Said President Biden's written statement, quoted in "Special Counsel’s Report Puts Biden’s Age and Memory in the Spotlight/After an inquiry concluded that President Biden was 'well-meaning' but had 'a poor memory,' he angrily fired back in an attempt at political damage control" (NYT).
And president’s lawyers wrote: "It is hardly fair to concede that the president would be asked about events years in the past, press him to give his ‘best’ recollections and then fault him for his limited memory. The president’s inability to recall dates or details of events that happened years ago is neither surprising nor unusual."

Like when his son died or what years he was Vice President?
Frankly, Biden can release the transcripts of his deposition if he’d like to make his point.
He didn't forget the day he met with Prime Minister X, or what he had for lunch three weeks ago. He forgot when his son died, and when he was Vice President.
The president's lawyers would write that. But the dates he failed to recall are the kind of dates you'd expect to be seared into his memory. Shades of Obama's "57 states" gaff that the press dutifully ignored.

In a vacuum, sure. But we're not in a vacuum here.
And what's their alternative? That he did everything that the report concedes that he did, but... still shouldn't face prosecution for having admittedly, and with willful intent, done it?
Either he is now cognitively challenged and (!) therefore shouldn't be prosecuted, like some kind of insanity defense, or he is not cognitively challenged now and shouldn't be prosecuted because... what, nobody f***s with a Biden? Or a Democrat president? Or both?
He is frail and senile so can't be held responsible for his crimes AND he's sharp as a tack and ready for re-election.
He's a tax, except when he's a fee, you see...
I'm sorry, but if he could not remember the years when he was Vice President, that cannot be explained away in this manner.
It's not just about where Biden kept the documents or how they were handled or by whom. As I understand it, unlike Trump, as former VP, Biden was not entitled to possess those classified documents. He was not entitled to take them home nor to delegate that task to anyone.
Maybe I'm wrong.
As a US citizen, I'm gratified to see our maximum leader, despite the ravages of the years, can still lie to me with great indignation.
I'm pretty poor at remembering dates, so I have a lot of sympathy in that respect. But for all the disrespect it gets, the office of vice president is a pretty big prize, and I would imagine that I could confidently remember the dates I served.

Years in the past! Years! Like, the year your son died? In Iraq, or wherever.
So they're saying Hur is wrong not to prosecute on the basis of senility, they do want to go to trial, and they will not use poor memory as a defense?

'Oooh, what's this pretty red button?'
Joe, the words are banana, sunrise, chair...
A shocking world crisis should take precedence over an interview that can be rescheduled. It doesn't speak well of Biden that he or his handlers can't prioritize his time.
Why are they excusing his dementia. It is as plain as the nose on his face. ALL of his little outbursts are classic symptoms of a person who is in the throes of Alzheimer's Disease. There IS no excusing him from actions because he should NOT be in office at all. This is criminal, and I blame the ELDER ABUSER with the Doctor in front of her name... She is cruel, and evil for putting him through this.

I think I saw E. Jean Carroll's lawyers say more or less the same thing. Right??
His administration seems to minimizing public and press access to Biden, but when Biden does speak he seems to be gaffe-prone. The special counsel had access to Biden for 5 hours, more than the press has seemingly had. The special counsel’s observations seems to confirm what most people believe about Biden based on their own more limited observations of video accounts of Biden.
What did you have for lunch on June 15, 2013? - yes might not remember
Were you the vice president on June 15, 2013? - not really a trick question
Just this past week, Biden recalled meeting with Helmut Kohl and Francois Mitterrand as if it happened last week.
Well...don't believe your lyin' eyes and ears, people. Ignore the man stumbling toward and away from the podium where he just gave yet another speech which including entire paragraphs of mumbled words, and incoherent references to recent meetings with dead people. All is well. He is strong and could fight you if he wanted. As he's let people know from time to time on the campaign trail.
It's not that he could not remember the date of his son's death (I know he made denying that a pity move in his speech last night, but the Special Counsel put it in the report), nor that he fell asleep during various important meetings or events- some that we could see (Maui) and some we could not. It's not simply that he cannot talk competently at times, nor remember names, places, dates of events. It's not that he seems afloat in his own world, sometimes engaged, sometimes looking for his mommy. It's all of these things put together. And many more.
This is not the long-time lead bartender at Keens Steakhouse leaving after 40 years. This is the President of the United States. The person holding this position cannot be in the condition Joe Biden is in. Period. Stop the nonsense and get on with the business of replacing him.
Granted. But he should remember, know, his son died of brain cancer and not on the battlefield.
Seems to me the most important thing about the Special Counsel's statement is not that Biden is senile, it's that no DC jury would convict him.
There shouldn't be any trials in DC.
"The president’s inability to recall dates or details of events that happened years ago is neither surprising nor unusual." ... for someone of his age. And that is the problem.
Now remind me, what were we talking about?
Interesting. The DNC is now out and blatantly tearing down Biden. They can't control him, especially if he gets another four years.
Bob Boyd said...There shouldn't be any trials in DC.
I was thinking that exact thing after the Michael Mann verdicts. We need to shut down the courts in DC. It's not a state, so why should it have state level courts?
5 hours over two days.... wow, grueling. That's like, over two hours each day of being asked questions. He really is in great shape and absolutely fit to be president, democrat party members aren't spewing lies and absurdities at all, not even a little bit.
"The president’s inability to recall dates or details of events that happened years ago is neither surprising nor unusual."
Yeah, like expecting him to remember when he was VP or when (or where) his eldest son died. The real revelation to me from the report was how the Biden garage, where classified documents were scattered around the floor in old cardboard boxes, looked like it belonged to white trash in a trailer park in South Delaware instead of attached to president's mansion or multimillion dollar "beach house" in Rehoboth. No wonder the White House was as apoplectic about the photos in the report as it was the findings. Those photos just reinforced what most people already know about Joe but our favorite member the ex-professorate community seems to be unwilling to admit. This garage was in the general condition that one would expect from the kind of low life family whose scion showered with his teenage daughter, whose remaining son banged the widow of his dead brother before impregnating a hooker and then denying the child, and all of whose closest members were international grifters (among other things) and whose multimillion-dollar fortunes were always tied to the scion's government influence. The problem with this report's photos is that they put the lie to how the classified documents were actually stored as opposed to how Joe described them as being safely locked up in cabinets. Those photos are very difficult to spin, so the WH had to try to get out in front of the report, which is the primary reason Joe was allowed to perform before the assembled press. Didn't work. Stick a fork in him.
Time is a construct. And the past is a foreign country.
I get it.
Biden/Harris was a judgement call.
"The Best and the Brightest" as they are wont to say.
As many people have noted before me, recognize that Hur is saying he won't prosecute Biden *now* because he would elicit sympathy from a jury because he appears to be confused and have a failing memory.
Presumably *back when* he was taking classified documents out of his various offices (Senate and VP) and distributing them far and wide he was in command of his faculties.
So basically since a Democrat-infested DC jury would let him off the hook (like Comey with Hillary), Hur isn't going to prosecute.
"Bake me a cake as fast as you can".
The most interesting part of the Special Counsel's characterization and reason for not pursuing charges wasn't that Biden was an "elderly man with a poor memory" but that Biden was "well-meaning". It's good to know that Special Counsel's have super powers to read minds (especially poor ones) and be able to discern intentions so that juries consisting of people with ordinary powers requiring actual evidence to make a verdict beyond reasonable doubt won't have to be bothered to do so.
If Joe is so incensed, he should demand to be put on trial.
Seriously, the neat, tidy dismissal statement, that it's because Biden "would present himself as a well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" is way more devastating and effective than an actual indictment.
I don't think it's just Biden's memory at issue. (I'm about his age, actually two weeks or so older I think, and I have memory problems also.) However, it's his absolute minimum coherence at times or ability to formulate coherent thoughts. What I mind most however is some of his clear thinking, not his lack of it. For instance, in the rest of his presser yesterday after his pathetic excuses about his memory and the interview with Hur, a bizarre battle unfolded with reporters who are restless about having carried his water for him for so long. But the worst was the utter disgrace of his remarks criticizing Israel for its Gaza warfare, a pathetic effort perhaps to win the vote of the Jihadis of Dearborn. Let me just say the U.S. armed forces in WWII, the Vietnam War, Iraq and more recently the siege of Mosul against ISIS (where WE BOMBED A HOSPITAL WITHOUT NOTICE) did not come CLOSE to Israel in its concern about and care for innocent civilians. Israel's IDF is the most moral armed force in the world today. Maybe ever. It is a disgrace for this big US pot to call the kettle black,
Taking a step back and despite the attendant danger of the situation, this is pretty funny. The guy thinks he’s above it all and that he’ll be able to depend on the Deep State/MSM to run interference for him and protect him… and his world falls apart by his own hand/mouth.
It took Hur’s report to wake the moronic media and make them take note of what has been readily apparent for years now.
And THEY laugh at the “rubes”… 😂
It is a Presidential election year, and one of the candidates is offered a chance to broadcast a friendly interview right before the Super Bowl to a huge and diverse (by political affiliation) crowd.
That candidate declined because his polling goes DOWN when people see him speak publicly.
His choice to decline is the most accurate possible yardstick to measure his mental acuity.
Trump offered to take the slot instead. The network declined because they believe it is their job to place their thumb on the scale.
Biden is a liar. No wonder NBC worships him.
"but that Biden was "well-meaning"."
The press views Joe Biden as a member of their in-group.
Attribution bias:
Research has found that humans often exhibit attribution biases when interpreting the behavior of others, and specifically when explaining the behavior of in-group versus out-group members. A review of the literature on intergroup attribution biases noted that people generally favor dispositional explanations of an in-group member's positive behavior and situational explanations for an in-group's negative behavior.[30] Alternatively, people are more likely to do the opposite when explaining the behavior of an out-group member (i.e., attribute positive behavior to situational factors and negative behavior to disposition). Essentially, group members' attributions tend to favor the in-group. This finding has implications for understanding other social psychological topics, such as the development and persistence of out-group stereotypes.[21]" - Wikipedia
This is also why any out-group member is screwed in a DC trial, where the Democrats are the overwhelmingly dominant in-group and will comprise any jury.
When the "I don't recall" defense to perjury (and the underlying offense) works too well. Everyday Joe is too senile for trial, but jacked-up Joe is the very model of a modern American president.
Wasn't this special council about events (mishandling of classified documents) that took place years in the past? When he was the VP? How would questions about this be out of bounds?

He’s either senile or he gets prosecuted for stealing doc. There is no 3rd option.
Hillary wasn't negligent enough with the emails. Biden can't remember enough about the documents. BUT TRUMP!
Nobody is above the law except careless and demented Democrats.
Haha! They'll excuse anything Biden or a Democrat does. Menendez is still in the Senate, right?
I feel like there is so much red meat in the report, but I hope we don't seem to be stipulating the determination that Biden is "Well-meaning" in the part about him being a "Well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory"
Biden has long been anything but "well-meaning".
Biden does it in an unheated, unsecured garage in Spring with little girls in tow.
Joe Biden could easily knock this whole "cognitive decline" narrative by allowing the transcripts and audio video of the interviews to be released! He's innocent, right? Where is the harm?
Why is not this defense of Biden - by Biden and his office and his lawyers - an automatic trigger to then CHARGE HIM. Biden, his staff, and his lawyers are saying the reason the Special Prosecutor gave for not charging his is not accurate.
Perhaps more importantly, he spent FIVE HOURS on this in the 2 days following October 7th? With a world on fire, an important ally just viciously attacked, and the beginning of a Middle east war?
I could maybe forgive 15-20 minutes and re-scheduling the rest. But come on. He's the President. It's real-time war with kidnapped American hostages. FIVE HOURS.
He should be prosecuted on the basis of what he and his lawyers have said, and he should be censured by Congress for admitting to spending 5 hours giving testimony on mis-handling documents in the 2 days following an American hostage crisis.
Donald Trump Competent to stand trial… unlike his opponent.
Well, hell, the guy thought he was "well-meaning." Obviously Hur wasn't paying attention.
Isn't the standard democrat response to any inquiry, "Not to my recollection".
You can only take the Hillary "I don't recall" defense so far or you'll end up looking bad.
It's good to know that Special Counsel's have super powers to read minds
To be fair on this one point, it's not that the prosecutor thinks he's well-meaning, it's that he thinks a jury will see him that way. One can call it mind-reading, but it's always a part of the job for any criminal or civil litigator to try to see the case through the jury's eyes.
One should read the excellent political book "Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign" by Jonathan Allen and Arnie Parnes about the Democratic party, its insiders, its campaign consultants, and camp followers who stole defeat out of the arms of what should have been a thumping 2016 victory to get a feeling for the depth of the political and management problems of the Biden reelection effort. The Biden campaign appears to be one big replay of that fateful 2016 campaign where the Democratic party lost Middle America.
One simply cannot be the party of the future, the party of the new, with an 81-ear-old candidate who the American public considered as being on a short-term employment contract to clean up a specific problem. Job done, time to retire — with dignity.
I read that the FBI actually has tape recordings of Biden telling his biographer in 2017 that he had classified documents in the basement. (The biographer made the tapes.)
They had him dead to rights. So Biden can't have it both ways. Either he gets charged with mishandling classified documents or he is too mentally incompetent to be charged. (And also too mentally incompetent to be President.)
My two roommates are both far left progressive Democrats, but they both intensely dislike Biden. Granted, they hate Trump more, so they'll still vote vote for Biden. But we all know how important turnout is in elections and when most of your supporters don't really like you, you turnout will be dismal.
Hard to forget the day St. Beau died.
Obama, the DNC or Harris set this up. Roll Joe out and watch him fail. 25th Amendment will soon be invoked.
Harris is Pres. Pete is VP. Historic.
The president’s inability to recall dates or details of events that happened years ago is neither surprising nor unusual.
I'm reminded of E. Jean Carroll.
Rich said... "Job done, time to retire — with dignity."
Well that ship has pretty much already sailed.
Bullshit.
If the attack occurred when he was sleeping, I doubt they even woke him up.
Besides, Biden and the dems hate Israel...why would that matter?
On this topic, where was Obama during the Benghazi attack?
To this day, nobody will answer that question...
'Job done, time to retire — with dignity.'
Exactly...he set this country firmly on the path to socialism or worse.
Congrats, I guess.
Btw, you were ready and willing to suck Joe's cock 2 days ago.
What changed?
You hadn't seen that he was senile until yesterday?
Or did you just not care as long as Marxism was being advanced?
There's two options here:
1: Biden suffers from diminished mental capacity, and needs to be removed as President, giving us President Kamala Harris as the incumbent President and Dem 2024 nominee
2: Biden does NOT suffer from diminished mental capacity, and needs to be prosecuted for his criminal violations of classified material handling.
Pick one, Dems, or else STFU
I would feel sorry for Biden if hadn't been such a miserable self-seeking, self-promoting, self aggrandizing, blowhard who was always and will always remain a stunning monument to incompetence and perhaps next to Robert Byrd's last two terms the prime example to be trotted out as an argument against the popular election of senators.
I need to ask Rich what specific problem Biden was elected to resolve. Competence, a somewhat more secure border, peace in the Middle East, less corruption flowing from the Ukraine to our elected officials? I don't perceive those as problems to be solved.
I would like to say to say that history will treat Biden as the most incompetent president since Buchanan, but since I think the stranglehold of the left on our institutions of "higher learning" is so great there will be no accurate assessment of his terms or the disastrous terms of the man who rescued Biden from a well deserved exit from the political stage. People in the future may well ask what the hell happened, but I suspect they will asking it in a language other than English and they may not be sorry that it did.
Under this DOJ actual justice is DOA.
Good luck to anyone known to be to the right of AOC.
Considering what we have seen, heard, read and experienced, what is the probability of a legitimate 2024 election? Discuss.
It's a little amazing to me that everybody is getting themselves worked up about this supposed testimony of Joe's, and the amazing revelation that he's demented and possibly senile, while completely overlooking the very good probability that Joe is simply lying about things. You can lie and have dementia at the same time you know - and Joe has a rich and textured history of lying like a f*ckin' rug. He lies when the truth sounds better, and then lies about lying - until confronted with incontrovertible proof - at which time the press cuts in, and grants him yet another pass.
I read that the FBI actually has tape recordings of Biden telling his biographer in 2017 that he had classified documents in the basement. (The biographer made the tapes.
The tape has since been deleted, and we can be sure that no charges will be brought for destroying evidence, because the biographer was "well meaning."
Didn’t Biden just make the case that he doesn’t have the mental capacity to answer questions on his crime during the same period when Hamas invaded Israel? Don”t we need a president who can handle more than one thing at a time? Besides, what was so consuming for Biden on October 7? I think he was just a bystander like the rest of us, albeit with a lot more information. Someone needs to look at Biden’s meetings about October 7 on October 8 & 9.
Second point: Hasn’t Garland and Wray repeatedly lectured Congress that they cannot comment on open investigations? I don’t think the special counsel scope included investigating Trump’s handling of classified documents. So why is Hur comparing Biden to Trump and speaking about Trump’s situation as if his charges have been proven? This just underscores the political objective of both letting off Biden and going hard after Trump. I’m not a lawyer but Trump’s lawyers ought to file a complaint with the trial judge about this blatant attempt to taint the jury pool. Can’t something be done or do they not even care about an appearance of fairness and justice?
"The president's inability... is not surprising...."
Correct. The man is sliding down the horrible path of dementia. But it is appalling to note that he remains president.
“Job done, time to retire — with dignity."
Don’t know about the first and last parts of your announcement, Rich, but I hope you find retirement to be healing.
Democratic Party member and USDOJ Special Prosecutor Hur didn't factually find Biden "innocent" of charges, noted Biden violated law, but then adopted Comey's "guilty but no reason for criminal prosecution" twisted "DNP-only" interpretation, "no bother" determination granted to Hillary Clinton.
Biden was all bluster and bother at his press conference, the misstatements and outright lies freely flowing. He may be angry, but he certainly is "guilty", and he's a horrible presence at the podium, zero decorum, zero gravitas.
It's bad news if Biden has the nuclear football.
It's worse news if he doesn't.
Why does the “biden” tag begin with a lowercase b? I notice that the Biden name is capitalized in other tags. Just curious.
"Job done, time to retire — with dignity."
American wages will be suppressed for decades, and the cost of housing will be driven up, and our health care system will be overextended for years, since, you know, the economy can grow to adjust for new births, but when the number of inbound adults, poorly educated and seeking economic betterment who cross the borders illegally and are welcomed *exceeds* the number of births to Americans, something is going to have to give.
Heckova job, Joe!
"What's so great about Joe?"
"He's not Trump!"
"Why is Trump so bad?"
"The TV told me he was."
Who has got the ability to tell him to step aside? Jill/Hunter (never), Harris, Pelosi, Obama, George Lewis ????
He isn't circumspect enough to do it on his own.
"Super Bowl?
"Gimme that "Nuclear Football" thingy---I want to see how I can affect the outcome by pressing a few buttons.""
