AND: For the annals of pronoun usage:Since the @realDonaldTrump YMCA dance is trending and taken the world by storm…did you guys know I was in the original YMCA music video?!

Check it out! So much fun! pic.twitter.com/29EzcE46bg
ALSO: That video was clearly influenced by this much more carefully choreographed scene in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes":God he’s hot

I did not know there even was a YMCA video until now. Good for Bruce Jenner. Oh, sorry. Caitlin Jenner.
The sound and music on this video sounded like listening to it through a wall from another room.
That video is from Can’t Stop the Music, innit? That’s why you’ve never seen it. Nobody has…
I thought the man was dead.
I remember listening to the radio as a kid and having SUCH a time trying to puzzle out lyrics.
My ex-husband from my brief, youthful first marriage was as much of an audiophile as a poor twenty-something could be - he would buy the vinyl, play it once (after cleaning it and the cartridge of his turntable) to record it onto a cassette, preferably metal, and then store it and listen only to the cassette thereafter. So during my time with him, our favorites would get more and more muffled.
Once, we bought a Marillion album at Tower Records that had been accidentally put out the evening before its release date. He let me listen to it on his headphones while he was recording it because I was a huge fan and he was less so - I still remember the feeling of listening to something no one else (you know, except all the people involved in producing it) had ever heard.
I never thought about it before but I guess Bruce Jenner's hairdo made sense (for the times) because it stayed out of the way and didn't get all messed up. The male equivalent of Dorothy Hamill.
Maybe impressionable little kids at the time (like me) should have suspected something was up because Bruce Jenner could have simply gone with the crew cut, unquestionably the most virile of hairdos.
Jamie, which Marillion album was it? I’m a huge fan as well. Went to see them at the Albert Hall and in Haarlem, as well as every time they come to my town. One of these days I want to go on the Cruise to the Edge.

Didn’t know that Bruce could dunk, but not surprising as he was The World’s Greatest Athlete.
That isn't a music video, but she won the 1976 Men's Olympic Decathlon. It was a pivotal moment in women's history.
I remember the 14th St. YMCA in Manhattan as one of the most lethal vectors of the AIDS epidemic and a center of chicken hawking. Happy Thanksgiving, Professor. I have no idea how your kink for gay men survived living through this plague. I have a couple of self-destructive kinks of my own, although not the gay worship kink. I can’t say I’ve rid myself entirely of my kinks, but I sure got fed up with them and ceased romanticizing them.
Bruce did NOT skip leg day, which is one reason why Kaitlyn is such a great golfer.
Jenners haircut was a very common dude/gal style on the west coast in the 70's/80's, along with parting hair down the middle as we all just generally let it grow out. Athletes, surfers, hippies, righteous dudes (all the "Ferris Bueller's" archetypes denoted in that movie)
My sister’s high school had Bruce Jenner Stadium because Bruce had attended and won the gold a few years before. The high school was called Newtown but technically the campus was in…Sandy Hook, CT…
Yes, HE did.
Try “Hot to Go” by Chappel Roan.
I'm assuming you are being a tad sarcastic and/or tongue in cheek.
Caitlyn Jenner should be the poster...person...for handling trans issues well. Which is why the activists hate her.
Lighten up. It’s Thanksgiving…and there’s an indian…
I still remember the cities in CA attempting to stem the geometric rise of AIDS thru the bath houses that proliferated in SF/LA/SD and how that failed politically even though the most obvious medical control move.
@rehajm. I’m thankful to the professor for her dogged defense of free speech.
They feel stupid(er) for making incorrect assumptions about her politics…
Its surprising how many of the Village People survived the heavy AIDS era and are alive today. 4 or 5 out of the 6? Unfortunately, 1 of my brothers in law did not.
Happy Thanksgiving !!
"Hot For Teacher" was no slouch, but would never get thru the gauntlet today.
Ditto.
As the Village People taught us, there are 6 kinds of people:
Construction Workers
Leathermen
Indians
Policemen
G.I.s
Cowboys
Jamie, which Marillion album was it?
It was Misplaced Childhood, still a favorite (it speaks to my inner teenage girl). I lost interest in them, I'm afraid, once Fish left (and my marriage blew up, and the next guy, now my husband of more than 30 years, was a New Wave guy with no sympathy for prog).
I saw them in a theater in San Francisco on that your - one of the two best concerts I ever attended. I painted my face in multicolored flames.
Beyond G.I.s there were sailors, per "In the Navy." One story back then was that the US Navy strongly considered using it as recruiting song. But there were obvious gay allusions as they sought to recruit a bunch of men who hot bunked on ships. And there was AIDS.
Bruce Jenner now makes me think of the meme with Howard Cosell, OJ Simpson, and Bruce. Yes, Howard I still can’t believe the shit you have seen.
Off topic, but has Inga completely disappeared? Not that I am complaining.
I've never seen that video before, and I was a fan. I even bought the "Macho Man" 8-track. My sister teased me about it, even telling me that one of them was gay.
Impossible. Like an Indian chief, cowboy, policeman, construction worker, motorcycle punk or soldier is going to be gay.
The 'leatherman' dressed like Eric Von Zipper from Beach Blanket Bingo, so I figured he was in a motorcycle gang.
Miss Tesbacherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The man is, yes.
She's waiting for the DNC to issue some talking points that make any sense.
Pro Tip: They're all gay.
The Golden Raspberry Awards (The Razzies) founder saw a 99-cent double feature of the turkeys "Can't Stop the Music" and "Xanadu,"and was inspired to celebrate outstanding achievement in bad movies. "Can't Stop the Music," which the YMCA clip comes from, received the first Worst Picture Award. Note the appearances by Steve Guttenberg and Valerie Perrine.
With respect to the phrase “you guys,” there is a piece of paper under the glass on counsel’s table in the Nebraska Supreme Court advising the lawyer not to call the Justices “you guys.” The last time I was there a young female lawyer appeared via Zoom and she broke that rule. The Chief Justice excoriated her after she finished. Yeow!
Caitlyn Jenner teaches us that the world is healing.
Interesting to compare the fit, but lean "muscle men" of the Jane Russell clip to today's heavy lifting, supplemental fueled men of today.
Love "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". Marilyn is so much fun in it. I always thought every guy with Jane was gay. It's a very weird scene.
Caitlyn has a sense of humor. If she runs against Kamala for CA gov, as rumored, it'll be the Joe Rogan election all over again.
This can't be true.
I never heard any lawyer address any judge at any level with that degree of colloquialism.
I've been out of the game 5 years ... have things degraded that much?
No biggie, but I don't think that's the original video. The Village People alone filmed one on the streets of New York about a year earlier:
https://youtu.be/CS9OO0S5w2k?si=_J8US410rr-aakoU
You'd think so, but they're not all gay.
According to the podcast Stuff You Should Know (which should be on your list if you listen to podcasts), they weren't formed as a gay band and were surprised when it turned out that's where they were most popular.
Has anyone seen Caitlyn Jenner and Kimberly Guilfoyle in the same room together?
The last video really shows how drugs changed the male physique.
Wilbur:
I was shocked when I saw it. But it must have been a problem or otherwise the Chief Justice wouldn’t have put the notice on the table. He just retired. He has a deep and powerful voice and really laid into that young lawyer.
The professor has doggedly censored posts of her dogged defense of free speech. Chalk it up to economics and dumb luck, doggonit…
MTV Music Videos were a wonderful, creative, but unfortunately gone, short-form creative film genre. "Thriller", "Take on Me", so many others...
Yes, filmed in 1978. For reference the movie Caitlin posted, Can’t Stop the Music was released in 1980. MTV Network debut was in summer 1981…
Yes, she has. This is probably the main reason why:
Inga
"Thank God someone as demented as Trump will never see the inside of the Oval Office again. Harris will be the next POTUS."

I really like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Its probably Russell's best, and Monroe really shines. Monroe should've been in more musicals. That and comedy was her true talent. Niagara is probably her best drama, I liked it better than misfits.
I wonder how many of those "Hunks" with Russell were Gay - quite a few, I'd bet.
Thanks Captain Obvious.
Ran into that idiot at a studio in Los Angeles. "She" is a dick.
That’s Valerie Perrine. She’s 81 now.
Make America Gay Again.
Happy autogynophilia-giving Day!
"Thank God someone as demented as Trump will never see the inside of the Oval Office again. Harris will be the next POTUS."
Well, I thought she would win too. I was wrong, but I haven't gone anywhere.
Were all the Village People gay? Like in the Harris-Walz manly man ad? Were any of them gay? First, people assumed they were all gay. Then people were told that most of them weren't gay. It looks like the truth is that four or probably five of the original six were gay. The lead singer, who dressed as a policeman or naval officer, wasn't and was even married to Phylicia Rashad (before Ahmad and the Cosby Show). So, on par with the Harris-Walz ad where I think one of the actors was straight. Some of the original members are dead, but it doesn't look like any of the original six died of AIDS. The French producer who brought the group together did.
JR being knocked into the pool at the end was a mistake that worked so well it was kept as part of the choreography
Lucky you weren't run into....
The days of innocence when ordinary Americans were oblivious that performers like Freddie Mercury and the Village People were walking talking Tom of Finland cartoons.
Yes, I discovered Misplaced Childhood in college. Excellent album. I wore my Hearts of Midlothian FC jersey this morning as part of the run-up to St Andrew's Day (since it's also Winston Churchill's birthday and the Foreign Legion's Camerone Day, I have to spread out my commemorations). "The trippers of the light fantastic....spray the pheremones on this perfumed uniform!"
Marillion with Steve Hogarth is a different band, definitely. Not better nor worse, just different. More proggy, and a bit more naughty, as H is a cheeky English chappie. I am very upset that he is not livestreaming his Christmas solo show anymore.
I've seen Fish solo live as well - basically a musical infomercial for Scottish independence, NTTAWWT. I missed out on his (supposedly) farewell tour this year.
Best Marillion song for teenage girls, from my external perspective, is Warm Wet Circles. "she faithfully traces his name with quick-bitten fingernails/Through the tears of condensation that'll cry through the night/As the glancing headlights of the last bus/kiss adolescence goodbye."
The one great thing about the Internet is you eventually run into someone who shares your niche interest, whatever it is.

Guess she wasn't aware of the internal polls.
I much preferred looking at Jane Russell than the various male athletes.
My question — what is a topless (and bottomless?) young woman doing in the locker room at the Young Men’s Christian Association?
He's in their faces, in their spaces. Political congruence. Why Males Compel Allusions.
She’s what used to be called a beard.
Deportation concerns making for tense times at Inga's (not so) Happy Hostel.
It was Misplaced Childhood
Great album. Still have it.
Saw them open for Rush at the St. Paul Civic Center in March of '86, and they played it.
What the hell was that?
I live nearby. Several villages are part of Newtown, and Sandy Hook is one of them. The stadium was renamed a decade or so ago, well before Bruce became Caitlyn. I forget the details, but I think town officials were miffed that Bruce wouldn't chip in when the place needed major repairs.
