Nikki Glaser's Golden Globes monologue.

Great? Good? Okay?

rhhardin ayon kay ...

Tedious, from the first few minutes anyway. No big picture insults of the whole arrangement.

Dave Begley ayon kay ...

Very good.

Kate ayon kay ...

I literally lol'ed at a few jokes, especially the RFK bit.

Howard ayon kay ...

Safe corporate phony edgy.

Aggie ayon kay ...

Kate Winslet looked absolutely terrified at 2:16, then she got mad when mentioned twice, but the most of the other actors put their best acting face on. The monolog didn't do anything for me, but she's not really my cuppa anyway.

Iman ayon kay ...

meh.

Do we know this person??

Peachy ayon kay ...

Barf.

William ayon kay ...

It was pointed but not sharp enough to draw blood or inflict pain. She didn't do herself or any of the guests any harm. Everybody hopes for the second coming of Ricky Gervais but that's not going to happen.

Narr ayon kay ...

I don't have any idea who she is, and could only take a few seconds of that voice. I hope the jokes were good.

Tom T. ayon kay ...

Very funny!

gilbar ayon kay ...

i made it as far as: "if there IS a next time"
i'm not a fan of fantasy standup comedy

Hey everyone - a room filled with very wealthy rich Democrats who vote Democratix and laugh & mock from behind their walled mansions - all while our nation crumbles under the weight of MSNBC, massive crime, criminal government waste, government spending caused inflation, illegal entrants, drugs, child sex abuse and on and on. So much fentanyl - the dolphins are being poisoned in the oceans.
Everyone oooooogle the fabulous wealth, shiny jewelry and designer outfits.
pfffft.

Again - barf.

Tarrou ayon kay ...

Well written, mostly well delivered. Humorous, witty, even clever in places. Nothing funny or insightful, except perhaps the last joke, which was subtle enough I'm not sure it was intended.

Lazarus ayon kay ...

Thanks for that. I laughed harder than I have all year. She hit the sweet spot: insulting enough to the celebrities to please the audience but not insulting enough to really anger the celebrities. Obviously, she's not going to go further than that and do real damage to the people who invited her. One tip for Nikki and her make-up person, though: with all that glitzy shine on the set and on her dress, she could use a little less on her face.

Deep State Reformer ayon kay ...

This is People Magazine tier stuff. Few people but Hollywood groupies watch that stuff anyway to be truthful. Parsing the monologue at the Flat Earth Society's annual meeting would have about the same relevance.

Lilly, a dog ayon kay ...

The Chalamet bits were good, with a great assist from Sandler.

Ice Nine ayon kay ...

Oh, they were...good 'n vapid.

Magilla Gorilla ayon kay ...

Surprised myself by watching the whole thing. Some good yuks, and nice to see some of the actors whose work I know and like (mostly the older ones). Of course, I have not seen any of the current crop of movies or shows, though I will at some point check out the DVD of the Dylan movie from the public library.

Peachy ayon kay ...

Considering most hiveminders/ MSNBC koolaid drinkers actually believe Trump will never leave office - yeah - it's just so ho ho ho funny.

Eva Marie ayon kay ...

I’m not a fan of roasts, people smiling uncomfortably at insults. So this monologue was fine. My favorite joke - best actors in the business are here - your waiters. 2nd favorite: you’re all so powerful you can do anything - except elect the President. Best fashion - Zendaya. Lots of lovely gowns - although lovely gowns are so commonplace now. Pamala Anderson really looked good. A simple black gown like a simple black suit is always classy. I liked Chalamet’s suit even though Brody won the award with that snake broach.

Joe Bar ayon kay ...

I found that before you posted it. That was a really good performance. That's a difficult audience and few can do it well. She did it. The Adam Sandler joke was great!

JAORE ayon kay ...

It met my "pretty good" standard in that I watched until the end and chuckled a few times.

The Vault Dweller ayon kay ...

It was kind of tame. I chuckled at a few, like the RFK Jr. one and the Ben Afleck sex exclamations one. Notably, I will say I did not groan or roll my eyes at anything.

The Vault Dweller ayon kay ...

If I had to give it a rating I would say in between good and okay. Calling it "Really Good" feels incorrect, but then also so does calling it "Meh."

Yeah Right Sure ayon kay ...

Makes me wish that the GG's was so desperate for ratings that they would give Ricky Gervais the podium.

RCOCEAN II ayon kay ...

Mildly vulgar. Mildly funny. A few mild shots at the celebrities. Not being a fan of the actors and producers, I experienced a mild reaction. Mass entertainment industrial comedy.

RCOCEAN II ayon kay ...

One tiresome thing about female comediens, at least in the 21st century, is the non-stop sex jokes. yeah, I know you have a vagina and you have sex. Can you joke about something else?

john ayon kay ...

Loved the pace, the setups the punch lines. Her whole routine was just great. (First time I've seen Timothy Chalamet outside of A Complete Unknown. He actually looks uglier than Dylan.)

Eric the Fruit Bat ayon kay ...

I thought it was great. But I guess I have to say something negative so I don't like it when the target of a joke makes a big show of his or her reaction. Comes off as needy.

Leland ayon kay ...

I was impressed that she wasn’t afraid “to go there” with various jokes. I made it further than I thought, but still found it interesting at the top that producers getting sex from starlets is still a joke for Hollywood, and the notion that “you can do whatever in Hollywood and they let you do it” got hidden by the joke that they couldn’t influence voters.
Anyone know why Kate Winslet seemed to be pissed? I didn’t even know she was still acting.

Eva Marie ayon kay ...

In my above comment broach should be brooch.

Michael ayon kay ...

What are the Golden Globes again?

Milo Minderbinder ayon kay ...

As a graduate of the U. of Kansas, thanks to Glaser for giving ranking agencies a reason to knock KU down a few more notches....

Iman ayon kay ...

👍

Iman ayon kay ...

The Real Deal sitting out there in the audience looked like a woman transitioning to a “man”… I wonder if that’s for an acting role or his new look.

JIM ayon kay ...

I almost made it to the 8 minute mark.

PM ayon kay ...

Muy fonny. Esp the knock on Clooney at the end.

tommyesq ayon kay ...

Haven't watched yet - how many pedophile jokes did she determine was enough?

Wince ayon kay ...

Very good timing and delivery. Played it right down the middle. Which means she's got any awards gig now, if she wants it. Smart first foray. It'll be more difficult for them to get rid of her in the future given her increased notoriety, even if she moves more edgy.

oldirishpig ayon kay ...

Wandered away, mid-monologue.

DINKY DAU 45 ayon kay ...

People watched this show instead of LIONS and Vikings! What a sad life :)

PM ayon kay ...

Think Darnold would've preferred to be watching Glaser.

tcrosse ayon kay ...

Not bad, and in a target-rich environment.

MadisonMan ayon kay ...

Seemed predictable. For a comic, that's not a great comment.

Michael R. Arndorfer ayon kay ...

I'm never impressed with the hardworking actors/servers joke. Perhaps it's part of the contract to host the show, but it just falls flat on me every time.

FullMoon ayon kay ...

Lacked bosom.

RCOCEAN II ayon kay ...

Looking at the comments. Well, there 's a reason why Joey Bishop used to be popular. And Adam Sandler is a worth a zillion dollars. My wife says I'm a tough crowd, but I do like good comedy. But I just saw a cartoon that I thought funnier than anything Glazer did. " If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you."

Craig Mc ayon kay ...

She did fine. You can't expect a Ricky Gervais suicide bombing every time.

Rosalyn C. ayon kay ...

I laughed a lot spontaneously. That's the best kind of humor when you can't help but laugh. I didn't know Nikki Glazer at all before the other day and looked up some YouTube videos of her performances. This was much better. And she is refreshingly much funnier and smarter than most of the comedians on TV -- the late night crowd. A lot of the jokes were kind of insider jokes so you have to have some sympathy for the artists there. The usual pompous suspects here found no humor at all.

Biff ayon kay ...

Normally, I find Glaser to be unwatchable. Her "humor" tends to be crude, crass, and grotesque, and I'm no prude when it comes to stand up comedy. She drastically toned down her approach for the Golden Globes. I have to say, it was actually pretty well done by today's standards.

TWWren ayon kay ...

Predictable.

Jim Gust ayon kay ...

Dull and disappointing. Nowhere near the bar set by Ricky Gervais. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were also quite good. This one was a waste of time.
