is pursuing open covenants, openly arrived at, but without all the idealistic internationalist foofaraw.
Yes the Holomodor was real it happened in the 30, only Hearst really published the stories, whereas the Times Duranty covered them up, the film Mr Jones, paints Duranty as the worst type of toady, like 80% of the press now, the Times has not given up that Pulitzer, nor the work of Herbert Mattthews, glorifying Fidel, or Halberstam getting Vietnam from the getgo,
an interesting parallel wilson sent bullitt who was dismissed and ultimately had a life long aversion to him, he later ended up Ambassador to Russia, his prize, where he an awakening about the Soviets, unlike many of his predecessors like Joe Davis or Averill Harriman,
Nothing more common and more pathetic than dumb far lefties running around pretending they can read people's minds...which is why all leftist controlled entities end up promulgating thought crimes.

Make a habit of copying your post (to the clipboard) before hitting “Publish” and that problem (as a problem) disappears.
If you're using a regular keyboard, simply do a Ctrl-A (on Windows) or Cmd-A (on MacOS, iOS, or iPadOS) to select the text of your posting, then Ctrl-C (ditto1) or Cmd-C (ditto2) to copy it to the clipboard. (Android probably follows Windows, but I dunno.)
Then if your “Publish” fails, simply copy the clipboard text into the “Comment as” line (place the cursor then hit Ctrl-V or Cmd-V), then select “Publish” again.

This is a useful history. Russia, Russia, Russia. "…the full story of the worst scandal in American political history."
Down here in New Zealand, the trees are beginning to change color.

Hey ! How's the star-gazing going ?

Ten nights at a dark site and the only cloud-free observing I got in was 90 minutes before dawn on the last night. Classic.
You are lucky to get a Winter. Here in Western Oregon, all we get is rain, rain, rain. Although it's not raining at the moment.
Let's see ...

God's getting pretty good at abstract art. Thanks for displaying his latest stuff.

We know precisely what your commie pals did in the 20's and 30's and we will continue to work hard to prevent you guys from doing it again now.

Why would trump not understand ukraine fighting back?
He thinks a putin victory would "end it". for ukrainians the actual end would be years from now, in some arctic gulag.

Thanks, Michael. As it turns out my comment was merely delayed, not eaten, and I didn't have to frankenstein.
