The NYT reports.
The accusation of "inhumane treatment" referred to our use of military planes rather than passenger planes.
According to a statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, "Colombian President Petro had authorized flights and provided all needed authorizations and then canceled his authorization when the planes were in the air."
Petro's reversal followed on a complaint from Brazil’s foreign ministry about the "'degrading treatment' of its citizens after 88 migrants arrived in the country handcuffed on Friday and some complained of mistreatment after not being given water or allowed to use the bathroom during the flight."
AND: Here's something Trump posted on Truth Social while this faceoff was under way:

Oh no! A criminal was handcuffed!! The horror. I'm not sure how many bathrooms there are on a C137
* Trump sends illegals back to Colombia
* Colombia refuses flights
* Trump levels Colombia with tariffs
* Colombia folds fast and sends Presidential plane to come get those same illegal immigrants
Some will no doubt clutch their pearls and murmur about how Trump isn't nice. Well, we didn't elect him to be nice. Trump 2.0 understands the nature of leverage and power, and has been unbound to wield it. As he wrote when addressing Putin, "We can do things the easy way or the hard way." We still have the world's largest economy, and other nations can either be cooperative and get friendly deals from us, or they can be uncooperative and get tariffs and travel bans for their elites. There was an awesome AI picture of Trump as a gangster with a FAFO sign that he X-tweeted last night, and it illustrated it perfectly: If you want a piece of the action, you would be much better off being cooperative. Trump will probably still have to make an example or two, pour encourager les autres, but once he does that, expect most countries to fall into line.
Columbia (and other Latin American countries) are trying to save face per routine claims of American Imperialism in local politics. Biden's policies were purely about sticking it to Trump and gaming the elections, so imperialism is not relevant at all.
And, no one wants the gangs of criminals who migrated to the US under Biden. Including NYC and Martha's Vineyard.
Weird. Yesterday CNN was telling me how Columbia had retaliated and this was all so very bad for the United States because of that ogre Trump.
"The accusation of "inhumane treatment" referred to our use of military planes rather than passenger planes."
Using military planes isn't "inhuman treatment". Strapping parachutes and a static line to them and pushing them out of the plane so it doesn't have to land is inhumane. Inhumane, and fucking hilarious.
Were the 88 illegal immigrants from Brazil part of the first wave of violent criminals? The phrasing by NYT just about guarantees it…
The NYT article refers to the back-and-forth on X, but not surprisingly, does not detail how coked-up/batshit-crazy Petro sounded on his longest tweet.
I don’t understand the propaganda here. Even the leftie polling concluded most voters made removing illegals a top priority. NYT is confirming it’s happening. How does that help their side?
According to what was reported on Instapundit, Trump issued his tariff order while on the third hole of a golf course, and Columbia capitulated before he reached the eighth. I also read that he broke par on that bird hole and was two under for his round. I think that’s pretty good.
I thought the handcuffs were for the safety of the flight crew.
I'm guessing Trump's plan is: (1) criminals will be deported first, (2) pregnant women and "anchor baby" teams second, and (3) non-violent workers last. He will try to remove 100% though. Just my prediction.
With Laken Riley’s killer I recommend not using the parachute.
People should pay attention to the difference in meaning between "cogent" and "trenchant." That is all.
You're already blinded as a people because you invest in an eye-for-an eye. That's why those little red-headed Israeli innocents will be coming home dead, if they even come home at all. You explain to that family why it was necessary to kill those children, even if nobody bothered to gauge out their little boy eyeballs pursing your Jewish OT mentality.
The Jews never learn, for such an allegedly smart people... I'm sorry for those red-headed boys, even if you just chalk it up as the cost of doing business. Children should never be targed in legit warfare.
Yet you here have hardened your hearts so, all you can say is, "More eyeballs please!"
They are under the impression that if they report that Trump is keeping his promise, somehow that’s going to turn people against him. We’re dealing with a metastatic TDS.
Poor Jews walking around blind today with that OT morality... Child killers. We see it. Have they always been this way, putting their own before LIFE? No wonder they die so young for the most part, and always have those dark circles under the eyes. They don't much value life, do they?
certainly makes me want THIS President to play a LOT of golf!!
fore!
"With Laken Riley’s killer I recommend not using the parachute."
Queridos ilegal asesinos, hay paseos gratuitos en helicóptero en el aeropuerto! Sí, absolutamente gratis!
Now liberals are complaining that Trump was taking a vacation, i.e. playing golf, only four days in. But Trump was multitasking, playing golf and dealing with Columbia at the same time.
Our office is in the same building as a Columbia Embassy. On July 13, 2022 I took a photo of about 200 migrants waiting outside on the sidewalk for their appointment there. This morning at 7:30AM there were only about a dozen waiting downstairs. Is that improvement?
Because I am a Christian.
It kills me to work and have my tax dollars given to the Rich Israelis who all these years in are relying on the American taxpayer to "defend us, we poor Holocaust survivors in our sanctuary religious state the post-war Brits gifted us".
You can't keep KILLING KIDS and not expect the world to object. If you don't value human life, you can pretty much expect your tribe to keep taking horrific losses like back in the mid 20th century.
If Iran doesn't nuke Israel, another nation will. You can't kill children and not expect justice to come for your own... #Reality
The left claim to hate guns but lovelovelove playing with them. They feel the same about golf…
My thoughts exactly.
88?
There's no way we're going to be able to fly millions of people back home. So what's the plan?
This is going to hella expensive. The people in the NGOs and what not that organized this invasion need to be prosecuted.
Columbia and Brazil degraded their own people when economic and living conditions were so back they had to walk to the southern border.
Why can’t we fly millions back home? I realize aircraft operations are expensive, but compared to housing say 88 immigrants for a week, a flight home seems reasonable. Yes, those involved in trafficking humans into the US should be made to compensate for repatriating these humans. If you think flying home is expensive, then imagine spending your family fortune to travel weeks to the US, suffering assaults among other discomforts, then arriving to your destination, and then being sent back to the beginning in hours. When more people realize this cost, then they may reconsider what they can afford.
The Colombian leader tried to shift focus to something unimportant. (how dare you use military planes to disrespect our citizens! We will refuse the flight!)
The only way to respond to to fearlessly focus minds on the important. (You can try this for awhile, but we'll kill your economy in the meantime.)
Oh, I see. I understand much better now. Use MY plane!
Wash, rinse, repeat. This is possible if you don't quake at the thought of being called a bully by some reporter who hates your guts.
Send 'em back on Spirit for the ultimate inhumane conditions.
Good stuff, Cappy! 😆
that's "Colombia"
So what if it is gonna be hella expensive. Some things that need doing are hard. Maybe it takes the entire 12 years of maga potus’s to get it done. So what?
…thing is Colombia should is a relative success story in that part of the world. Not long ago the murder capital run by cartels they’ve found relative peace, tourism, economic growth…because they did everything the US demanded. With the Biden administration we kind of failed them…
thank you
This event also shows Trump was right. They DID empty their prisons and dump criminals into America with Biden's help. Now they don't want them back.
We have military planes flying training flights all the time. Flying "migrants" back home seems like a great training exercise.
I think starting with high-profile raids is meant to spark a wave of self-deportations by those who no longer receive government aid and who may struggle to find work given the crackdown on hiring. Self-deportations cost $0 each. A notable percentage of those coming in still reside in border states where the return can be car, bus, or...foot.
Have you ever driven along Interstate 10 near El Paso, Texas? There are lots and lots of shacks along the river on the Mexican side. These seem to be pre-or-post US entry immigrant housing.
Self deporting is real.
I didn't say we shouldn't do it. I said it was going to be expensive and the people who brought this on us need to pay a price for it.
As a former paratrooper, I approve of your message and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Well done.
This just proves that even when Trump is relaxing playing golf, he’s still doing his job as needed. The contrast with Slow Joe Biden eating ice cream and laying on the beach could not be more stark.
And, no one wants the gangs of criminals who migrated to the US under Biden. Including NYC and Martha's Vineyard.
Or the nation of Columbia apparently.
Strapping parachutes and a static line to them and pushing them out of the plane...
Possible solution to for the countries who won't take their citizens back. Has anyone informed Trump and Homan?
Hell of a lot more to keep them here and support them.
Its as though a higher power had designed a specific experiment in foreign policy leverage re:tariffs and other tools to publicly embarass, again, LLR-democratical Rich ("kak"), Field Marshall Freder and every other dopey lefty at Althouse and elsewhere...and it worked within about an hour!
And it was glorious.
"As a former paratrooper, I approve of your message and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Well done."
Just to show how humane I am, any illegal alien jumpers with the cojones to exit the aircraft of their own volition instead of being pushed should receive a little set of jump wings. Airborne recognize airborne. They can think of it as a parting gift from a grateful nation...grateful to be rid of them.
I think the complaints were about how much they were charged for those little bitty bags of peanuts.
And the in-flight movie sucked. And was in French.
Yep and they don't realize that even the Harris voters are soon going to figure out that the NYT and CNN thinks that illegals have more rights than citizens. It's not going to go well for them when that happens.
GREEN LIGHT! ... ON!
I'm old enough to remember when you all were absolutely livid any time Obama was shown playing golf.
Columbia's "success" shifted the gangs north to Mexico and south to Ecuador. Ecuador welcomed cocaine smugglers into its major port city of Guayaquil. A former leftist Ecuadorian government said "If you leave us alone we'll leave you alone." It didn't work, and sparked a major drug war with curfews and tourist killings in a once-peaceful country. Mexico fully lost control over many regions per rampant assassinations and corruption.

Think of the unintended consequences, though. 19 year old me would sneak into the country and turn myself in just for the chance to do a 10,000 foot zip line.
Sovereign jurisdiction comes with rights and responsibilities in domestic and foreign affairs.
So we should drive them in trucks? Put them on boats? What is the alternative?
Emigration reform to mitigate progress and collateral damage at both ends of the bridge and throughout. Keep families together. Think of the babies... fetuses yet to be born.
So we should blame Colombia for causing problems trying to solve their own?
If they're from Mexico, they can easily self-deport, but if they've come all the way from South America through the Darien Gap, they're going to need some kind of passage home. They didn't come all that way without help. The narrative is that they did, but in reality, they were helped, guided and supported by the NGOs.
I don't think flying them all is practical. I agree we should send them all back. I think we must. So I wonder if there is a plan for transporting the enormous numbers besides flying them in little groups. They must be exploring other means.
The 'so what' is, it really pisses me off that we have to spend this money. There are so many other things we could have spent it on. Prison for the people who created this mess in a blatant attempt to subvert democracy and drive down wages.
It's Colombia, for heaven's sake. Columbia is the anti-Semitic university.
Boatbuilder, my thoughts as I was writing my previous. Same goes for the military cleaning up WNC. I’m sure those involved prefer to be doing something useful than just another training mission.
I don’t remember that part Freder. But I do remember being livid about the times Michelle jaunted off with 200 of her closest friends to various vacation spots.
Water is the primary GHG forcing climate change. The waiting time to use the bathroom on a plane with refried bean meal service is outrageous. I can't strangle or rape... rape-rape. My government will hear of this transhumane therapy.
This malicious misspelling has AI fingerprints all over it.
C-130 rollin’ down the strip
Thousands of illegals on a one-way trip
Public mission, destination known
They're crying because they know they're going back home
When that C-130 gets up so high
Thousands of illegals are taking to the skies
Stand up Juan & Maria, and shuffle to the door
Their knees get weak cause they know what's in store
The jumpmaster says "ADIOS!" as they're pushed out with ease
Thousands of illegals just floating in the breeze...
@ Madison Man
That was my question. Everybody got excited and assumed I meant we shouldn't deport.
Maybe we could take them by ships that make port calls and offload them. I don't know the answer. It was a question.

If you’re talking about - amount other things - the NGOs and relief organizations, I agree. Their US government funding should be cut off, and they should be penalized. Is there a RICO case for conspiracy to commit immigration fraud?
don't leave out rail cars > some even came on those??!!!
Is it just me or does anyone else get an image of spittle flying whenever they read on of Freder's posts?
Well, the university is like a foreign country to the rest of America. Maybe Columbia should open an embassy.
Français! Merde alors. Pas étonnant qu'ils aient été contrariés !
Their model of emigration reform in conspiratorial service of transnational immigration reform and Democratic gerrymandering.
El Salvador should be the new global headquarters for INTERPOL.

Teh interwebz sez there’s a urinal and a commode out in the open. I hope nobody ate a stuffed burrito before the flight.
For those who don't recall, Freder is exaggerating our reaction to Obama playing golf in exactly the same circumstance that Bush had been strongly and widely criticized for by the biased media. We simply pointed out that Obama was NOT being treated by the press in the same way for the same thing. To a Leftist like Freder that's coded as "livid" and "every time." They are very very sensitive to criticism of their Cult Leaders.
fighting the mob left - like a boss.
Ruinous Soros mob let them in. Get them all out.
Gee? - we are all shocked the MSM are whining about it.
Hopefully all the illegals get more free stuff on the airplane.
So we're already seeing proof of concept in regard to Trump's deportation plans. Leftwing politicians who previously said they would not cooperate with ICE are now publicly changing their tune, saying they support removal of alien criminals. And the example of Colombia shows that countries will be forced to take them back.
Self-deportation is going to need to be a big part of this, however, if Trump and Homan are going to thin the herds of illegals by millions and millions, as promised. Presumably they are looking at ways to cut off the spigot of financial support that aliens receive. If, e.g., they can turn off the phones and debit cards that the NGOs hand out, what choice will most illegals have but to go back to where they came from? It's one thing to come to the U.S. knowing that you will be not just taken care of, but affirmatively welcomed. It's another when you have no real means of support and you have to dodge ICE all the time.
C'mon Drago let's throw all the Bulwark and NRO jerks under that bus too. Just one example: Stephen F Hayes cried all during 2016 race that Trump's tariffs were going to ruin our economy, which of course they didn't. Because like now back then it was the threat of tariffs that did the work Trump said they would. Just like this present example. Yet Mr. Hayes is still doing his Chicken Little act because of Trump's tariff talk. I just wish some intrepid reporter would ask his to show us where the tariffs actually hurt us during Trump's first term. Just point it out Steve!
Mike. Freder is just pissed that Trump is making him show up for work every day.
In the words of a our nation's greatest immigration zealot: "Well son of a bitch..."
Don't watch that crap.
RSM, It's not inhumane, it's FUN! I used to do that.

Shoot them out of a cannon. Artillery crews are trained to the standard of shooting a shell 75 miles and hitting inside of a 6 foot radius every time.
I forgot about that Rusty.
Not as expensive as giving them benefits and housing and enduring their crimes.
Keep flying. Send Colombia et al the bill.
He's Elliot Ness. Cept with a nicer hat.
Especially in this first round the guys on that flight were very bad, violent criminals. If El Presidente does send his own plane I highly recommend the prisoners be handcuffed at a minimum. His call.
All during a golf game, where he came in under par. I think that he may have done it this way, because he was accused of playing too much golf in his first term.
Trump made an offer they couldn’t refuse.
"Is it just me.."
No.
"C'mon Drago let's throw all the Bulwark and NRO jerks under that bus too"
I assumed that was understood general header of "dopey leftists" which has long included the faux-con/neo-cons and has captured about 50% of the google-funded National Review.
Buckley weeps from the grave.
Not my point. Columbia moved the problem, but didn't solve a single thing. The cartels have lots of money and bribes work wonders with many people.
I'm old enough to remember when you all were absolutely livid any time Obama was shown playing golf
@Freder, did Obama accomplish anything while he was out golfing? Like force a tinpot Marxst dictator to do a 180 degree about face on an issue? Do you think that may have something to do with our different views of the matter? Just thought I’d ask on behalf of the Normal people among us.
@MJB Wolf, Freder is a clown; just laugh at him.
@Bob Boyd, yes, flying the deportees out of the country will be expensive, but it’s not as though the Navy’s troop transport ships are any damned good thanks to spending money on DEI instead of ship maintenance.
The corrupt lying left are fine with forcing us to pay for illegals in hotels and other accommodations.
The Colombian President will probably regret his choice when his personal airplane comes back with the upholstery sliced and graffiti covering it.
Well Geez. Didn't these guys deserve a first class flight to Bogota? Or to Rio De Janeiro. Comfy seats, a nice pillow, lunch on china plates and free champagne? Where is the old Pan Am airlines when these returnees need it?
Nobody can work 24 x 7. We all need some time off. It doesn't matter if it's Obama or Trump. In fact, if you don't like the President, maybe you should encourage him to take more time off, otherwise it's like the complaint about the restaurant where the food is terrible and the portions are too small.
I'm surprised the media hasn't claimed that 88 illegals is some coded neo-Nazi message.
For normal Presidents their really is no such thing as a vacation.
No matter where you are there is a security briefing in the morning and a Military Officer with the nuclear football standing just out of frame of the photos.
I quit caring about "too much golf" "too many vacations" a long time ago.
For Biden he was never really president, it was just the committee.
I'm old enough to remember when you all were absolutely livid any time Obama was shown playing golf.
You're such a liar. I doubt anybody was livid any time Obama was golfing. Let alone all of us.
We were mocking him, jackass. Because he sucked.
take them by ships that make port calls and offload them
===========
so who has experience stacking people in 12 inch spaces in leg irons
or President may hide contraband in the plane?
I hope this won't shock everyone too much, but Bloomberg are now reporting that the deal done between the US and Colombia may not have been the 100% victory for Trump that his team portrayed it as. I know, it's shocking and so very out of character, but it seems he may not have been totally straight with reporters. Who of course believed every word without checking, because why would you check something Trump says?
Anyway, the current suggestion seems to be that the concession made by Colombia was that the US can use military planes of the Colombians and they can't provide enough flight capacity but otherwise it will be done their way.
Dialling down the cynicism for a bit, this isn't all that surprising. Trump didn't need to win this fight -- his objective was to make sure other countries know he's serious about tariffs (achieved) and to get out of the fight with a deal he could present as a victory (also achieved). He's even got Colombia to provide the planes instead of him having to do it. And his supporters will never notice if he didn't actually get any of the things he demanded. Job done, move on to the next target to be bullied. And the Colombian government get to tell their voters about how they stood up to the Yankees. Everyone's a winner. Well, everyone except the people on the flights.
Trump just wanted the price of coffee to go up with the eggs and bacon to keep everything consistent.
A train brought them here and a train can take them back. I see trains 2 miles long passing through my town every week. Hundreds of cattle cars can take tens of thousands every trip. Load 'em up and start sending them south! Choo-choo!!
