Glenn Reynolds is finally noticing the carefully choreographed cacophony of Republic "end times" pieces in the media, starting with the New York Times telling its readers that the US Constitution is "dangerous" and that it needs to be eliminated. He notes Robert Reich urging the arrest of Elon Musk for failing to allow the United States government to censor the free speech rights of his customers. And many other choreographed pieces all evincing the same result.

Why is this happening, he asks?

Reynolds: "... Why is this being ginned up now? One obvious guess is in preparation for stealing the election, and keeping the aftermath under control."

You're watching the end of the United States of America.

I’m a little confused. Some people are complaining about Trump supposedly suggesting that the Constitution needs to be terminated, then in the next breath they themselves say the Constitution is dangerous. We are in crazy times.

I’d really like a reset.

I am not a fan of gender-based appeals. I’m pleased Kamala Harris has mostly avoided them.

But I am going to take the liberty of saying this:

Trump and Vance routinely and deeply disrespect, disdain, and defame women. How can women—and men who do respect women—support them?

PIERS MORGAN vs. DOUGLAS MURRAY:

PIERS MORGAN: Do you not feel that something has to give here, that this has to get resolved somehow, and that the only way to do that is, as with all these situations, you have to eventually compromise in some way? The problem for Netanyahu is that people think he is completely incapable of offering Hxmas any compromise. Therefore, there is no deal. So the families of the hostages are still there, and hundreds of thousands of protesters in Israel are on the streets of Tel Aviv right now. They are of the firm belief that it's his own intractable position on this, which is not going to allow any kind of ceasefire to be achievable.

DOUGLAS MURRAY: But there it is again, if I can say so, Piers—it's the same thing. There’s this presumption that it’s Netanyahu who is uncompromising. We end up with this notion because Netanyahu is a democratically elected leader, so it’s assumed that some pressure can be brought to bear on him. In my view, it’s not Netanyahu who’s uncompromising—it’s Hxmas. They could have handed back the hostages last October. They could have chosen not to do any of this.

I mean, they could have tried to build a state since 2005 when Israel withdrew from Gaza and handed the place over to them. Hxmas could have used the billions of dollars in aid that British, European, and American taxpayers gave them since 2006. They could have used that money to build up Gaza, to create a thriving, prosperous society. They could have made it a booming Mediterranean paradise. They could have created wealth for their people, but instead, what did they do?

They built downwards instead of upwards. They constructed a tunnel network bigger than the London Underground, and they siphoned off the money, just like Yasser Arafat did before them, making themselves rich. Why is Ismail Haniyeh worth billions of dollars? Why is Khaled Meshaal worth billions? Why do their children live like princes in luxury apartments in Doha?

Because they took the money from Americans, Brits, and Europeans and kept it for themselves, while leaving the people of Gaza in misery and poverty. Since 2005, there has been a complete counterfactual of what could have happened, but the Hxmas leadership didn’t want that. They’ve openly said they’re willing to use Palestinian children as human shields to manipulate world opinion. These are fanatics. They’re willing to sacrifice their own citizens to turn the world against Israel.

Again, how do you negotiate with that? The assumption in the West today is that because we’re so comfortable, we believe peace is the norm and historically expected. But that’s not true. We always think wars end with compromise and coming to the table, to use the cliché. But historically, most wars end because one side wins, and one side loses.

https://x.com/AGHamilton29/status/1830945784935694512

And one of the reasons, in my view, why there are endless rounds of conflict in this region is because Israel is never allowed to win, and Hxmas is always allowed to come out even. I think that simply sets up the next round of conflict. If Hxmas comes out of this with any fighting capability, then we will see another round of this war in a few years. So when David Lammy and others say we need a peace deal, I’d ask, on what terms? Everyone wants peace—except for Hxmas and the fanatics.
https://x.com/Osint613/status/1830881979450995082

Everyone else wants peace. All those people in the south, the kibbutzniks, the partygoers, and others who were murdered on October 7—they all dreamed of peace with their Palestinian neighbors, their brothers and sisters. Who made that peace impossible? Hxmas, from 2005 to today.

The Times' book critic Jennifer Szalai claimed that "The United States Constitution is in trouble" due to the fact that former President Trump was able to become president through the Electoral College.

"Americans have long assumed that the Constitution could save us; a growing chorus now wonders whether we need to be saved from it," Szalai said. "The document that’s supposed to be a bulwark against authoritarianism can end up fostering the widespread cynicism that helps authoritarianism grow."

How many people have ever heard of Jennifer Szalai or have read her book reviews?

That’s such bs, gadfly, and I think you know it. People vote in their State. Their States present that vote to the Union as whatever part of the population they represent. It’s not rocket science and it’s not authoritarian. Not one person ever is always happy with the outcome. Checks and balances work to temper dramatic changes. Being mature about this process is an expectation of good citizenship. After all, we VOTE.

We, the People can be as cynical as we like. We still own our vote. The only condition we have to meet is being 18, a legal citizen, and not incarcerated.

So gadfly doesn't like the Electoral College and wants to get rid of it because Trump. He wants the popular vote to determine the winner. So if say California someday has 51% of the US population (very possible, since it's becoming Northern Mexico), California alone picks our President? Yay, gadfly! Vote for Pedro!

If the electoral college favored the globalists gadfly would accuse anybody who even suggested that it be reconsidered a traitor.

tim in vermont said...

There are also a lot of Republicans in blue states, and red, who don't bother voting because it doesn't matter. I mean, how much incentive is there for a Republican to vote for President in California, or even really, to be honest, in Florida or Oklahoma, where the outcome is well known well in advance. So any election run without the electoral college, which is a nice holdover from the Holy Roman Empire, would be a completely different animal with a completely different electorate.

Funny how red Florida turned after the voting system was cleaned up after 2000. That election was quite a lesson to Democrats about the perils of honest vote counting for them.

It's looking more and more like 'tim in vermont' is a paid Russian propagandist. Why no link to the video the Russians have supposedly released, so we can judge for ourselves? Why no evidence of the supposed "shit show" in Kursk? I can offer actual evidence that it is in fact a shit show for Russia. Here's one little bit from the huge masses of available evidence: @WarTranslated, an Estonian living in London, reports from Russian sources that the Russian checkpoints in Kursk are unmanned after dark and that "Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) are moving freely without encountering resistance. They burn whatever they want, whenever they want." (link). He gives the Russian text as well as his own translation and a clip of a Russian saying so on cell-phone video. There are masses of other evidence that the Ukrainians have in fact captured hundreds of soldiers and dozens of vehicles, including seven tanks in one incident, and thousands more, and have several thousand trapped on the wrong side of the Sejm river. They've blown up the three bridges over it, and at least five pontoon bridges the Russians have built to try to extract their men and equipment. Buy hey, "Russians have released a video". Note that the Ukrainians have hundreds of blow-up rubber vehicles and weapons systems and it's easy to find examples on Twitter of Russians boasting about blowing them up, unaware that they're fakes and the weapons used to blow them up cost far more than the decoys.

P.S. I forgot to mention that the Russian guy says the abandoned checkpoints in Kursk oblast are as far as 30 km from the front line. That's how far Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance teams can go at night.
