I really object to calling hardwired earbuds "antiquated earphones." They're just the hardwired version of earbud technology. I actually prefer hardwired to wireless. The wireless earbuds are heavier and fall out more often. It's really easy to lose one. (Which makes the other one useless.) And all this battery operated technology, when it doesn't need to be battery powered, is bad for the environment. Those wireless earbuds can't be repaired cost effectively and will be in the toxic waste dump in a few years.
I have hardwired ear buds, but if I want high quality audio, I grab my AKG studio headphones. I've had them for a few decades and they sound like a million bucks. They do require a 1/4" to 1/8" TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) adaptor to work with modern devices. (Like watching videos on a laptop.)
