Snow makes things look better. Even a light dusting.

Snow on the grass in Ohio too. Last non-snow pic yesterday.

Early, or late?

Got it here in Michigan as well. A bit early, but it usually starts snowing around Thxgiving. Love it!

Down south, too. Just flurries, though, no coverage yet.

Seems like this happens every year.

Winter's coming

Low 40s here.

Way late. You may not believe in climate change, but Althouse has her head buried in the sand if she has lived in Madison for almost forty years and hasn't noticed that the winters are much warmer, the snow comes later and the lake freezes later and thaws earlier than when she first arrived in Wisconsin.

Should be snowing up in the mountains, but just drizzling rain down here in the Shenandoah Valley.

"You may not believe in climate change"

Anybody who doesn't accept that the climate changes constantly is a fool. We have periods where it was gets warm, and periods where it gets cold, the thirties were warm, the sixties and seventies were cold; now it's warm. We are in an interglacial, the kind which usually lasts ten to twenty thousand years, and for the past several million years, glaciation of the planet has been the norm.

Did you know that the planet once became a snowball? When CO2 was very high, photosynthesis evolved, and the green slime locked away so much CO2 that the planet froze until volcanism released it again. That's a simple accepted fact. You know what another accepted fact is? That since the evolution of the plants we see today, at a time when CO2 was ten times higher than it is today, plants have been sequestering the CO2 in coal and oil and natural gas, dropping the levels and once again putting the planet on a course for "Snowball Earth." Good thing we started digging up the coal and burning it!

Yeah, climate change is real, so are the seasons, so is bad weather and good weather.

I can't wait, it's supposedly heading this way.

Oh yeah, and Freder, during the Eemian, you know what that is without googling it, right? During the Eemian, just a few hundred thousand years ago, it was far warmer than today for a couple of thousand years. Sea levels were so high that certain island chains like, I think.. the Seychelles, were submerged. How would we have stopped that were we alive then?

Guess what, the planet survived. We didn't turn into Venus, an unliveable hothouse, anymore than we did when CO2 was ten times higher than today. In fact, there were many more species of great apes, our group, than there are today, and humans were well on the evolutionary path to create us.

This caught me be surprise (there's a lot more snow out there now than in Althouse's picture). I haven't gotten the snow blower prepped yet (there's not that much snow, but I consider myself warned). It's supposed to rain this afternoon, so I'll just sit tight. But in the next few days I need to switch the garage over to winter mode.

And these last two comments are relevant how?

Drago বলেছেন...

"And these last two comments are relevant how?"

Those comments demonstrate your ignorance both of weather vs climactic changes and the basic large time scale + Earth climate composition history understanding necssary to appreciate this moment of climare context.

Jaq is basically calling you out for being as dumb as Greta Thunberg...which may be unfair to Greta.

That was a nice burst of snow mid-morning here too. Nice to watch from inside my office that is.

Rusty বলেছেন...

Having done extensive research into climate change vis a vis Pyrrharctia isabella I have determined that this will be a milder than usual winter.

Rusty বলেছেন...

NO! Get out!

Rusty বলেছেন...

I'm about a hundred miles south of Madison and even though it snowed for hours it's already melting.

You know how you can tell that Climate Change™ is real? Listen to just about any weather report anymore, when it's about to rain, and see if the words "atmospheric river" are uttered. Of course they almost certainly will be, yet 20 years ago, nobody had ever heard the term. So there it is- proof of Climate Change™.

You're welcome.

Jim at বলেছেন...

You may not believe in climate change

The Earth's climate has been changing for 4.6 billion years. STFU and deal with it.

It snowed in Ireland yesterday as well. Lovely and sunny later in the day.
