Are you paying attention to Schedulegate?

I just coined the term, but check out "Judge Aileen Cannon’s Games in Florida May Delay Other Trump Trials" (Daily Beast) and "Judge Cannon's rulings put other Trump cases in 'limbo'" (Raw Story) and "Judge Cannon Just Stealth Shivved The Trump Docs Case/Girl, please. We see you" (Law and Chaos).

Federal judges being oblivious to deadlines except for the ones they take an interest in is unfortunately par for the course. But i don't see why other Trump criminal case judges who want to move forward can't do so. Let them adjust when the final pretrial conference in Florida is underway.

I went to the batshit crazy Law and Chaos. It was a fun read.

I found this part the best:
She ordered the government to make its case with respect to each document it wishes to withhold, and even suggested that she’d let the PAC lawyers participate in the CIPA § 4 hearing where the government explained why it shouldn’t have to show nuclear secrets or military war plans to Trump’s henchmen.

This is delightfully amusing, since up above she wrote:
The special counsel proposed that the evidence be shown to their counsel, who have security clearance, and then the attorneys could argue on an individualized basis for access to any particular document germane to their case.

So, when it's the special counsel arguing that you can keep the defendants from seeing anything, because their attorneys could see it, that's "good".

But when the judge says "ok, their attorneys get to be their when you try to claim that a document should be excluded", that's "evil".

It's like TDS just makes you stupid

Greg the Class Traitor म्हणाले...

But the punting is great. Either Trump will have lost the primaries as it turns out that people are saying they'll vote for him, because of the corrupt attacks by Democrat "prosecutors", but they're not actually going go vote for him because 2020s Trump has established that he's a loser, and they don't want a loser, or else Trump will have the GOP nomination wrapped up, and even our criminal justice system won't be willing to run kangaroo court cases on the GOP Presidential nominee

We'll see.

But my expectation is that Trump will either flat out lose IA, or else it will be incredibly close, not a 30+ point blowout. And that Trump just isn't up to actually getting out and campaigning and working for the nomination

Judge Cannon will be the left's newest enemy if she does not go along with the plan. They want 2024 filled with CONTROLLED Trump trials and coordinated leaks to the liberal press. Just like the J6 committee. The brainwashing of half the nation must continue.

They want Trump in court all through 2024, and hopefully lock him up before the general election, or perhaps even the GOP Milwaukee Shit Show Convention.

Isn't lawfare fun? They're just getting revved up. So is Trump.

The Vault Dweller म्हणाले...

I hadn't really heard of this. But isn't it the Defendant who has a right to a speedy trial and not the government? I'm assuming the motivation of people who are upset by this is that if there is no trial before the election then that ability of a conviction to prevent Trump from being elected vanishes. Isn't this just evidence those people's political motivations for supporting this prosecution?

I dunno, based on the latest news the Biden had classified materials stashed multiple locations that he took as VP with no authority to declassify, and the government says they won't bring a case against him; perhaps Judge Cannon could consider tossing the case against Trump. Name another Cabinet level or higher federal officer that has been tried for mishandling classified data? Sandy Berger maybe, who did plea guilty for a $10,000 fine and no jail time. From Raw Story: “She is a full fledged member of the Trump defense team," tweeted Norman Ornstein, a senior fellow emeritus at the American Enterprise Institute.

How hyperbolic. I don't recall Norm throwing a hissy fit over the completely novel legal machinations in DC and NYC. But then those people are doing what Norm wanys done to Trump, not what frustrates his hyperactive enemies. For all I, a mere observer, knows Judge Cannon is following normal procedure. By the way what is "normal procedure" for one administration prosecuting its predecessor and present opponent? Please give me some examples Norman. (Is he a member of the prosecution team?)

Love this touch too, regarding the Section 4 hearing: “I think she could do that a week after DOJ files a Section 4 motion," he added. "Instead, she’s doing it 74 days after they file their motion."

Context matters, as progressives always remind us. So what was the time between Trumps other acts, say his business valuations, in relation to the charges in NYC? Were Trump's acts more or fewer than 74 days prior to Leticia filing charges? What about the alleged sexual assault? Was that a charge made within 74 days of Trump's alleged acts? 74 weeks? 74 months? OH, it was closer to 300 months than 74 days, eh? So when exactly are we supposed to be enraged about a 74-day span, Junior? Do you know how much time normal little people spend waiting for courts to hear their cases? Do you think a hearing in 74 days would thrill a LOT of litigants waiting for their day in front of a judge?

I do.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

The three articles were almost unreadable in their biases, and were clearly written from the same script. That the first two used identical language, strongly suggests that they were partisan hit pieces. \

The thing here is that the prosecution has been cutting corners from the beginning, when Deputy Special Council and Counterintelligence and Export Branch Chief Jay Bratt first requested documents marked classified throug the National Archives, requiring Trump’s attorneys to dig through hundreds of boxes of documents, to issuing a subpoena for them, refusing requests for extensions of time and for rolling production, using their failure to respond quickly enough to his impossible demands as the justification for his search warrant of MAL, where he denied Trump’s attorneys’ request to oversee the raid (where published photos were staged), etc. Meanwhile, without notice to that FL judicial district, he was running a second grand jury, outside their supervision, and violative of DOJ requirements. That’s why it was shut down, after Judge Cannon ordered Bratt to explain WTF was he doing there. The evidence was in FL. The defendants were in FL. The 2nd grand jury’s oversight was supposed to have been there too - except that Bratt had failed to mention that to Judge Cannon.

Does she distrust the prosecution? She has plenty of reason to. They were trying their hardest to schedule the trial when it would do the maximum damage to Trump’s campaign, even if it meant cutting back on some of the defendants’s rights. Indeed, it very much looked like this trial was supposed to have been crowded by SC Jack Smith’s other case against Trump in DC (cleverly not mentioned in those articles). So, she is pushing back a bit. BFD. Her job is to make her trial fair, and not to please the DOJ, in its highly political trials designed to sway the election.

Let's not forget the entire State of New York had to create a carve out in the statute of limitations for that supposed violation, just so that case could be brought to court. That carve out has expired. Despite Trump losing the case, we still don't know when the supposed act occurred to the nearest year nor provided a month with just confusion on the specific year.

The reality is that Trump was a loser, and will continue to be a loser. Because he completely lacks the tools to fight back.

I like DeSantis for the same reasons except one. DeSantis is not going to have the same turnout as Trump. Not only is he NOT going to get 100% of the Trumper vote he is not going to get the bump in the minority vote that Trump seems to be getting. I really doubt that he can make the 75 million mark that Trump did.
