Trying to dump Biden and Harris now would render the whole primary season a nullity and sets a precedent that parties whose candidates are losing in the polls in the summer before election day should swap in a new candidate chosen in haste by convention delegates or the national party. This is undemocratic and another abandonment of accepted norms.
It'd also be a slap in the face to the veep and her supporters, and an open admission that she never should have been chosen as Biden's running mate in the first place.
Pulling the plug on Biden-Harris would also still result in a Trump victory, in all probability. It's just a Hail Mary, but one that comes with the downsides mentioned above.
If you're the dems, you're better to just letting this play out and try again in 2028.

Each party puts forth a slate of candidates and you choose the slate and then you choose which person on the slate you prefer.

Shapiro 8%
etc
Republican 49.9%
Trump 28%
Vivek 8%
Haley 6%
DeSantis 5%
Etc
And the will would be Biden (even though Trump got more of the vote)
This way the Dems get to keep control of the government without having to produce viable candidates.

Harris is not the only black woman in a leadership position in the Democractic party. Maxine Waters. Shiela Jackskon Lee. Cora Bush. Secretary Fudge. Lori Lightfoot, or any of a number of accomplised mayors. Biden could stand down in deference to one of these.

I also think the writer's contention that black voters are pragmatic and strategic can be viewed as true if you limit the word "voters" to "community leaders" - those people are very very pragmatic and personally strategic, but also seem less than fully committed, shall we say, to the actual welfare of the people who are influenced strongly by how those leaders tell them they should vote.

There's about 3 and a half months to the election. To get Biden out there would have to be Congress impeaching and convicting (good luck, Congress is busy campaigning) or the 25th Amendment (which only works if the president is in a coma). Other than that, persuade him to resign or drop from reelection - good luck with that).
I don't see how any of that works in the time left. I can speculate, but someone in that office, with all the powers available (including pardon) isn't too susceptible to pressure from outside.
Nixon is the outlier because (a) the House was controlled by the Democrats and (b) the Senate was controlled by Democrats and Republican senators told him he didn't have enough support to beat conviction. Republicans control the House, why would they break their campaigns to get the Democrats out of this jam?

The problem I see is that Biden made a deal 4 1/2 years ago with the Black establishment, through Rep Clyburn. The Black establishment got Harris, and Biden got their support. We aren’t so much talking run of the mill Blacks, but esp Black ministers (illegally) pushing their candidacy from the pulpit. The danger is that these Black ministers, etc, aren’t going to push the Dem candidate, and worse, that there won’t be a counter to Trump coming into Black communities and pushing his own candidacy. And this year, as we have seen, the threat is real. A lot of Blacks really like Trump. He speaks to many of them*. Black leadership had a deal with the Dems’ white leadership, and the latter are talking about welshing on it.
*Trump’s attraction to Blacks this year is not an illusion. We have a place at Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas. Meet a lot of Blacks there, including much of the staff. He has a lot of Blue Collar appeal, which is important in heavily unionized towns like LAS. Because of where we live, I have a lot of Trump hats (today’s is Navy Blue), and I get a lot of positive comments on them - and in that town, by a lot of working Class Blacks.
