People are more complicated than the images the media creates of them. An old friend used to run shelters for female survivors of domestic abuse. Being around her, I learned quickly that an awful lot of the abusers were charming, soft-looking, "beta males," and they often checked all the politically correct liberal boxes, too. Looks and demeanor can be very deceiving.
If you're in that field, you also pick up on the fact that even small, weak-looking men can be much stronger than "strong" women and can do extreme physical damage without any weapons but their hands.
(As an aside, my friend was as "progressive" and pro-LGBTQ+ as they come, but even she was shocked by trans activists who insisted on housing biological males in womens' domestic abuse shelters.)
