In my asshole opinion Muslims need to get with the American constitution and realize their feelings do not override other Americans' right to self expression under the first amendment. If they believe their faith is incompatible with living in a free country the answer is simple: go live somewhere else. And the mayor and every other politician pandering to the hatred of the death cult wing of Islam can go to hell, figuratively and literally.

When Muslims ruled over that part of India, they had no problem tearing down a Hindu temple which honored the birth place of Ram. In fact, the mosque was named "Masjid-i-Janmasthan" ("the mosque of the birthplace"). Hard to say from this distance in time if the Muslims were trying to be syncretic or were dunking-on the subjugated population. After the destruction of the Mosque, which based on images I could find, was a shithole compared to the new temple, the courts ordered an excavation and found an underlying structure, typical of temples in that part of India. The court awarded the site to the Hindus and gave a larger parcel for Muslims to build a new Mosque.

But Muslims can build a Mosque on the site of the Temple in Jerusalem and that's perfectly OK. I think everyone, the British, America, the Irish, the entire EU, is afraid of Muslims. Muslims have a doctrine that in effect says - “if we conquer it, it’s ours forever and tough luck if you disagree. That’s the reason they have gotten their feathers in a whirl over the float - they see it as fairly stolen property by the Hindu’s who rebuilt their original temple on the site.
Same as the Hagia Sophia that has been “repurposed” as a mosque (that cathedral brings chills to the self when you enter it). And who can forget the Dome of the Rock sitting on Temple Mount with its inscribed verses mocking Christians. But to be fair - all religions do the same when they conquer. Just Muslims resent it publicly.
Adams needs to ignore the complains and teach a “tolerance” lesson. ( fat chance - he’ll roll and cancel at the last moment with a “public safety”concern) .

When I visited Hagia Sophia, about 20 years ago, there was talk of making it a museum but that was before Erdogan went radical. They were taking down the panels with Koran quotes and finding the original Christian mosaics. The workers who put up those panels were Christian and protected the mosaics they were covering in hopes that one day it would again be a church.

It seems to be a self-reinforcing extremist religion. There's no 'central authority' to regulate things - the Imams give their own interpretations and if it draws people then all well and good and they'll go in the directions they want.
One thing, one direction you don't see is tolerance for others. The folks pushing that idea past 9/11 have refused to look at the reality of that religion. Can't say I blame 'em, who wants their worldview blown apart and have to reconstruct what you're thinking from scratch?

But that's the principle that underlies our federal Government (and may apply to State laws through the 14th Amendment). If you don't agree with the position taken on a political issue go argue your case!
For me, I would prefer to tolerate any religion that tolerates mine.
Just recently listened to Jordan Peterson's podcast with "Tommy Robinson." The rules are different for Muslims. If you disagree, they will make sure that you understand that you are wrong.
