Proposed museum installation: Loop this clip and project it endlessly onto each of the 4 walls of a darkened room.

I watched it 10 times and felt quite mesmerized:

Why can't The Soros blob, & wealthy Tom Hanks/Jimmy Kimmel/Joy Behar/ Maddow etc.. Hollywooders donate to NPR to keep it alive?
I'm not sure how much tax payer money gets to NPR - but it really should be zero.

RideSpaceMountain ayon kay ...

"I think our reverence for the truth might have become a bit of a distraction that is preventing us from finding consensus to getting important things done."

A feminine thought that echoes through some of the greatest catastrophes in history.

Jupiter ayon kay ...

Lying liars lie and lie,
Doo-dah! Doo-dah!

Jupiter ayon kay ...

How many middle-class tax-payers do you suppose it takes to support that evil lying whore? Thirty? Forty?

Breezy ayon kay ...

Does she even hear herself?

Iman ayon kay ...

High on her own supply of bullschiff.

Iman ayon kay ...

Yes, let them go, hat in hand, and ask those who find them enlightening for their “fundage”.

Amadeus 48 ayon kay ...

Reverence for the truth is a distraction that keeps us from getting important things done.
This is the perfect sentiment for a state propagandist. She is the anti-Socrates. I think she may have cooked the NPR goose. But all those fees for content come to NPR from universities both public and private. What is to be done?

Koot Katmandu ayon kay ...

I hope they do stop public funding for it. They have been political for years. There were some segments I liked in the past. Like Click and Clack. But not worth listing to the political bias on most of the shows. Democracy is mostly the opposite of name.

Josephbleau ayon kay ...

Our reverence for lies will provide a distinction that helps us all agree on and implement important actions.

Josephbleau ayon kay ...

But if you defund NPR you need to give me 3 or 4 tote bags to tide me over.

rehajm ayon kay ...

Many of us have known this has been their sentiment for a long time. Long before ‘it didn’t happen because NYT and WaPo didn’t report it happened’, long before the invention of ‘her truth’. Probably about the time the people in the war room paid bigly for the data that would confirm their policies were immensely popular with voters but they weren’t….

planetgeo ayon kay ...

Yes, if you're going to be a leftist, you simply have to get over your squeamishness about the truth. It's simply not possible to get all the marvelous things in your ideology done. Sooner or later some inconvenient truth just utterly destroys your beautiful narrative. Can't let that happen.

Freder Frederson ayon kay ...

Elon Musk, and apparently Althouse and most of her minions, don't have the first clue how Corporation for Public Broadcasting actually works.

If you zeroed out funding for CPB today, the NPR affiliates would, after some belt tightening, would survive. Ira Flatow would still be able to spread his poison on Science Friday, Terry Gross and Ira Glass would still be pushing communist propaganda. The stations that would be most affected would be those in small to medium towns, often ones that just broadcast the news summary at the top of the hour and maybe Morning Edition and All Things Considered. These stations fill the rest of their days with locally produced programs or play niche music (e.g., Jazz or Classical).

Eva Marie ayon kay ...

This is the adult equivalent of, “But Mom, all the kids do it.” Which is an interesting statement because both parent and child know it’s not true. Yet neither of them would categorize it as a lie.To do so would be a distraction from coming to a consensus and getting important things done.

Paul Zrimsek ayon kay ...

You keep using that word "reverence". I do not think that word means what you think it means.

J2 ayon kay ...

The installation would be best if the walls spoke in sequence rather than in unison

RideSpaceMountain ayon kay ...

You just made the case CPB can do without our tax dollars. Thank you Fredo. We have no more witnesses your honor, and the prosecution rests.

Rabel ayon kay ...

A pretty face can carry a girl a long way.

Drago ayon kay ...

"If you zeroed out funding for CPB today, the NPR affiliates would, after some belt tightening, would survive."

Let's find out.

rehajm ayon kay ...

The video cuts off where it does so you don't see her wave her hand in the Jedi Mind Trick fashion…Move along!

ChrisSchuon ayon kay ...

The "Soros blob" is, not surprisingly, actually USAID. The feds have been funding his destructive endeavors for decades. You don't think he spend his own money do you.

Jaq ayon kay ...

Notice how the attested fact that NPR withholds the truth from its audience, an audience which believes itself to be better informed than we reprobates, doesn't even enter into Freder's thoughts.

Freder Frederson ayon kay ...

Sorry, I meant to say "NPR affiliates in major markets would be fine". It would certainly lead to the bankruptcy of stations in small and medium markets, which get the lion's share Federal funding. For example, WNYC, the station I listen to, gets about 10% of its funding from CPB, the rest is covered by individual donors, corporate, and foundation gifts,

ChrisSchuon ayon kay ...

I hadn't looked at Maher's background before, but given her previous positions, there is no question in my mind that she is USAID/CIA.

hawkeyedjb ayon kay ...

Whatever has prevented them from "getting things done," it certainly hasn't been reverence for truth.

Freder Frederson ayon kay ...

Notice how the attested fact that NPR withholds the truth from its audience, an audience which believes itself to be better informed than we reprobates, doesn't even enter into Freder's thoughts.

True, I am not going to give much credence to a ten second clip posted by Elon Musk, who is about a big a bullshitter and liar as Trump.

Leland ayon kay ...

Exactly what does NPR offer in the 21st Century that can’t be obtained by any citizen through a different means? Funding NPR is like the public paying to maintain the telegraph service. When NPR was created, did we keep funding the Pony Express?

RideSpaceMountain ayon kay ...

"For example, WNYC, the station I listen to, gets about 10% of its funding from CPB, the rest is covered by individual donors, corporate, and foundation gifts,"

Just 10%? I mean what's 10% between friends like individual donors, corporations, and foundations. 10% is just 'walkin' around money' for those evil corporations.

Jaq ayon kay ...

"I am not going to give much credence to a ten second clip posted by Elon Musk"

You are such a perfect rube for those guys. This clip has been around for quite a while. Also she said that the Hunter Biden laptop was a distraction, with no regard as to its truth value. That was a case where she judged that the truth would get in the way of "getting things done."

RideSpaceMountain ayon kay ...

"Exactly what does NPR offer in the 21st Century that can’t be obtained by any citizen through a different means?"

The smug and unearned sense of self-importance obtainable only by listening to 24hr transsexual-focused programming?

Peachy ayon kay ...

Freder and most leftists prove that they are uninterested in the truth.
They are dedicated to their corrupt team-D - and that's all they need to know.

Peachy ayon kay ...

The left are collectively post truth.

chuck ayon kay ...

My thought exactly.

Lawnerd ayon kay ...

I listen to NPR when I drive to the gym. Getting angry helps with my bench press. Steve Inskeep is extremely biased. Yesterday he had two economists on ranting about Trump’s tariffs. I enjoyed how this became obsolete by the end of the day. Trump is moving too fast right now for the leftists news to keep up.

Gusty Winds ayon kay ...

Yinzer ayon kay ...

I am concerned that althouse was 'mesmerized. by this video. Hopefully she meant mesmerized in the way you are when you are witness to a horrible accident.

ron winkleheimer ayon kay ...

The argument from leftists when discussing defunding CPB is that, "it doesn't get that much funding from the government." Same for PBS. This isn't the killer argument they seem to think it is. The original justification for funding CPB and PBS was to provide programming that you couldn't get from the commercial networks because it would not be popular. So, in order to provide programming that was in "the public interest" the government would step in. Which in practice meant a lot of classical music and various BBC shows such as Dr Who and Keeping Up Appearances. Oh, and some children's programming. Now, its mostly leftist propaganda. Since there were only three broadcast networks and maybe a one or two local stations on UHF, there may have been some justification, but now we have the internet. If you want to produce left-wing propaganda and try to sell it to the public then do what everyone else is doing, get a YouTube channel and try to gather an audience.

Oh, and the left had a Joe Rogan, his name is Joe Rogan.

How different one's life is when one goes from age 15 to 45 as a sexually desirable, verbally facile, upper class woman. You can get away with practically anything.

n.n ayon kay ...

Public funding and privileged access.

gspencer ayon kay ...

Yes, as the lefty lady says, lets get important things done. Like de-funding the Ministry of Culture, NPR, PBS.

"But we would miss All Things Considered" where we make sure that all things are not considered."

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

That's not Elon Musk's clip. It's from a long video in which the lady freely spouted off. Freder really does have ostrich-like tendencies. And please save your crocodile tears about middle America's top-of-the-hour newsbreak. Nobody needs NPR's bullshit take on daily events to get their headlines.

Need it even be said you're wrong about the funding because like most leftist self-sustaining schemes, the federal funds are washed through the universities given production money, states given larger grants broken down into local grants by those state governments. And on and on. Little flows directly,/i> from DC into NPR bank accounts, but most of their funding is federal tax dollars, and therefore of interest to those of us unwilling to subsidize their commie crap.

Like Drago said: Let's find out.

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

She admires the ability of that rare speaker to deliver pure bullshit mellifluously, as if it were actually wisdom.

rehajm ayon kay ...

...I think we're going to learn we're still funding the telegraph service...

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

Correct. She ran an USAID-funded censorship program during the 2020 campaign, suppressing online mentions of COVID, the laptop, etc.

Quaestor ayon kay ...

Within a few months (if not several weeks) the Appropriations Committee will convene to discuss the fate of NPR and accusations against it as a corrupt propaganda organ of the Democratic Party. Katherine Maher will be invited to testify, which she will confidently accept.

I look forward to her own words being flung gleefully in her face.

Mike (MJB Wolf) ayon kay ...

NPR is still selling the "fine people" hoax on-air. Still. Them and PBS.

Two-eyed Jack ayon kay ...

All video installations suck. Yet somehow I end up in the room watching some poorly lit woman on infinite loop. This one is well lit, so it falls short of museum grade.

Anthony ayon kay ...

I listened to Talk of the Nation for a few years prior to the 2000 election. Ray Suarez was actually good in that role. They went off the rails after that. Friend of mine called it National Palestinian Radio.

KellyM ayon kay ...

Maintaining that there is little direct government funding for NPR/CPB is a bit disingenuous. What happens instead is the funding is filtered through various federal grants to foundations like Annenberg or Rockefeller, or the like. And where does a ton of the grant money originate? I bet it's USAID.

chuck ayon kay ...

Trump isn't that hard to understand. It is amazing how badly the highly educated misjudge him, they have never visited that world, it is alien to them.

Jerry ayon kay ...

I'm sure PBS gets a good cut from toy sales. Peppa pig, Sesame Street and the like, right? How much does that come out to per year?

Rocco ayon kay ...

rehajm said...

This isn’t the graft you’re looking for.

Jerry ayon kay ...

The OODA loop. He's doing too much, too fast. By the time they've decided how to spin how bad Trump is on Issue A, he's working on Issue F, and B, C, D, and E are hanging out there for everyone to see in all their ugly glory...

And decide for themselves without 'interpretation' by the media talking heads. (Which I'm noticing aren't having near the influence these days they used to. All that stored credibility's pretty much used up, leaving the tank almost dry...)

n.n ayon kay ...

Mesmerized, slanted, even.

Lawnerd ayon kay ...

It is sad that we do not have a functional press. The Biden dementia cover-up story should have been award winning news - on equal magnitude with Watergate in my opinion. Not one major newspaper went after this story. It was screaming at them right in their face. Sad.

Tom Locker ayon kay ...

When it's defunded they should also be prohibited from using the names PBS and/or NPR. Get a new brand and compete on the open market.

Saint Croix ayon kay ...

Yikes!

Amazing to want to have "consensus" that is false and wrong. Why?

Fred Drinkwater ayon kay ...

NO! NPR provides me with a vital service. I listen to them regularly. Its the BEST way to know what stories are important. I mean, the ones they don't cover, and the facts they leave out. Irreplaceable!

Public broadcasting gets about $1.50 per capita from the federal government. The NEA gets about 60 cents. These are not meaningful amounts, far less than what the average Republican voter saves each year by cheating on their taxes.
