"For months, Republicans have claimed, without producing evidence, that President Biden somehow profited from his son’s overseas business deals..."

"... in hopes of diverting attention from the accusations against former President Donald J. Trump and initiating a tit-for-tat impeachment. But it is the son — and not the father — who will stand trial during an election year in which Mr. Trump has already been convicted of felony."

From "Live Updates: Hunter Biden’s Trial in Gun Case Begins/The president’s son goes on trial in Wilmington, Del., on three charges that he lied about his drug use on a federal firearms application in 2018. The unusual prosecution carries stiff penalties: up to 25 years in prison and a $750,000 fine" (NYT).

"[Hallie] told [Hunter] she had found his gun and thrown it into a trash can [near Janssen’s Market]. He immediately became alarmed, angrily telling her to go retrieve it, text messages show. Just before noon, according to the video footage, Hallie... checked two trash cans, and when she could not find the gun, she approached the store owner and relayed what had happened. The police were called and, by 12:56 p.m., opened a gun theft case, with Hunter listed as the victim and Hallie as the suspect.... Hallie called Hunter, who also came to the store to talk to police.... He wondered aloud whether store workers might have taken the gun from the trash can, pointing to two Latino men in Janssen’s Market shirts and saying, “Yea, prolly illegal.”... The officer asked whether he was using drugs, floating that as a reason that Hallie was searching his truck. “Listen, it isn’t like that,” Hunter responded, according to the police report. “I think she believes I was gonna kill myself.” He told the officer that he was living a nightmare, that he had fallen in love with his brother’s widow, and that he was depressed but in love."
At the end of that article:
A week ago, President Biden visited Hallie Biden’s house for about 15 minutes, a trip that White House officials said was connected not to Hunter’s upcoming trial but to the ninth anniversary of Beau’s death. On Thursday, the Bidens went to church and visited Beau’s grave, with Hunter walking out just before his father. Hallie was not with them.

"without evidence" means there is evidence and the claim is likely true, but it is inconvenient.

You get the idea that journalists do not know what "evidence" means. But then again they typically do not know what "journalism" is either.

Huh? At least part of the money trail led directly from china to Joe's account, as "loan repayment." And of course, family use of the family name to sell Joe's influence is itself corrupt.

"The unusual prosecution carries stiff penalties"

Ah, so this one is "unusual." All the other stuff is "the rule of law," which we all revere. By the way, why did DOJ let the statute of limitations expire on Hunter's earlier tax fraud?

“without producing evidence” = “without our acknowledging that dead elephant in the room’s worth of evidence.”

I tremble for my country, legitimately, if Hunter walks after Trump’s conviction. There may or may not be violence afterward, but no nation in which half the country cheers two corrupt judicial outcomes and the other half justly loses all faith in the judicial system cannot long endure. “A house divided,” and all that.

The gun charges are just a convenient way to charge Hunter with something (so that they can feign impartiality) that does not involve Joe.

The evidence is the data from Hunter Biden’s laptop that the NYT and 50 former intel employees, some paid by the 2020 Biden campaign, fraudulently claim is Russian Disinformation that it exists. However, in this trial, the data will be used as evidence against Hunter Biden. Perhaps that’s a ploy by DoJ officials to ultimately get the laptop data rejected as evidence, but that may work about as well as the attempts to claim Ashley Biden’s diary wasn’t actually hers.

Also, Congress has more evidence of the Biden family earnings from foreign businesses. It is only declared not to be evidence because it comes from Republicans. Sort of like it is fine to embezzle from Republican candidates and then testify that they are frauds that ought to be convicted of also being Republicans.

We now Know the liberal/left MSM editors knew this was a LIE. They deliberately lied to help Biden. The MSM knew the laptop existed and the Federal DA and the FBI had started an investigation in Spring 2020.

Maybe Joe profited from it, maybe not. Either way, when the president's son is using his father's name to peddle influence around the world: it's a big fucking deal and the kind of thing the NYT would care about if Don Jr was doing it. All the wasted pearl clutching over people staying at the Trump Hotel but the major media isn't the least big curious what Hunter was doing in Ukraine who the rich people buying Hunter Biden's painting are!?!?

Hunter Biden had the DNC pay off his baby mama in plain sight and nobody asks any questions about whether this is even legal or ethical. "Wait, I don't remember the DNC paying off his baby mama." That's right, you don't because he "paid" his daughter's child support with one of his "paintings." Shouldn't somebody as (maybe someone in the media) whether that painting he gave to his daughter in lieu of child support already has a rich buyer and who that person is. But they won't because in 2024 bribing a politician's family is someone not a crime prohibited by the United States Code.

The President's son sits on a Ukrainian energy company board. A couple years later *someone* blows up Russian a gas pipeline. All together now: let's ask ZERO QUESTIONS because obviously there is THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT JOE MADE MONEY SO THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE.

Would it surprise me if the United State's whole initial involvement in the Ukraine war was about that fucking pipeline all along? No at all. Not until someone starts answering important questions. But, someone has got to start asking them.

By the way, if you haven't seen the clips of Dave Smith debate against Chris Coumo you need to see it today. Watching Coumo squirm is delightful.

How do you know a Democrat is lying?

Anytime they say "without producing evidence", they're lying.

The GOP produced a check from Joe brother to him, that came right after said brother received a payoff.
Hunter Biden stated to his daughter in a text, found on his laptop, that his Dad took 50% of every corrupt payment Hunter received
Hunter Biden's business partner testified under oath that Joe Biden was "the big guy" who "got 10%" of every deal.

This is more evidence than Trump was convicted on, and unlike with Trump, the witness didn't perjure himself during his testimony about Biden's crimes.

When a Democrat says "without evidence" or "refuses to argue/claim", what they mean is "the evidence is so overwhelming I can't dispute it" or "the arguments / claims are so strong I can't dispute them"

What is "unusual" about enforcing gun control laws?

Is this the NYT's way of saying that "conservatives are right, the only intended purpose of gun control laws is to disarm the law abiding, thus we try to never actually punish criminals for violating them"?

If you still read the NYT seriously, you might not be lucid enough to remember any of this. But let's review:

1) Hunter Biden has had to repeatedly admit, under oath, that he was addicted to illegal drugs at the time of his illegal gun purchases.

2) Hunter Biden's laptop is filled with images of his illegal drug use and extreme symptoms of drug use (his meth mouth, for instance)

3) A major reason we're talking about this at all is because the cretin put up a nudie pic where he's holding the illegal gun.

The NYT can't find the evidence of Hunter Biden's criminality, or the Epstein child abuse network, because they are an integral part of that criminal conspiracy. If only a skilled legal analyst could mention any of these facts.

While I would not vote guilty were I on this jury for this particular crime, this prosecution is only happening because the Biden Administration was feeling the heat coming from the various Trump indictments, but even with that they were prepared to give Hunter a sweetheart deal on the gun charge- something they would never do were this Donald Trump's sons. They had already run out the statute of limitations clock, deliberately so, on the clear-cut tax evasion on over a million dollars of undeclared income- you try that as a nobody and the IRS and DoJ will string you up. Additionally, were Hunter Biden a Republican, he would have been charged with FARA violations.

Of course, Hunter Biden isn't going to be convicted here even though he is very likely guilty of the crime just based on the publicly available evidence evidence (I am assuming there is no doubt he is the one that signed the form).

Tina Trent said...

Why do Republicans have to produce more evidence than they have already revealed, of both implications of influence peddling and a cover-up by the Executive Branch?

The DOJ and FBI should have been investigating already.

Congress can hold hearings, or impeach. They had the power to do this a long time ago, but they squandered their chance at the time.

That doesn't let the DOJ or the FBI off the hook, but it does mean that we are not being served in a timely or serious manner over grave issues of international policy by our elected officials in the GOP. And it means that the Democrats are blocking avenues for investigation into these grave issues, to put it mildly.

Where the laptop came from... why the media can't point out when Joe obviously is shitting his diaper during a press conference... the war with Russia... why? Because the press is as corrupt as the Soviet democrat party itself.

The Special Counsel appointed by Merrick Garland, David Weiss, who tried to push Hunter Biden's sweetheart plea deal past this same court will lead the prosecution in front of a Delaware jury approved by the defense and ... David Weiss.

The chances that Hunter Biden will be convicted are quite small.

It's unusual to charge someone for lying on the paperwork to get a gun, if the lie is discovered before they get the gun. It's not unusual to file criminal charges if they do get the gun.

Hunter Biden was an unstable addict with a gun, which he shoved in a glove compartment accessible to his children. He is the person the laws were written about.

You assume "without evidence" you can read the minds of people who put those bumber stickers opn their vehicles.

Yet you can't cite a single example of anyone holding the absurd idea that jailed prisoners have the right to firearms.

disposing of an unlicensed weapon is a felony, full stop, doesn't matter if a third party did it, the fact it was his brothers widow who did it, in this funhouse version of yellowstone makes it even more akward, but she was a recipient of the laundered funds,

This is how the left operates- they fling whatever dogshit idea pops into their heads into an argument and when it's exposed as being as silly as it obviously is, they refuse to defend it, act like they never said it and proceed dispensing some new verbal diarrhea as though there's a nugget of wisdom caked inside.

Hunter Biden and a Delaware jury are the opposite side of the NYC Trump jury. I am still surprised that two lawyers thought so little of their honor as to sign this sham verdict.

Hunter's laptop is the main evidence, but that was produced by the Russians, not Republicans, or something. And all those transfers from the foreign sources to bank accounts, "repayments" to Joe for loans never recorded? None so blind as those who will not see.

The President of the United States took time out from his busy schedule of jawboning Israelis to visit his daughter-in-law? He didn't just call? He drove there? And stayed for only fifteen minutes?

Did she throw him out?

For as much as you gun humpers hate gun laws, you all seem very eager to use those very same gun laws you hate against Hunter Biden.

Be fair. I also LOOOOOVE seeing him brought up on tax charges while pops is trying to tell me that I am "not paying my fair share."

Make the enemy live by their own set of rules. It's fucking awesome. I also love seeing Trump sued for libel BTW since he was the one that wanted to "open up the libel laws." Love it. Love it. Love it.

'without producing evidence'

Why do I get the feeling the only evidence they would accept is a cancelled check with "Bribe for Joe Biden" written at the bottom.

And even then they probably wouldn't accept it.

It's dumb that he hasn't been indicted on state charges in Arkansas or Florida or Montana or someplace. Indict brother Frank in Florida:

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/frank-biden-leveraged-famous-business-gain/story?id=68202529

Indict Jill Biden in Alaska. Preemptively indict Michelle Obama. Indict Hilary. Find some nexus to indict Nancy Pelosi for insider trading in fucking Kansas, and Indiana, and Louisiana, and Kentucky, and Tennessee (insert Howard Dean scream here). Indict Nancy Pelosi everywhere you can find a conservative DA.

Indict everyone and then at the end everyone can agree to a hostage exchange. But right now there is no leverage.

I love "somehow profited." I mean, it's like the simplest form of "profit" there is - cash. Joe didn't even have to pretend he's an artist so he could "sell his art."

We're nobody, not even lawyers, but we've lent decent amounts of money to family members - and can prove they were loans with actual notarized documents. Are the Bidens, especially the lawyer Bidens, all too ignorant to have thought to do that? Too addled by whatever substance? Or what?

They're Democrats. They have no expectation of being held to the standards other people are.

You leftist losers refuse to see what’s in front of you. The people on the other end of the emails, texts and WhatsApp messages have corroborated the most damaging parts of the laptop from hell. They have produced independent copies stored at their end. The doofus son of the doofus POTUS backed up his IPhones to the laptop with all the corroborating timestamps and videos and amateur porn, including frolicking with obviously underage honey traps in China during those famous Air Force Two shuttles to seal Hunter and Jim’s deals with the CCP — with “10% for the Big Guy” held for feeble Joe.

Deny it all you want. The precedent has been set with Trump. Soon to be former president Biden is up to his unnaturally tight neck in graft and corruption. And his son delivered almost all the evidence needed in nice little bundle. You can’t wish it away. The DNC Media Complex can’t cover it all up and the Truth will out. The trial will not require novel theories and unique prosecutorial gambits. It is a simple tale of a family that siphoned enormous wealth out of some of the skeeviest nation-states and allowed the vice-president’s son to blow much of it on hookers and crack right out there in the open.

Pass the popcorn.

He didn't buy the gun "improperly" he bought it completely, absolutely, undeniably illegally. When the other plea deal was falling apart under scrutiny, I suggested in Althouse's comment section that convicting the weasel on the gun charge, with its onerous penalties and easy proof, was a great way to convince him to roll on the corruption of the Biden family enterprise. While I seriously doubt that is happening, it is still nice to see him facing the consequences of at least these actions.

As an old-school liberal , I gotta tell you — on first reading, I found it quite disturbing that, on top of everything else, the President’s son had been clubbing baby seals and uploading the evidence to his hellish laptop. Terrible!
