After my high school headmaster called to invite me to a formal scholarship award event, I showed up in a stained white undershirt and jeans, he said, "Glad you dressed for the event."
I'm glad he seems to have recovered (and then some!) from his stroke. But this affectation is just silly - as if it makes him more "authentically" a Man of the People. It's like Peter Gabriel's face paint or something - don't be scared, Fetterman, you will be recognized even in long pants!
I wear shorts mostly becuase of the climate I live in but mostly becuase of ongoing nerve pain from knee replacement a few years back. I wonder if Fetterman has similar pain issues exascerbated by pant legs.

I have plenty of friends who are terribly bothered by tags at the back of a neckline without any surgery or condition, so if Fetterman has nerve pain exacerbated by fabric touching the knee, I withdraw my dismissive criticism..

reminds me of the joke that those in Minnesota wear shorts when it is 20 degrees outside, but those in the southern USA panic at 50 degrees. Western PA is not as cold as Minnesota, but it is close. (I've lived in both places).

Back when I was the engineer being taken to meet the clients, I was counseled by management on exactly how I was to state objections to anything said by either side in the meetings. For example, I wasn't allowed to say, "No!" to the Japanese clients. I was to suck air in loudly, with my teeth grinding, then say, "That may be... very difficult. Let me ask my superiors for clarification and get back to you." That was a fun meeting. Lots of teeth sucking.
