Looks cold. Glad that stuff didn’t make it to Houston.
"Mine were the first footprints:"
I always feel a bit guilty about that.
It's quite mild today. Just got back from a 5 mile walk.
Glenn Greenwald on X:
"It's taken longer than many people anticipated for The Huffington Post to finally collapse and close fully.
But with yesterday's announcement that they're laying off another 30 people, and now the Editor-in-Chief leaving, it seems quite imminent."
I guess they can join the other Bluesheviks at Blue Sky.
Took the dogs out and they loved the snow. They were so excited they would not poop, and waited to hit the bedroom carpet. Schnauzers are that way, too German.
Today I ended up listening to some early '70s albums by Jonathan Edwards, who is best know for his song "Sunshine (Go Away Today)" from 1971. One thing I noticed, especially on Edwards' first self-titled album, was that he sounded a lot like Stephen Stills, especially the vocals on the first Manassas album. Given that the first Manassas album is one of my all-time favorites, that is high praise. The other thing I noticed is that on later albums, he fell into a rut of singing a lot of self-referential songs about the music business. There probably should be a rule about no more than one of those songs per album.
Headline: "Justice Alito's Call With Trump 'Entirely Inappropriate'—Legal Analyst"
That's BS.
My God, that's not America, that's siberia. Cue: Lara's theme.
Julie Christie was one of those weird actresses that looks incredibly beautiful from one camera angle, and strange looking from another.

Bluesheviks- I like that so much I am going to steal it!
You know how Democrats and feminists are always going on about how the world would be so much better if we put women in charge? Peace would guide the planets, love would steer the stars, that sort of thing? Well, in recent weeks, we've seen catastrophes in places like New Orleans and Los Angeles where women are in charge, and it kind of pops that balloon. This is not to say that women cannot be capable, only that the DEI hires in those places do not seem to be.
In Wisconsin get out this weekend. Next week it’s going to be brutally cold.

There's a difference between hiring a woman because she's competent and hiring her because she has a vagina.
The Left doesn't understand this.
"The Left doesn't understand this."
Understandable, as the left can't define what a woman is, yet continually lectures us on how we are supposed to elevate "them".

I know it's not you speaking, but California has had a lot of these fires. Do you know what those homeowners have gone through when they try to rebuild?
Water company admits their big reservoir to fight fires was bone dry
LAFD had 3 water tanks of 1 million gallons each available to them to fight the Palisades fire. A 117 million gallon reservoir that they should have had available was empty.
Bluesheviks: brilliant!
Should they rebuild a house or go somewhere else?
The fires in the rich areas will break the need to have a base there for at least 5 years. Malibu can't be rebuilt because the blue haired coastal commission requires obedience. This is like COVID. Hollywood idols will work from home and they don't need the town.
Hollywood will move to Texas.
@MadTownGuy, "Bluesheviks"? Consider the term stolen!
Sounds like rebuilding will be damn near impossible.
Uh oh. LLR-democratical Rich's beloved New Soviet Democraticals in LA leadership have pulled out the knives and are targeting each other out of incompetence driven desperation.
DEI hire fire chief publicly declares the city mayor and leadership failed her department and DEI electee mayor, just a few hours later, fires DEI Fire Chief.
Full Menshevik vs Bolshevik stuff.
I had a very early airport run this morning, so on the way in, I listened to NPR. I got the BBC news, which provided a primer on propaganda, on how to turn news material into narrative messaging.
They led with Climate Change. It's official, according to their sources (which are official) that we've just had the hottest year on record ! Something must be done ! Lots of 'experts' weighing in to add to the gravitas of the 'proof' that we must do something right away.
This now led into (you probably guessed) LA's wildfire disaster - which everybody knows, is due to Climate Change ! These winds never blew before, or if they did they weren't as hot as they are now, or as windy !
And speaking of the hottest year on record, there's also Trump ! He's going to back out of the UNs Climate Protocol and that will be disaster ! And by the way, he's going to be a felon today. Did I mention, this is the first time it's happened, the disgrace to the Office of the President ? A felon ! And a Climate Criminal that will destroy the Earth and make it even hotter !
It's not what the news stories are, it's how they are emphasized, prioritized, and ordered, how they are linked, how they are timed. Don't believe anything that you hear on mass media without questioning every aspect of it in your mind.
It gets worse for the Althouse usual suspects: Meta has ordered its NY and LA offices to remove the tampon dispensers from the mens bathrooms.
Does this step destroy the last vestiges of the wholly bizarre and creepy kamala/Stolen Valor Walz's LGBTQLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ -driven faux "Joy" campaign?
According to LLR-democratical Rich, "climate change" would not allow the democraticals to fill the reservoir.
Just one of many "interesting" LLR-democratical theories pushed by Rich and the runt of the LLR-democratical litter, lonejustice.
Words have no power. Presidents and congress have power. Wait until 1 20
At the time of this post, there are reports the fire chief has not been fired.
California’s Democrat Lawmakers in the Assembly Gavel Into Special Session to… Give Newsom $25 Million to Fight Trump
Wish I could draw... I'm thinking of a cartoon, with the CA legislature handing a $25 million golden violin to a toga-clad "Nero" Newsom as LA burns.
I want to state a principle: The one and only goal of the Trump Administration is to guarantee that the senate and congress in 26 is repub. Can you feel me, can you get this simple fact under your skin. Can you dig this as your greatest need when you are polled for your opinion on the phone when called by pollsters?
The Trump admin must focus on the house and senate in 26. Spend your money there. Or be a flash in the pan looser.
You need to do this for yourselves.
Fetterman plans a trip to Mar-a-Lago. Not the White House but Mar-a-Lago - our modern day Xanadu

“Wish I could draw... I'm thinking of a cartoon, with the CA legislature handing a $25 million golden violin to a toga-clad "Nero" Newsom as LA burns”
This is excellent.
Power for power's sake? Might as well be a democrat.
I can think of several more important goals. One is closing the border. I imagine you'll argue that if the Repubs lose Congress they won't be able to achieve their goals. I will counter that if they don't rack up some achievements now, they'll guarantee their losing in 26.
Like Manafort and Stone and that grift trump should pardon Rudy who is taking beating over spreading trump bullshit. WTF was is this perp still going to court? Giuliani, who lacks the financial resources to pay this judgment in full and faces the potential seizure of many of his assets, was already held in contempt of court once over failure to properly follow instructions during the discovery process of the suit.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, who presided over the hearing, lost her patience with Giuliani, laying into him during the proceedings, noted Politico's Kyle Cheney.
It is outrageous and shameful that Mr. Giuliani suggests that he is the one being treated unfairly," said Howell, reminding him that Freeman and Moss lost jobs and were subject to death threats over his baseless allegations that they were passing around a flash drive full of fake ballots. "This takes real chutzpah, Mr. Giuliani." DONT SAY ITS OUTRAGEOUS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT for Gods sake,,This two tier justice system is getting more and more ridiculous. This fella is a goner....
Have your goals thus. Philosophy and Truth are the refuge of the conquered.
If you were an essentially nasty person, how would this post be different?
K
I have been watching politics for decades now, and it never changes. "When we win the NEXT election, then we can achieve all our utopias." It never happens.
Take the power you have now and do some good.
Was the lack of controlled burn an effort to reduce CO2? Because...
You know how Democrats and feminists are always going on about how the world would be so much better if we put women in charge?
@Clyde, I’d flip this. I can imagine a United States without Democrats or feminists or any other parasites on the hard work of the American workers and middle class, and it is a country where people are not chosen for positions of responsibility because they check boxes on a DEI form, but because they can actually do the job. In North Carolina there’s a girl who’d be enjoying her senior year of high school playing on the varsity volleyball team instead of recovering from a brain injury thanks to a guy who said “I’m trans” to get on his high school’s volleyball team — and then he spiked the ball in her face hard enough to cause the brain injury. Maybe without Democrats the people in Western North Carolina would have shelter and receive genuine assistance rebuilding their homes and their lives. Maybe without Democrats Lahaina would not have burned. Maybe without Democrats Jewish students could attend classes at Ivy League universities without fear. Imagine a university where professors teach their subject matter instead grading student on how well they can vomit Lefty BS back onto he pages of a blue book.
I read that the controlled burn was cancelled because if it got away from the folks doing it, it could help Trump.
I've been comparing the LA Dem response to that of Ron DeSantis. De Santis said approximately this. "We have hurricanes here every year. And every couple of years we have a huge one. We know how to do this. " And they did. First of all, DeSantis was present and making decisions. Then, DeSantis and Co. knew there would be a storm surge and spent time figuring out where it would be and warning people who were in the path to evacuate. Extra gas at gas stations. Highway lanes altered by a plan. Explanations about what to do and where to go on a county-specific basis based on the storm track. An understanding that once ashore the storm might stall and dump huge amounts of rain somewhere. A plan for that.
Compare and contrast. The Dems have been saying for years that climate change will make each fire season worse, especially when the Santa Anna winds blow. The insurance companies were cancelling policies and leaving the state. But nevertheless extra training for large-scale fires was cancelled by those who were saying large-scale fires would occur. This training would have shown that there would be difficulties other than those encountered in regular house fires - a point that seems to have surprised the Dems of LA. "You mean a large-scale fire such as we predict might require extra training or special planning? Uh, uh. Cut the budgets, forget the planning, send all Fire Department money to the illegals." The fire season approached, the Santa Anna was about to begin to blow. As usual. And did the Mayor of LA or the Governor of California do a Ron DeSantis and say: "This happens every year and this year looks unusually bad but we've prepared, we've got this?" No. The Mayor of LA left the country to have some fun. The Governor mislaid his book of important numbers to call in case of fire A major reservoir was left unfilled. Citizens weren't warned to be ready to evacuate. They didn't know how monitor the flames or where to go. And then while LA began to burn, and people were dying and people crying outside their lost homes, the Dem "leadership" stood about, and whined about how surprising it was to see a large, dangerous wildfire in California. Who knew. What could anyone do? And went back inside their large, intact mansions to another party.
The opinion I have of the Dems is this: the only surprise is that they haven't blamed Trump. Yet.
Just the beginning LAWFARE you got it ALITO ,CANNON thomas ginny The U.S. Supreme Court has a mounting credibility problem with the American public — and Justice Samuel Alito isn’t helping. Why should he care? Who will make him?
On Tuesday, just hours before Donald Trump’s legal team asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene and pause his sentencing today in the New York case involving hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, the president-elect and the conservative justice talked on the phone.
This is highly unusual. And while Alito told ABC News that they only discussed one of his former law clerks who applied for a job with the incoming administration, there’s no actual reason for Trump himself to be conducting a reference check for a staff position. (As Slate observed, the former clerk worked for Alito more than a decade ago, and also served as a chief of staff to attorney general Bill Barr four years ago; Trump and Alito had no need for a call to vouch for his bona fides.)
Let’s say Alito merely sang the praises of his clerk, and Trump – as has been suggested — somehow disciplined himself and asked only specific questions about the applicant's qualifications. This doesn’t pass the most basic smell test.
Put aside for a moment that the gilded career path from Alito’s chambers into the Trump administration exemplifies why majorities of Americans understand the Roberts court and its decisions as another extension of partisan politics, not law. Trumpeters,,hey no problem just a friendly chat hours before sentencing.(ALITO voted no sentencing of course)cmon man..In your face ,grin and bear it !! Do you really believe trump does reference checks,,yeah probably you believe he won in 2020.
Care to share a a link or two regarding your assertions?
Next up for Dinky Dau and LLR-democratical Rich: 51 leading fire "experts" declare the LA fires "story" a right wing neo-nazi disinformation campaign driven hy russian intel services.
I've cleared 4-6 inches off my driveway more then a half dozen times. Total snow currently on the ground in the middle of yard- about 14 inches. Everything that's fallen in the last 10 days has been light fluffy stuff. Only took the tractor out once- the other times I pushed the snow aside with a shovel. Didn't actually lift any up... After the light fluffy stuff sits for a while it packs down.
Lake effect is very fickle and unpredictable. The first weekend winter storm warning the prediction was 1-2 feet of snow. We got one 4" dusting. The two days after that before the next winter storm warning went into effect I cleared the driveway off 3 times. According to radar and weather com it's snowing here right now. I just walked in the door a few minutes ago and I'm about to take the dog out. It's not snowing...
On one site or another today I saw a video of two miniature dachshunds running around a racetrack shoveled into the snow- that was deeper then them. That's what I have in my front yard for our mini dachshund. She doesn't like jumping into snow deeper then her. My neighbor's husky has come over to visit me several times. She loves the snow. Amazon called us the other day and the delivery driver wanted me to go out and bring my dog in. I was at work- "My mini-dachshund? She's friendly. Nothing to be scared of." "No, a big husky!" "Oh, that's my neighbor's dog. She's friendly. Give me a moment to call my wife- she'll come out and get the package..." Yes, ruralville has leash laws, and there's only a few of us who keep our dogs fenced in. AFAIK, there are no Karens bad enough to call animal control...
Clyde === my man!!
Of course he does. Hunter and his new great grand kid supposedly live in the area..... He is the most divisive President ever....even over Hussein Obama. And yet, they wonder why Americans chose Trump who loves America and the American people....

The Biden Administration has now promised to cover 100% of recovery costs for Los Angeles for six months.
But they gave 3500 homeless Appalachian families another 24 hours before they kick them out into a winter storm so it’s fine.

Can't blame Trump. He will need someone to come in and debug the Whtie House before he steps foot in there. It's obvious you can't trust the Intel Agencies with the job, since they are part of the Deep State trying to destroy Trump and his supporters any way they can as they have proved over and over again.
Exactly Ampersand! Seems like the Dink likes the corruption from the Hussein/Biden wing of the political world. This is what indoctrination...or brainwashing does to you.
The Dink doesn't need a link. CNN and MSNBC told him everything he is spewing over and over again. Somebody needs to take his TV away.
I would add that a lot of those DEI people are not just hired, but are elected by virtue-signalers so that they can feel good about themselves for voting for someone based on their identity, not their merit.
Those poor men! Whatever will they do when their periods hit at work?

Sen Warren is a big proponent of student loan debt relief. That undercuts and should dismiss anything she says about being a fighter for working families.
I came up with it when I saw an article about how some woman on Blue Sky said that they were going to drive out all of the “mean” people on the platform, and I commented that the Bluesheviks were going to purge the Meansheviks.

Fifth Circuit sides with ivermectin-prescribing doctors in their quarrel with the FDA
"Writing for the unanimous panel, U.S. Circuit Judge Don Willett, a Donald Trump appointee, focused on three FDA’s social media posts about ivermectin, in which the agency gave the impression the drug is only meant for horses and cows.
The posts stated: “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, ya’ll. Stop it,” “You are not a horse. Stop it with the #ivermectin. It’s not authorized for treating #COVID,” and, “Hold your horses, ya’ll. Ivermectin may be trending, but it still isn’t authorized or approved to treat COVID-19.”
Numerous media outlets published stories about the warnings. But Willett says a key point was lost in the uproar.
“Left unmentioned in most of the messaging: ivermectin also comes in a human version. And while the human version of ivermectin is not FDA-approved to treat the coronavirus, some people were using it off-label for that purpose,” he wrote in the 24-page opinion.
Willett found the Administrative Procedure Act allows the three doctors to bypass the government’s sovereign immunity and assert claims that the two defendant agencies and their top officials acted beyond their authority.
“FDA is not a physician,” Willett wrote in conclusion. “It has authority to inform, announce, and apprise—but not to endorse, denounce or advise. The doctors have plausibly alleged that FDA’s posts fell on the wrong side of the line between telling about and telling to. … Even tweet-sized doses of personalized medical advice are beyond FDA’s statutory authority.”

Wretchered (via Instapundit) looked up that reservoir. It's been dry since June 2009.
I don't think so, and I'm more sympathetic than Big Mike. There is always the chance that the burn could get out of hand, and with the conditions that have been described at the time, I'm pretty sure that people with boots on the ground knew that the risks were even greater. The USFS also wanted to preserve people and equipment to fight what they likely realized could be enormous fires if the winter rains didn't materialize (and they didn't)
Dinky, when you cut and paste several paragraphs from Salon.com, you should cite it. The illiterate gibberish that you add before and after what you've stolen stands out in stark contrast.

Why? You're an explorer in an unknown land.
No. It's the upper midwest.
Soon there will be little huts on the ice and men with buckets. Men bundled up in insulated overall peering at holes in the ice as if trying to devine some celestrial purpose.
We got about 7" of snow, and no ice.
Our dachshund tries to walk on the solid-looking smooth surface but even his twenty pounds are too much and he breaks through with each step. It's funny, and gives him a workout.
Willett is a terrific judge.
Wretchered says his misinterpreted the Google Earth photos because the cover makes it almost impossible to tell the actual water level.
