Mayorkas warns FEMA doesn’t have enough funding to last through hurricane season (AP)
"The Federal Emergency Management Agency can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funding to make it through the hurricane season, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday.
The agency is being stretched as it works with states to assess damage from Hurricane Helene and delivers meals, water, generators and other critical supplies. The storm struck Florida last week, then plowed through several states in the Southeast, flooding towns and killing more than 160 people.
Mayorkas was not specific about how much additional money the agency may need, but his remarks on Air Force One underscored concerns voiced by President Joe Biden and some lawmakers earlier this week that Congress may need to pass a supplemental spending bill this fall to help states with recovery efforts.
“We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We are expecting another hurricane hitting,” Mayorkas said. “FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.”
Hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30, but most hurricanes typically occur in September and October."

Watching the road closures in western NC. There’s been a vast improvement to the assessability to many communities by road. Still a few impassable, but good to see things going in the right direction there. I-40 suffered greatly, won’t be re-opened until September next year, and I-26 not for 8 months or so. These two roads, esp I-40, are critical truck routes. I guess the ILA strike helps there - no containers available to transport /sarc.

We’re in SE NC. In our small area alone there must be 10 separate donation hubs run by different entities. Not unreasonable to multiply that by 1000 across NC state alone. I did read the part where Smith partially quotes Trump (only the unitalicized portion) saying "So what he has Secret Service protection" when [redacted, but it's obviously Mark Meadows] rushes into the dining room to advise Trump that the Capitol crowd was chanting about Pence. A lot of Jack's shitty work product is like this, putting forth salacious gossip to make Trump look bad before the election, but with evidence that is probably not admissible and might be covered by immunity. Smith is completely ignoring the recent SCOTUS ruling and pretending that this is "private" Trump doing and saying thing, not "president" Trump. And like the first filing long long ago, this one relies on Smith's unworldly ability to read Donald Trump's mind and tell the jury Trump's intentions.
As Jonathon Turley has pointed out, a lot of sounds bad if you have proof Trump didn't believe what he was saying. But Smith doesn't have proof of what Trump believes or disbelieves, and with lawyers giving him advise even if the lawyers disagree you cannot prove which theories Trump believed. It should be thrown out by Chutkin but she is a potted plant of judge. So we have to wait for the slow wheels of justice to grind the case down some more.
