A little touch of Abbey Road.

Yes, when Meade saw the pic, he said, “But where are the Beatles?”

Bill Walton passed today. He was so awesome. I met him in Atlanta in 1988 or 1999. Super nice guy.

1989. Whoops.

Dave Begley বলেছেন...

Walton was 21 for 22 and scored 44 points in the NCAA championship game his junior year. That record still stands.

This is the photo that, for me, defines Memorial Day:

I just finished reading "Shy" by Mary Rodgers and Jesse Green. It's the memoirs of Richard Rodgers' daughter as told to and edited by Jesse Green. It's pretty good. The book was written when she was close to death and not published until several years after her death and the deaths of most of the people she describes. It's very outspoken and frank. Not just Mommy Dearest but Showbiz World Dearest in its brutal putdowns of many of the people she worked with over the years. The putdowns are delivered with brio and wit. It's fun to read... The editor/ghost writer, Jesse Green, has footnotes on almost every page. The footnotes are like a Greek chorus. She drops a name, and the footnote details how the person mentioned later went on to commit suicide or suffer some other sorry fate....Mary Rodgers was a talented woman. She wrote one successful Broadway musical (Once Upon A Mattress) and one children's book Freaky Friday that's some kind of YA classic. She wrote a good chunk of the movie versions too....She was born with wealth and talent and achieved success in a number of different fields--including motherhood. By her account, she was unhappy most of her life. That's the way it goes for even the most blessed of lives I suppose. A fine banquet spread before a bulimic.

I wonder whether Trump is thinking about winning the popular vote by campaigning in states he almost certainly can’t win, but where he can win over voters. I guess we’ll see how much campaigning he does in California.

People talk about sports dynasties, but mention must be made of the John Wooden years at UCLA, which Bill Walton was a big part of. UCLA dominated college basketball back then and, just working off my memory, I’m thinking 1966 - 1975 were some golden years. I think every one of my SoCal high school teammates had to Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success poster on his bedroom wall back in the day. Walton was so tough and I remember well Walton’s performance in the finals game Dave Begley mentioned.

Walton’s politics back then were far left, but he was an honest man of goodwill and one helluva basketball player. RIP, big fella!

So that guy who stabbed 4 young girls in a theater was a tranny, clearly jealous those girls had what he could never get...

Shit's getting scary.

Just finished VDH’s “The End of Everything.” It made me feel good that Joe Biden, Anthony Bliken and Lloyd Austin are leading our country.

There are 2 versions of Separate Tables available on Amazon Prime.
The first is the 1958 movie with Cathleen Nesbit, Rita Hayworth, Deborah Kerr, David Niven, Wendy Hiller, Rod Tayler, and Burt Lancaster. Costumes by Edith Head. Niven and Hiller won Academy Awards for their performances. It’s a simple little movie with a stellar cast. It’s available for $1.99
The other version is free. It’s the 1983 tv version directed by John Schlesinger. With Julie Christie and Alan Bates each playing 2 roles. Also with Claire Bloom and Irene Worth.
I rather like this version.

I don't like that. And I don't like you for liking that. Unelected cabinet members should NOT be running the country. Shame on you, Begley.

The US has sent billions to Ukraine, but I have never seen a TV news report from Ukraine. Why is that?

Replying to @thehill and @TheHillOpinion
This headline is suggesting a former president should be hung. It’s more likely to incite violence than anything Trump said regarding J6. The media is getting increasingly reckless with these headlines and it’s blatant attempts to rile people up if Trump is not found guilty.

From The Washington Monthly comes this banned essay by Johanna Chen about one woman's experiences living in Israel after October 7 and adapting to changed interactions between Israelis and Palestinians, appropriately entitled "From the Edges of a Broken World."

This literary effort will survive this war and the misdirected worldwide student protests.

Don't understand why i see articles on how RFK might qualify for June presidential debate. How is that possible? Should CNN announce him qualified 45 and 46 will simply overrule CNN or take their debate to another studio.

@chickelit. I believe that was a heavy dose of sarcasm by Mr. Begley. VDH is one awesome writer and historian.

Dave Begley বলেছেন...

H,

Yeah, VDH referred to some of the rulers as ineffective or mediocre. None were senile although one sold out his country and his family and he retired to a farm in Italy. The Romans paraded him around. Constantine had his head cut off by the Muslims. It was then skinned and stuffed and sent around to other rulers as a message.

All four of the losing cities thought defeat would never happen to them. All four were completely destroyed.

The magnitude of the human sacrifice by the Aztecs was astounding. The Spaniards were able to see 500 of their colleagues killed. The Aztecs cut out their heart and then ate it. The Aztecs were cannibals and practiced polygamy. They also worshipped multiple idols. That’s why Cortes decided to completely wipe them out. 1,50O Spaniards killed 200,000 Aztecs in hand-to-hand combat.

The $320,000,000 Gaza Pier is sinking. Not only can't it get food to the Gazans, it hasn't learned how to float. Adios!

The piece by Johanna Chen was brilliant and moving. I will look forward to reading about the people of Gaza reaching out at great risk to aid and comfort children in Israel.

In case you needed more evidence that all of these BS cases were quarterbacked by Team Biden to interfere in the 2024 election, the Biden campaign is now showing up in NYC to explicitly cheerlead the political prosecution of my father.
