"The Republicans who portray [Biden] as a doddering old man based on highly selective YouTube clips are wrong."

"In my interviews with him, he’s like a pitcher who used to throw 94 miles an hour who now throws 87. He is clearly still an effective pitcher. People who work with him allow that he does tire more easily, but they say that he is very much the dynamic force driving this administration. In fact, I’ve noticed some improvements in his communication style as he’s aged. He used to try to cram every fact in the known universe into every answer; now he’s more disciplined. When he’s describing some national problem, he is more crisp and focused than he used to be, clearer on what is the essential point here — more confidence-inspiring, not less...."

Writes David Brooks, in "Can We Talk About Joe Biden?" (NYT).

"[I]t’s the Democratic Party as a whole that’s ailing.... This is about something deeper than Joe Biden’s age. More and more people are telling pollsters that the Republicans, not the Democrats, care about people like me.... It is not news that the Democrats have been losing white working-class voters ever since the emergence of the Reagan Democrats. But today, the party is bleeding working-class voters of all varieties.... As things stand, [Biden] is the Democrats’ best shot at curing what ails the party. There is no other potential nominee who is so credibly steeped in knowing what life is like for working- and middle-class people, just as there was no other potential nominee in 2020. After watching him for a quarter-century, I think he is genuinely most comfortable when he is hanging around the kinds of people he grew up with. He doesn’t send out any off-putting faculty lounge vibes. On cultural matters he is most defined by what he doesn’t do — needlessly offend people with overly academic verbiage and virtue signaling...."

Joe Biden is not the late Dick Butkus. Butkus just wanted to damage you on the football field. Biden and his ilk are will to sacrifice millions of people (Ukrainians and Americans) for their own enrichment. He and the rest of the geriatrics want to stay in power to cover the crimes that made them rich. And they are willing to destroy America to do it.

He's not and aged football player with bad knees. Dick Butkus was never a senile avatar controlled by other grifters covering their crimes. God, these liberal journalists are disgusting.

Notice how this sentence is constructed:

"People who work with him allow that he does tire more easily, but they say that he is very much the dynamic force driving this administration."

So, David Brooks is admitting that he doesn't work with Joe Biden. And that he has to rely on other people's WORD that he is a "dynamic force" "driving" this Administration.

If you have to quote others saying that someone is a driving force, then the reader may assume that bullsh|it is happening. Driving forces demonstrate themselves. They don't need PR people.

This entire story just confirms that David Brooks is a toad-sucking butthole-licker and also that the President of the United States is a doddering old fool and if you are ANY organization that wants to take over the United States ... now's your chance.

I'm looking at you, Mexican Cartels.

What Brooks is saying is correct. Biden is at ease with all types, and he has no problem in
projecting a "Good ol'Joe from Scanton PA" persona. Its just totally fake.

So, if you want someone who can FOOL working class people into voting for them, while actually doing everything he can to ignore their needs and concerns, well Joe Biden is your man.

This a man who is worth $millions, and has spent his entire adult life in DC as a powerful Senator and VP. He now jets off to SF/LA/NYC and hobnobs with BIllionaires. His stupidity, and constant gaffes, and harmless exaggerations and lies about his past, actually disarm people. "Haha, thats just Good ol' Joe telling a whopper" people say.

Of course, the REAL Joe Biden has nothing but contempt for the average American, assuming he even thinks about them. He's completely in favor of massive illegal and legal immigration that compete for native American jobs, a Automobile industry killing "Green agenda", open borders, free trade, globalization, and foreign wars.

He supported the bailout of the banks in 2008, and didn't give a damn about the Disaster at East Palastine OH, or the Maui fire, and if he showed up it was only due to political pressure. As for the UAW strike, he didn't give a damn, and only walked the picket lines for ONE Hour on his way to Tahoe CA and his lunch with a billionaire donor.

Nor is "Good ol' Joe" a nice guy. His record is full of sexual harrassment, and contempt for the secret service agents and Press who ask him a tough question.

BUT..he SEEMS Like a sincere nice guy. And if you can fake that, you can fake anything.

BTW, Biden has a massive advantage over Trump. The DC democrats are a well oiled machine. They all believe the same thing, they're all on the same page, and the same is true of Biden's Cabinet and the top federal workers.

And even if they weren't the MSM would protect Biden and never report any problems UNLESS Biden strayed from the "Party Line" - which Biden never has.

So Biden can be a doddering ol' fool. And no one cares. Because he's just doing what the DNC/chuck Schumer/NYT/Wap/Etc. want.

Trump was trying to fight the establishment - single handed. Biden IS The establishment.

Brooks is right, rhetorically speaking. No bullshitter like an old bullshitter. Joe's shameless. At this point he doesn't know or care about the truth value of any statement, he just says whatever he senses is the answer that will fly with his base and leaning independents.

Whether that's enough to get him reelected in the face of all this chaos at the borders and in the cities and people's recalling how much better they were doing 4 years ago is the question all the Trump hatred and indictments is aimed at evading.

Well sure, compared to Kamala Harris, the President seems more human. Sure, the Dem possibilities give off that special "I hate you voters" vibe, that "I would have chosen Dylan Mulvaney to represent Budweiser" vibe. Certainly, Biden is better than that, Biden is "Hey, I'm in it for the money, just like you, and my boy, Hunter, just wants to have fun just like you" wink, senile chuckle. But the USA is facing real problems requiring new solutions. Biden massively projects inability to deal with new issues. The consequences of open borders (see NYC), the consequences of allowing shoplifting (see San Francisco), the consequences of lack of soldiers for the Army - does anyone at all see Biden taking on the Dem zealots and zanys and wrestling them or anyhow the Dem party, back to sanity on these issues or on any issue?
But is it a real issue? I'm pretty sure Biden will be carried off stage before the election. His incapacity will become obvious through some really terrible incident since the media will cover up every warning sign till it's too late. And then? I just wonder.

But Brooks is right in two ways, explicit and implicit: Joe is still Dems' best option, so they're rational to stick with him, and he is driving hard-left prog policy to predictable disaster (at the border, on the budget, in inflation, in greening), so there's little for progs to dislike,

More lucidity from Joe, via John Hinderaker at Powerline:

" Biden’s howlers related mainly to the federal budget:

“Those 50 corporations that made $40 billion and weren’t paying a penny in taxes? Well, guess what, we made them pay 30% — 15% in taxes, 15%, nowhere near what they should pay."

This makes no sense. If a corporation shows a profit of hundreds of millions or billions of dollars, it owes income taxes to the federal government. Payment is not optional. The idea that corporations weren’t going to pay their income taxes, but the Biden administration “made them pay,” is absurd. And for what it is worth, the federal corporate income tax rate is 21%, so I have no idea where Biden got either 30% or 15%.

But Biden was just getting warmed up:

"And guess what? We’re able to pay for everything. And we end up with an actual surplus,” Biden said.

“I was able to cut the federal debt by $1.7 trillion over that first two and a half — two years,” Biden said at one point, confusing the terms “debt” and “deficit.”

The national debt has increased by nearly $6 trillion since Biden took office, from $27.75 trillion to about $33.48 trillion."

Saint Croix said...

I suspect Obama is a shadow president. He's still living in D.C., which is a first among ex-presidents. Most of Biden's staffers used to be his staffers. I think he's telling Biden what to do. And in some cases he might be cutting Biden out entirely and advising his aides.

For instance, it seems like the Biden administration is intentionally allowing mass illegal immigration into the USA to occur. I suspect that's actually an Obama move. They're his "dreamers." He wants a lot more non-white people in the USA, because Obama thinks racially, all the time.

Biden is a racist too, but he's a white racist who says dumb, white racist things. Obama is manipulating him.

Look at this White House reception and tell me who you think is the most powerful man in the country.

Brooks might have caught President Malarkey on a good day. Because it does seem quite variable -- sometimes he seems to know exactly what he's saying and responds to questions normally. And sometimes it's honestly just painful to watch.

I do think the RNC has overreached with a lot of their clips of Biden looking senile, though, because Biden's aides seem to be fully aware that the President is in his dotage and have accordingly got better at managing his appearances to avoid that sort of thing happening on video. The recent stories about having him use the short stairs are only a piece of it. My impression is there were a lot more embarassing unscripted moments at the start of Biden's presidency than there are now.

Well people's cognitive abilities disappear in different ways and in a sort of random fashion. Even senile people (and Joe is closer to senility than to being "sharp") have their lucid moments.

I loved my late father who died a couple of weeks short of his 96th birthday. His business judgement disappeared somewhere around 87 or 88. He lived in Southern California. When he was 92 or 93 he entered into a rather complicated franchising arrangement with a company in North Carolina. When Dad died I was charged with cleaning up his estate. The franchising arrangement contained a promise to purchase a prefab house to be put up on land Dad owned.

I called the company to unwind the transaction. The franchisor expressed surprise when I told him that this "franchisee' in Southern California was a 95 year old man. He said he'd thought he was dealing with a businessman in his 50s. As I say, geezers lose their ability in different ways and at different speeds. Sometimes Slow Joe can fool people into thinking that his mind still works.
