Catching up with a favorite mushroom.

You remember yesterday's "Fungus of the Day," the one you thought looked like the back of Donald Trump's head. Here's a different angle on the now-famous mushroom, photographed on the same day (July 5th), this time including its small companion:

IMG_7497

And to take an even longer view, here's Meade's photograph of me getting into the weeds:

IMG_8553

I should admit that mushroom was also "The 4th of July Fungus," the one that looked disgusting at first and then, 21 hours later, flipped into something pleasingly jaunty.

The July 5th photo of the mushroom, above, shows it in decline. And now, here's how it looked today:

IMG_7555

If they could only see its shocking, advanced state of decline, the other mushrooms would surely demand that it withdraw from the ongoing "Fungus of the Day" race.

UPDATE, July 8th. In tatters:

In Ukraine, Killings of Surrendering Russians Divide an American-Led Unit

Hours after a battle in eastern Ukraine in August, a wounded and unarmed Russian soldier crawled through a nearly destroyed trench, seeking help from his captors, a unit of international volunteers led by an American.
Caspar Grosse, a German medic in that unit, said he saw the soldier plead for medical attention in a mix of broken English and Russian. It was dusk. A team member looked for bandages.
That is when, Mr. Grosse said, a fellow soldier hobbled over and fired his weapon into the Russian soldier’s torso. He slumped, still breathing. Another soldier fired — “just shot him in the head..”
Ryan O’Leary, the de facto commander of Chosen Company and a former U.S. Army National Guardsman from Iowa denied that members had committed war crimes. He said that his fighters had killed wounded Russians, but only those they wanted to.

Desperate for personnel, the military opened its ranks to thousands of international volunteers after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Fighters with varying degrees of experience and professionalism, some of whom would not have been allowed near a battlefield in an American-led war, were welcomed and armed.
Mr. O’Leary wanted Chosen to be a home for professional, disciplined fighters. The unit — a mix that included deserters, thrill seekers and aging soldiers — became a hub for volunteers seeking combat.
Benjamin Reed, a former Chosen member from Massachusetts, said that even the unit’s recruiter told him that it “was OK to kill P.O.W.s

Apparently gilbar doesn't know that the Russians have been murdering surrendered prisoners all along, at least 90 so far, that just a few weeks ago they cut off the head of a prisoner, took pictures of it resting on the hood of their vehicle, and uploaded it to social media, that they have castrated some prisoners, that they torture and starve all of their prisoners, so that many of those who are exchanged are 80-100 pounds underweight. (The Red Cross makes sure that Russian prisoners in Ukraine are well-fed and well-treated, but they have no access to Russian prison camps and don't seem to mind that.)

If some Ukrainians and allies have sunk part-way to the Russian level, it would not be surprising. It would also not be at all surprising if what gilbar quotes turns out to be a lie and a fraud, like so many anti-Ukraine stories. (No, Mrs. Zelenskyy did not buy a $4,800,000 Bugatti last week, and Bugatti is suing the lying assholes who said she did.)

There was a good question asked a few posts ago, namely, who co-ordinated the media "stampede" following on Joe Biden's debate debacle and why did it happen? I propose that Biden lost the black vote and the black leaders knew it at once. Of course, the media took pains and is taking pains to say that only the high-ups are being consulted, only world leaders and campaign leaders and the VP and state governors and US Senators. But the media lies so if that's the lie they are telling that means that they've heard from a key voting group and I bet it was the black community. In fact, I think they're doing everything they can to keep journalists from interviewing people in the black community on their reactions to the debate. Take a look at the video Narciso posted:

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2024/07/07/biden-visits-black-church-n2176484

The comments within the video are about how Biden is looking at notes, etc. But what I notice is how silent the church people are and how Biden is isolated. Remember that great video where Dave Chapelle talks about Jussie Smollett and how the black community IS supporting Jussie, they AREN'T SAYING ANYTHING? Well, perhaps that's happening now. Perhaps they AREN'T SAYING ANYTHING.

France:
PARIS (Reuters) -France faced potential political deadlock after elections on Sunday threw up a hung parliament, with a leftist alliance unexpectedly taking the top spot but no group winning a majority.

Voters delivered a major setback for Marine Le Pen's nationalist, eurosceptic National Rally (RN), which opinion polls had predicted would win the second-round ballot but ended up in the third spot, according to pollsters' projections.

The results were also a blow for centrist President Emmanuel Macron, who called the snap election to clarify the political landscape after his ticket took a battering at the hands of the RN in European Parliament elections last month.

He ended up with a hugely fragmented parliament, in what is set to weaken France's role in the European Union and elsewhere abroad and make it hard for anyone to push through a domestic agenda.

The election will leave parliament divided in three big groups - the left, centrists, and the far right - with hugely different platforms and no tradition at all of working together.

True.

The traditional voters in the center in the UK and France just found out explicitly that the party leadership of the so called "center" and barely "center right" parties are fully aligned with the agenda of the WEF and hard left, So much so that over 200 so called labeled "center" and barely "center right" party candidates dropped out to hand vctory to the hard left.

Precisely the type of electoral shenanigans Paul Ryan pulled in 2018 in terms of strategic retirings of republicans in the House to ensure throwing power to the dems...so they could lead serial shampeachments and lawfare against Trump and to stop transparency and ensctment of America First immigration, economic and cultural policies.

And Ryan received a very, very nice payoff for doing so from Team Globalist, specifically the Murdoch's.

As with Trump, the so called "far right" (falsely labeled again) showed large gains across the board as citizens see the destruction of their societies on the line and just like the GOPe, the "center" in both the UK and France are now fully exposed.

Just pull up the video of Sunak and cabinet in the UK the morning after their historic losses. They were literally whooping it up and celebrating...and it wasnt surprising in the least.

The good thing about having Lewy Body Dementia for Joe Biden is that it can't be proven until an autopsy. So he has that going for him.

Regarding France and Britain, both countries now have had governments that all but completely destroyed their own political parties out of loyalty to Kiev's side in the civil war. The first thing that the new socialist prime minister of the UK said was that his first and most important job was to support Zelensky in the war, Zelensky who refuses negotiations, this is after the last. government got thrown out because Britain is going to Hell in a hand basket, lust like France, due in no small part to their cutoff of cheap energy and resources from Russia. Now they get to pay us double what they were paying Putin! Yay!

imTay said...

"Apparently gilbar doesn't know that the Russians have been murdering surrendered prisoners all along,"

Every accusation is a confession with Dr Weevil. But we do appreciate his breathless recounting of Ukrainian ultranationalist propaganda.

That's not to say that bad stuff doesn't happen in war time. It's just that Kiev has a lot more interest in having the world perceive that the Russians are committing atrocities than the Russians do. These kinds of stories help Kiev, which is why Dr Weevil is here repeating them, and hurt Moscow.

We also know that Kiev is big on manufacturing false evidence and putting it out fhere. For instance the SBU did their own analysis of who fired the shots in Maidan Square to kill demonstrators, after courts of law found that it was the Righ Sector, part of the Maidan movement, who fired them, and lo and hehold, the SBU ran some tests and found that they themselves were actually innocent.

The problem with lying constantly is that the truth catches up with you. The Russians demanded a UN investigation of Bucca, and it was blocked by the US, the Russians demanded a UN investigation of that shootdown of the transport plane full of Ukrainian prisoners, the US blocked it, same with the pipeline, same with that dam that provided water to Crimea, yet we block these investigations each time they are demanded? You know why? Because we know exactly what they would find.

At this point, cell phone video out of Ukraine is useless as evidence, both sides create fake Telegram channels that purport to be aligned with the other side. Certainty about anything that comes out of a war zone is the sign of a fool or a propagandist.

Hard to ignore Biden’s role in committing all the unending support of Ukraine by the EU, including nixing negotiating an end to it early on. I suppose he’s delighted with these recent electoral outcomes, though. Death and destruction is a winning strategy for them.

Not sure Macron's gamble paid off. Probably his idea was to have RN winning with a slight majority and forcing them to govern in cohabitation with him. That would have exposed RN's inconsistencies. But now it's on the center and left to govern. Will they be able?

The left are as surprised and perplexed by their (relative) majority as everyone else. They agree on very little except a tribal identity - and they hold only about 1/3 of the seats. A left wing government would have a half-life measured in weeks - either they explode or they lose a censure vote.

Macron should ask them to name their candidate for prime minister. Not only don't they have one, but they have no agreement on how to select one. And Mélenchon is busy purging again, to get the party atmosphere warmed up.

imTay said...

Well, if you assume that Europe is run, like the United States, by a single corrupt cabal whose members wear different colors depending, but believe the same things, mostly that "the peasants are revolting," it worked out fine, just like it did in the UK. The globalists are large and in charge in both countries, and are in a position to wipe out the national identities of both countries.

Once the Ukrainians see what these people do to France and England, they will switch sides.

Parkinsons symptom, and that's best case for Joe. Other strong possibilities include a disease that causes visual hallucinations, which is one possible interpretation of some of the bizarre video that cam out of Europe.

I remember as a kid my piano teacher had Parkinsons, he would write little notes on the lessons in a squiggly hand that was actually pretty amazing, It would probably take a trained artist to reproduce it. I wish I still had an example of it. But he was teaching elementary students how to play piano, not trying to "run the whole world," as he describes it.

DOJ seeks foothold after Supreme Court loss on Jan. 6 obstruction charge (The Hill)

"Swaths of Jan. 6 rioters could face resentencing or additional proceedings this summer after the Supreme Court ruled that the Department of Justice (DOJ) overreached in its sweeping prosecution of the Capitol attack.

The decision has left federal prosecutors scrambling to redefine their use of the newly neutered obstruction charge and maintain their long-held narrative that the riot was a threat to American democracy.

More than 350 rioters accused of interrupting Congress’s certification of the 2020 electoral vote were charged with obstruction of an official proceeding, about a quarter of those charged for their roles in the attack.

Since the Supreme Court issued its decision narrowing that charge, trial-level judges have started to reopen some cases tied to the 2021 Capitol attack. The Justice Department has urged them to slam the brakes.

The arguments put forth by federal prosecutors in the aftermath of the high court’s decision show the Justice Department has latched onto Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s concurring opinion, in which she signaled her belief it is possible for Joseph Fischer — the rioter who challenged the obstruction charge — and other defendants to still be prosecuted under it.

Jackson, the high court’s newest liberal justice, signed onto the conservative-majority opinion and broke from the other two liberals, who were joined instead by conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett in their dissent.
"

Sure, double down on using § 1512(c)(2) of Sarbanes-Oxley, which was never intended for use in the circumstances at hand for J6, - or was it? - sure, that'll work.

Boeing accepts a plea deal to avoid a criminal trial over 737 Max crashes, Justice Department says (AP)

"Boeing will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge stemming from two crashes of 737 Max jetliners that killed 346 people after the government determined the company violated an agreement that had protected it from prosecution for more than three years, the Justice Department said Sunday night.

Federal prosecutors gave Boeing the choice last week of entering a guilty plea and paying a fine as part of its sentence or facing a trial on the felony criminal charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Prosecutors accused the American aerospace giant of deceiving regulators who approved the airplane and pilot-training requirements for it.

Selective non-prosecution. DOJ should have filed charges in Manhattan.

"The plea deal, which still must receive the approval of a federal judge to take effect, calls for Boeing to pay an additional $243.6 million fine. That was the same amount it paid under the 2021 settlement that the Justice Department said the company breached. An independent monitor would be named to oversee Boeing’s safety and quality procedures for three years. The deal also requires Boeing to invest at least $455 million in its compliance and safety programs."

Second chances for favored players. They must have had extra Brownie Points for having a DEI program.

To take one example: he pretends that the Russians did not blow up the Nova Kakhovka dam. We know for a fact that they did, because: (a) the Russian battalion that did it bragged about it on social media for the first hour or two, until they realized the flood was so big it was drowning a lot of Russian soldiers downstream, and started denying it; (b) the dam was built to withstand a nuclear explosion (you can find the plans on the web), and could only be destroyed by explosives placed at specific points in tunnels made for the purpose, which could only be done by those occupying the site, who were all Russians, and (c) the Russians like blowing up Ukrainian dams - just yesterday, a top Russian propagandist was complaining that Putin hasn't destroyed the dam north of Kyiv and flooded the whole city to drown tens of thousands.

Why didn't Putin blow up the Kyiv dam? He was too busy hitting the childrens' hospital and maternity hospital in Kyiv and another hospital elsewhere in Ukraine. Last I saw on Twitter, the death toll had gone from 17 to 28 to 36 and was expected to rise further, and the wounded was up 140.
