I thought it might be satire — Trump's request that the RNC not make him, right now, its "presumptive nominee."

But it's real... and Trump was for it before he was against it. CNN:
A Republican National Committee draft resolution that would have formally declared Donald Trump the Republican Party’s 2024 presumptive nominee was withdrawn Thursday amid pushback from the former president. David Bossie, the RNC committeeman from Maryland who recently endorsed Trump and introduced the resolution, withdrew it, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The Trump campaign had initially approved going forward with the resolution and the former president himself was also on board until a backlash began, a source familiar told CNN....

You've got to let the people work through their stages of grief on the existing timeline. There's still hope, and hope is a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. Those still on the journey through the hope mindscape cannot be forced to see the shortcut to reality. Do not wake those who are clinging to the fitful dream of Nikki Haley into the real-life nightmare of a Trump-vs.-Biden rematch.

Trump knows it makes a nice contrast with the DNC manipulation of their own primary. Win/win.

Surely the plan by the Haley campaign has always been to still be in the race as the alternative if something comes up to eliminate Trump or cause his popularity to collapse. But surely someone else would then jump in, as other Dems did in 68, forestalling Clean Gene.

So true:

Biden-Harris has to go. How is it that the guy with 33% approval gets to bypass any competition for the D nomination? How many competitors were encouraged with mucho $$ to wait until next time by the powers that be?

That is why DeSantis explicitly "suspended", but did not "end", his campaign.

Why hand the democrats an “illegitimate claim” win?

Carville asking people not to “normalize” Trump. That’s code do or say whatever you have to do or say to keep Trump from running or getting the GOP nod.

If the GOP doesn’t go through the normal nominating process, it will play into the Dems hands.

Did DeSantis just suspend his campaign (for now)? Or end it all together? Not sure what 'suspend' means in this political context.

A few things have changed from 44 years ago.

You might even have read about some of those changes.

It would have been incredibly stupid to do this. Enthusiasm builds as voting continues and the delegates get counted. Trump also gets to show that he is alive and Biden is as good as a corpse. As the delegate tally rises he will be moving around giving campaign stops that Rachel Maddow and the Democrat media will try not to cover. But since Biden will have a lid on most of the time they will, albeit by smearing him and lying about them. But that is known.

He will be seen as a strong horse versus an almost catatonic horse. Biden won’t debate either for some made up reason or other.

This sounded like something Rona McDaniel/Mitch McConnell dreamed up to try their best to lose this year. Glad to see that people outside of the eGOP prevailed.

Drago said that this is why Desantis suspended his campaign. They ALWAYS suspend their campaign. It’s because of some money reason, I expect they get to keep using the dollars collected.. Vivek suspended and I expect Christie and all others did as well.

...into the real-life nightmare of a Trump-vs.-Biden rematch.

The real life nightmare was the COVID induced absentee voter fraud in 2020, the big tech censorship, and deep state entrapment of American Citizens. It's nightmare half the country (probably less than half) think Biden was elected legitimately.

Trump didn't bring on the nightmare. Since the installation of Biden, we've have inflation, bullshit funding of wars, a planned invasion happening on the US southern border.

Let Trump wipe the floor with Nikki Haley a while longer. It's keeps everyone entertained and engaged.

Liz Cheney endorsed Nikki Haley yesterday. That's all you need to know.

Soon we will be watching Paul RINO cry from his cuck ranch in WI and skip the MKE GOP convention, while Senator Pierre Delecto fades off into obscurity and irrelevance.

It benefits Trump to keep the primary battles going as long as it's certain he'll win all by a solid margin. That generates repeated headlines of Trump winning and allows him to give multiple victory speeches to cheering crowds. Most people like a winner and Trump likes to win.

The republicans could double or triple their financial contributions right now by declaring that Mitch McConnell would no longer be senate leader.

As I understand it, Vivek, DeSantis and for that matter Christie, Pence et al did not shut down their campaigns, they "suspended" them.

Yes, I know that for all practical purposes they did shut down and there is some legal reason having to do with campaign finance laws that they can only suspend them.

But if they are only suspended, they could be unsuspended this afternoon. I'm not even sure they would have to do anything other than make an announcement. They still have money, hiring back their people might be a bit harder but some at least may not have found other jobs yet.

Haley does not really have the campaign to herself. If something happened to our future president to take him out of the race, it will be a horserace again.

As for what could happen to our future president, I see more and more allusions to him being murdered. Usually more obliquly that that but clearly that someone might kill him if they can't get him out of the race. Nancy Pelosi hinted at it, Soros' kid published a picture of a bullet hole and $47 that was clearly, but deniably, a reference to murdering him. I think it was Rachel Maddow last week danced around murder as a last resort.

I hope our president emeritus has his own trusted security in addition to the Secret Service. I don't trust either the competence or the integrity of the SS. (SS is a good abbreviation for this fascist government's security force)

Joe Biden Is Corrupt: "Drago is particularity obsessed with DeSantis.

These are the kinds of things stupid people write when they have nothing else to say.

From DeSantis' statement on the day he "suspended" his campaign:

"Now following our second-place finish in Iowa, we have prayed and deliberated on the way forward. If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome — more campaign stops, more interviews — I would do it. But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory.

Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign."

"Suspended"...not ended. See the difference?

Boulder Idiot (Joe Biden Is Corrupt) should really be happy today. The entirety of her beloved GOPe heroes are out in force over the last week defending Biden and blaming Trump for the dems/GOPe border crisis.

Thats like a Boulder Idiot dream come true.

Again.

Remember, dont you dare criticize McConnell or Romney or Ryan or any other GOPe-ers else you will get an earful from Boulder Idiot.

Since Trump is always wrong, look for all the Nevertrumpers to attack him for wanting to keep the process going, after attacking him for wanting to end it.

Before: Trump is authoritarian wanting to get rid of all primary opponents.

Now: Trump wants to waste everyone's time and launch nasty attacks on his opponents.

rcocean said...

Nevertrump spin everytime Trump does something they wanted:

"Trump was forced to do the right thing by (fill in blank) and he's not doing enough of it, or he's doing it the wrong way. So, he's still bad."

BTW, we need to get rid of NH as the first primary. Not only is it lilly-white, its only voted for the R POTUS Candidate once in 32 years. Most of its R primary voters aren't even Republicans. Undeclared moderate/liberals make up 40 percent of the electorate.

Make more sense to have Indiana as the first primary. Or Missouri.

I worry about what is going on in Texas right now. I fully support Gov Abbott and I think he is 100% in the right. I am happy to see that 25 other states, in a mostly contiguous block, are supporting him as well. One state has even said they are sending troops to help the Texas NG.

Note to Brandon, a number of these state national guards do have F-16's Also A-10s and other aircraft.

Part of me wants to see a good dustup (no actual shooting, of course) to establish who is sovereign, Texas or the DC fascists.

But in this election year I worry that Brandon & Co are trying to provoke a conflict. This would give them an excuse to declare martial law. If they do, it would be just in Texas, it will be in all 26 states (TX and supporters) or the US as a whole. This will allow the military to be used in exception to the normal posse comitatus prohibition.

This may be the kung flu of 2024 used to screw with the election.

I had also hoped that our future president would keep out of it. Not because he would do less good than harm. I think his input would be valuable for a lot of reasons.

My worry is that if he gets involved, no matter how innocuously it will be portrayed as fomenting INSURRECTION!!!!! and the fascists will ramp up the noise level past 11 to 13 or 14.

But, I seem to be too late:

"President Trump Calls on ‘All Willing States’ to Deploy Their National Guards to Texas to Defend U.S-Mexico Border as Red State Alliance Grows to 25" From Gateway Pundit

This will be an interesting year.

minnesota farm guy said...

Leaving off the Texas situation for a minute. Continuing to campaign in the primaries is a smart move. If Trump shifts his target from Haley to Biden he has 6 or 7 months of attack time before the "campaign" even starts.

Texas; certainly Abbott has the right of the argument- his state is being invaded and it is his responsibility, if the Feds won't do their duty, to defend it. This is only going to get worse as the year goes on. Interestingly, the states that so far are supporting Texas total 264 electoral votes. 270 are needed to win the presidential election. If KY and NC also sign up that will be 288. Does Biden have a border problem?

No, because the plan very much appears to be to substitute someone else for FJB later, and when their selected candidate is swapped in, likely I think, right now, at their Convention, they don’t want the distraction of another legitimate candidate, complicating the switch out. Harris, as VP, and presumptive successor, is going to be hard to finesse.
