RCOCEAN II said...: Got dragged into watching Hello Dolly again. I thought this movie was dead and buried but its 29 dollars on blue-ray and the Striesand fans never die or wise up. Gene Kelly directed and does a terrible job. This is the man who did all those wonderful dance routines in "On the Town" and "Singing in the Rain", but here its just an army of people jumping and prancing around.

The movie LOOKS great. Huge number of extras, period coustums (sic), great set design, a huge marching band. All the money is up there on the screen, they forgot to cast the movie right, tell any funny jokes, or sing any good songs except for....Hello Dolly. 2.5 hours of relentless mediocrity. Not to mention Striesand and Matthau (supposedly in love!) look absurd in 1890s clothes. No wonder these old timey musicals went the way of the Dodo bird. No; 8/20/24, 8:33 PM

Unless you find yourself widowed at age 39 you should be out of the dating scene and firmly attached to a significant other- for at least 12 years. Especially as a woman. Because age 27 is when fertility begins to rapidly decline if a woman hasn't already had children. Reality 101- same isn't true of men. At 39 if they've played their cards right- they're into their peak earning years. They have their pick of 24-27 year old women unless they're obese and ugly. And if they have enough money- even those handicaps aren't a real obstacle.

Realities of life are cruel. Even to men. Seems 80% of young women are all trying to date the same 10% of the men. From their own age on up. Men are looking for women the same age or less.

Just had our 47th anniversary. At 23 for me, 21 for her, we removed ourselves from the dating pool. Well, sort of- but from then on we only dated each other. The longer you wait to make a commitment to someone of the opposite sex, the less likely you are to find someone to commit back. Again with reality 101- especially for a woman.

Was I the perfect man or her the perfect women? No. But- we both fell into the category of "good enough" for each other.

3 of my 5 children are married and likely to stay that way. My eldest chose poorly. Didn't follow my advice and dump her before marriage. For different reasons then my wife and siblings gave to him. Mine was simple statistics- she smoked, he didn't. In order of divorce frequency, 1. female smoker, male non-smoker- usually initiated by the woman 2. Both smoke 3. male smoker- female non-smoker 4. both are non-smokers.

I'm fairly certain the same statistics apply to drug use and tattoos. But oddly, not alcohol use... or even alcohol abuse.
