Interesting commentary in the London Telegraph (no firewall link here https://archive.is/2YYcS) about antisemitism as a snobbery / class identifier issue.

"If you’re eager to be seen as a superior class of person, therefore, you need to express the opinions that the superior class of people invariably hold. And in the world of social media, these opinions are always progressive ones."

This does seem to, in large part, describe the sort of people who mindlessly support Hamas rather than Israel. It is written from a British perspective, of course, and doesn't apply to the putative right wing antisemitic sorts like Crack and rcocean. But is is an interesting take.

I suppose the larger question is, why is the progressive opinion so pro-terrorism? The answer is obviously the whole victim/oppressor, colonialism frame of reference taught in higher education. But fashion and fitting in with the cool kids is still the primary driver for most student age people. They are not thinkers, but they know what is uncool.

I've been thinking about the Dems going with Biden in '24. They may actually want someone who is almost guaranteed to lose. Obama has fucked this country up so bad they may want Trump in the WH for the next 4 years. Cause it's going to take more than 4 years to fix this mess. If it is even fixable. Blame it on the other guy, and who better than Trump? It will also let them make better use of their brownshirts.

Clyde's Top 15 Favorite "New" Songs of 2023 - #14 - "Let's Go Round There" - The Darling Buds - Pop Said... (1988)

One of my favorite pop albums that I discovered this year was Pop Said... by the Welsh band The Darling Buds. There were several songs on it that I liked, and it got a lot of play during the year. I'm not sure how I missed them in the late 1980s, but I did. Fortunately, streaming music allows you to find music that you didn't hear the first time around. The band didn't find much commercial success, and one article I read suggested that they were too alternative for pop and too pop for alternative. Andrea Lewis sang all of the vocals, which were multi-layered, allowing her to back herself on the records.

I highly recommend "Berlin Wall," a four episode series on (I think) Amazon. Fascinating look at the disintegrating society of East Germany, 1987-90. Many nations have failed, but few were lucky enough to be next door to Germany. Interesting to see how people who foresaw the downfall prepared for it.

Clyde's Top 15 Favorite "New" Songs of 2023 - Honorable Mentions (Part 2 of 5) - "Cut to the Quick" - Olden Yolk - Olden Yolk (2018)

A catchy tune from Olden Yolk's debut album in 2018. This one came up on one of my Discovery Mixes and got added into regular play during the year.

Also interesting in "Berlin Wall" was how young people loathed the stifling conformity of socialism. And East Germany was probably the perfect embodiment of modern socialism - bureaucratic, grey, unproductive, suspicious, and completely corrupt.

“I refer to the U.S. Capitol as ‘sacred space’ because it’s so much more than a building where the Senate and House of Representatives meet and conduct business,” Sen Ben Cardin (D-MD)

Apparently it is also used by staff to conduct other business. Clean up in aisle 5.

Do congress members vet their staff? Background checks, social media posts etc ... to see if there is any embarrassing stuff floating around the atmosphere? It would appear nothing shames these people.

City [of Chicago] has lost all communication about migrant drop offs since new penalties, official says

"Migrants are no longer being dropped off at the city’s landing zone on buses from the southern border, causing people to wander with no direction looking for shelter, according to an aide to Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Cristina Pacione-Zayas, Johnson’s deputy chief of staff, said the lack of communication is directly correlated with the city’s harsher penalties for bus owners whose vehicles violate rules to rein in chaotic bus arrivals from the southern border. She suspects bus companies are finding other ways to get migrants into the city.

As of Saturday, more than 25,900 migrants had arrived in Chicago since August 2022, according to city records.

Under revised rules Wednesday, buses face “seizure and impoundment” for unloading passengers without a permit or outside of approved hours and locations.

Under revised rules Wednesday, buses face “seizure and impoundment” for unloading passengers without a permit or outside of approved hours and locations. Violators will also be subject to $3,000 fines, plus towing and storage fees.
The city impounded a “rogue bus” trying to drop off 29 migrants at the landing zone in the West Loop at 800 S. Desplaines St. Wednesday night.

“Obviously, they’re trying every way to work around this,” Pacione-Zayas said. “Since we’ve instituted the ordinance and the amendment, we have lost all communication with the border. They’re not sending us any notices.”

On Friday, she said city officials found migrants in various locations around the city — City Hall, Christkindlmarket and Union Station. According to Pacione-Zayas, migrants reported that bus drivers bought them Ventra cards and Amtrak tickets to get to Chicago.

She said a suburb municipality received a bus Friday and directed it to go to the landing zone, and instead it took off toward the Indiana border.

The deputy chief of staff suspects bus drivers drop off migrants at train stations outside of the city and buy them train fares to get downtown.

Your Son, Chris (Always liked him !) --Anyway, has he gotten to President Reagan's Biography yet? Couldn't care less about Nixon, Carter or Ford(Bored). Reagan Administration had it all, Nancy's Galanos Gowns, Hollywood Glamour, John Hinckley, Kitchen Cabinet--and their Wives, etc etc.. It would be fun to relive all of that through Chris's eyes.

Saw a Media article about a small Coterie of Trump loyalists planning (plotting) the new Trump White House Agenda. Anyway, that word "Coterie" reminded me of a term that came out of the Reagan 80s.

Love all of that.

Lem, I was in Cumming, GA just a few days ago. Cumming seems like an unlikely location for a pro-Palestinian gathering.

BTW, I’d always thought you were a south ATL metro guy like me.

I’ve read speculation online that the Senate staffer who filmed a gay sex tape in the Senate Hearing Room could face charges. No he won’t because he’s a politically well-connected Democrat.

Heh, grew up off Old National (I remember when there was only the Little Giant and a wood store at the corner of Godby and Old National, no Richway and no Old National Triple), went to North Clayton (War Eagle) moved to Senoia in my 30’s. As Southside as it gets.

Cumming isn’t the same place anymore, there has been an explosion over the last 30 years with a huge influx of outsiders, with the requisite political views. Don’t forget that abuts North Fulton, which has become an evil cesspool of Democrat party expansion.

Canada expects to announce this week that all new cars will have to be zero emissions by 2035, a senior government source said, as Ottawa is set to unveil new regulations in the latest example of countries around the world pushing for electrification.
The new rules, known as the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, would help ensure supply is available to the Canadian market and shorten wait times to get an electric vehicle, the source told Reuters, confirming earlier media reports.

So Canadians are going to be driving cars that refuse to operate at -22F or lower? Are they going to keep them in heated garages? Yes.

He's not doing them in chronological order or in some kind of order of greatness. He did Nixon after Chester Arthur, and after Nixon, he did Andrew Johnson. He's doing Harding now.

He's got a creative choice on Harding - a novel.

Lem, I live near Cumming, Georgia. And I'm currently tracking the pro-Palestinian movement. I was down in Atlanta getting tear gassed following them a few weeks ago.

Get in touch with me thru my eponymous blog. There have been 70 meetings throughout the country and thousands of rallies. The meetings, which I have mapped, are working towards a nationwide action on January 18, another attack on Atlanta's police training center, and then several days of action following. They're trying to turn the shooting of an activist there, who first shot a cop, to create another George Floyd situation.

It was surreal, watching literally hundreds of college students purportedly protesting Atlanta's new police training center by screaming "from the river to the sea" and "free Gaza" for miles. Then they attacked the police. Again.
