"The core assumption of the ad is men hate her... it's like... if we can't vote for that douchebag Trump... before you sock me directly in the nuts let me tell you..."

Says Ben Shapiro, watching what he assures us is the worst ad he's ever seen in his life:

ADDED: Ben says the ad is paid for by the "Beige Rainbow PAC," and I was a little skeptical and looked it up. I found this in The Daily Beast: "Kamala’s Splashy Play for Trump Toadies/Vice President Kamala Harris is seeking an elusive Trump-loving demographic." This piece is written by Mini Racker, who seems to be a young woman, that is, a member of the same demographic group as, Shapiro believes, the writers of the ad). Racker says:
The eight-figure push is backed by the Beige Rainbow PAC, which registered with the Federal Election Commission a month ago. The name appears to be a reference to a quip West Wing actor Bradley Whitford made during a “White Dudes for Harris” video call earlier this summer.

So there really is a PAC with this name, and it spent at least $10 million on this ad that may be something of an intentional joke or an ambiguous play for virality. Some of the virality, however, runs against the intent of those who spent the money. Is it counterproductive? I doubt that it changes anyone's mind, and suspect that everyone — from Trump haters to Trump fans — gets a laugh out of it. Or are there some people who cry a tear when white men are stereotyped?

By the way, the Daily Beast article uses sexual metaphor to describe the pitch to white men: "Kamala Harris is heavily flirting with guys she wants to poach from MAGA World, or at least stop them from swinging that way. Her wingmen are helping...." I don't think the metaphor is wise. It's not good feminism, and quite aside from that, it resonates with stories about how she got her start in politics and it presents her in a subordinate, desperate posture that is inconsistent with the role of President of the United States.

Tim Walz doesn't seem like he really knows what he's talking about in this "car man" ad. In the '40s and even '50s, you got a manual with repair information, but not after.

That's brilliant! Changing the air filter on an oldie like that is about the most basic car maintenance task you can perform. Notice you don't even see him remove/replace the one wing nut that holds the lid on the filter housing. Probably doesn't have enough upper body strength to do it. Way to go Midwestern Dad!

Men who game are considered the least attractive by women. Or so says the latest outrage. The women who push that theory are probably the same women who made this ad, because the tone is identical. Men are lazy, men are selfish, men are stupid ... but here, let me shout at you and you'll change your behavior.

Voting for Harris is just one more bullet point on the honey-do list.

It is awfully lame that they give the guy a Hollywood "working class" accent and then make him say things with it that sound as if either his estranged wife or his insufferable college kid wore him a script. It is possible for a Pittsburgh man, say, to be Democrat - of course it is. But did they consider asking one what he'd say to try to convince his buddies down at the plant to vote for Harris?

(I mean, these days that Pittsburgh man might more likely be a Pitt student than a manufacturing worker, and he might well use up-talk instead of dese and dose. But there are surely plenty of lifelong Democrat voters among the western PA working class, and it might have been a worthwhile exercise to ask them why they intend to vote for Harris this year.)

rehajm is incorrect above. The Dems aren't stealing this election, they are simply manufacturing enough votes via unauditable unverifiable universal mail in ballots to win it. The votes will be "legal" although perhaps unassociated with any actual vote being made by an individual. Every old folk's home in the swing states will be solidly Dem votes, for example, for a few tens of thousands more votes for Harris. Every person registered to vote Dem will have a vote counted for them, whether they vote or not. The Repubs could win this election if they used the same technique of harvesting ballots, but hey, then the establishment would have Trump to deal with for a few more years. Harris wins in a squeaker, and nothing else but mail in ballot harvesting matters, even atrocious ads. Hey, the same technique got the dementia patient elected in 2020, why do you think it won't work this time?

Cool car, though. Hobby car, which most of us don't have, but cool nonetheless. I wonder if it ran on leaded... And what the gas mileage is, of course.

My former church organist is a Buick guy. He has three - beautifully restored. He and his wife take one or another of them to a lot of car shows. He votes Republican (so, yes, my former church organist is a straight white man who knows old cars; the previous one at my PA church is a gay white man, now in his 60s, who competes in bodybuilding and indubitably votes Democrat. And we all know the interesting life Shouting Thomas has led).

Anyway. The vaunted Common Man is not out to - and does not want to - drive a '79 Harvester as a daily driver. Tell me more about how this mysterious "opportunity economy" will get the guy whose daily driver is a beat-up Camry into a new hybrid, why don't you?

"it resonates with stories about how she got her start in politics."

No, it resonates with stories about how Kamala Harris got her start in whoring. She was a whore. A prostitute. She just happened to be sucking the dick of a married politician and when they were caught, he had to make up the lie that he was having an affair with her. Because that's preferable in the Democrat Party to hiring a whore.

The lie persists to this day.

Kamala Harris has never been a politician. She's always just been a regular old, garden variety street walking whore.

The ad was produced before Kamala appeared with Oprah. That was a real game changer. There's been a huge upsurge of white male support since that happened. Maybe Ellen can come out of retirement to make one last show with Kamala. That would really solidify the support. Maybe do a show with RuPaul to keep the Big Mo rolling.

The Democrats, and really, all people who like to call themselves 'progressive' are still grappling with the definitions of people who think differently than they do. And their inbred concept of regular people, and in this case, regular guys is both hilarious and pathetic.

No men think or talk like this ad supposes we do. No men are going to be swayed by this. I don't know of any breathing adult who would be swayed by this. The giveaway- like someone could actually check up on Kamala's policies? Are you kidding me? The few she has stated, they've already had to disavow. The only other times she's publicly been asked about specifics (all 7 times in total), she's talked word salads around it, ensuring us instead that she appreciates people who love a nice lawn.

She's an empty moron. No actual thinking person could vote for that- man or woman. I'll stand by that comment forever.

PS- the ad is pathetic, sophomoric, and an unbelievable view into the leftist mind.

Re: two ways to get to the comments - yes, I know... Every since the Great Blogger Refurb of 2024, though, periodically when I try to publish a threaded comment it either lets me stab at the Publish button repeatedly with no result, or gives me a "Failed to publish" error message. So I select-all my comment, cut, exit from the comment screen, re-enter the comment screen, paste, and try again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes it seems to help if I check the "Notify" box. Sometimes not. Sometimes, when I have worn out my finger stabbing at the Publish button, I leave my comment in the "box" (that I can only see the first few lines of and can only sometimes scroll through at a pace that allows me to check for typos) to marinate and continue reading, just in case there's some sort of "You're talking too much" time limit on how many comments I can publish in a short interval. That's what I originally did with my now-deleted comment from Kate's thread - but when I wanted to comment on Kate's comment, instead Blogger published my car comment beneath it. Aaargh!

And THEN I noticed some egregious typos in my car comment and deleted it.

And then the whole cycle began again.

I had a coworker once who, through a very unfortunate set of circumstances, had to care for her grandmother at the end of the grandmother's life as the old woman slipped into dementia. It seems that the grandmother had been a noteworthy beauty in her youth, and because of that she'd never bothered to learn how to be a person other people liked to be around, much less to establish that behavior as a deep-rooted habit that might linger through her dementia. In short, she was a rip-roaring bitch, just as she'd been as a young woman by family accounts, to everyone responsible for her care, and everyone from the orderlies to her own granddaughter looked forward to her death. Horrible.

My colleague said that this experience taught her a valuable lesson: beauty doesn't last forever, so be good to people even while you're beautiful.

I can see a scenario in which a prostitute gets a start in politics (or business or whatever), gives up prostitution (and I think we can be sure that Harris has long abandoned any sexual quid-pro-quo stuff she may once have taken part in), and proceeds to excel in her (or his) new endeavor.

The problem I have with Harris is not so much how she may have gotten her start but the fact that now she's going for the nation's highest office with a slogan of "Joy!" I mean, how can anyone think that's a sign of her qualifications?

Unless it actually is, in which case, how can anyone vote for her?

Well, Dems keep their eye on getting into the role in the first place, at which point laments about inconsistency become irrelevant.

The ad isn't meant to appeal to male voters. It's meant to help foster the belief among KH's core white, liberal, female supporters that the campaign has widespread support beyond that cohort. Women like Inga will see the ad and then start mentioning in passing that Kamala is now expanding her base to include former MAGA types. It's all performative and all designed to protect down-ballot candidates from an implosion of support for KH prior to election day.

Yes it's a lousy ad. The fictional dude didn't "do his research," he just bought into Democrat propaganda. Harris says she has a plan and that's good enough for him. There are working class white guys who believe that the Republicans are for the rich guys. They all already vote for the Democrats. Nobody's going to be won over by the ad.

I can only take so much Ben Shapiro though. At age 40, he shouldn't sound like he does, and he shouldn't be making jokes about lost testicles. He demonstrates in the clip that he can talk like a "dude" if wants to. Why not all the time? Has he considered Choq Male Vitality Staq supplements?

I'm pretty old now, so the first Presidential election I remember is 1960, Nixon v. Kennedy. But I couldn't vote for either candidate in 1960, because you had to be 21 to vote in those days, the Dark Ages. Still, I've been following politics for around 2/3 of a century, and I do not remember ANY Presidential candidate LESS qualified than Harris. (OK, Agnew might have been less qualified than Harris, but he was actually elected Governor of a real State.
Harris had no record of accomplishment. She was picked to be VP BECAUSE she had no political support, so she would be no threat to Biden, who, in turn, was picked because he wasn't Sen. Warren or Sen. Sanders.
If you aren't a Trump enthusiast (and I'm not), what possible reason do you have to support a Democrat candidate for President who has not won a single primary?
