The restoration is looking good.

Was thinking the same thing. How wonderful. I attended Mass at Notre Dame on my last trip to Paris in 2003. It was the First Sunday of Advent, and the place was packed.

This is wonderful.

There were, shortly after the fire, ideas of changing the appearance being bandied about. I just looked at the reconstruction pix and it appears that they, in fact, kept it true to the original. There was also talk at that time, because of the fact that ND is owned by the State, of its being converted to some hideous, cockamamie secular museum type thing, complete of course with "inclusive" woke shit. We all know what that would have meant (hint: starts and ends with "m") Anyone know if that is happening. I'm not religious but I do believe in heresy, I guess, and the aforementioned would be (have been?) the outrageous ultimate of that.

BTW, the sparing from the fire of ND's magnificent rose windows was a true blessing to humanity. The possibility of their destruction was the immediate and painful thought that struck me when I heard the breaking news of the fire.

Playing that video, though, I can't help but think of The Nine Tailors by Sayers.

Friggen Muzzies. We know they did it, as a statement of their power in France. The government could never explain the fire, because that would have embarrassed the Muzzies. Same reason that they won’t talk about their Muzzie controlled No-go zones.

What a great week this has been for the survival of Western civilization.

I am a proud and unapologetic cultural imperialist. I want the blessings of free enterprise, liberty, and self-rule to be enjoyed by everyone in the world, regardless of race or religion.

I want to see the complete annihilation of obscurantist Islam, socialist/collectivist squalor and oppression of every stripe, banana-republic Big Man rule, and the budding Western European/Canadian/Australian censorious surveillance-state managerialist oligarchy.

Trump makes the bells ring out.

Nice. I wonder how many Catholics were within earshot of the event.

Vance ayon kay ...

Apparently, and most unfortunately, it' is quite likely that any Catholics hearing the bells were actually foreign tourists. I don't think France is very Catholic at all anymore.... or anything else religious.

Wow, if that’s not symbolic of a new day dawning, what is? Yay, Western civilization!

My favorite bells in Paris are the Bells of St. Genevieve.

That sounds glorious. I hope that the magnificent Cavaillé-Col organ is ready for the opening. It was completely removed and renovated piece by piece.

What's the official story as to why it caught fire?

mikee ayon kay ...

Cathedral bells ringing for the first time since a major disaster? Well, Trump was just re-elected. Certainly just a coinkydink, right?

Wonderful news! Talking to wife today when I heard about the re-opening. Said, it would be nice to open as a Mass since it is, you know, a Cathedral...the right call...and a Holy Day as well...
