... this will be the first year since 2007 when I have less than 3,000 blog posts. In the first 4 years of the blog — 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 — the posts numbered in the 2,000s. Then all those other years were at least 3,000 — mostly in the 3,000s, but 2 were in the 4,000s and one was even over 5,000! After hitting 5,117 in 2013, I returned to the zone of the 3,000s and stayed there for 10 years straight. I don't know where that consistency came from, because I don't count and I don't try to hit particular goals, either daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. I just proceed post by post intuitively. But I do look at the numbers in the sidebar, after the fact, and observe the patterns... and find it genuinely... bizarre.

Thank you!
Some people say baseball is a game of statistics but it's been my experience that women like looking at the butts.
You can do it! Focus! Four days = 96 hours. One post per hour with time left over.
Doesn't seem bizarre to me. Patterns of activity develop even without conscious plans.
Mainstream media has completed the transformation to purely coordinated leftie propaganda and I would suspect it’s more difficult to say something Ann interesting about it, so why bother regurgitating it without comment unless you’re really into propagating propaganda?
3000 / 365 is averaging over 8.2 posts a day. Simply amazing to do that let alone do more than that quite a few times! Embrace the incredible achievement, I say….
Yah, without trying we find rhythms. This many a day while the number of days remains constant..:

But that would be changing my method, and I've never done that. I've always stuck to what feels right intuitively and what is intrinsically rewarding to me. I know I could "cheat" and decide I intuitively want to hit 3,000 and I might find a way to do a type of short posts that could feel intrinsically rewarding, such as by doing some end-of-the-year stuff mining the posts of the past year. My favorite quote. Best sunrise pic. Ranking TV shows I blogged. I could do a post about some song I heard on an Uber driver's sound system. I could tell you what I got for Christmas. I could talk to you about where I've been the last 4 days. Etc. Etc.
It's all fine. My dear Althouse, just attribute it to old age, as most of us do when we do something less than usual.
Until I wandered by accident into working for corporate law firms, I’d never met a person who was the type of profound workaholic I encountered in corporate lawyers. 80 hour weeks for months on end as an associate! It’s interesting to see that workaholism extend even into retirement.
Quality not quantity. Thank you!
I lurked around Althouse for probably 15 year before finally joining the conversation this year. The quality and intellect of this blog and its commenters was intimidating. That's a roundabout way of saying you are appreciated and please keep up the good work.
That's the only reason my wife went to games with me.
How about you and Meade just relax and enjoy your retirement? 2930 is still an amazing number of posts.
Consuming this much NY Times drivel could be dangerous to your health.
Time to get the bullpen up.
More a football thing. Tighter pants, and tighter butts.
Under many circumstances, Less is More.
You have hit your stride and there's nothing wrong with going at your own pace. Individualism is the key ! And with that, comes variability. Besides, one could argue that the quality of the material you're working with, much of it from the Legacy Mainstream Media (D) has also had an effect. Nobody cares. We come here for the quality, not the quantity - and we are all quite grateful for that ! Maybe you should also tally up the number of comments in a year and see what that tally looks like, Y-O-Y.
If you could subtract out the etymology posts, the residual might fall below 2000.
Better get to it, kiddo.
Have you plotted your post count by year on a bell curve? Is it a normal curve or skewed one way or another?

We watched some rom-com where the femme met her younger boy toy at his basketball pickup game while he played and she watched. When he was done she was so hot they had to run home for hot sex. I was shocked but the women with me said oh, yah that’s a thing. And here I thought the court side seats were a present for me 🧐…
A Brewster’s Million challenge. If Althouse hits the number, we all contribute $100
Is this The Real Temujin or AI? That "kiddo" could be a brilliant fake out.
I tried to reverse-google that graffiti photo, a la Andrew Sullivan, to detect where you were, but Flickr doesn't cooperate. The mystery continues.
I'm not there anymore. Leaving today and am in the middle of leaving.
I’m with Big Mike: go at your own pace. Resist the techno bean counting.
Its amazing how many posts you do, and it is appreciated. I'm thinking the fewer posts might be due to state of popular culture. Hopefully, enough celebrities will die in 2025, so you can get your post count up.
You're in your prime. the Prime of miss ann althouse.
Is not where it isn't. Was not where it wasn't. Cannot where it can't.
Ain't is "colloquial or illiterate speech" and the conception of diverse posts unto itself.
Thanks for all you do.
You're continuing your streak of over 2900. That's pretty impressive. Nothing special rally about 3000. It's just an artifact of our base 10 numerical system.
No matter the number of blog posts what you do is invaluable. You usher into my world a plethora of subjects I would never encounter on my own. You are too blogging as the late great David Brudnoy of WBZ in Boston was to talk radio. Thank you Ann Althouse.
Like many others, I'm impressed and grateful for your productivity and generosity in maintaining this blog. You and your commenters continue to amuse and inform me. 3000 is an arbitrary number.
Yeah! Slip into glide.
Is Althouse on an extremely subtle path to quiet quitting? In an unusually jam-packed year, politically and geo-politically speaking. More likely this is a statistical artifact of her determination not to let this site drift into being just another political blog.
It is a great blog and the insight, education and intelligence of many commentors is impressive. Thanks Althouse.
quality, not quantity, Ann.
I suspect AI for the post count being down.
Let’s face it, conversing with Grok is just more interesting and fun for Althouse than conversing with us.
AI 🤖 to Althouse rescue 😉
I am going to use LB's comment to justify a second swing at my limerick on Althouse taunting us with AI.
The host of this blog eponymous
Has taunted her posters anonymous.
Being matched against Grok
Nowise raises our stock;
Would that 'wit' and 'smartass' were synonymous!
It looks like you've followed the typical arc of a career, peaking around 10 years ago and trending down slowly since then. Nothing wrong with that--even 2500 is amazing, roughly 7 per day.
OMG! She's doing the Lord's work with those posts. Fewer posts on what, then? To quote Kamala Harris: "Nothing comes to mind."
I read Althouse for stuff I disagree with. How else are women going to learn self-awareness, which is needed now that they're in charge of HR everywhere.
I got some great tickets behind third base to the Marlins, one time, back in te day.
"These seats are great!" says the wifie.
"I know!" I said.
"What's the third baseman's name?" she asked.
"Dave Madigan."
"He's got a great butt, you can bring me anytime with seats like this."
If nothing else, these stats confirm my wisdom in not trying to read every post and comment thereon.
That said, the blog is greater than the sum of the Prof plus the commenters, and I wish it long life at any level.
Slapass! Key and Peele, look it up.
Neither I nor my wife are sports fans, but she did let in on the secret at some point, remarking on my flat butt . . .
All the posts are available. I look up stuff here all the time. It’s a tremendous resource.
You're averaging over eight posts per day to get to 2930. It seems like you have been blogging about all of the things that interested you this year. Adding posts just to pad the numbers seems like it would be diluting the quality. I remember a Peanuts cartoon with Snoopy that said something to the effect of "There's no point in doing a lot of barking if you don't have anything to say." When you've said what you have to say, there's no point in saying more.
It don't think it's because there was nothing to say. There's a lot to be said for----not saying anything. Silence is golden---for some more than others.
fewer
Ma’am …. It would be worth the 2x-3x daily visit even at 1500 per year or even less. Your legal analysis is especially interesting, helpful, and pertinent.
