No sunrise picture today. It was -4° at sunrise.
UPDATE, January 20th, 5:26 a.m.: It's -4° again this morning, and it's predicted to be -12° tomorrow at sunrise (with a "feels like" temperature of -29. I guess I'll stay in and watch the inauguration and the first 2 days of Trump, the Revenge Tour... or whatever it is. They've moved the inauguration inside, into the Rotunda, but I see the temperature in Washington today is in the mid-20s... and that's a hyphen, not a minus sign.

I walked to the local diner this morning. It was a cold walk. We have two windows in our front bedroom, and I think they're pretty well sealed, but condensation happens. So I decided to put caulk around one of them to see if it made a difference. It didn't. They both looked the same condensation-wise this morning.

I went for a 6 mile walk today despite it being about 8 degrees. I was all bundled up, including a balaclava, that, combined with it being sunny it actually wasn't too bad on the walk.
I'm tap to do that tomorrow. Bundle up and balaclava for me too. Once you've gone a mile or so, you're warmed up.
Something about feeling that cold on the exposed parts of your face, while otherwise being toasty, makes you feel invincible !
Our forecast keeps getting less severe with each update. I was expecting 'teen's' and now it's low 20's, and the snow amounts are lessening too. Too bad, I was looking forward to a few inches. But the birds are not often wrong, and they've been ripping through the seed. I'll have to re-fill tomorrow. The roosting box is out, but so far unused.
Sunny and no wind helps a lot, but I just head to the gym and get on the treadmill. My excuse is snow on the trails :) Boring as heck. Temperatures should get back up to 30 midweek, which is pretty comfortable.
I really need to up my walk mileage--it's not as if I lack the time, or the warm clothes.
It's just so hard to leave the screen sometimes.

I assume the Biden family has people loading up the moving van. Is there anybody checking to see to it that he doesn't "accidentally" head out with classified documents and that she doesn't pull a Hillary Clinton and try to abscond with furniture and tableware that belongs to the United States>
I'm seeing 14 degrees overnight Tuesday in my Houston suburb, with 3-5 inches of snow (plus sub-30 for each of the 3 nights prior and at least 1 night post, with daytime highs in the 30s-40s). If the houses were built for this, we'd all be fine. But we (of our area, I mean - not us in particular) have exposed pipes outside, inadequate insulation around attic pipes, and a lot of vulnerable infrastructure in the yard like outdoor kitchens and such. So there's panic in the streets.
We've (and now I mean us in particular) been changing our landscaping to be hard freeze tolerant over several years, we are well prepared with seasonal pipe insulation for all the dumb exposed pipes, we've got the attic hatch open, we've lived in much colder climates so we know how to function if our power goes out (thanks, renewables! The ones that froze solid back in 2021 or whatever it was!), and we feel as ready as we can be. Filling my brewing carboys with drinking water tonight and then I'm done prepping.
Oh, and cars full, batteries fresh, candles handy, lighters new, groceries bought.
I hope the 'list of 51' just represents the first page of a thick document. I have a feeling that the 'Resistance v 2.0' is going to occupy some time until DOGE gets their feet under them. I also hope they show no mercy and grant no quarter to the disrupters within the Administrative State.
We’re looking at lows around freezing but atm predicting to miss the extreme cold. Maybe some accumulation on Tuesday. I think it’s been five or six years since the last snow photos…

CEOs may curry favor with Democrats when they have power and Congressional majorities, and with Republicans when they hold power. This is part of their job -- they have a fiduciary duty to shareholders.
From this, however, it cannot be inferred what their personal political leanings are. It would be more interesting to hear what these leaders think about the President-elect off the record.
I gotta say, on this inauguration eve I feel an electricity in the zeitgeist. Feels like we may be in for a period of good tidings. Hope my feeling is prophetic.
Wind of Change is a classic. My wife and I sang it in Lithuania with a group of college students at a talent show, all the students born in the year the wall fell. I have deep fondness for that song.

Someone on Twitter mentioned that they haven't seen a pardon for brother Jim Biden yet. It would be absolutely hilarious if Jim and a lot of other guilty swine didn't get pardons because Joe Biden forgot, or was too out of it to sign them, or was peeved at them for some stupid trivial reason. If any pardons do come through at the last minute, I hope the Trump team will examine them very carefully to see if the signatures are forged.
I was sure he was going to pardon Jim.

IIRC, former POTUS's received the daily intelligence briefing- until Trump became former POTUS. maybe it's petty- but along with all the other clearances being revoked- he ought pull the security clearances for all former POTUS's. Tell them if they want the daily briefings, they can come to him and explain how they'll help him unite the country... and if they can't or won't, OFW.
I see where Trump is suspending security clearances for 50 former federal employees who properly pointed out that Hunter Biden's faked laptop was evidence of Russian involvement in U.S politics, but all he really wanted was to get all the extreme rightwing publications to print Hunter's dick pics one more time. No penalties can come from these suspensions - just as Trump was not penalized for stealing classified documents. Personally, I'm sure that most of us would prefer to see those Melania pics where she rubs up against other nude women.
No penalties- except loss of jobs that require clearances from the government. And Trump wasn't penalized for stealing classified documents because he didn't steal any. But aside from that... you got everything right! Well, except for the faked laptop part- it was real. And spectacular.
The cantor at mass tonight was a gal I know from dancing. Cute little Hispanic ballerina. Really good dancer, and a sweetheart. She's entering a convent in two weeks, which is a damn shame, in my opinion.

@gadfly, at the time the 51 made their very public pronouncement the FBI had already examined the laptop months earlier and determined that it was authentic. So, not faked. Do try to keep up.

Louisville area got a dusting of snow overnight yesterday and flurries most of the day. Clear and very cold (for here) last night. Actual air temp on Wednesday morning is projected to be slightly below 0. Highly unusual for this area. We moved here over a decade ago and had temps like this our first January in town. Dog walking will be delayed today.
Revenge tour!?! Today is a day where whoever is on the panel that’s been running the executive office is banished and replaced with the potential for real positive change for humanity. It is also a day for the sourpusses that prayed for the success of team Soros to begin many months if long walks in the woods, or if it’s too cold out, to enjoy eating a bag of dicks by the fire. Either way it is a glorious morning!

It said 33 this morning, my little thermometer did, here in sunny Arizona. But nary a cloud in sight, zero chance of snow. The frost on the greenbelt will crackle underfoot for a couple of hours.
He pardoned his bagman, Hunter. The others can still plead the Fifth if called on to testify. If he pardons them all, they'll lose that protection.
