Growing rather slowly, arent they? But the caps on the larger individuals will be opening soon, and the partial veil now covering the gills will pull away from the cap to expose them, forming a ring on the stem. The bulbous bases will persist but be less prominent. Still Leucoagaricus for me.

Meade and Ann, you seem to have some intellectual curiosity about these very interesting organisms, and if I recall right, you collect springtime morels for the table. But there are also vast numbers of delicious gourmet edible mushrooms that appear in your area in the summer and fall. To learn more about them first-hand, you might consider taking part in the Northwoods Foray held each September by the Wisconsin Mycological Society in the town of Cable way up in Bayfield County. I've been and it is a very enjoyable and instructive event.
